DraftKings – Tuesday Player Picks

Groups C and D come to a conclusion this evening, with DraftKings managers afforded eight teams to assemble their squads from.

As witnessed with the France and England starting XIs over the past two evenings, the line-ups carry an air of unpredictability in the third round of fixtures and staying alert to any alterations prior to kick-off is key to success.

Crucially, DraftKings allows us to take in the teamsheets before each match, adjusting our eight-man squads accordingly in order to seek out some last-minute bargains.

Germany may be top of Group C but Joachim Lowe could be reluctant to mix it up as he looks to cement that spot at the summit.

Sitting above Poland only on goal difference after a goalless draw last time out, the World Champions face a stubborn Northern Ireland that roll up on the back of a shock 2-0 win over Ukraine. Michael O’Neill’s men boast a significant threat from dead-ball situations and scored more goals than any side from set-pieces in qualifying.

Top scorers on the road to Euro 2016, Poland will be looking to take advantage of Mykhaylo Fomenko’s whipping boys, though a second-placed finish would still hand them a favourable clash with Switzerland in the next round.

Spain are already through to the last 16 on the back of successive wins but need to avoid defeat to Croatia in order to finish top of Group D. Bearing in mind that the runners-up face the winners of Group E – which is likely to Italy – Ante Cacic’s side will be keen to go on the offensive.

Turkey and Czech Republic do battle in the other 8pm kick-off. Both sides sat in the top three for shots conceded inside the box over the first two rounds of fixtures, suggesting that goals could be on the menu.

Here’s our selection of DraftKings targets that could prove key to their nations’ prospects over the upcoming four fixtures.

Burak Yilmaz – Turkey – $5000
A must-win match against Czech Republic affords Turkey’s talisman the opportunity to open his account for the tournament. Top scorer for his country in qualifying, the fit-again Yilmaz’ eye for goal could make the difference as Fatih Terim’s men look to scramble off the Group D basement in the early 5pm kick-offs.

David Silva – Spain – $8100
Although he’s yet to play a part in any of Spain’s four goals, the playmaker boasts some impressive underlying numbers. Top for crosses and second when it comes to chances created for Vicente del Bosque’s side, Silva’s five attempts on goal has been bettered only by Alvaro Morata as he faces a Croatia backline still reeling from the weekend capitulation against Czech Republic.

Kamil Grosicki – Poland – $6200
A key player for Poland in qualifying, the left winger produced more crosses than any team-mate and was second only to Robert Lewandowski for both shots inside the opposition box and attempts on target. Handed a first start last time out after recovering from a minor injury, Grosicki will be looking to torment an unconvincing Ukraine defence that’s been breached twice in both their opening fixtures.

Julian Draxler – Germany – $6600
At a price of $6600, the winger affords DraftKings managers a relatively budget-friendly route into Joachim Lowe’s attack. Draxler has produced more successful crosses than any Germany player and sits second for attempts inside the box, underlining his threat ahead of the clash with Northern Ireland.

Jonas Hector – Germany – $4800
The Germany left-back has provided a constant threat down the flank for Joachim Lowe’s side. Only two defenders supplied more crosses than Hector’s 13 over the first two rounds of fixtures, a tally bettered by Toni Kroos for the World Champions. With Northern Ireland set to sit back and soak up the pressure, Hector should be allowed the space to raid forward and pose problems in the final third.

Artur Jedrzejczyk – Poland – $4200
The Poland defender looks a solid option for the utility spot in our eight-man squads. Up against a Ukraine attack that’s drawn blanks in their first two fixtures, Jedrzejczyk has delivered more crosses than fellow full-back Lukasz Piczszek and has also equalled his team-mate for interceptions.

DraftKings contests for Tuesday’s matches are now available, including a $3 entry “Striker” with a $10k prize pot. The deadline for today’s contests is 5pm UK time.

DraftKings is available only to those aged 18 or over. Be sure to take note of their Terms and Conditions here and play responsibly.

