Burnley continue their fine home record while Palace come from behind to avoid a shock against Bolton as the FA Cup third round replays go to form.

Burnley 2 Sunderland 0

Burnley eased past Sunderland and into the fourth round of the FA Cup in a match both sides could have been forgiven for wanting to lose.

Clarets’ boss Sean Dyche made seven changes to the team that beat Southampton on Saturday, with only midfield trio George Boyd (5.1), Steven Defour (5.7) and Jeff Hendrick (5.4), together with defender Michael Keane (4.9), retaining their places.

Sunderland, by contrast, fielded a side much closer to their first XI, with the benching of the 29.3%-owned Jermain Defoe (7.9) the main decision by David Moyes, who also brought in Billy Jones (4.4) and George Honeyman (4.5) as his only other changes from the weekend. Jack Rodwell was their latest injury casualty, ruled out with a knee problem sustained in the defeat to Stoke City.

The goals came from Sam Vokes (5.9), assisted by defender Tendayi Darikwa (4.2), and substitute Andre Gray (6.2), who was set up by Boyd.

Gray, a 5.3%-owned Fantasy asset, had not scored in two league matches, but now has five goals from his last six fixtures in all competitions.

Defoe was brought on in the second half, but was ill-served by a side that managed just two attempts on goal.

Post-match, Moyes rued his squad’s lack of depth.

“I’m really disappointed because we are threadbare at the moment. There were some positives – George (Honeyman) played well for us tonight and we played with three at the back to see if we could stop Burnley bullying us a little bit defensively.”

A change of formation to a three-man backline does have the potential to allow another relatively popular Sunderland asset, the 4.4%-owned Patrick van Aanholt (5.0), a more attacking role.

But Defoe, who has scored four times in Sunderland’s current four-match winless run in the league, remains the Black Cats only real Fantasy attraction.

Burnley will now play Bristol City at Turf Moor on Saturday, January 28, before the Gameweek 23 visit of Leicester on the following Tuesday.

Burnley XI: Pope, Darikwa, Keane, Tarkowski, Flanagan, Kightly (Gray 77), Boyd (O’Neill 90), Barton, Defour, Hendrick, Vokes.
Subs not used: Robinson, Mee, Lowton, Ward, Jackson.

Sunderland XI: Mannone, Jones, Denayer, Djilobodji, van Aanholt, Manquillo, Larsson, Love (Defoe 63), Honeyman, Januzaj, Borini (Asoro 80).
Subs not used: Mika, O’Shea, E Robson, Embleton, T Robson.

Crystal Palace 2 Bolton Wanderers 1

Christian Benteke (7.4) came off the bench to score twice in 30 minutes and give Sam Allardyce his first win as Palace manager.

The 5.7%-owned Belgian hasn’t scored in the league since Gameweek 15 – the end of a purple patch during which he netted five times in as many matches – and has suffered a major decline in ownership and price as a result.

A return to form could reverse both those trends as Palace prepare for a vital run of fixtures involving Everton, Sunderland and Middlesbrough at home and trips to Bournemouth, Stoke City and West Brom.

Allardyce made seven changes to the team well beaten by West Ham at the weekend, but having talked up new signing Jeffrey Schlupp (4.8) pre-match, the former Leicester man was not eligible to make the squad.

Midfielder Sullay Kaikai (4.5) was given his first ever Eagles start, while Joel Ward (4.8), Damien Delaney (4.8), Andros Townsend (5.9) and Joe Ledley (4.4) were the only survivors from Saturday’s side.

Palace were on course for a loss before Allardyce chanced his arm with a triple substitution. Benteke responded by heading home a Mathieu Flamini (4.3) cross and then steered home the winner from a Townsend assist.

The manager didn’t dwell on the victory for long post-match, spending much of the time talking of the need to strengthen his squad.

“We are spreading our wings far and wide and hopefully in the next 48 hours, at least one of those targets will be saying yes, pass a medical and sign for us. It’s hard to say how many we’re looking for; we’ve had about five, six or even eight bids in for players across Europe and in this country, and we’ve only had one accepted, which is Jeffrey Schlupp.”

The Eagles’ immediate schedule is certainly demanding. The FA Cup victory means they’ll entertain Man City in the fourth round on Saturday, January 28 – three days before they travel to Bournemouth for Gameweek 23.

