The Stock Check – Gameweek 36 – Saturday

Two Belgians shine, four Foxes catch the eye and, finally, even a Sunderland man enjoys himself. But Fantasy Premier League’s most popular player blanks on the road once again as managers continue to bail out.

Here’s Saturday’s Stock Check.

On the Rise

Kevin De Bruyne
Remember him? The Belgian was a Fantasy staple last season, delivering seven goals and ten assists from midfield.

This campaign has been a rather more stealthy affair, but a stellar performance in the 5-0 rout of Crystal Palace earned him 17 points and an early place in the top five acquisitions ahead of Manchester City’s double Gameweek 37.

De Bruyne has featured in all but two league matches under Pep Guardiola – quite an achievement considering the Spaniard’s liking for tinkering – and has now edged ahead of Spurs’ Christian Eriksen, for FPL assists by 18 to 17.

Throw in five goals and 172 total points which has him sixth among midfielders, and it comes as a surprise that he’s owned by just 7.1% of managers – the injured Sadio Mane is the only other midfielder in the top ten without double-figure ownership.

De Bruyne’s 10.4 price tag and his relatively modest goal output – his strike against Palace was his first since Gameweek 23 – have counted against him, but he now looks due a late surge in popularity as an explosive differential with his home double against Leicester City and West Brom to come.

Vincent Kompany
Another Fantasy favourite of yesteryear is reminding us of his good old days.

Kompany made his fourth successive league start against Palace and marked it with a third clean sheet and a second goal.

The centre-half has racked up 34 points in that spell and suddenly looks as guaranteed a starter as anyone can be under Guardiola.

Much like his compatriot De Bruyne, the Belgian has a hefty price (5.9). That, and a miserable, injury-hit season has rightly kept his ownership to a bare minimum.

But Kompany has always had the pedigree and now has his fitness and form back to boot. He presents a differential, albeit a costly one and so far ahead of Gameweek 37, he is the most popular defensive acquisition.

Adam Smith
A frugal 14,000+ managers paid 4.5 for the Bournemouth defender as a cheaper alternative to Charlie Daniels (5.2) and it proved a canny investment.

Smith notched his fifth assist of the campaign in the 2-2 draw with Stoke City and was unlucky not to score when he hit the post in the first-half.

Three bonus points gave him a seven-point haul to take him to 21 points from his last three starts.

Bournemouth offer just two remaining fixtures but they’re at home to Burnley next, with Smith’s 6.6% ownership surely set to hold and start the full-back, ignoring the lure of double Gameweek assets.

Jamie Vardy, Marc Albrighton
Leicester City are handed a testing double Gameweek – away at Man City, before hosting Spurs, which would normally be enough to deter investment.

But there’s fixtures, and then there’s form, and Vardy has the latter in abundance.

Two assists in the 3-0 win over Watford mean that he’s delivered points in all but one match since Gameweek 26.

More than 40,000 moved for the striker before yesterday’s deadline and he’s already back in the top 15 for transfers-in despite the less than delightful double to come.

Albrighton, meanwhile, has already proved to be a very efficient budget “enabler” in the Gameweek 36 Wildcard.

His goal against the Hornets was his second in five matches as he continues to provide potential for a modest 4.9 price tag.

Robert Huth, Kasper Schmeichel
Just as two attacking Foxes catch the eye, another defensive pair make their late-season play for attention.

Four clean sheets in seven for Leicester has promoted Huth’s stock ahead of that testing double, with the German’s undoubted attacking threat offering an extra dimension.

Another attempt on target against Watford took his tally to 23 efforts in the box – no FPL defender has recorded more.

Meanwhile, Schemeichel has largely been ignored in the clamour for double Gameweek keepers – only 4,000 brought him this week – but he made seven saves today to claim maximum bonus points and his first double-digit haul of the season.

The Dane now has 10 save points from his last 10 Gameweeks and looks good for more of the same in the run-in, as well as the opportunity of a clean sheet from a home match with Bournemouth on the final day – the Foxes have had three shut-outs from their last four at the King Power.

Jordan Pickford
The Sunderland stopper was outstanding as he kept a first clean sheet since Gameweek 29, making five saves for a second successive match and returning two bonus points the surprise 2-0 win at Hull City.

Pickford is second only to Burnley’s Tom Heaton for saves over the season (120 v 136) despite playing seven matches fewer.

His ownership has climbed steadily, and those who looked to him for his two Gameweek 37 fixtures as part of their Bench Boost squad will be decidedly encouraged by today’s display.

