Scout Notes – Champions League – Tuesday

One of the more eventful Champions League encounters had everything bar Elvis parachuting in to eat a meat pie in stoppage time. For Fantasy managers, it was a bittersweet experience, as we witnessed the City attack demonstrate power and potential at a time when their assets are off the menu.

Manchester City 5 Monaco 3

Eight goals, bookings galore, a missed penalty and another spot-kick denied when it would usually have resulted in the Monaco goalkeeper being dismissed – apart from all that it was just another match.

And then there was Sergio Aguero rediscovering his form just as his side is likely to miss two of the next three Gameweeks

The Argentinian scored twice, laid on another and was booked for diving when on pretty much any other day he would have earned a penalty.

Both Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane found the net and produced assists, with City’s other goal coming from a John Stones tap-in following a Yaya Toure flick on.

David Silva also provided an assist, while Willy Caballero, again preferred to Claudio Bravo, saved a penalty to atone for an earlier error that led to Monaco’s first-half equaliser.

From a Fantasy perspective, however, this is no time to be considering City assets – they already miss this weekend’s scheduled Manchester derby as their nearest rivals will be playing Southampton in the EFL Cup final.

And even if they were to lose at home to Huddersfield in next Wednesday’s FA Cup replay, thus guaranteeing a Gameweek 28 match with Stoke, their next three fixtures after that are Liverpool at home and Arsenal and Chelsea away.

Small wonder, then, that only three of the squad – Stones, Sterling and Aguero – still enjoy more than 10% ownership figures, while Sterling, Kevin De Bruyne and the injured Gabriel Jesus are all in the top 15 for sales this week.

Gameweek 32 looks like being the time to look again at Pep Guardiola’s charges as City have a very attractive run-in and, almost certainly, two double Gameweeks to follow.

That could well put Aguero et al back on our radars, but even then things remain complicated.

The start of that favourable run-in – a home match against Hull City – arrives just three days before a potential Champions League quarter-final tie, making squad rotation yet another factor to consider.

Wait, see and enjoy the ride is probably the best advice on offer as far as Manchester City are concerned at the moment.

Man City XI: Caballero, Sagna, Stones, Otamendi, Fernandinho (Zabaleta 62), Toure, Sane, Silva, De Bruyne, Sterling (Navas 89), Aguero (Fernando 87).
Subs not used: Bravo, Nolito, Delph, Iheanacho.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

    Aguerno or yes?

With an impressive display in Europe last night and with Jesus, his chief rival for a first XI spot, now injured, should we now be considered drafting Aguero in from Gameweek 29.

From then he will have at least one double Gameweek which makes him an enticing prospect.

But can we still be certain he will play? And will Pep look to dampen his attacking threat in the league, as he has done before this season?

Is it a case of Sterling for consistency, Sane for a risk and Aguero's 12.8 too much?

It was impressive...against a team determined not to actually defend.

Pep's style for City hasn't changed. Sterling benefits the most, so get him for DGWs; Aguero is left fighting for scraps. Avoid.

May consider him for the DGWs but apart from that steering clear of City assets till their fixtures ease up and they go out of some competitions to reduce rotation risk.

I agree, a wait and see. It will also depend on how well the likes of Ibra, Kane, Costa and Lukaku perform. Sterling looks a fine choice at his price, and worth any risk of slight rotation.

Aguero, Ibra and Sanchez all very likely to have an extra DGW than everyone else after GW28. Could well be the golden trio to have as season keepers if on a WC on or shortly after GW29.

        For sure.

Aguero's fixtures from GW32 are unbelievable and with Jesus out the rotation threat is gone for me.

No pens, possibly. But we see last night he has captaincy potential which is ideal with a heavyweight but differential option.

No shortage of cash for the run in given team value.

Sterling is the preferred option for me. Been consistent, seems to be starting most games and no need to drastically alter your team or find funds to bring in. 12.8 seems too much with the other forwards (Lukaku, Ibra, Costa, Kane) all producing for less.
Unless Aguero now starts each game with the form of old then will have to rethink...

    12. Rossonero
      • 9 Years
      7 years, 3 months ago

Hard to say, a lot of pro's and con's...if he hits form he is hard to ignore but on the other hand City is still in 3 competitions and rotation will be a factor, especially since he seems to be doing a lot more defansive work then before. Also there is always the Pep factor - you never know what's going on in his head.

Only one thing is certain for me - KdB is dead as fantasy option at the moment.

Aguero surely will start. Before Jesus came, he was a certain starter, the ones which he didn't start were when he returned from an injury layoff or ban.

No doubt he will be in my team after the blanks 🙂

I told myself that I wouldn't be picking up a City player for the rest of the season; the rotation risk is too great. Not going near Aguero, but somewhat tempted by Sane/Sterling after the blanks.