City will have the benefit of an extra day off before their trip to West Ham on the Wednesday evening.

Crystal Palace XI: Speroni, Ward, Kelly, Delaney (Tomkins 62), Fryers, Lee, Flamini, Ledley (Puncheon 63), Townsend, Kaikai, Remy (Benteke 62).
Subs not used: Hennessey, Phillips, Cabaye, Husin.

Really struggling to know what to do with my team now. Need to get rid of Origi but should I invest in a midfielder or a third striker?

    Heaton - Jakupovic
    McAuley - Baines - Walker - Ward - Amat
    Sanchez - Eriksen - Hazard - Phillips - Clayton
    Ibra - Defoe - Origi

    0.6m ITB

Ideally I would love to get Kane in long term, but money wise I can't see an easy way of doing it without losing Ibra, Sanchez or Hazard. All have scoring potential and with Hazard and Ibra on set pieces I'd ideally like to keep them.

Normally I have some sort of plan in my head, but at the moment I'm worried I'll hang onto Origi for too long and be unable to swap him for anyone with the price rises.

    Any ideas?

Origi/Hazard to Lukau/Coutinho after the weekend is one. Doable?
      Origi/Clayton to 4.5/Stannis could be a 3-5-2 move

Lukaku/Coutinho isn't (-£0.4m) however Lukaku/Lallana is. Might be an option. Lukaku has never gone well for me so I tend to stay away. Still, his overall points scoring isn't too shabby considering he's not on penalties. Most of the other strikers around him in the tables are.

        4.5/Stannis could be a shout - thanks!

You should invest in 3rd striker. Origi to rondon. But you can also go for origi>carroll and defoe>giroud. defoe is good player but sunderland are struggling

I feel your pain. Been wondering about (VVD) also but they should keep a clean sheet this weekend. Cedric looks sound for this week. Can look at Southampton next week.
I have no doubt but there congested fixture schedule is not helping and there is no sign of that easing anytime soon either. I will look to shift VVD also buy not this week. They held out liverpool only last week.

Any idea which of these plans will send me on the path to glory?

(I'm trailing by 120 points, but won't give up)

    A) Pogba + Lukaku + Phillips+ Hazard this week
Stanislas + Lukaku + Phillips + Sanchez Next week (-4 points)

    B) Sanchez + Hazard + Benteke + McAuley this week
Sanchez + De Bruyne + Benteke + McAuley next week (no hit)

Are posts like these simply too hard to understand?

Maybe an easier way to put it is to ask whether getting Sanchez in this week is Worth having to play 4-4-2 for two weeks, with McAuley (SUN, mid), rather than taking a hit and playing Phillips.

Hi all. Some thoughts on the following please. My team is :

    Foster - Pickford
    McAuley - prodyl - pieters - Alonso - browning
De room - hazard - Sanchez - Phillips - pogba
    Ibra - aguero - Barnes

    I have 0.5 itb and 2ft
My original plan was to do hazard and prodyl/pieters - > coutinho and baines. But cannot believe I'm about to say this but I'm a bit concerned about Aguero with pep.
Hazard has hull and I don't have enough funds to just get baines.
    Any suggestions?

Okay just to summarise the 4.3m or below def category:

    A. Love - playing OOP, but is he nailed?
    B. Yoshida - but for how long, Fonte return or replacement. And he's a bit crap.
    C. Britos - meh but nailed'ish
    D. Holgate - will play in some games, when they play 3 x CB's. But how many games?
    E. Robertson - those Hull fixtures 😮 but Jaku will make them tighter.
    F. Swansea - Naughton, Rangel, Fernandez, Knightly - just a mess.
    G. Collins - Collins. Any news on Byram?
    F. Muinesa?

I need to eventually replace Kone (so about 4.3m) & Amat (4.0m), with two from above.

Oh Ake, you could've become an FPL legend 🙁

I would recommend Manquillo. Seems he will play, no matter if on CB or RB or RWB.

Wait on Nyom update? Double up on the baggies with those sweet fixtures, surely some CS due. Otherwise I agree with Lawro

Florin Gardos has spawned tonight to the Saints bench, he could well get some games in the coming weeks. No Yoshida for me, Robertson maybe after couple of weeks..