Pickford is currently second to Petr Cech and Willy Cabellero for new acquisitions, as the relegated-but-relaxed Sunderland threaten to actually enjoy their exit from the Premier League.

Craig Dawson
The Baggies right-back headed a fourth goal from his last ten Gameweeks in the 2-2 draw at Burnley, confirming his new status as their major goal threat at set-pieces.

Dawson has overshadowed team-mate Gareth McAuley since finding the net for the first of those goals in Gameweek 24, mustering eight attempts to the Irishman’s modest total of three.

Clearly, Tony Pulis appears to have earmarked Dawson as his new key man at set-plays, suggesting that those considering a risky investment in a West Brom defender ahead of their double Gameweek should re-align their sights.

In Decline

Tom Heaton
With Wildcards in play, the 19.5%-owned Burnley man has suffered a bout of unpopularity – he was sold by 21,000 ahead of Gameweek 36 and is likely to suffer more after an unusually porous defensive performance at Turf Moor.

Having conceded only 14 goals from 16 home fixtures prior to today, shipping two goals in one match was bad enough. Being so generous to a West Brom side that hadn’t scored for five matches rather put the tin lid on it.

Fantasy managers agreed – Heaton is now suffering further sales ahead of fixtures with Bournemouth and West Ham as the double Gameweek keepers push him to the sidelines.

Gylfi Sigurdsson
The Icelander suffered a minor loss of ownership ahead of Swansea City’s vital 1-0 win today, despite their talisman having returned an assist and that sublime free-kick at Old Trafford.

Sigurdsson’s remaining owners were seeking another productive day against Everton, but that failed to materialise.

In an edgy encounter, he put in a subdued performance which saw Sigurdsson muster just one shot on goal. Another ownership loss is now expected, although with Sunderland and West Brom left to play, there is merit in holding the 10.9% owned midfielder as a differential.

Romelu Lukaku
The Belgian suffered heavy sales of 153,000+ ahead of Gameweek 36 as strikers with a double dose of fixtures stole his thunder.

Another blank away day at Swansea won’t have improved the mood of the 40.7% of managers who kept the faith for one more week.

Lukaku has now produced just a single goal in his last nine trips and he’s already the most sold asset ahead of next Friday’s deadline, with more than 14,000 already jumping ship.

A -4 and I should be ready for the double. Just gotta decide between these 2 options, a little help would be appreciated.

    Cech/Hennessey
    Alonso, Stephens, Yoshi, Robertson, PvA
    Hazard, Sanchez, Alli, Davies, Pedro
    Kane, Jesus, Gabi

    A) Davies > Sane
    Hennessey > Cabellero

    B) Alli > KDB
    PvA > Kompany

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

Wildcard fall out - early days but what move/moves are wildcarders pencilling in for GWK 37?

Anyone considering a hit to ditch a Chelsea asset ahead of potential rotation or a Spurs player, who has nothing to play for.

What about Leicester players or stocking up on City mids?

What has been your biggest wildcard regret so far?

Me too I think barring injury. I do regret not having Vardy instead of Kane - but just thought golden boot and the title would steer him through the away games. May still make that move.

Spurs demise could mean returns for Vardy and co in the DGWK....plus I expect the Foxes to put up a better fight against City than Palace did and Big Sam's bizarrely experimental defence.

Biggest regret has been Triple Spurs on wildcard.
But they served me so well over the past 15 weeks or so that I just couldn't let anyone of them leave my team.
Still hoping they put on a show for The Finale at the Lane.

Failed to recognize Spurs' difficult fixtures. The WH one was probably their easiest one left. United barely concede, Leicester are showing the form that made them champions and Hull will have all to play for.

Getting Kos over Kompany. The former may have more games left but Kompany has the better fixtures and points on the board.

I'm looking at Alli, Kane > KDB, Lukaku for a hit.

There were/are still plenty of reasons to think they would be strong option though. They were in great form before Friday. Man U may be tired from Europa/last game at the lane. I honestly blame the players for letting us down. It wasn't our fault for selecting them.

I won't blame the players because law of averages say you can't keep beating teams in the fashion they've done. Wouldn't call it a bottle job either, they lost the league because of their poor away form earlier in the season, not because they lost at WH.

If Chelsea win tomorrow then I think that'll be the end of Spurs assets for the season. So close two seasons in a row, yet so far. Can't see them mentally being up regardless of what Poch has said about not repeating what happened last season or the fact that it is the final game at WHL. Jose will be so up for that game as well.

Wish I'd followed through on the fixtures thing for Spurs - 3 away fixtures and a tough game against United but c'est la vie - still expected them to at least score against West Ham.

