The Gameweek 14 Team News

With today’s 6.45 pm Fantasy Premier League deadline drawing ever closer, we’ve collated the latest facts and speculation surrounding the midweek teamsheets, while also presenting our predicted line-ups here.

Here’s our summary of the key team news so far…

Brighton have no new injury concerns for tonight’s home encounter against Crystal Palace, with Steve Sidwell remaining their only absentee. Chris Hughton seems likely to recall Jose Izquierdo on the left flank, though, after Solly March was afforded a start at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Christian Benteke will be pushing for his first start since returning from injury for the Eagles. James McArthur made way for the Belgian at the break against Stoke last weekend and could be the man to miss out, with Andros Townsend moving to the left flank. Scott Dann and Julian Speroni dropped to the bench against the Potters and offer alternatives to James Tomkins and Wayne Hennessey.

Ahead of Leicester City’s home meeting with Spurs, Claude Puel has hinted at rotating in order to cope with the schedule. Ben Chilwell, Islam Slimani and Shinji Okazaki will be hoping to come into contention, with Demarai Gray and Marc Albrighton the most likely to drop to the bench. Long-term absentees Robert Huth and Matty James are the only players unavailable.

Spurs winger Erik Lamela is available for the King Power Stadium encounter after more than a year out through injury, though minutes from the bench look the likeliest scenario. Rotation at wing-back/full-back could be on the cards, with Danny Rose and Serge Aurier potentially coming in for Ben Davies and Kieran Trippier. Either Moussa Sissoko or Mousa Dembele could be set to replace Harry Winks, who is a doubt due to illness. Son Heung-min also looks likely to be ousted from the starting XI as Mauricio Pochettino freshens up his options.

Troy Deeney returns from a three-match suspension in time for Watford’s home encounter with Man United. Yet the success of a recent move to 3-4-2-1 means he may have to settle for bench-warming duties, with the more mobile Andre Gray leading the line again. Roberto Pereyra and Andre Carrillo offer further options in the final third but the form of Will Hughes suggests he will retain his place alongside Richarlison. In defence, Miguel Britos faces a late assessment, with Sebastian Prodl on standby to replace him.

As it stands, Man United defensive pair Phil Jones and Eric Bailly seem set to remain sidelined for the Vicarage Road trip, though the fit-again Marcos Rojo could come in for Victor Lindelof at centre-half. Zlatan Ibrahimovic continued his own comeback with further minutes off the bench against Brighton last weekend, while Henrikh Mkhitaryan also featured as a sub in the Seagulls encounter. They offer alternatives to Juan Mata, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford, though it remains to be seen whether Ibrahimovic is fit enough to start should Jose Mourinho look to manage the minutes of Romelu Lukaku. However, reports state that Marouane Fellaini hasn’t travelled with the squad.

Ahead of a visit from Newcastle, West Brom caretaker boss Gary Megson may continue with the 3-5-2 formation that harvested a 1-1 draw at Spurs last Saturday. The likes of Gareth McAuley, James McClean, Hal Robson-Kanu and Grzegorz Krychowiak will all be pushing for starting roles after being named on the bench at Wembley Stadium, though Chris Brunt remains doubtful due to a calf complaint.

The Magpies, meanwhile, head to The Hawthorns without injured trio Jamaal Lascelles, Christian Atsu and Paul Dummett. Mikel Merino will be pushing for a return after signalling his comeback from injury with minutes off the bench last weekend. Up front, Rafa Benitez may well reassess his recent move to 4-4-2 in light of Saturday’s home hammering by Watford. This could allow Ayoze Perez to return in a central support role, with Aleksandar Mitrovic offering an alternative up front.

Arsenal welcome Huddersfield to the Emirates tomorrow evening, with Mesut Ozil facing a late assessment on the illness that forced him to miss the weekend win at Burnley. With Theo Walcott still sidelined with a similar complaint and Alex Iwobi doubtful due to a leg problem, Danny Welbeck could join Alexis Sanchez in the central support role. Jack Wilshere appeared off the bench at Turf Moor but may have to settle for a sub role again. Per Mertesacker offers an alternative in defence should Arsene Wenger wish to rotate.