No good playing options, which is why i want to downgrade haz & free up some cash to upgrade defence & add another big hitter to play every week

Does this sound a good plan>

Lallana to Sanchez + Defoe to Crouch

Would give me a team of:

    Foster/Pickford
    Alonso/Cedric/McAuley/Holebas/Amat
    Sanchez/Hazard/Erikson/Stanislas/Capoue
    Ibra/Costa/Crouch

Feel I've just got to get Sanchez into my team, but I don't want to lose Hazard, Erikson, Ibra, Alonso or Costa...

i think you should lose hazard. he is not performing for what he costs. losing him will help you to upgrade stanislas

Thanks. I want to keep Hazard, he's always been a player who scores in spurts, and reckon another one is coming. He's still the second highest-scoring midfielder, and the third highest overall.

    2.) Siggy > Pedro FT
    3.) Siggy to Hazard FT

    Heaton - Robinson
    Alonso - Rose - Baines - Evans - Amat
    Sanchez - Eriksen - Coutinho - Pedro - Phillips
    Ibra - Lukaku - Crouch

    Where to invest the 1.6ITB?

You shouldn't invest it this week, but I'd look at switching to a 3-4-3 with the extra funds... but it looks great for this week

Is having no main Chelsea players a concern between GW23 and GW26?

Currently, have Hazard but will ditch after this GW... Thinking of Wildcarding at GW26 to reintroduce some Chels before their nice run of fixtures.

    Current line up:

    Heaton (Jaku)
    Baines, Gibson, Brunt (Ake, Kingsley)
Hazard, Sanchez, Alli, Phillips (de Roon)
    Giroud, Kane, Ibrahimovic

Need some advice guys.. trailing the ML leader by 38 points (after making major ground over the last couple of GWs).

    Heaton, Jaku
    Jones - Rose - Baines - Yoshida - Chambers
    Alexi - Phillips - Alli - Stanislas - Rodriguez
    Zlatan - Crouch - Kun
    1ft w/ 2.7 itb

Rodriguez to mirallas/barkley or Kun to Lukaku?
Would Tadic be an option ?

Afternoon everyone. Wondering what you make of this going in to the coming gameweek.

    Heaton
    Alonso//Baines//Brunt
    Sanchez(C)//Phillips//Coutinho//Stanislas
    Kane//Lukaku//Ibra

    Jaku//Van Aanholt//De Roon//Wasilewski

Want to do Kane-->Costa, Stanislas-->Eriksen and Van Aanholt-->Mee next week. Thoughts?

    Thanks

      Virgil Van Dijk

OK guys. What to do with the above. ( I have him)

He would make any team but not cutting it in FPL.

Who is an adequate replacement. He would be my No.2 defender in the following lineup.

Alonso Van Dijk Brunt Gibson Holgate

      Do I upgrade him to...

      A. Walker
      B. Valencia
      C. Baines
      D. Another

Not convinced on Baines and holgate in the same team.

Walker is 0.7m outlay and not sure if he justifies that. Especially when you consider I could go to valencia and that would mean a 0.9m swing in favour of the bank.

Any other man utd hidden gems. Really fancy their upcoming schedule.

      Any reason to hold....

      Guys, need some help here.

triggered my wildcard to reset my team

Currently with the following team with no money remaining:
      Hennessy, Jakupovic
      Yoshida, Amat, Williams, Friend, Brunt
      Phillips, Fletcher, Sanchez, Coutinho, Eriksen
      Costa, Ibra, Lukaku

Feel that my defence is kinda weak, previously had Alonso. Really wanted to bring Lukaku in.

Anywhere I should downgrade to boost my defence?

Sorry for multiple posts, decided to take out Costa and downgrade Coutinho.
        Team looks like this now:

        Heaton, Jakupovic
        Yoshida, Amat, Chambers, Alonso, Brunt
        Stanislas, Fletcher, Sanchez, Lallana, Eriksen
        Giroud, Ibra, Lukaku

        Any comments?

Could do with some help, I've wildcarded and am mulling over my options.

      Robles
McAuley / Alonso / Monreal / Jones (Walker)
Phillips / Alli / Sanchez (Feghouli / Davies)
      Lukaku / Kane / Ibra

      - Thinking of dropping Kane + cheaper midfielder and bringing Eriksen & Costa in
      - Dropping Monreal and bringing in a cheaper defender
      - Dropping Robles for a cheaper GK & bringing Baines in.

      Thoughts?