Only have double Spurs attack so that's something. No idea what to do next week yet, will wait and see the rest of the matches this week.

I have the money to do Tadic to Sane and that's tempting after yesterday's result.

I dearly want to bank a transfer to allow 2/3 transfers in 38 to try and make use of AoA. However if Alexis bombs and Costa soars I'll be downgrading Alexis and upgrading Barnes to Costa for -4 this week.

Regrets? Still to see whether going without Sanchez will be a disaster. Punted on Walcott so I didn't have to sell Costa or Kane. Having Blind and Gabriel could be mistakes too.

Depending on results planning on Benteke & Costa/Kane to Jesus & Vardy for free.

Hindsights a wonderful thing. The way things stand im a little frustrated I opted for a 'template' team that included a double up with Alli & Eriksen in midfield. I really liked the look of Vardy & Mahrez etc this week but avoided them both. Instead I kept Alli through fear of not having enough Spurs when my alt draft had Albrighton & Vardy (in place of enabler Anichbe).

That said, Spurs really were set up to pile on the pressure with a win against the Hammers and every indicator seemed to suggest that would happen. I am pleased that I opted for Costa over Kane though and avoided a triple up, that enabled a slightly stronger defence.

Still a long way to go and Spurs assets could well deliver in the coming weeks. Depending on how Chelsea get on against Borough, I may consider ditching one for a Leicester/City asset due to rotations risk. Way things stand I'll be rolling my transfer.

Too early for regrets in my book. I was set on Pickford all the way in the run-up to 37, then Caballero's return changed those plans. But I'd have never played him this week anyway.

Really strongly considered Kompany because of his goal threat, but stuff happens!!

Come on Sanchez!! If he looks poor, I MAY draft KDB in for him.

It will either be David Silva in for Eriksen or simply save the transfer. There's loads of interesting players for GW38 that doesn't have the fixtures in GW37 to fit in. Swansea and Liverpool players are particularly interesting.

Originally I had planned to keep enough money ITB to do Kane > Agüero if Spurs lost a point. With Mustafi returning I decided to use the cash on Gabriel > Koscielny instead. Not being able to invest in the City heavy hitters is my only potential regret.

I also regret putting Trippier in my eleven ahead of Mawson and Stephens, but I still think he will be value for GW37.

No regrets yet! First red serious red arrow in weeks thanks to kompany and a cheeky pickford BB. I played my bench boost this week as I didn't fancy the armband on alexis too much.
I had doubled up on alexis & özil, was thinking of doing ozil to all I for 37. But ill probably.keep that transfer to address Gabriel if he does not look nailed.
*I'm looking forward to playing my TC in 37* Pickford against (SWA & ars) was another reason I went leftfield on the chips.

He's saying that a template team by definition wouldn't include differentials

Templates and differentials are mutually exclusive.
Templates are group-think, but differentials are individual decisions to vary from the template.
Good luck to those whose differentials beat the template, but they do not come without an element of risk.

What a stupid post from FPLvirgin.

Differentials are established once the template is formed. The scoutcast set the template for others to then decide on their own approach.

Obviously way too early to assess but losing a great diff pick in Fuchs for Vert was a bit silly of me getting needlessly caught in the TEMPLATE.

Of course I went Tadic over Gabbi so er...lets wait and see.

Ditched Vardy for Jesus, kept Albrighton on the bench, Kane(C), Trippier 11 mins, Sanchez yet to be seen, but this pretty much sums it up 🙂

If Chelsea win today, I am going Hazard to KDB - KDB will surely play the remaining whereas Hazard might have his last game on friday, plus Chelsea can rest as many as they like if they win the next two without interfering with the table in regards to relegation and CL spots

      I regret gabbiadinni & betrand!
I WC in GW35 since i still have TC left which im using this week.
Wish id just got yosh or stephens & an arsenal defender.
Also would get a city midfielder as jesus only city attacker.
      Also kane>vardy

Played my wildcard in GW34, but it was very similar to the one I had been planning for GW35 or 36 before I hurriedly brought it forward because Zlatan's injury left me without a good captain for GW34.

The main thing I regret about it was replacing King with Son. If I had not done this, I could have used the money saved to bring in de Gea instead of Hennessey. These differences have already cost me 23 points in GW34-35, plus a 4 point hit to correct them in GW36, as well as leaving me with less money in the bank and no free transfer for GW36.