Rajiv Van la Parra serves the first of a three-match ban for the Terriers’ trip to north London. This could allow Elias Kachunga to be handed a start, while Steve Mounie offers an alternative to Laurent Depoitre up front. David Wagner’s tendency to play with three central midfielders against tougher opponents is likely to continue, while at full-back, both Chris Lowe and Florent Hadergjonaj could come in for Scott Malone and Tommy Smith if Wagner rotates.

Bournemouth will have defender Simon Francis back available for the home clash against Burnley after serving his one-match ban. He could oust Adam Smith at right-back, with Eddie Howe admitting that he faces a selection headache. The Cherries boss could also rotate elsewhere, with Lewis Cook and Benik Afobe the most likely to get the nod. Harry Arter and Callum Wilson could make way, then. Jermain Defoe faces a late assessment but Junior Stanislas is still unavailable.

For the visitors, Chris Wood will push for a recall after returning from injury as a substitute in the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal. Ashley Barnes is most likely to drop out, while Scott Arfield could also push for inclusion in a wide role.

After only appearing as a late substitute in the 1-1 draw with Liverpool, Cesc Fabregas looks certain to return to the starting XI for the visit of Swansea City to Stamford Bridge. David Luiz will also be vying for a start in central defence if Antonio Conte looks to rotate. Andreas Christensen‘s place in the defence will be of particular significance to Fantasy managers, with the Dane having started the last three Gameweek outings.

The Swans will visit Stamford Bridge without Federico Fernandez, who has been given compassionate leave to return to Argentina following the death of his father, while Tammy Abraham is ineligible to face his parent club. Head coach Paul Clement has little options available in those areas, though will likely rotate in midfield.

Leighton Baines looks set to be ruled out of Everton’s home fixture against West Ham United due to a calf injury picked up in the 4-1 defeat to Southampton, while Michael Keane was forced off with a knock in the same match, and is a doubt. Tom Davies is available again after serving a one-match ban, though Oumar Niasse remains suspended.

The Hammers will still be without the injured Chicharito, Michail Antonio and James Collins for the trip to Goodison Park, but Marko Arnautovic (knee) looks set to be available having trained on Monday.

As always, Pep Guardiola’s teamsheet will be keenly anticipated. Gabriel Jesus will be expected to return to the starting XI for Manchester City’s home encounter against Southampton after sitting out the last two outings. And, after starting the last five matches in all competitions, Raheem Sterling looks to be a rotation risk, with Bernardo Silva a possible starter. Guardiola’s options at the back are more limited, though he may consider resting Vincent Kompany with the weekend fixture with West Ham in mind.

For the Saints, Oriol Romeu is available again following the midfielder’s one-match ban, while Mario Lemina may also push for a start after returning from injury as a substitute last weekend. Charlie Austin will be expected to start up front after his brace, though manager Mauricio Pellegrino may opt for the mobility of Shane Long.

Stoke City boss Mark Hughes revealed Ramadan Sobhi is fit for the home clash against Liverpool, but Geoff Cameron remains sidelined. Hughes could consider a start for Peter Crouch against his former club.

Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino look set to be handed recalls for the trip to the bet365 Stadium, after surprisingly being left out of the starting XI against Chelsea, but Emre Can (muscle problem) and Dejan Lovren (knock) remain doubts. We may also see rotation at full-back for Liverpool, with Trent Alexander-Arnold a possible starter.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of this tonight’s 6.45pm deadline. Sorry for the repost but would really appreciate your advice guys!

Following on on my previous post where it was decided that I should take a hit to get Otamendi in as Jones and Dann are unlikely to play leaving only Naughton.
    Originally was going to do
    Jones > Otamendi
but I actually have enough funds to do
    Dann > Otamendi instead.
This means I can keep Jones and my defence would be:

    Pope, Elliot
    Alonso, Otamendi, Jones, Mee, Naughton

Therefore Jones would be my 3rd def and can be covered by likes of Mee if he doesn’t play.

