The Weekend Team News

Dimitri Payet looks poised for his first start of the season, according to Slaven Bilic. Tottenham’s Danny Rose is sidelined with a hamstring problem, Alex Iwobi is available for Arsenal, whilst Swansea’s record signing has a chance of making Sunday’s match with Chelsea.

Slaven Bilic confirmed he is looking to hand Dimitri Payet his first start of the season after the playmaker stepped up his fitness with a couple of sub appearances for France over the international break. Manuel Lanzini is now fully fit, whilst Sofiane Feghouli is back in full training and available for the Hammers.

George Friend, Victor Valdes and Martin de Roon have all recovered from injury in time to host Palace tomorrow. Fabio, James Husband and Grant Leadbitter remain sidelined, whilst Gaston Ramirez and Christhian Stuani will be assessed after arriving back late from internationals.

Hugo Lloris is available for Spurs’ trip to Stoke after recovering from a hamstring problem. Danny Rose is ruled out with a similar complaint and Mousa Dembele serves the last of a six-match suspension.

Kasper Schmeichel has recovered from minor hernia surgery ahead of Leicester’s trip to Liverpool. New boy Islam Slimani could be in line for a debut, though Nampalys Mendy and Jeffrey Schlupp are still sidelined through injury.

Alex Iwobi is back in the Arsenal squad after recovering from injury, whilst Alexis Sanchez and David Ospina will be assessed after arriving back late from internationals.

Seamus Coleman is back in contention for Everton’s trio to Sunderland after turning out for Republic of Ireland over the international break. James McCarthy is set for a spell on the sidelines after undergoing groin surgery and is joined on the sidelines by Darron Gibson. Tom Cleverley is expected to resume training on Saturday ahead of Monday’s match.

Fraser Forster has recovered from an arm injury as Southampton head to the Emirates. Ryan Bertrand could be in line for a first start, though new boy Sofiane Boufal is expected to take up to one month before reaching full fitness after undergoing knee surgery back in April.

Francesco Guidolin is hopeful he can include Swansea’s record signing Borja Baston on the bench as he steps up his match fitness. Neil Taylor will be pushing for a first start after improving his sharpness with a run out for Wales over the break.

Sadio Mane is available for Liverpool’s clash with Leicester after his midweek withdrawal whilst on duty for Senegal. Emre Can, Sheyi Ojo and Ragnar Klavan are sidelined though injury, though keeper Loris Karius has recovered quickly from a hand problem.

Eddie Howe was reluctant to confirm whether Jack Wilshere will make his first start for Bournemouth this weekend after arriving on loan from Arsenal. Josh King is a doubt for the Cherries’ clash with West Brom, though – he picked up a hamstring problem on international duties with Norway and has failed to train since.

Xherdan Shaqiri has failed to recover from a calf complaint and will miss Stoke’s home match with Spurs. Glenn Johnson is back in training and expected to be available, though Jack Butland is out for up to 10 weeks after undergoing ankle surgery Ramadan Sobhi and Geoff Cameron made a late return from international duties and will be assessed. Mame Biram Diouf is almost certain to miss out with a hamstring issue sustained for Senegal over the break.

Palace frontman Loic Remy has been ruled out for “seven to eight weeks” with a thigh injury.Midfield pair Yohan Cabaye and James McArthur are “touch and go”, according to Alan Pardew.

Stuck on last threat. Which combo do you prefer?

    A) Sanchez / Antonio / Chadli
    B) Ozil / Mane / Lanzini

Morning all, would appreciate some feedback on my WC team:

    Boruc
    Stones | Collins | McCauley
    Hazard (v) | Sanchez (c) | Lanzini | Barkley
    Zaza | Zlat | Defoe

    Lloris | Capoue | Shaw | Williams

£0.4m in the bank. Enough to turn Lanzini into Lamela but a little concerned about gametime with Sissoko coming in and a midweek trip to South America...

Your defence is weak. Use that extra 0.4 million to change Collins into Williams.

