The Knee Jerk – Gameweek 32

If only there was a different Fantasy Premier League chip – one that allows you to extend the allowed allocation for one particular team in our squads – then we’d be far more content tonight.

As it is, we can only choose three members of Mauricio Pochettino’s irrepressible Spurs side and, right now, that proves rather problematic.

I almost felt like curling up in a corner after deciding to sell Son Heung-min. But, having played the percentages with my late acquisition of Dele Alli, my ill-fated Gameweek 32 transfers were undoubtedly driven by this very issue.

With Harry Kane returning to the picture and both Alli and Eriksen maintaining relentless form, even the brilliant and combustible Son struggles to justify selection.

There’s no questioning his value to us at present – priced at 7.0, his goal threat and flair is a hugely tempting proposition. His devastating 19-point return is destined to see him earn a flood of new owners and yet, as mentioned, the likes of Kane, Alli and Eriksen surely have to remain Spurs’ top three assets.

Alli’s sublime strike for Spurs’ opener means he has now produced 13 goals from his last 15 Gameweek starts. He is by far the top scoring midfield asset over that spell and simply has to claim a berth for the run-in.

Meanwhile, Kane’s return shakes up the situation up front but, like Alli, his potential surely has to force our hand.

He scored 12 goals from 10 Gameweek starts before being derailed by injury and, in this efficient Spurs attacking unit, he promises to go on delivering at that kind of rate. With 6.7 points per match, he remains peerless among FPL forwards.

Then there’s Eriksen, perhaps the most disposable of the three, but still a prime Fantasy asset. His assist today took him to 14 for the season, with ten arriving in his last nine home matches. Only Alli and Bournemouth’s Josh King has scored more points than the Dane over the last 15 Gameweeks.

It’s so difficult to justify looking beyond this trio, then, even with Son’s obvious appeal on offer.

Significantly, we have to consider that, should Pochettino revert to a three-man defence with wing-backs, Son’s starting role will no longer be assured.

Eriksen and Alli will likely support Kane, with the wing-backs providing width and Victor Wanyama and Mousa Dembele sitting deep. Son would be reduced to rotation and cameo roles at that point – and that point could arrive very soon.

Spurs take on Chelsea in an FA Cup semi-final following the Gameweek 33 home clash with Bournemouth. Pochettino seems set to go into that Wembley tie with a formation that mirrors Chelsea – reverting to 3-4-2-1, with Rose perhaps fit to return. Will he switch back following the semi-final? It’s certainly a consideration for those pondering a move for Son.

At least today’ teamsheet at White Hart Lane offered an obvious fall-guy to free-up a spare Spurs slot.

With the 36% owned Kyle Walker benched for a second Gameweek in three, he is already topping the sales charts as managers clear the decks for investment in midfield and attack.

It’s unfortunate that, with the Chelsea defence still unable to claim clean sheets, we can’t look to Spurs to help reinforce out backlines.

But with such attacking riches on offer, if we’re being forced to overlook Son’s form, then a rested Walker and even budget proposition Ben Davies, have little hope of claiming one of our now treasured Spurs allocations.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I have Son, Alli and Vertonghen. Plan was to get rid of Son to get Kane in for Costa. But, after yesterday, getting rid of Son seems crazy.

What's best to get Kane in?

Definitely keep Alli. I think Son's output will be limited with Kane back so I would make that trade but if your gut say's to hang on then ship out vert I guess.

C - Lukaku, Siggy Snoddy -> Kane, Walcott, T. Caroll? Does that give you enough funds.

What I'm trying to work out is...this wretched VORP theory.

In my case, I own Kun and Sanchez. But would I be better off with cheaper options allowing me to afford, say, Eriksen, who I haven't owned all season long due to budget?

So my midpark would look like: Coutinho, Alli, Eriksen, JWP, Siggy rather than: Sanchez, Cappooee, Siggy, JWP and Alli.

If you can answer this question, you have cracked the code to this season.

I dont have the complete answer to the question. But the way I see, you need to plan who you going to cap each gw. If youre not gonna cap Sanchez most of the weeks, Eriksen ticks along well enough and better for your team.

      Cap for gw34, 35, 36 and the big 37 plus the 38.

You see anywhere that you want Sanchez as cap choice?

I can't say i would captain Sanchez at all when out on the wing. Wish I had traded to Hazard this GW to be honest but I bottled it. In the Arsenal side as it is I don't think he's with his price.

Llorente to Kane ideally...no idea how to make the finances work though.

Walker is now an issue for you. Siggy is also now somewhat expendable...those are the two that I'd use as makeweights.

Would mean a -8 though...maybe soften the blow by bringing in DGW players for them...Gibson & Zaha?

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

How are you dealing with Tottenham’s incredible collision of strong fixtures and stellar form?

With 18 goals in their last six Spurs are comfortably the Premier League’s most in form side.

They also have one of the best fixture runs with Bournemouth at home, palace and West Ham away over the next four and with a double Gameweek on the horizon.

But with just three spaces available how are you tapping into their potential?

Is Kane essential up front? What of Son’s exceptional value? And as for Alli’s threat and Eriksen’s chance creation how can they miss out.

And then there’s the defence, which has shipped just four goals in their last six (second best in the league) and kept three shut outs over that period.

Surely one of their defenders is a must too?

1 defender (Vertonghen), 1 midfielder (Alli), 1 striker (Kane). Easy.

