The Numbers Game – 2014/15 Review – Man United

After finishing seventh under former manager David Moyes in the previous campaign, 2014/15 was a transitional one for Man United. New boss Louis van Gaal splashed the cash on the likes of Angel Di Maria, Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw, in addition to drafting in Radamel Falcao on a season-long loan, yet despite having no European fixtures to concern themselves with, the Old Trafford outfit struggled for cohesion in the Dutchman’s first year at the helm.

Certainly, in front of their own fans, United were a real force to be reckoned with. Van Gaal’s side scored 41 home goals – a tally bettered only by neighbours City (44) – yet on the road, they were a different prospect altogether and netted just 21 times, only two more than relegated QPR.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Games on steam are so cheap these days that i actually end up spending far more than would have done previously
Back when all the games were really expensive, never bothered buying them , now they cheap i buy loads and half the time dont play them more than a couple of times

Yeah man, really can't go wrong with any of them, Witcher 3 is easily GoTY for me. Be prepared for some serious hours invested in it though 😉

Aye, that series has great addictive gunplay, one of the better Western games for sure. If you're into that setting, I'd definitely try one of the Borderlands games out or even Red Dead Redemption.

mine would have to be sassulo to the title first season pipping juve by 1 point, had some help as the injury gods ruled out tevez and pogba out for long periods, whilst zaza, sansone and berardi banged in and set up goals in equal measure.

i think it was during the colombia match that i noticed the usa women putting together passes like a top european men's side and taking cute little "aaron ramsey-esque" touches to find seemingly unseen teammates...i turned to my brother and asked whether he thought it was colombia making the usa look good, but i really think it was the usa's talent at work. tremendous displays.

About 4 or 5 years ago a poster by the name of AP managed to hoodwink a portion of the community into believing he had a friend who helped with coding the FPL site and he had the inside scoop that it would be launched at 4am the next day to avoid bandwidth issues.

Most saw it as the obvious wind up it was but he tricked more than a few into thinking it may be legit.

It was a decent gag at the time but frankly I wish people would drop it now, it simply doesn't work as a running joke.

          Def- a pair of 4.5's and a 4.0
Mid- 4th mid around 5.5 and 5th mid at 4.5

Whoever of Morgan or Huth is cheaper. I guess they will be the two nailed on both in 442 and 352. Also, if Schlupp moves and Fuchs is £4.5m, then he will be the best option.

I can't see why anyone would need more than a week or two off to recharge anyway.

I don't think they do. It's a myth. If anything, the longer they have off the worse they will be when they come back.

Just a short break is for the best.

It's not just the time off through its then the fitness training afterwards and all that jazz.

Like after an even minor injury, people like to have a good week training befor being a starter, a 2 week holiday would then mean he'd have to do training to catch up with the rest of the squad. You'd think someone like Sanchez would be fine though and the cops America is still heavy football so not exactly lounging around.

Timings do allow it all but final decision goes to manager and how he feels about someone walking into training 3 weeks after everyone else and walking into the starting line up, no matter who he is some bosses would feel it would belittle the regime

I'm aware of that, which is exactly my point. I think anything beyond a week or two would provide minimal benefits of the removal of fatigue etc (can't see why you would have any after that long anyway...) but would exacerbate the loss of fitness/conditioning.

The shorter the time off the less time it takes to get back up to speed.

Yea I agree. I was sort of agreeing with you and a shorter break will be better, but he does deserve a holiday and a bit of a recharge. There were places he looked tired carrying the whole of the arsenal team last season.

It's just wenger but if say he's more likely to play him than Pelli will play afuero fists game.

I bet you anything Sanchez will spend 3 hours on his holiday getting ready for pre-season - he can't do anything but play football.

I think Arsenal are the one side who could do without their star player.

When you have Cazorla, Rambo, Wally, Ozil, the ox, Giroud, etc they can play around with the squad.

it could be a perfect time for Wally to be tested without Alexis. Wenger will make the decision.

Even Lambert was 7.5m last season. As it stands he's a guaranteed starter for the start of the season so he won't be cheap.

The same money yes. But, like this site template teams tend to form. I think the spread will be greater resulting in bigger variations in sides to copy.

Lets hope so. But I don't think it'll be different to any other year. It's the points scored (and subsequent wildcards used) that tends to promote the template - there's normally a good deal of diversity at the season start.

I must agree. I would just like to see harder choices than the last few seasons. The more current info you have the more template sides get so i can't argue.

These your valuations? I plan on doing some pricing like I do for horses in the next days.

How are you pricing player like firmino?

Likes of he and depay I'm not sure how to rate. Maybe just crude subjective comparison. Ie find the player I expect them to play like and be like... Firmino = Coutinho. Depay = Mata

Note: When I say play like I mean in terms of fantasy relevance, not style or ability. Obv Depay a completely different player to Juan Mata but on a points/game/minute basis expect similar

I agree and expect Firmino to come in at 9.0, though possibly 8.5