I'm probably sticking with Bale. Would've got Boateng and Ronaldo coming up.

Seems OK. Boateng may not play, he's on a yellow. But you'll see that in time. If Boateng starts I'd be inclined to switch.

What's up everyone? Been busy yesterday so didn't really have time to think of FF.

Currently on Bale(c). At the moment my next captain options are Kroos/Hector/De Gea/Nolito and then the following day is Nani/De Bruyne. Worth making a change?

Germany defender is your safe pick if you want to stick. Should quite easily get the same as Bale, and has the margin to gain an extra 3. But can you really hope for more than 9 points, and if not, is the 3 point difference worth risk of losing 4-5 (in case of a yellow card)?

I'm on same captain points, with imo at least equal captain options, and I'm sticking.

Just thought I'd throw my thoughts on the (very disappointing but in some ways encouraging) England match into the mixer. Feel free to comment/criticize if you disagree!

Loads of people (at least the media, maybe not all the fans) seem to be blaming Hodgson for making 'six changes' and that those cost us the win. I disagree. A combination of outstanding Slovakian defending (particularly by Skrtel), some not-so-brilliant finishing and a relatively large helping of poor luck is what I think cost the game.

Two of the changes Hodgson made, Vardy and Sturridge, played and proved themselves in the last game. Introducing them from the start against Slovakia was a good move. They weren't outstanding against Slovakia, but that wasn't Roy's fault. They were stopped well by the Slovakian defence and were not too brilliant, but not dreadful.

Changing the full backs was also a good move. Walker and Rose have been excellent, but a rest after the amount of running they've done is no bad thing. Playing Bertrand and Clyne gave them a chance to prove themselves and let Walker and Rose regain some energy. Bertrand wasn't fantastic, admittedly, but he did the job. I expect Rose to take the LB from now on though. Clyne, however, was by a mile our best player. He was terrific! In Walker and Clyne, I think England have the best two RBs in the competition out of any team. It's a shame they can't both be on the pitch. (Can you think of anyone better?)

The changes to midfield were a mistake though. Henderson is sh*te full stop. Wilshere is clearly unfit and not ready to be playing. Rooney and Alli are fitter, are in better form and are just better in general. It makes no sense to drop them. That said, the changes in midfield are not the reason we drew. We had 30 shots. Would we have had much more than that with Rooney and Alli on the pitch? If so, not much. Even with Henderson and Wilshere on the pitch, we should have won that game, even if they shouldn't have been on the pitch.

Going forward, England look incredibly dangerous, and against stronger teams that don't sit back all match, we have a great chance of scoring. Hodgson thinks one of our future opponents is going to get a spanking. Not sure I entirely agree, but other teams are really going to struggle to beat us.

Clyne can play left-back. At half time I would have brought on Walker for Berty and Rooney for Hendo (I shouted at him so much I can't speak today).

I generally agree but it's just so frustrating to see a team with strikers as talented and in-form as they are not putting the ball in the back of the net. Something isn't right.

      So Hodgson.
He qualified with 100%. Easy group they say. Beat a lot of the top teams in friendlies. They are only friendlies they say. Then they complain that he doesn't start Studge or Vardy. Then they complain when he makes changes. It appears nothing less than a 5-0 win every game will do!

We have dominated every game but are having problems putting it in the net. Which is strange because we're playing with a lot of people who can score. I just feel there is a lack of creativity. No one to put it through to someone who can score, everyone trying to score.

I agree mostly with this article. It is a squad game, especially at a WC or Euro's where games come thick and fast. He needed to make changes to give players a rest and give others a chance to shine and improve match sharpness.

The first three games have been like watching Utd last season - lots of possession and domination of the game but lacking that quality/luck in the final third. With players this talented, all you can do is give players game time and the opportunity to impress. The rest is up to them. This is why I think Rooney and Alli needed to be replaced, especially Rooney who has played a lot of games and is the wrong side of 30.