I have Alli and now Kane.....happy with that combo for the time being, especially as Kane will be my captain against Bournemouth.

There are so many other options from other teams that I'm not sure I'll get three. Although I can certainly see why others would.

Walker has burnt me the last three weeks since bringing him in with a massive two points in three games. I'm not putting up with that crap so I've taken a hit to remove him. Also bought in Kane to complete the Tottenham Holy Trinity of KA'n'E.

Unfortunately I'd love to have Son also, but hey, we can't have them all.

      Alli and Kane must haves.

Then it's between Eriksen and Son - the former safer, the latter more expensive.

Forget abt their defenders - Walker and Trippier rotate, Davies and Rose will too if the latter ever comes back this season, Alderweireld is too expensive to buy and Vertonghen is not an exciting prospect at all.

So it really is between Son (short term) or Eriksen (long term)

Davies, Alli and Kane for me and I'm very happy. But I don't think that you can go wrong with any three of them or Walker, Son or Erikson. As long as you have three you're golden.

Having got Alli for Sterling this week I've used up my Kane funds saved from binning Brunt. I've also had Toby for ages and unless I wildcard I don't have the transfers to let him go but I'm happy with him anyway.

I think I'll do Sig>Zaha to fund Kane in for Lukaku but not this week I'll give Sig one more game then do it for free. I may however give Benteke that berth first for the DGW34 then get Kane GW35 or wildcard.

I had Kane as soon as he came back before Xmas. IMO he's the most essential and consistent player in the league. He's goal record is insane for a player still quite young.

      Davies, Eriksen, Alli.

      Aguero and Ibra match Kane

Apart from Sanchez and Hazard (I own both) who can match Eriksen if I drop him as Alli is undropable at the moment.

Happy owner of Son, Alli and Eriksen for the last couple of weeks, not sure if I want to change that short term. Dont see Son being dropped in this form and Kane could need a couple of weeks to sharpen imo

Kane looked sharp enough yesterday, put one on a plate for Son, rounded the keeper and couldn't beat the last defender, hit the crossbar with a late free kick, had a header saved by the keeper, this was all in 30 odd mins.

    18. Pep says
      • 8 Years
      7 years, 20 days ago

I think Kane is a must. Then Alli over Eriksen for me. 3rd spot goes to Son for his explosiveness.

I shipped Davies last night to Gibson to allow Ibra to Kane. Had 2fts saved for it.

As you said, Spurs face Bournemouth at home and Palace and West Ham away. Bournemouth are scoring against everyone. Palace and West Ham battling relegation, they won't sit back and defend so I wouldnt say clean sheets are a given. Even if they do keep a cleanie, defenders are not as likely to pick up bonus pts because of the attack Spurs are wielding. A good defence with the likes of Palace, Southampton, Middlesbrough players who can rotate and offer bonus pts along with Son's explosiveness is much more effective than Davies/Walker (who's being rotated) /Vertongen and a Son replacement. Zaha, Siggy, Tadic all in this price bracket. These guys cannot offer what Son can.

So, for me its Kane, Alli and Son. Son will depart in a few weeks, I may get a Spurs defender in then for the double, I'll see

100% agree with you and it is my plan too.

Son isn't part of Poch's forst choice 11. So the only real choice is who joins Kane and Alli - Eriksen or a defender. Trouble is, if it's a defender, who's nailed on and providing the value?

      1. Pep says
        • 8 Years
        7 years, 20 days ago

Son won't be dropped after that performance. Son even came out and said 'the manager told me to save it for next week'. He is in the form of his career and Spurs are nursing some injuries in midfield so Potch will keep Son Alli and Eriksen behind Kane. Maybe Eriksen might drop a little deeper to allow the wing backs to overlap. Either way, Son will start next week. Probably get subbed of around the 70minute mark

      2. A.J.

I wouldn't be 100% sure on Son starting next week. As I pointed out to someone last night, Wanyama definitely starts if fit so someone has to make way. It certainly won't be Dele or Eriksen.

If Poch goes back to wing backs, the very unlucky Son would be the one to drop out.

I originally got Kane in GW14, Erik in GW16 and Alli (too late) in GW23, and had them all for 4 GWs before I sold Alli for a City mid for their DGW. Even though Spurs weren't quite scoring for fun back then, it still worked well.

In hindsight, I should have kept them all 🙂

I only sold Kane due to injury in GW29, and got Alli back as part of the trade. I now have Kane back too, so back to the "awesome 3". Barring injury they will probably all stay to the end.

No other team can match their attacking powers, but you can find defenders from other teams that can matched their defenders, so I am more than happy with the 3 I have chosen.

I can see the appeal of Son, at his price. Perhaps yesterday's performance may cloud our judgements somewhat, or it may be it's a sign of things to come. For the gambler, I can certainly see the appeal of playing him over Eriksen, but I can also see Eriksen's greater potential with assists for Kane.

Kane looks a must now. I have Son and Eriksen though so can't really justify getting him just yet with Zlatan having a double right around the corner.

Dropping Lukaku for the next two at home is unthinkable.

I have 3 less popular options (Eriksen, Son & Davies) comparing to Kane, Alli & Walker and I'm not sure how I feel about it. I'm gonna keep Son (turned out to be amazing 4 weeks punt) for at least one more week and then reasses. They seem like a good value to me but I know we have to adjust every single GW. I don't want to destroy my team to get Kane this week unless one of Agüero/Lukaku get injured.