    Is this a better move?

I’d do Jones to Otamendi to save som funds. Jones is made of glass, so get a certain 4.5-5.0 starter for the Christmas period.

      1. OldBenKenobi
        • 7 Years

Right but then I need to sort Dann out after that. Where as when Jones is back and fit he will play.

I had the same dilemma. Did Jones -> Mustafi. Still have Dann and will ship him for Zanka gw16 most likely. Can take a drop as Zanka isn’t rising.

My prob is I got Jones at 5.0 and just seems good value even if he doesn’t play every game especially if he is 3rd def. Hmm need to think more....

              6 years, 5 months ago

Ok. You got him cheap. Still don’t trust him but at that price he’s exceptional value if he plays, so better keep and pray that he gets fit soon. Also pray that he stays fit 😉

GW14 Captaincy - Jonty hasn't posted it yet so I'll get things started.

    Hazard.

His performances vs Bournemouth, United, WBA and Liverpool in recent weeks have been sublime.

Although Swansea haven't shipped many away from home, I doubt they can keep out Hazard and Chelsea - especially given the news that Fernandez won't play. Even so, if Chelsea only score 1, we all know Hazard could come away with 22 points as captain.

Hazard is pretty much assured maximum bonus points if he gets a goal/assist, and gets an extra point per goal and CS.

His new role as a secondary striker suits him very well - he's very close to Morata. We saw signs of their link up play come to fruition against WBA where Hazard was making late runs into the box from Morata's flick ons as per Hazard's first goal.

The worry is that there's a chance he could be rested but that's the case with any player this week whose name isn't Harry Kane. And would Conte risk dropping points considering City's lead?

I'd suggest checking Hazard's stats in the last 4 GW's, alongside Salah's, those are some pretty promising numbers. He is about to get another haul at some point in the coming weeks and I would like to think he could deliver well tomorrow.

He still has relatively low ownership and in a week where Lukaku plays a good Watford side, and Kane is somewhat suffering from the lack of supply by Alli/Eriksen, this is a good opportunity to jump up the rankings with a differential captain.

Tough one this week - so many great options.

I think Hazard looks the best, but I don't own him.

So for me between Kane and Morata.

Kane's away form may just give him the edge -both him and Morata great options though.

Read somewhere Hazard got a knock in first half vs Pool and didn't seem able to run as freely in the second half... is that right?

If so, I could see him being benched tomorrow and Conte startin Willian Morata Pedro

... or bench Morata and play Hazard as 'false 9' like he did away @Qarabag

Yeah he did get a knock, but carried on and was fine throughout he was instrumental to them and so dangerous. They way I see it is if he plays limited mins (could happen) he will only come off if they're up and for them to be up theres a high chance its going to come through Hazard. I think he's a great shout along with Kane. The fear is Kane blanks as your captain tonight and you could struggle

Sanchez. Arsenal rely on him to produce goals, and the way he celebrated the winner against Burnley indicates that he still cares. Typically a home match where they could score 3 or 4 goals, of course depending on which Arsenal version that turns up on the pitch.

No fecking idea tbh, which is a rare thing. Probably as sth to do with four bad C choices in a row - Salah 4, Kane 2, Kane 1, Sané 1.

Kane - Been burnt quite a few times this season. It all depends on Spurs form for this game and how Leicester will approach it. If Leicester go for it, can see Kane scoring a brace easily. If they sit back and try to counter attack, can see a Kane blank.

Salah - There is a distant possibility that he gets rested, or just plays 60ish mins.

Morata and Hazard - I'm afraid one of them will be benched, and the other might not play more than 60. Reason for this is I have a gut feeling Conte will start both Willian and Pedro - he has already said a few times he would have to rotate his squad. And if he starts both, then correct me if I'm wrong but there should oly be one spot left for Morata or Hazard.
And with my recent unlucky C choices, I just get the feeling the one I C would be the one benched.

Sané - Has been licking the touchline a bit too much in recent games. Unlucky with his FK at HUD though.

