The Stock Check – Gameweek 37 – Wednesday

Southampton and Manchester United grind out a goalless draw at St Mary’s as Manolo Gabbiadini’s Fantasy misfortunes go from bad to worse in the penultimate match of double Gameweek 37.

On the Rise

Maya Yoshida, Jack Stephens
The only defender to survive Claude Puel’s double Gameweek tinkering, Yoshida retained his role to start for the nineteenth successive league outing in last night’s clash with Man United.

A total of nine points accrued across the pair of matches against Middlesbrough and United was more than any member of the Saints’ backline as the St Mary’s outfit collected a fifth clean sheet in 10 attempts.

Owned by a mere 5% of FPL managers, Yoshida has now delivered 33 points in his previous six home appearances. He looks a secure final-day pick at home to a Stoke City side that has failed to score in six of their previous seven on the road.

Stephens was rested for the first match of the double only to return to the Southampton XI last night and earn two bonus points.

The youngster’s ability to collect bonus is key here. He has earned 10 additional points over those five clean sheets, compared with Yoshida’s five bonus across the same fixtures – potentially a decisive factor for those currently holding both and mulling over which to bench for the Stoke match. Southampton now have three shut-outs in four with Stephens and Yoshida in the heart of defence.

Over 62,000 FPL managers owned both Yoshida and Stephens, benefiting from 17 points over the Gameweek 37 fixtures.

In Decline

Manolo Gabbiadini
Rested for the weekend win at Middlesbrough, the Italian returned to Puel’s starting XI against the Red Devils.

But as far as his loyal 8% owners are concerned, Gabbiadini may as well have warmed the bench for all the good he did.

Failing quite spectacularly as a double Gameweek asset, the winter signing stepped up to miss a penalty and deliver zero points over the Saints’ pair of fixtures before being hauled off just after the hour-mark to put his chastened ownership out of their misery.

Gabbiadini, essentially, provided a meagre four points across back-to-back doubles and now has just a single assist in his last seven league outings – a far cry from the form that harvested four goals in his first three Gameweek appearances.

Over 18,000 FPL managers have already sold him out ahead of the home encounter with Stoke – yes, he may well start, but judging by last night’s output that clearly guarantees little going on the striker’s current form.

David de Gea
United’s most popular FPL player and the third most-owned (33%) in the game, the Spaniard missed out altogether as his side chalked up a sixteenth clean sheet of the campaign – level with Chelsea and second only to Spurs’ 17.

Those still holding De Gea will now need to rely on their second keepers or dip into the market after Jose Mourinho confirmed that the Spaniard will play no further part in the season.

“David? I think the first match against LA Galaxy in pre-season in Los Angeles. I hope to play Joel Pereira against Crystal Palace, I hope to play Sergio in the final and hopefully, we don’t have problems with these two keepers”.

With Eric Bailly limping off last night and Mourinho revealing his intentions to field a number of youngsters in Sunday’s clash with Palace ahead of Wednesday’s Europa League final against Ajax, there’s no surprise to see owners of the likes of Antonio Valencia (14,000+) and Marcus Rashford (18,000+) already selling and seeking alternatives.

Last night I broke into top 10k for the first time ever, so I'm hoping to stay there for the final week. I'm going to drop Hazard as I don't think he'll play at all (or much). Thanks for your help - would you get :-

    a> Coutinho
    b> Alli
    c> Erikssen

    At present squad is :-
    Cech, Pickford
    Alonso, Koscielny, Stones, Yoshida, Stephens
    Sanchez, Hazard, Sane, King, Capoue
    Kane, Jesus, Costa

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

    Gameweek 38 Wildcard

As was well documented last week Spencer spectacularly messed up his wildcard by taking a 40 pt hit and forgetting to press the button. This means he still has a wildcard to play for Gameweek 38. As discussed on the Scoutcast this prompted us to ponder what our Gameweek 38 wildcard teams would be.

With that in mind – if you had a wildcard what would your GWK 38 XI look like (obviously it doesn’t need to be exact to your budget just a rough idea).

Mine would focus heavily on attackers from home sides, particularly those with something to play for such as a top four place. Also a good sprinkling of differentials.