I thought that, but they rotate pretty well (Boruc has good games on the odd occasion I don't play Lloris) and not sure where I'd spend the extra £0.5m. Obviously it would be handy to go on with £0.9m in the bank, but still...

Arsène Wenger has revealed the latest team news ahead of the game against Southampton:

    - on team news
I haven’t seen Alexis and David Ospina because they arrived late last night. Everyone looks alright.

    - on if it will be a risk to play Alexis after travel
That’s a decision I have to make because we play on Tuesday night so I will see. I have to make that decision in the next 24 hours.

    - on Iwobi and Ramsey
Iwobi is back in the squad. The only one who is not ready is Aaron Ramsey. He is on the a good way, but not completely ready for Southampton or Tuesday.

I think this is also important. From another article:

Wenger on how the international break disrupts organisation:
"That’s a little bit the problem at the top level of competition. You do not have enough time to practise and you have many competitions. I could focus on the players that stayed here for the two weeks, and see how everybody comes back, maybe rest a few because we play again on Tuesday. The fact that I have a very complete squad [makes] these decisions easier."

Everybody here is saying Sanchez always plays when he comes back, but every year is not the same. He came back after Copa America and started playing straight off...even played the preseason while few of his other team mates were holidaying. Wenger has more options this year. That combined with his late arrival and CL on Tuesday is making me stay away from him on my WC team.

That wasn't the only point that I made. Plus just compare the rest period for Sanchez with the rest period for Giroud and u will have an answer to the point you made too.

Agree...but there are other factors too that you are ignoring. Arsenal has more options in that position. Plus CL on Tuesday. Plus the fact that overburdening Sanchez was one of the major factors that cost Arsenal the season last year.

Metro 2hrs ago: "Alexis Sanchez unlikely to start Arsenal’s clash with Southampton as Arsene Wenger prepares for Paris Saint-Germain...The former Barcelona man featured in both of Chile’s matches over the break and could be rested for new signing Lucas Perez.

Can someone tell me if Wenger has once rested a fit Sanchez for a premier league game, ever?

I remember a few times like this where there has been speculation, particularly coming back from international breaks, and Wenger says 'that's a decision I have to make in the next 24 hours'. But if we look at the decisions he has made - it's pretty emphatic evidence.

Not as though Southampton are pushovers either

Typical Wenger - says he's thinking of resting a player, plays him anyway because the player says he's fine and wants to play, then player gets injured.
I'm sure it's happened to other Arsenal players too.

Surely he has to get going soon, slow start last year and 20+ goals for the last two seasons.

Same core as last year just missing Dembele at the moment.

Downgrade Lanzini and upgrade Kane to Ibrahimovic. Lanzini isn't a good FPL pick, was only a popular choice last year because he cost less than 5m.

6 goals 3 assists last year

What makes you say he isn't a good pick?

I won't pick Ibra as I don't pick players from my own club. 1 rule I always stick to.

        Lukaku

Not 100% convinced on Benteke as CPL just don't score goals.

    Costa - Giroud - Benteke

It's different, I kinda like it.

Yes but i feel like he is actually the best pick in City's midfield. Sterling and Nolito have scored well but with City's team coming back to health i feel like they are both rotation risks. If i use this WC team i want to look into the future as well!

Problem is, as soon as Kun is back he's benched. A playing striker gives you less of a headache in a couple of weeks.
His strike rate is fantastic though.

According to Pep's last comment on Nolito being the main man for the derby,
I deduced that he will start Nolito up front. Kelechi will still be benched in that case.

Repost. So I'm sold on doing Aguero > Lukaku with my free transfer.

Question next is whether to point hit.

    A Redmond > Ozil
    B Lamela > Alexis
    C Hold off.

Current front 8: Firmino, Lamela, Redmond, Hazard, Lukaku, Ibra, Gray (Capoue).

    Bellerin vs. Koscielny

Is Bellerin worth 0.5 extra? Bellerin averaged 4.78 per match, 4.64 per match.

    1. Arteta
      • 8 Years
      7 years, 8 months ago

I just can't decide on this one. Bellerin is almost in 27% teams and Koscielny only in 5%.
