Crabtree Clinches FPL Crown

In yet another tense final day, Ben Crabtree has been crowned the Fantasy Premier League champion for 2016/17.

Nestled in the top ten since Gameweek 28, Ben – who made just a single four-point hit in the final 11 Gameweeks –
claimed top spot for the first time in the very final round of fixtures.

Trailing Uwais Ahmed by two points heading into today’s deadline, Ben went ahead before kick-off following Uwais’ four-point transfer hit.

That saw Liverpool pair Adam Lallana and Philippe Coutinho swapped in for Spurs’ Dele Alli and Leroy Sane of Manchester City – trades that would eventually prove decisive in the battle at the top.

Ben – with two free transfers – made equally radical transfer moves, shifting out Eden Hazard and Victor Anichebe for Bournemouth’s Junior Stanislas and Chelsea’s Diego Costa.

Starting on Ben’s bench, the Cherries midfielder was the makeweight for the gutsy signing of Costa, although, on the day, it was Stanislas who was to prove the unlikely hero.

He scored the opening goal of the day and, with Josh King in Ben’s starting XI but missing out through injury, those points from the bench helped him extend an early lead.

The Stanislas strike, together with assists from Christian Eriksen and Leroy Sane, saw Ben seize a 12-point advantage heading into half-time.

While Uwais quickly countered with early second-half goals from his signings Lallana and Coutinho, Ben edged further ahead with an assist from his own Gameweek 38 capture, Costa.

The tide looked to be turning back in Uwais’ favour when Cesc Fabregas produced one of two assists in the second period. However, Ben Davies’ strike for Spurs on 84 minutes in their 7-1 rout of Hull City was to deal the killer blow.

While Uwais edged the bonus points on the final whistle, the two awarded to Stanislas on Ben’s bench, introduced as the auto-sub for King, were to take him to a final tally of 97. That surpassed Uwais final tally by three points on the day, and by a five-point margin in the overall ranks.

A proven FPL manager of some pedigree, Ben bettered his previous best rank of 353rd back in the 2011/12 season to become the FPL’s latest champion.

Huge congratulations go to Ben from all at Fantasy Football Scout, and also to Uwais who fought a valiant battle to give us a dramatic final day.

Elsewhere, Bibek Thapa from Nepal stormed to a 99 – 68 victory over Polish manager Peter B to claim the FPL cup.

Many congratulations go to Bibek.

We will have further post-season coverage coming up in the next 24-hours, as we round up the winners of this season’s Scout Leagues and Cups.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

No value in having a third striker worth between 7 and 8.5m I've decided, worth going 3-5-2 with an enabler, or going 3-4-3 with three premium strikers

I might give 3:5:2 a go, and have a good defence. The third striker can be a good first sub.

Next season may have plenty of value for strikers in that range. It's not a one size fits all for each season.

I wonder what Jesus will be priced with next season.

I think Kane will be the 13m striker next season. Sanchez the 11m mid.

Kane missed 9 games this season as well. Some player like let's hope he can do it in the WC next summer.

Jesus, dependa little on Kun i think, if he stays or not. 9.5-10, maybe?
sounds resonable price for those two, but Sanchez we don´t know wether he plays at Arsenal next season, but if he is, 11-12 is possible

It was good fun last year. Thought I'd ask the community if you guys are willing to take part again because I'd have to prepare them in advance.

    2) Taking Kos out of the situation, let's call this a draw.
    3) Correct.

So which formations worked best for you this season?

I must say 3-5-2 was the big winner for me this season it was hard to get a good 3rd striker especially once Defoe's output fell off and Charlie Austin got injured lots of tail chasing for that 3rd forward this season

    3-5-2 (16 times - average 69 points)
    3-4-3 (11 times - average 61.4 points)
    4-4-2 (7 times - average 59.3 points)
    5-5-3 (1 times - average 172 points)
    5-3-2 (1 times - average 65 points)
    4-3-3 (1 times - average 64 points)
    2-5-3 (1 times - average 56 points)

      Branislav Ivanovic

Looking back now it seems daft with the aid of hindsight, but previous points haul glories and a new price of 6.0 meant he was in my GW1 team as Chelsea couldn't possibly carry on being pants forever, could they?!

He didn't do much for the first 6 games of the season and was then dropped in GW7 when they switched to wingbacks, a system I thought would have suited him down to the ground... but in came the forgotten man Moses! The rest, as they say, is history and he got sold to Zenit soon after.

