A busy Sunday of football comes to its conclusion at White Hart Lane as Spurs and Sunderland go head-to-head in the 4.30pm kick-off.

The hosts’ 4-0 win over Stoke last weekend boosted out faith in the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli, yet their midweek Champions League loss to Monaco at Wembley suggests Mauricio Pochettino’s side have yet to hit top gear.

Christian Eriksen and Erik Lamela owners are left cursing their luck after the duo were named amongst the subs, with Mousa Dembele returning to the XI following a six-match suspension.

Certainly, the home side will be buoyed by their visitors’ second-half capitulation at home to Everton on Monday night.

The Black Cats have yet to win under David Moyes and, considering their current form, may well be lucky to avoid a repeat of the 4-1 reverse in the corresponding fixture last season.

      Can facilitate a great attack (and rubbish defence). e.g.

      Pickford (Jaku)
      Evans - Holebas - Kelly (Amat, Kingsley)
      Sanchez - Firminho - Sterling - Antonio (Capoue)
      Aguero - Lukaku - Costa

        Just hasn't looked good enough to justify his price for me. His assist today was very dubious and other than that I didn't really notice him. Seems to be better value elsewhere, for the time being at least

          On WC and 50/50 for me. He is the standout (C) for week 7 at home against Stoke. He will get the service, Valencia/Rooney/Mik/Martial/Pogba/Mata/etc. can pick a pass. The issue is whether he's worth the 2.5m+ outlay over Lukaku for me.

          It basically comes down to Ibra/Snodgrass vs Lukaku/Sterling on my WC.

          Rest of mid - Sanchez.Firmino.Antonio.Capoue.

      Wondering that myself. Seeing a lot of people selling, but worried about his ownership. He was good against Watford, although he didn't get any service from the other players. Got an assist and was close to a goal, that's enough for me for still holding on.

      Selling because of the midfield he enables.

        Even poor / overrated teams can provide decent fantasy options. See Mata (or even Di Maria) for long spells when United were poor and finished outside the Top 4... You are talking about arguably Europe's best out and out striker (Messi/Ronaldo forwards, but you get my point) of the past decade...

    After a terrible start to the season and an OR of 920k, i'm very excited about my WC team. Next weekend can't come soon enough.

    Pickford - Jaku
    Williams - Vertonghen - McAuley - Holebas - Amat
    Sanchez - Sterling - Firmino - Antonio - Capoue
    Aguero - Lukaku - Deeney

    The plan is to play 3-5-2 with Deeney on the bench until Capoue starts blanking, then change to a 3-4-3.

    First season in FPL and I'm ranked 6537. Properly stoked! Some advice with my Aguero plan?
    Sterling -> Capoue
    Costa -> Aguero
    Or i could go a little more fancy and go
    Hazard -> Sanchez
    Costa -> Aguero
    Ozil -> Capoue
    Perhaps even Sterling -> Mane.

    Two of the most basic lessons I've learned from being on this site:

    1. Keep an eye on players' stats as they will give you an indication of who will start/stop getting points.
    2. Team structure is important.

    With that in mind, those who are picking Capoue as a fourth choice mid on their wildcards should be warned as (I think) he falls down on both those terms.

    I haven't seen Capoue's stats from today's game but the stats from the games before now all pointed to his goalscoring rate falling off. He had an unusually high conversion rate that seemed likely to drop back to a more reasonable level and a low amount of shots. Add in the fact that he has no set pieces (unlike Yaya from a few years ago) and everything pointed towards him overperforming to an unsustainable degree.

    In terms of team structure, his low price actually becomes a problem if/when his form drops off as replacing him will inevitably involve downgrading someone else with a second FT.

    I know people want him to be a genuine 4th mid option as he allows for so many heavy hitters elsewhere but, before you pin your wildcard on him performing regularly in the medium/long term, you should probably ask yourselves *how* he's going to do that.

    He's in form so feel free to play him. Just don't put yourself in a position where you have to do so week in and week out. He's a very good fifth mid, no more and no less. Imo, of course

      • 10 Years
      9 years, 10 months ago

      Wow, too much to read but you're probably right.
      With that said, he's still scoring and with those upcoming fixtures I simply cannot keep him on the bench. It hurts too much!!

      snoddy and capoue best way to go with 4th and 5th mids imo

    3. 824545201
      • 10 Years
      9 years, 10 months ago

      Best option is a cheap third striker and playing Capoue in a 3-5-2 until he starts blanking. Allows you more cash for a more traditional fourth mid.

    4. Nicks93
      • 12 Years
      9 years, 10 months ago

      I disagree. Stats are good indicator but they do not really tell the story with Capoue since he just seems to time his runs right to get into scoring positions.

      Regarding the point of team structure, Capoue as 4th mid enables 1 more heavy hitter than without. If Capue underperforms a heavy hitter downgrade and Capoue upgrade is easy enough. Id rather have 4 big hitters with capoue doing nothing than 3 heavy hitter with a bolasie or snodgrass

    5. Ibracadabra
      • 17 Years
      9 years, 10 months ago

      Think this is an excellent overview, but with his next 5 being Burnley, Bournemouth, Boro, Swansea, Hull, it's almost as if you can deal with him moving from your 4th to 5th slot in 5 weeks time, and plan for a switch then, while giving him a shot for the next 5 weeks.

      Personally, from a 4th mid, I would be happy with 3ppg-4ppg per game, that should be one of my worst scoring starting positions...

      So in the next 5 games, if he gets just 1 clean sheet and 1 goal, with only 1 bonus point, that is 3-2-2-8-2. 17 points over 5. Not amazing but not miserable. The question becomes what are the alternatives... It's a tough predicament surely, but I have some sour grapes here as have owned him all 5 weeks and all 44 points have been on my bench due to your exact line of reasoning.

      Why worried re: Valencia game time? Shaw injury prone and Rojo available to play LB. Team looks good, pretty template for WC teams around here I think..

      The lack of Lukaku in a purple patch of course is tough but the benefit of Ibra/Kun should more than make up for not having Lukaku.

      Wish EVE had been awarded a penalty since the Baines miss/make. If they had and Lukaku is on them, he is a clear frontrunner in the Costa-Lukaku-Ibra race for me, with that extra cushion of 3-5 goals this year coming his way. BUT if Baines is still on them, Ibra still seems a bit more consistent to me in the long term...