---> I don't know who to C. But I think Kane is the most likely of all to play close to 90 mins. Hate that my GW would be fcked tonight though if he blanks.

Jesus due to the fact that he has incredibly consistent returns. His problem is his lack of minutes, and the way things have unfolded he looks a set starter for wednesday.
Southampton are not impressing anyone and City will want to bounce back from a shaky performance against huddersfield.

I own Kane, Morata, Salah and Sane but the armband is going on Hazard.

own Kane, hazard, morata & salah.
Hazard's hauls have come away from home (a complete turn around from recent seasons). unlikely to play 90 minutes.
Leicester have conceded at least a couple against 3 of the top sides at home this season. Kane has 3 double scores away from home already.
Salah 5 double point hauls so far this season. Stoke 1 CS at home. Salah 5 away goals.
Morata probably the safest option but think Kane or Salah could outscore him.

as of now it's Morata but 2 minutes before deadline it'll probably go to Kane - did get 4 at Leicester last season.
But genuinely think all 4 will return decent captaincy points - at least 2 will have double figures.

Last season's game (Lei-Spurs) is not sth we should take into consideration I think

But yeah, Kane could score big. Or blank if Spurs play in a uninspiring, slow way
If they play well Kane scores a brace

that's the point of a Kane captaincy. Spurs can go slow and he blanks or (probably more than any other option) Kane still has that ability to explode and score very big.

Kane, because he is generally the main focus of Spurs attack plus has pens, and just think one game soon he will haul big and wouldn't want to miss that, plus Leicester seem to have lost a lot of their defensive edge they had for last couple of seasons

Kane has a tremendous record against Leicester, he has scored more against them than against any other team (10 goals, 2 assists in 9 games). He had a loan spell there once, don't know if that has anything to do with it.

Hazard has a poor record against Swansea despite Chelsea scoring plenty against them, it was usually Costa that did the damage in recent seasons. Hazard has 1 goal and 1 assist in 10 games against the Swans.

Hazard has done great since being in my team (GW8) but he's still a differential with 8% ownership. I think I will go with Kane as the safety play myself.

So how likely do we think Salah is to be rested? Surely he's a great shout, if only we knew for certain

For me it'll be Hazard due to the many reasons stated above, but if pressers enlighten me to anything RE Salah's nailedness this week it could well switch to him

        2. Ruth_NZ
          • 9 Years

He's very good, the loan spell in Germany has brought him on no end. Composed, positionally good, much stronger physically than he used to be.

How many games will he play for Chelsea? I guess that's what you are asking and the answer is that he is preferred to Luiz right now but that's not set in stone and Conte will rotate to a degree when the fixtures come thick and fast. If you want someone nailed, look elsewhere I think. He might play 6 of 9 games between now and GW22 at a guess.

Thanks Ruth, appreciate. Think I could risk it, even if it's just 6 of 9 gw's, could easily be more. Likely I'll have 3 of Ward/Kiko/RLC/Niasse on the bench so him getting rested would be very manageable.

Is having a record against a club something that should be given significant credence? I think it provides a small edge but nothing too significant.

I believe season stats/home & away stats/form stats are a materially better indicator than form against a particular team.

        Thoughts welcome.

        1. Ruth_NZ
          • 9 Years
          6 years, 5 months ago

I give it some credence. Whether others do is entirely up to them. Lots of top footballers have spoken about teams they always feel they will do well against and others they tend to struggle against. It may be psychological but psychology affects performance.

I think, on the other hand, that season's home and away stats are virtually meaningless. In my time on FFS I have seen all kinds of theories that such and such a player does better away, or at home, simply because the dice have recently fallen that way. And then, the next season, that same player is supposed to be better at home and untrustworthy away. It's all short-term variance being extrapolated into some kind of false principle.

People place WAY too much stress on short-term stats in my view. In specific cases - such as when a player is in a new position - they can be immensely useful. But in many cases - when nothing material has changed - they can be immensely misleading. I prefer the macro picture myself.