      Thanks for the memories, though!

what i genuinely saw change on this site this season compared to the others has been the at times reckless abandonment when it comes to taking hits, and encouraging people to do it just becasue they dont own a player that could score big that week -4s, -8, -12 many times condoned by a lot of players on here. granted, they can pay of in DGWks but at the end of the day it was a hit that cost Fahad's XI the crown.

On another day though, King plays so Crabtree doesn't get Stanislas' points off his bench, or Coutinho scores a couple and assists a couple of Lallana goals, and he wins by quite a few and looks like a boss.... Fine margins in this game, you have to call it as you see it.

I've had my best ever season despite taking more hits than ever before... Being hit happy is a viable tactic providing you drown yourself in points as a result, it's risk vs. reward, a key mechanic of this game.

Yeah, think I'd agree with that.
There was a lot of mass point chasing this season and backed up by so many posters on here.
I have to say, it's only a handful of posters I'd actually listen to in regards to my team decisions but that's not to say that people shouldn't get involved with their opinions as this is what the site is about.
It's up to yourself to make final decision.

Cheers mate. Yeah it's been a horrendous season. I can't tell you how much I loathe and despise Moyes for what he's done to the club. We'll be back though, however I'm not optimistic that we'll bounce straight back up.

Agree to that farce yesterday for Terry sums him up. Made us look so small time. He's a football dinosaur and we'll continue to regress whilst he's still in charge. To think how strong we finished last season and where we might have been if the FA didn't come in for Allardcyce 🙁

That's impressive that many hits and top 10k finish. I wouldn't advocate making a habit of it, but shows can be hit crazy and still have a good season.

assuming the hits got you there and didnt stop you from finishing higher.... 1 OR took a hit going into GW38 and look how costly that turned out

i think the whole attitude to hits has changed drastically on here over these last 9 months

Some of the hits might of, but a lot of the them at start of season were what through me down the rankings and made it a long hard slog back end of season to finish with a fairly respectable ranks.

Got to be Wanyama for me, followed closely by Kante.

Finished with 99....won my cash mini league and am still the only member of the Scoutcast team never to finish outside of the top 100K. Phoenix like finish of 82K from 1.8m back in the cold months of winter.

In the end my two transfers didn't make much difference, with Coutinho in for Hazard. Sigurdsson for King didn't work out - but was nice to see Gylfi in my team one last time this season.

Pedro's haul from the bench was lovely. 🙂

Hadn't made my move before the news but was going to begrudgingly do alli > fabregas. After the king post did haz & king > fabregas & coutinho -4. Appreciate Haz scored, but was still in a better position for doing it.

94 GW38 and up to 109k OR from 1.6m at Xmas!

Smooth; Kane(c), Sanchez, held Hazard, Caballero, Coutinho, Jesus and at long last the Toby A goal! Been waiting since last year! 🙂

Rough; Alli>Coutinho actually cost me a point. Lost my ML by 4 in the end but this after being 150 behind. Gave it a good go. Still got 2nd and highest GW score prizes though....

My target was to better last years 280k so I'm happy but the days of me being ranked 4k, 12k, 18k etc seem a dim and distant memory!

Thanks to Joshua King making the announcement he wasn't playing I transferred him and Cahill out for Coutinho and Holding. Although Holding didn't pay off and Cahill would have got 6 points, I was going to transfer out Alli for Coutinho.

Rough: Not much really, a line of 2's across my backline but clean sheets were hard to come by.
Smooth: Attacking returns of 9, 9, 9, 9, 8, 11, 34 propelled me to a second consecutive three digit score, and victory in all my main mini leagues. Did Rashford -> Vokes and King -> Lallana which worked out well. Decent green arrow from 15k to 11k, narrowly missing out on my first Top 10k finish.

            Smooth:

            Finished on 104 points.

Resisted the temptation to drop Hazard, and popped the armband on Mr. Kane.

Vardy in for Lukaku, and 0 hits thanks to the article from Giggs Boson.

Pushed me on to cement every cash mini-league. Buzzing.

Smooth - Kane (C), 90 points and finished OR 3900 ish which is. It only my highest rank this year but a new PB in my 3 years of playing.