As far as the current game-week goes though, I would have liked to have had Jesus instead of Gabbiadini, but it's really too soon to tell.

trusting my son to finalize my team as I couldn't get online Friday afternoon.
Told him to captain Sanchez, play Huth & Gabbiadini.
So he captained Kane, started Redmond & Stephens.
I've had the last laugh on Stephens but we won't be on speaking terms until Thursday in case Sanchez does something.
BTW I was 56pts ahead in our mini-league so don't believe him when he laughed and said it was an accident. If he overtakes me then all bets are null and void.

No regrets here. I was worried the good players I sold could burn me but I've got away with it with Heaton, Maguire, Siggy, Lukaku, Coutinho & Firmino all failing. Only Mawson returned but I'd have benched him.

Willy, Stephens, Yoshida, Jesus have all scored points for me and Sanchez is so far so good with the better fixture to come. Pickford looks fine for BB next week too. Little worried about Spurs but nothing I can do about it now really with one FT.

High hopes for Hazard and Alonso Monday night!

I didn't get Sanchez, Kane, Alli or Ozil, so pleased they've all blanked (so far!).

I've considered switching out Vertonghen to Kompany, but might save my FT so I have two for GW38. I'll see how the rest of this GW plays out before I make any rash decisions. If it ain't broke...

I've got Blind but obviously Jose's focus on Europe and subsequent rotation policy means he's not a great option.

Thinking of downgrading to Stephens (I've already got Yoshida) and using the cash to push Daniels up to either Azpilicueta or Koscielny (I already have Monreal), so I can use BB in GW37.

Any thoughts on who is the better option?

I have 3 Chelsea (Alonso, Haz, Costa) and 3 Spurs (Alli, Eriksen, Kane) and I have no BB nor AOA left so, what seemed to be a great team for dgw 37 suddently looks vulnerable due to rotation and motivation risk...

Now I wish I had KDB, Jesus, Lukaku, Vardy... Players I wasn't considering until Friday night Spurs surprising defeat.

    36. Econ Man
        6 years, 12 months ago

Originally I wanted two Chelsea defenders, but in the end I decided against it precisely because I thought Chelsea might have wrapped up the league, causing rotation. We will see if it was the right call. I have Alonso and Hazard and will be keeping them. I will probably use my two free transfers on getting in Sane and Anichebe (I had Afobe). My bench boost will then include 13 DGW players, plus King and Holgate with great matches. But indeed you have extra freedom in a DGW, and I don't think I would lose out much from taking a hit, since I would get to reshuffle my team quite a bit.

close to the deadline, i downgraded Mawson to Fernandez (for 37/38) so i could upgrade Smith to Daniels (for 36/37):

Smith 7 pts, Daniels 1 pts
Fernandez 9pts (third on the bench)

Only thinking of upgrading Robertson to Yoshida with my FT at the moment...

      Jesus, Vardy

      Pope, Ake, Mason, Anichebe

Does it really matter if Sanchez blanks as long as Ozil does too

The only managers that should be really worried about him blanking are the ones that treble captained him

The fact that nearly everyone captained either Sanchez or Ozil nullifys any great advantage from the armband this week unless there is a huge haul then the TCs will do ok but that is unlikely

It is the rest of your squad that will make or brake you

If Sanchez scores 20 points, top10k average will go up by 25 points and captainers will gain 40 of course. That's far from nothing. Just from OR perspective, might be different in ML's and top 50 OR's hehe.

BB this week, 2FTs and 0.3ITB so should really use atleast 1Ft.

      Willy Pickford
      Yoshida Gabriel Alonso Vert Huth
      Sanchez Hazard(C) King Sane Albrighton
      Kane Costa(vc) Anichebe

Time to lose Vert, Kane or Sane maybe?

For better DGW players, Vert Sane to Fuchs Ozil may be tempting

How many goals are you expecting in the Arsenal v Man Utd game?

I expect a very low scoring game....... Can't see Mourhino and Man Utd having any ambition to try to win the game.

I think that it depends if we can see an early goal. If that happen than 3-4 goal is possible.

It's all about Alexis today like it was all about Jesus yesterday.I fear the same outcome is likely.

We actually have Koscielny, Mustafi, Gabriel, Holding, Mertesacker, Monreal, Gibbs, Bellerin, Jenkinson and Debuchy available right now. How often does that happen?! That's why I went with Cech 😆

      Alonso Monreal Yoshida Bailly Holgate*
      Sanchez Alli Hazard Zaha* Carroll*
      Kane Jesus Gabbi

      1m itb

Is it worth taking a hit to get upgrade Jaku/Zaha/Carroll to a dgw (still got BB) and if so who? Or take a hit for Bailly -> Kosc/Kompany?