This reminds me of something else entirely, previously, one could hover over the FFS ticker to see results of past seasons for a specific fixture. I really enjoyed having a look at that, are there plans of bringing this back in any way?

    GW 14 Captain dilemma

Have Hazard, morata, Kane, Salah who are all good (C)-options this week.
Want to captain Hazard, since I think he and morata have about the same potential for points, but lower ownership.

But our Cash ML gives prices to top3 for every month. I'm 3:rd for November. Only 3p from the top, also just 15p from the manager at 10:th, so it's very tight.

Now thinking it might be safer to C morata. Since I think he is the one with highest chance of playing 90min this GW. All other options is due to be subbed of early, or maybe even start at bench.

    What do you think?

i looked at previous seasons how haz fares against swansea. they really arent his favourite side to play against. scoring just once in 5 years against them. the chelsea centre forward however(usually costa) has had a great time though scoring reguarly including a hatrick 2 years ago. this was enough for me to switch my captaincy to morata from haz. i know haz is in form and playing down the centre will help but i do find it to be true that certain players have certain teams they perform against eg. lukaku vs westham

You are 100% right on all points up.

My doubt is for this GW only. Captaing Haz before morata is most likely best decision longterm.
But the small chance of Hazard just playing 30-60min this GW could be the difference between £0-200 from my ML

The argument ist that morata might be a "safer options for minutes

Comparison tool is a great example of that.

The classic one for me was when Assou-Ekoto (remember him!) came out favourably over other Spurs defenders for threat ahead of a double gwk. He ended up as one of that dgwks highest scorers.

Tables are good as well - so when a poster makes a point and then says look at this table it can really show some great stats and insight.

A good example of that was when Cabaye was playing for Newcastle. The poster (can't remember his name, sorry) produced two tables - one showing how West Ham (who Cabaye was playing) were really vulnerable to long range shots and set pieces. Lots of us got Cabaye in - who rewarded us with mega points from his long range efforts and set pieces.

Hello guys. Team in quite good shape for this week but already looking forward where to go with this lot.

Do you think my priority should be to get Hazard in the coming weeks or would you focus on other players on my watchlist such as Sterling/Sane, Kiko Femenia in for Jones or Loftus-Cheek in for Stephens to back up Niasse? Bit of a vague question but I'd like to hear your thoughts on this.

    Pope
    Daniels, Dunk, Alonso, Mee
    Alli, Silva, Salah, Richarlison
    Kane, Morata

subs: Elliott ---- Jones, Niasse, Stephens --- 0.2 ITB, 0 FT

Either play Elliot and save FT or do Jones -> Mustafi and play him over Mee.

Going double Burnley in an away game would really kill me.

I've already used my transfers for this week. I'm quite ok with playing both Pope and Mee this week. I'm not sure if you read what I wrote above but my question was more about what road to take with transfers in the coming weeks. Should I concentrate my transfers on getting Hazard in GW15/16.

Try shipping Ali and Silva for Hazard and Strrling/Sane. Will need downgrade elsewhere for more cash.

Cheers, could do something like this:

        -GW15: Save FT
        -GW16: Alli, Silva & Alonso -> Hazard, Sterling & Otamendi (-4)

Maybe not good planning to do that for a hit but could take that road to get Hazard in.

Christensen could be rotated, I’d hold off for a week on that one.

For probably the first time ever I could probably make a case for each of my 7 mid/att to be captain

    Sane, Salah, Sterling, Hazard, Groß.
    Kane, Morata.

    Leaning towards Hazard.

I’ve got 5 of those plus Jesus. Currently on Salah but very tempted by Hazard.

Play Moreno over Ward - yes or no? Odds suggest he has more chance of a cleanie, and more attacking threat?

    Elliot (Fabianski)
Daniels - Ward - Moreno (Jones, Mbemba)
Silva - Salah (VC) - Richarlison - RLC (Choupo)
    Lukaku - Kane (C) - Jesus

I have 2 ft's and 0.2itb, what should I do? I need chelsea in my team and am thinking Lukaku > Morata and Jones > Otamendi/Christensen