Rough - I was 3 points behind the leader in my dads works H2H league. The leaders opponent this week (who works with him) decided to take a 12 point hit to remove 4 fit players for 4 players who were red flagged and then (C) Rojo and (VC) McAuley. Very poor gamesmanship as potentially another 3 players could have still won it as we had better points difference. Left a very sour taste in my mouth as it's been a grea

            Finished at 23k
            rough
took a hit to bring in Lallana and Sanchez for Hazard and Alli. Cost me 6 points but can't complain much

Final week did Gabriel out for Clyne which worked out, Hazard out for Coutinho which didn't and Benteke out for Llorente which did. 102 points (-8) ranked 56k for the week. Ended up finishing 107k up from 400k in gw33 so a bit disappointing to finish outside top 100k but 5 greens in the last 5 weeks say I should be happy.

            Smooth
111 points after Kane triple captain
Finished on 2314, my highest final points total
Final overall rank of 8444, again my highest overall (and 176 in GW37 was my highest GW score ever)
Rose from 37k four weeks ago (and 114k in GW23) to clinch my target of a first ever top 10k finish
-4 for Hazard and Davies to Coutinho and Fabregas paid off nicely, good returns from all 4 midfielders
Won 4 MLs with a gap of 100+ over 2nd place (and 201 in one)

            Rough
FF Fix live rank predictor having a problem and showing incorrect points, so a bit of a nailbiting finish to see if I'd made 10k
Losing three clean sheets in about two minutes from Arsenal, Southampton and Spurs
Had considered doing Gabbi to Batshuayi, ended up just benching him instead.

Kompany has been an amazing differential the last few weeks.

All my mids scored Pedro hazard sanchez erikson

            Kane (c) and Jesus

Overall Rough: Deja vu from last week in not taking a hit for Kane and instead dealing with King (for Zaha, rubbish) - no Kane in 37/38 ruined the chance of a 3 figure rank, ended up at 2424. Form and fixture is king (not Josh) - was a gamble and paid the price.

Overall Smooth: After being at 2M after playing first WC and around 400k odd approaching Xmas I am pleased to have got back in the top 6.5k for the fourth season running, along with ML win. We go again in August...

GW 38 Out KDB and Anichebe
            In Coutinho & Llorente
Captained Kane with all out attack chip played.
            Rough:
AOA failed due to King's absence as Yoshida came in delivering a backline three with 2 points each
            Picked Cech over Caballero.

Smooth: Kane (C) and loads of 8-10 pointers in midfield and attack.

Rough: Played Koscielny ahead of Tripper. Koscielny has single handedly cost me ~30 points, enough to keep me out of top 100k. I didn't dare taking a hit to bring in Llorente for Gabbi despite the King tweets.

Mainly smooth with 107 points and a rise to 22 OR. Won the Saints league as well.

The only rough: was thinking of doing King to Pedro or Ayew for a hit over playing Yoshida. That would have moved me to 1st in the Sweden national league instead of 2nd.

I just wanted to thank the FFS community for all the insightful comments throughout the season. I do not post too often, but I tend to follow the discussions to gain insights into what transfers to make.

Rough: Started the gameweek 2 points outside top 10,00, ended 5 points outside first red arrow for weeks. Captaining Sanchez instead of Kane and leaving Bailly as 2nd sub meant Yoshida came in for Josh King. Also got Coutinho in for Hazard gained me just 1 point.
Smooth: 84 points largely thanks to Sanchez, Kane and Jesus.

Still won both cash mini leagues I'm in comfortably so more than happy but would have been great to make the top 10K for the first time. Still 11,221 my best ever finish.

Smooth all over the line, broke the century points milestone for the first time in a SGW, with 103 points, every attacker constributed. Could have been better in defense, but two CS is acceptable, so the only little rough is i did some fun moves before deadline which wasn´t bad bud it did cost med a place inside 20k, but after beeing 300k in GW23 i must say that i´m very pleased ending up top 25k in my first full season in FPL. Thanks to this site for wonderful insights and discussions. Gained 228 point on my rival last 15 gws, in my wildest dreams i could not foresee that coming, wow.

Smooth - After being ranked 951.6k in Gameweek 18, I managed to steadily climb to rank 9.4k at the end of the season, my best result ever and the 5th time in 8 seasons that I have been ranked in the Top 100k.

I scored 197 points in gameweek 37 with my bench boost (Gameweek rank 2.1k)

And scored 120 points in Gameweek 38 (Gameweek rank 2.3k) after triple captaining Kane.

Thank for all your posts on the site in helping to reach the Top 10k! Couldn't have done it without you!

I was 14 points behind my ML leader and tied with the same person who I was up against in our H2H-league.

King news meant that I took a gamble. Brought in Vokes & Fabregas for a hit and that last minute assist from Fabregas meant that I won my ML by 1 point and my H2H league too. Couldn't wish for a happier ending!