Heaton – Burnley stopper equals points at home

Cheap defence – Yoshida and Stephens versus Stoke. Mawson for Swansea against WBA.

Midfield – Coutinho against woeful Boro, Sigurdsson to turn on the style again, Fabregas due to home form and Josh King as a lone away man in midfield – he plays, he scores. Simple. Then there’s Alexis Sanchez – and his golden boot chase.

Attack – Vardy – another reliable option and drumroll …..Mr Potato head himself – Wayne Rooney in what will likely be his final Old Trafford game as a Man Utd player

      I reckon that’s affordable too.

Cut Fabregas and go 3 up top - Vardy - Sturridge - Jesus 🙂

City away of course but they have something to play for at least. Watford nothing to play for, injuries, manager announced as leaving.

Rooney was so dire yesterday it was embarassing.

Funny how Mark is thinking of captaining Kane and he's not in your XI.

Some good shouts and it could be a good side, but I think you can make a better side without so many punts.

I would never choose Rooney. Double Sunderland defence seems too much. I also have little faith in Swans defence.

What about Kane? Jesus? Eriksen's form is strong. And what about Alonso and Monreal? Attacking points and CS potential.

I think you're making some of the same mistakes with this that we often make around double gameweeks, when we ignore form a bit too much

Anyone think it's actually pretty likely that Hazard will start on Sunday?

I'd say it's unlikely but how many minutes does he get and how much does he need against tired legs sunderland ?

Hi Guys. Have 2FT but 0m ITB. 35 points leader so would need a cheeky gamble somewhere or two. Which do you prefer?

    Cech
    Vert | Luiz | Monreal
    Sanchez | Alli | King | Haz | Sane
    Jesus | Kane

    Cab | Yosh | Stephens | Anichebe

    A) Haz > Cout
    B) Anichebe + Haz > Sturridge + 5.2m Mid (will be benched)
    C) Anything else

Can you work out what your rival will do. You will need a differential captain. I like Sturridge for a couple of goals in his last Anfield appearance.

Not sure how i can check what he is doing apart from seeing if he has made a transfer. He only has 1FT and wont want to sacrifice points so i like sturridge and if so i think i should (C) him. Saying that Costa is good shout too

Has he made a FT yet? if not take note of his team value, players and in the bank value. Then when he makes a transfer you should be able to work out what it is.

For example, my mini league rival had 0.5 ITB before making his FT when I checked earlier this week. He now has 0.8 ITB and has made 1FT. Therefore, i know he has sold a player and bought in a player costing 0.3 less. Gabbiadini cost my friend 6.5 to but and Llorente is currently 6.2. Whilst there are other possible transfer he could have made I know this is likley to be it given his tendency to 'rage transfer'. Try and think which player(s) you woudl want to get rid of if you had your rival's team.

Is there any way to check how much someone had in the bank yday? Or at least when the GW started? Was gonna follow this but he made a transfer last night.

Any way, pretty sure he had no money ITB, now 1.9M: he must've done Hazard to Coutinho all the way..

17 on BB and 9 on TC.

Learning has to be approach the DGW as a BB without actually using it. Triple Captain is better value for heavy hitters and unfortunate that Aguero didn't work out in GW 27 as he had the same fixtures as Sanchez did this week and given that there was lesser time for the casuals to prep for it.

Is Gabbiadini is the new Negredo? except no one captained him, I hope !

Must be the biggest two failures and waste of a precious front 3 slot ever in a DGW ... oh hang on ... Anichebe 😉

He was a second choice striker at Napoli, when he came to Soton, so those who know something about football and watched Serie A knew, he is not a good investment. He got a good start in new league, but he has not real quality to become top scorer and Austin will replace him next season for sure.

I imagine it would get put into GW38 and we won't get a chance to change our teams.

I wouldn't worry to much, it's super unlikely

They won't even do that, but it would be a fun little cliffhanger, like when the Man Utd Bournemouth match was a few days later.

It shouldn't have any bearing as its a 39 game and shouldn't count towards points

Anything you would change here for a hit for GW38?

    Pickford (Jaku)
    Luiz, Holding, Yoshida (Stephens, Holgate)
    Sanchez, Coutinho, Eriksen, KDB, King
    Kane, Jesus (Gabbi)

    £2.1m ITB.