I'm thinking about getting him in next week, definitely will if they lose in the cup - his next three fixtures after GW28 aren't brilliant though...wish he was on pens.

I think just to dismiss Aguero based on his price could be foolish. He could still end up being explosive and worth the investment with the DGWs.

At 12.8 Aguero has to be playing every game, and getting and converting big chances every game. I guess last night's brace makes him a consideration, but there's a way to go before I would consider pursuing him.

The criteria has to be strict because Kane, Ibra and Costa are significantly cheaper and represent secure and consistent points.

I'm curious as to whether Sane can keep his place. Showing signs of cementing a spot and seems to be a real threat now that he's settled. Could be a handy differential.

Assuming City beat Huddersfield, he has three cup games and a league game between now and GW29. The FFS consensus will probably make two or three U-turns in terms of whether he's essential or overpriced. We should wait and assess later.

Maybe later, close to the DGWs he might be an option. But owning him means many of us are less able to afford other mid-range players from top teams who also have DGWs. The likes of Pedro and Walcott may offer a much better return and together they only cost 1.6m more than Kun at the moment. Sterling and Sane look like much better value me, and Yaya has pens.

how was his performance even close to 'impressive'???

huge mistake from Subasic for the first goal (his shot wasn't even good), and good volley for the second but how on earth could he be allowed so much room on a corner kick, with the ball coming from so high? realy poor defending on that goal too.

will give him some confidence back for sure but there is nothing abt his performance last night that makes me think of bringing him on right now.

    Hi all

Transfers made, but wrestling with the lack of spurs players. I'm well equipped for 28 but feel like I could get pummeled on Sunday only have Alli. ML rivals have at least 3 spurs, all own Alli.

So... worth bringing in Eriksen in for Fletcher for a -4?

    Jaku / Randolph
Alonso Brunt RFM / Pieters Amat
    Fletcher Alli Antonio Siggy Mane
    Kaku © Rondon / Ibra

Feel like it's worth it, but what do you guys reckon? Will be on 10 for gw28.

Here is my team I can field 11 this week but the downside is that I have to play De Roon as well. Or I can do Sanchez to one of the Liverpool mids.

    Heaton
    Funes Mori, Brunt, Alonso, Robertson
    Phillips, Sigurdsson, Eriksen, De Roon*
    Kane (C), Lukaku

Bench - Pickford, Holgate, Ibrahimovic & Sanchez.
    0 Fts & 0.9 ITB

The popular move is to bring in one of Mane/Coutinho/Firmino.

I'm not sure if I want to make the above move or not.

      Sanchez to Mane
No point keeping him since he will not provide great returns in the next 3 gws

Pickford to Jaku for a hit and play him over Grant this week and GW28 ?

If you won't be able to get a playing GK for GW28 (and field 11 players) without hits that i would do it

nah not for a hit, Grant should get some save points at least

i have the same 2 GKs and will be doing Pick --> Jaku prior to GW 28 (provided nothing else urgent comes up)

Apologies if i has already been answered but do we know when we will get confirmation for the rearranged fixtures? I assume we will not get a full list for a while due to ongoing cup commitments?

Depend on when all the DGWs are scheduled. Probably GW36, so I can bench boost GW37. But it might make sense to play it sooner.

No idea, will be a big call!

Ideally there will be lots of double gameweek matches early on then it makes the WC call easy. But if it's looking like more games in say week 37 then theres huge points to be had and the WC then could be massive.

your plan looks the best options at the moments, but there will be a third DGW (assuming there's no TGW) somewhere before the end of the season, with at least two (maybe six) team's with DGW's in it.

Keep in mind that you don't always lose sell value if he drops 0.1. He's at 11.7 today and i bought him at 11.4, so even if he drops to 11.6 i still sell him for 11.5.

Something i didn't think about at the start of the season. As soon as i saw that they were dropping i rushed to get them out regardless of my paying price.

Depends, if you have Azpi i would bench him because he doesn't have much attacking threat, but if you have Luiz then i would play him for possible header or freekick goal.

Double and pray Siggy doesn't score against your Chelsea defenders. One Chelsea D and Siggy, is no win unless your defenders get's attacking points.

Nope, he told the Swedish media right after the last meet he hoped to increase his record against them in this game and that he was looking forward to it.
Other Swedish media sites today also seem to think he will start.

Of course Mou will have something to say about it.

    Current team

    Grant Pick
    Holebas Walker McAuley Baines Amat
    Alexis Alli Siggy Philips Fletcher
    Kane Ibra Lukaku

    2 FT.

    Plan is:

    26: Alexis to Mané
    27: Amat to Mawson
28: Alli to Firmino/Cout - Pick to Jaku

Would give me 10 playing in 28.