King to Stanislas (One minute in and could relax for the rest of the game)

Pedro haul despite only 20 minutes played. (Almost transferred out for Fabregas but then would have had to take a hit for King to Stan the man)

It's all smooth for me - almost never happens to be fair.

            99 points;
            Hazard to Coutinho paid off, albeit by one point;
I hummed and hawed over who to ship Gabbiadini for: Llorente or Vokes? Vokes or Llorente? I went for the Swansea man, and although it looked the wrong choice at half time, the final bonus tallies put me 4 points up on the Burnley man. Hooray for 50/50 decisions that go right!

The rest of my team was a joy to watch: Captain Kane, Jesus and Llorente all smashing it up front, and Sanchez, Coutinho and Eriksen in midfield. Even Caballero joined in the party with a clean sheet, the only one in my back 7. AOA chip completely failed at the expense of King's ankles, but I really can't fault him given his contribution to my season.

Overtook my ML rival on the last week - he had been 120 points ahead at Christmas, and still a good 70 by GW33. Never give up!

Lovely way to end the season, all in all.

Rise in rank since GW36 WC 6.8k>....

dodged a bullet on King, planned on bringing him in all week.

decided 1/2 hour before King news broke to do Hazard to Pedro and JWP to Coutinho with 2ft to block rivals instead.
2nd in ml did Haz to Couts as I guessed.
            finished 14pts ahead of him.

slight rough, captained Sanchez to block 2nd and 3rd as thought they would. guessed wrong.
            ended 3pts outside top 10k.

Having Kane from my GW35 WC
            Coutinho / Alli/ Jesus/ Sanchez (C) all delivering
            Kompany : -)
A total in the GW of 110 points to get me from 1,3 million back in GW12 to a top 18k before playing my WC in GW35, to 2098 now !!
Exciting season I will definitely remember : -)

Rough: Lukaku + Bailey out for Alonso + Bentekke. Fortunately, no hits were involved, but still a 11 point swing. Meaning, if I hadn't of used my two freebies, I would be on a total of 2432 pts – which would have put me at around 275th OR.

Smooth: Ended up OR 400th – chuffed to bits!

Lost my main mini league by 1pt

Spent the final day of the season in Barcelona and managed to run out of battery on my phone whilst doing directions. Not sure if I was going to get back to the apartment in time I made my transfer before the team news came out... Tadic -> King to cover the guy behind me in ML (I was only 3 points ahead having taken the lead last week after trailing for the whole season).

King didn't play 🙁 Stephens came off my bench ahead of Cedric for 1 point... I lost my mini league by 1 point... keeping Tadic would have meant we tied or if i'd waited for team news I would have bought in Fabregas and won comfortably 🙁

Pretty gutted as I wasn't better prepared on the day, but happy with my comeback and top 25k finish after a poor start to the season just frustrated that I could have avoided King with the team news and won them all. Oh well fair play to the guy who beat me he took out Sanchez for Coutinho and captained him - I captained Sanchez over Kane to block him - so that decision alone won it for him.

Thanks for all the help over the season that's a top 20k finish last year and a 25k finish this year - pretty happy with both and looking forward to trying to get in the top 10k next season!

Hi all, I have just paid out to the winners of my £5 and £20 cash leagues, congratulations to 1st, 2nd and 3rd places who have split the respective pots 50%, 30%, 20%.

Thanks to everyone who entered, they were both very competitive leagues with the winners both finishing in the top 1k.

I will be running the leagues again next year, and will be sending an email out to all those who took part this year - so we can discuss entry fees, prize money allocation, new rules and other things which will hopefully make them even more fun next year. Very competitive league indeed, need some easier ones, can't compete with top 20 in the world. 😉 With 3.5k OR only managed to sneak in top 10. 😉

Thanks for managing the league of course. It's not an easy task.

            Cheers.

Oh yes there will be many spaces open, but I will not be creating the leagues until FPL opens for the 17/18 season.

I'll be making posts when it does, so just look out for them when the time comes =)

Would have been great if there was a competition like the Euros last year to keep us occupied. Fantasy Euros was fun 🙂

Three exciting topics right here... We don't even have an international tournament to keep us going

Rough. King in for JWP as a minileague block move only to find out he was crocked.

Smooth. Everything else, Kane captain, Sanchez, held Alli, Pedro, Kompany, Jesus, Sane.

101 points, best SGW of the season, inside top 2.5k OR.

How to post the link of a comment? Even I adviced many people to captain Kane for the last two weeks.
