Captain Sensible – Gameweek 4

After a fortnight’s hiatus, it’s time to roll out our usual pre-Gameweek members article, offering insight on the armband conundrum ahead of tomorrow’s deadline.

We’ll assess the main candidates on offer, analyse the Opta numbers and check up on the Rate My Team ratings before offering up a couple of differential options in light of the data analysis.

The Captain Poll

A three-match suspension prevents Sergio Aguero from having the chance to top the captain poll for the fourth successive round of fixtures.

The Man City striker’s three-match ban has prompted a two-way tussle at the Gameweek 4 summit, with Eden Hazard and Alexis Sanchez duking it out with 25% and 24% respectively after returning double-figure hauls last time around.

Hazard has produced points in all three of his appearances under Antonio Conte and sits at the top of the FPL player standings. Next up for the Belgian is a trip to a Swansea outfit that were beaten 2-0 by Hull in their previous Liberty encounter.

After racking up 16 points away to Watford, the Chilean has risen back to his initial price of £11.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and faces a home encounter with a Southampton side yet to chalk up a clean sheet.

The small matter of a Manchester derby means Zlatan Ibrahimovic collects just 18% of the votes cast. With Aguero sidelined for the visitors, the big Swede will be looking to steal the headlines as Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola do battle for the first time in England.

Handed a rest over the international break, Zlatan netted twice in his previous home outing and has now reached over 60% ownership in FPL.

With Sanchez and Hazard regarded as the main contenders for Arsenal and Chelsea, their respective team-mates, Mesut Ozil and Diego Costa, remain under the armband radar.

Both found the net last time around, with Costa continuing his fine domestic form by bagging two goals and an assist for Spain over the last week or so.

Everton’s Romelu Lukaku also netted twice in the recent internationals and could be a real differential option with just 4% votes ahead of Monday’s trip to Sunderland.

Alvaro Negredo – the most transferred in player in FPL this season – has convinced 2% to back him with the armband as Middlesbrough prepare to entertain Palace.

West Ham duo Dimitri Payet and Michail Antonio – with just 1.7% and 0.7% – are also shaping up to be viable armband alternatives at home to a Watford side that has already shipped six goals.

          eeking out the extra cash as DeRoon is 4.4 - Middlesborough paid 12m for him so he's bound to play. As long as Amat starts I'm not fussed if Kingsley gets dropped, I can't remember the last time I used my third sub (bench boost apart).

          What are your thoughts on the rest?

      Lacking in midfield and too much dosh upfront for me. And McCauley is not nailed. Evans is a safer bet IMHO. I'd downgrade a striker and upgrade snod, red or cap. You only have 2 midfielders of quality, that not enough.

    Capoue or Puncheon? (changes formation)

    Valencia Williams Masuaku Evans (Amat)
    Sanchez Hazard Mane Antonio (Capoue)
    Ibra Lukaku (Diomande)

    Foster - Pickford
    Baines - Valencia - PVA - McAuley - Amat

    Finding it hard to see who i'm benching.
    Very tempted to drop PVA to Pieters, especially if he drops to 4.4.
    Swap Pickford to Given.
    WBA and Stoke have an extremely good fixture rotation.
    Baines and Valencia will play every week.
    Stoke and WBA defenders would then pick themselves.
    Thoughts?

    Pep Guardiola reveals Raheem Sterling can play as Manchester City's striker in Sergio Aguero's absence

    'I think he can play as a striker if we need,' Guardiola said. 'If you need a striker for the crosses, no. If you need a striker to move between the lines - movements behind the back four - he can do that.'

      Go for 3-5-2. Drop Stones as Ibra will likely score. Play Gray too, he has a point to prove

    Think I might go Ibrah even in the derby.

    He should be good for one.

    Foster Heaton
    Evans Valencia Colgate Collings Amat
    Sanchez Hazard Ozil Sterling Capoue

    1) Negredo vs Defoe?
    2) ozil vs antonio?
    3) Capitan this week?

      1) Defoe if you have cash
      2) since you have sanchez..neither (leaning towards Antonio because you could then upgrade diomande but Antonio needs monitoring if he´s again used as a defender not worth 7Mio)
      3) hard to say, I´m going with Sanchez as Haz has poor away stats

    Hye there, pleaseeee RMT

    Heaton (Foster)
    Walker - Stones - Valencia (Amat, Friend)
    Hazard - Redmond - Barkley - Townsend (Leko)
    Ibra - Kun - Gray

    Kun -> Costa, but i think thats not enough.

    Im thinking to WC:
    Walker -> Baines
    Friend -> Collins
    Leko -> Capoue
    Townsend -> Ozil
    Kun -> Costa
    Gray -> Negredo

    Not sure about Redmond.

    What do you say?

      Now is not the time to rush into gw3 flavour of the day Template.
      In about 8 hrs you'll be wishing you had a WC to buy into all the gw4 flavour of the day as half your team has blanked.
      & gw5 when you want Kun back you'll be finding it takes a hit to do it. except maybe Leko theres a decent recent reason to keep all the rest.& Leko is not enough cause to WC

      Kun to Costa is more than enough.

    Burning Dilemma!

    Sanchez

      Write as Sanchez/Lukaku Walcott/Gray Barkley/Mirallas

    I know this has been asked before but I'd like to ask it again, with the difference that I'm only interested in hearing answers from those who OWN BOTH Hazard and Sanchez (have an iffy feeling most of the Hazard sayers actually don't own Sanchez and therefore have a bias).

    So with that in mind, S och H?

      3-4-3 is good
      That means you should not have 4x 5.5 & 1x 5.0 defenders
      Clean sheets are not so simple as Home\away or fixture diff
      So normally a better strategy is 3 defenders always on total 16mn 1 backup of 4.5 & 1 permanent bench of 4.0 - alternately 2 x premium of 6 or 5.5 and 3 x 4.5 back ups.
      ars,mun,lei were last seasons clean sheet kings.
      but lei lost Kante.
      The decision who to have this season should be yours.

      Unsure of liverpools midfield options currently, could come better later when firminho isn't playing false 9. And Kane seems very out of form and not worth having currently. I think there are better options than those two otherwise looks decent.

    A) Sterling, Barkley and Diomande (in a 352 formation with Diomande benched.
    Or
    B) Capoue, Redmond and Lukaku (in a 343 formation with Capoue on the bench)

    Option B would mean no man city cover until Aguero returns.
