Fantasy Football Scout Review – Gameweek 6

It was a case of defensive difficulties for The Scouts this week, but with everyone’s favourite Argentinian back surely the points would still roll in?

Captain Sensible

Sergio Aguero was back from his three match suspension this week and was promptly placed back to his rightful place as top pick for Captain Sensible this week with an easy away fixture against Swansea. The striker was able to get two goals and maximum bonus points to reward those that went with him as their captain choice. With Spurs up next it will be interesting to see if Aguero keeps his top spot under rate my team for Gameweek 7.

With a favourable fixture against Hull the table was full of Liverpool midfielders with Sadio Mane second overall. He duly delivered a goal in the 5-1 win, although was out of the bonus points. With an excellent run of fixtures to come we could see Mane and the other Liverpool midfielders continue to feature heavily as captain options.

In third spot was Zlatan Ibrahimovic who hasn’t featured that regularly towards the top of the Captain Sensible articles. Owners can consider themselves unlucky that he failed to get points in a 4-1 victory against Leicester, but with a home fixture against Stoke up next he could be one of the best options this weekend.

Spot the Differential

This week’s differentials featured a trio of players who play for clubs pushing for a top four place this season. Luckily for us Marcus Rashford (£6.9), Heung-Min Son (£7.5) and Alex Iwobi (£5.8) are still going under the radar and could be shrewd picks in the weeks to come.

Rashford has made a big impact since being brought into the first XI by Louis van Gaal last season. Scoring on every debut so far he had already picked up two goals in just 155 minutes this season.

Mourinho had said going into the Leicester game that pace would be needed and Rashford started for the second game in a row on the left side of an attacking front three. He rewarded owners with a goal to bring his tally to three for the season. With a home game against Stoke up next the 8% owned young England international could easily see that tally increase further.

Son started the season with a bang in Gameweek 4, scoring two goals and getting an assist during his first start of the season. While he failed to score in Gameweek 5 he still played the full 90 minutes. That brought him to The Scouts attention for Gameweek 6 and he responded with another two goals, taking him to four in just three games.

There will still be some concerns about rotation with the amount of midfield options that Spurs have, but with a goal in the Champions League last night to add to his Premier League goals Son looks in great form and could be a fantastic investment.

Iwobi started eight of Arsenal’s final nine league matches last season and was put straight into the starting lineup at the beginning of this season before getting injured. He was again put back into the starting lineup in Gameweek 5 and delivered two assists for owners.

Unfortunately in Gameweek 6 he was unable to get on the scoresheet or provide any assists but with a run of fixtures that includes Burnley, Swansea, Middlesbrough and Sunderland in the next four he could be a potential bargain for just £5.8m.

The only headache that Fantasy managers may run into is rotation as Aaron Ramsey makes a return to fitness, as well as the possibility of Olivier Giroud or Lucas Perez getting starts, which could see Alexis Sanchez pushed back out onto the right or left wing. Given the form Arsenal are in right now though, and how well Sanchez is playing up front, we may see Iwobi keep his starting position for the foreseeable future.

·         Gameweek 6 score – 2 points

·         Total score – 9 points (from a possible 18)

Scout picks

After a brilliant score of 79 last week it was a slightly different story this week for the Scout Picks.

Starting in defence there were fitness issues with both Leighton Baines and Dejan Lovren, who both missed out and returned zero points. After going 2-0 up there was some hope that Jordan Pickford would pick up a clean sheet against Crystal Palace. Unfortunately David Moyes’ men conceded three goals with Pickford not picking up any save points and finishing on a paltry one point. Completing the defence was John Stones who has now made five starts and failed to register a single clean sheet. The only clean sheet for Manchester City so far has come when Stones wasn’t in the team.

In midfield Etienne Capoue was given his first start in the picks but failed to return any points for only the second time this season. Involved in a game ,which saw his side score five goals, The Scout can feel a little aggrieved that Roberto Firmino failed to return any points.

Raheem Sterling did manage to get a goal and six points for The Scouts and has now returned in five of City’s first six league games. At just £8.6m he looks incredible value for money. Making up the midfield was Michail Antonio who, like Capoue failed to deliver for only the second game this season.

Up front it was a case of heavy hitter after heavy hitter. As we’ve already mentioned, Aguero scored two goals and came away with 13 points. Unfortunately Ibrahimovic and Romelu Lukaku failed to get on the scoresheet and produced no assists between them.

·         Gameweek 6 score: 32 (45 with captain)

·         Average score: 52 (59.8)

·         Total score: 312 (359 with captain)

·         Highest score: gameweek 5 – 79 (89 with captain)

Scoutcast

Clean Sheets

It was a full house of clean sheet predictions last week and the complete opposite this week with none of us managing to pick a clean sheet with each of our picks conceding just one goal, which means I just about keep my slender lead.

Jonty – Stoke – Total points 2

Mark – Everton – Total points 2

Andy – Liverpool – Total points 3

Granville / Luke – Spurs – Total points 2

Fantasy Island Risk

It was a great week for us this week as we saw only Mark fail to get attacking returns from the picks on The Scoutcast. Luke added a massive 15 points to Granville’s total after his pick of Son brought in a massive 15 point haul. I want to point out that he only picked the Spurs man as I snatched his top choice of Charlie Austin, who also delivered.

That now puts myself, Jonty and Luke/Granville in joint first place on 26 points. Meanwhile, Mark has a lot of catching up to do in terms of seeking out high quality, risky picks.

Jonty – Janssen (5) – Total points 26

Mark – Redmond (3) – Total points 13

Andy – Austin (12) – Total points 26

Granville/Luke – Son (15) – Total points 26

Think we need to have Greenwindmill vet our future fantasy island risks after my previous Sterling selection and Mark's choice of Walcott this week.

...also may need to contract out the defensive picks...disaster in GWK 6.

Not sure anyone can do better with defensive picks!
