Granville created the monster that is the template squad – only for it to turn on him.

That delicious analogy sums up the latest Gameweek for the ScoutCast team, as our mediocre scores were left dwarfed by those who dared to break from the norm to turn to the unlikely differential that was Sergio Aguero.

This latest episode conducts a full post-mortem, as the aforementioned Granville is joined by Jonty, Andy, and Az to contemplate another #Kanexit scenario with the clamour for Man City “nostalgia pick” intensifying.

I miss out with flu. The kind that creates bleary-eyed selfies in Swansea City centre Marriot hotels. But unlike Kane’s notorious Gameweek 22, I fail to make a 17-minute appearance, and instead listen in while the quartet tackle more community questions, creating their own motley crew of characters along the way.

In the midfield chat, Az spits bile in the direction of “JLings”, while Jonty fancies Shaqiri “Ironside” as a poor man’s Hazard. Lukasz “Lidl” Fabianksi turns up in the debate on goalkeepers, while the team are unanimous on the fate of Andreas “The Curse” Christensen.

NB: this ScoutCast was recorded prior to confirmation that Manchester City’s fixture with Arsenal is likely to remain in Gameweek 28. Oh, and Az was off the mark when he said that City play Basel after West Brom, that first leg tie follows the Gameweek 27. Don’t panic Aguero owners. Leave that to the rest of us.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday evening. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

Thoughts on Arnie -> Allen/Choupo for an FT, then Lingard -> Pogba next week as long as Lingard doesn't drop in price again?

"5th mid" tells me nothing about how often you will play him. He could be a starter every week or he could be a 3rd sub!

On that basis, it's really hard to answer your question. But if Milly's going to spend most of the time on your bench I think the transfer is worth it, so long as Willian is out out.

    Adrian
    Alonso, Christensen, Ogbonna
    Sterling, Salah, Son, Lingard, Arnautovic
    Kane, Firmino

Subs: Pope --- Dunk, DCL, Mee, 1 FT, 0.2 ITB

    A) Arnautovic -> Shaqiri
    B) Arnie & Son -> Shaqiri & Sane/Mahrez (-4)
    C) Kane & Arnie -> Aguero & Shaqiri (-4)

He was a great pick last week, don’t think it’s worth ripping up your team to get Kun now.

Well first thing is dont even consider making another sub until the pressers have been held and u no whos in and out.
Then it's swap out whichever one of arnie and willian looks likely to be out longest. The other can maybe go in 26 if both out for a few weeks

Learn from your mistake and wait until after the FA Cup games. Don't make another hasty transfer - you may tempt fate.

If anything, I'd do Willian out. Had performed well recently but he hasn't ever been nailed this season (and IMO mot a great FPL pick for that reason.)

Wait on Arnie news. Although my heart would ship Willian, my head would ship Arnie if he's confirmed out. Wouldn't rid of Lingard (yet).

I never said Kane or Salah weren't great options to go with, of course they were.

But to say Aguero (NEW), an in-form Aguero with no competition up front and on penalties, was an "unlikely" differential is completely dismissive of their error and beratement of him last week

Blimey, the ScoutCast article is never serious - it always pokes fun at the content of the ScoutCast.

I say unlikely Differential because that's how it turned out. The haves and have nots split the Fantasy Football Community and he turned out to be a huge differential for the haves. And it's "unlikely" because Aguero is very rarely a differential of any sort.

It wasn't a comment to try and play down the fact we said we wouldn't get Aguero.

The thing is - and I've posted this earlier in the week - Aguero was second in the Scout Squad in three of our teams so none of use were doubting his ability to return in GW24.

It's just none of us were prepared to take a hit to get him in for GW24 and captain him over Kane in OUR teams.

To be fair, the highest goal scoring season held by Chesea (103 goals in the 09/10 season) - at this point in the season they had only 55 goals.

In comparison, City have 70. If City score 34 goals in their remaining 14 games (which is more than possible imo) I think it's a fair assumption that they are "the most devastatingly attacking team we've ever seen in this country" as Jazz points out

I agree that they are. I was just pointing out that, even in that brilliant City team, Aguero had returned his FPL owners 4 goals in 9 starts.

So I was trying to highlight that his output prior to GW24 was hardly convincing and indicative of a player about to get a 17-point haul.

Certainly not at the cost of a hit and to shun Kane as captain at Southampton - which was the backdrop to the question in the ScoutCast.

Kun a confidence player. Remove the threat of rotation or being subbed and he picks up his game.
Everyone was saying if one City striker got injured they'd bring in the other.
Brought in Kun as soon as Jesus got injured. He'll go as soon as Jesus gets fit.

Sure but everyone's team, budget and conditions are varied.

My point is that on the Cast, we were answering a question about whether we would swap Firmino for Kane and we answered from our own perspectives.

Firmino was on his way to Swansea, Kane to Southampton and none of us felt that Aguero warranted a hit and the armband over Kane under those circumstances.

In hindsight that was an error. A bad one but I think forgivable under the circumstances surrounding our own teams and our appraisal of Aguero's form and returns to that point.

If someone asked me whether Aguero would outscore Firmino I'd have said yes - I had doubts on Firmino at Swansea which is why I went with Vardy. So, certainly in my case, it wasn't because I didn't rate Aguero for GW24 and I'm sure the others would say the same.

It's great that so many benefited from the Aguero returns but it's a bit rough from my perspective to have missed on a big haul and then have to apologise for it!

I beat myself up about it because I had considered Christensen to Chillwell and Morata to Aguero for GW23 and turned it down.

                  i get this.
I brought in Kun in GW22 beause of Jesus injury (and because it was a medium/long terminjury) and held onto Kane. It was Son & Kun for Hazard & Firmino
which with Haz form & Son DGW seemed solid.
BUT I know I wouldn't have brought in Kun in GW24 for a hit with Kane & Salah already in my team as captaincy options.

This is the same 💩 argument that was trotted out last time Aguero hammered Newcastle. A few blanks beforehand and people forget what he's capable of. 4 in 9 conveniently forgets the 8 in 6 prior to that. It's the also the same argument that saw people miss Kane hauls in September. Ooh he's blanked a few in August, can't captain him in September!

They're both truly exceptional players and as good as they are, even they exhibit some variance. They're world class players so I couldn't give a monkeys if they've only had 4 in their last 9. Leo Messi had 4 in 11 recently then followed it up with 8 in 7.

              Sorry, end of rant.

My point with that stat was that his form wasn't a convincing factor.

We all run our teams differently and for me, if I'm going to take the captaincy from Kane and spend a hit, I needed Aguero to convince me in the here and now, not on reputation. I was almost with him but the Liverpool performance swayed me tbh.

When I make a transfer, it's often not as easy as just opting for the class players without something else to support it.

As an example, I doubt myself or many others will get Hazard for GW25 and yet he's arguably a world class player with a great fixture.

If he hauls, are those who do get Hazard for GW25 going to lambast the rest of us and claim it was obvious? They could, but it would be a little unfair.

I recognised that Aguero could score big vs Newcastle, just like I can Hazard potentially against Bournemouth.

But acquiring these expensive players often means sacrifice and I often need something more - like some convincing form - to persuade me. I just didn't see it "enough" with Aguero.

It was an error, but I don't buy that it was a glaring miss given the circumstances of my team.

I'm not knocking the decision not to get him, just that stat is a poor justification imo. Hits to ditch Firmino or not wanting to ditch Kane are fair enough reasons not to get him, but the 4 in 9 is cherry picked to paint a picture.

Fair enough but I'd be lying if I said it didn't affect my judgement.

I considered Aguero of course, but I looked at his output over those recent Gameweeks and didn't see a player who could hurt me that badly if I stuck with Kane as captain.

I was wrong of course, but those stats played a part in my call so I'm not rolling them out now just for sake of argument.

I guess it's a call on whether you take such stats as a view of current form and let them outweigh what we know the player is capable of. Like I say, the Liverpool eye test didn't help his cause. I was open and begging to be convinced but I just wasn't swayed.

I do think Hazard is an example where it could happen again. I'm sure there are those - me included - looking at his recent run of blanks and convincing themselves that they can get away with not having him vs Bournemouth.

Agreed on Hazard, he is a player I ignore more than I should to my detriment. The 4th one in that bracket is Alexis Sanchez. I know a few people are chomping at the bit to captain him in that HUD fixture in 26 and he's not even kicked a ball yet for United.

Yup, even when Jesus is fit he clearly starts the vast majority but that rotation risk is always annoying. 16 goals and 5 assists (not counting FPL assists) from 17 PL starts is pretty impressive for someone who's supposedly a shadow of his old self!

I think enough was made of the Jesus situation. Kane, Salah, Firmino coupled to a number of higher priced midfield options and a couple of varying template options in the last few weeks meant that the number of Kun mentions were simply diluted. It was always Kane or Kun and Firmino last GW for me, not all 3. It just couldnt have been and I have had 2 and 3 for a few weeks.

I thought City and Aguero looked way off it against Liverpool I saw plenty of miss placed passes and I thought several players were struggling especially when it came to their first touch . Kane was coming off a brace . Southampton have also struggled this season . In hindsight Eriksen and Son were sick and Spurs struggled . Calling Aguero an unlikely differential against Newcastle is wrong especially with his record against them but I don't think it was as glaringly obvious a decision as you made it out to be either .

I think it was Kane mainly.

We all felt he'd match or better Aguero and therfore he was our captain.

We weren't going to take a hit to get Aguero in and not captain him.

I think it was that simple.

Plus, none of us impressed with Aguero's form to that point.

Sure. Ideally. But we don't reherse - I I've no idea how the others are going to react when they were posed with the question of bringing Aguero in over Firmino. That was the question posed to us.

I think we'd all have to take a hit to do it and, our point was, we'd have to captain him over Kane to make that worth it. So we all came up negative.

Folk immediately translated that into Aguero not being a good pick for GW24. That's not what we were saying in the Cast, and our articles on the site backed that up.

Even so, a dreadful City side still managed to score 3 against one of the best home defences up until that game.

Maybe it is a case of hindsight, but surely a lot of people expected the inevitable bounce back for City, especially being at home against a relegation team like Newcastle.

Either way, what's happened has happened, against all odds...

Two of those goals came in the last 10 mins and came as a result of Liverpool taking their foot off the pedal . They also did not come off great play by City either . Aguero also missed a decent chance even if it was offside . It's all academic at this point and it's not that like I am reluctant to admit that I got it wrong I just refuse to admit it was a clear cut decision

When comparing, Richarlison fares better overall but Lingard better on key stats.

Sky Sports reported him as having scored 20 goals in over 50 games for Monaco which sounds quite impressive at first glance.
Looking at Wikipedia his record is in fact 21 goals in 95 games which isn’t quite as appealing!
