The ScoutCast – Episode 168 – Casual

What makes a “casual” ScoutCast host? Perhaps one who takes to his bed even after a table topping 60-point return?

Despite bringing in his biggest haul of the season, leaving both Jonty and myself in his wake, Granville’s man-flu gets the better of him. Not to worry, Luke, aka “D1sable”, drops in to fill his evening slippers, helping steading the ScoutCast ship as we prepare to cross the choppy waters of another community fueled episode.

Luke and I look on enviously while Jonty gets dewy eyed about Dimiti Payet’s Monday night returns, before we switch attention to the fortunes of the Fantasy Football Scout crowd, scanning their Gameweek tallies in another bout of “Rough with the Smooth”, which this week includes a precautionary tail of a Fantasy Football rage injury.

We round off, as always, with another bout of community questions, assessing the lure of the five-man midfield, strikers and their desperate quest for bonus points, the great “casual” debate, whilst entertaining the idea of making Kolarov our captain. The season could hardly be more bizarre.

This episode was broadcast live via Google Hangouts on our YouTube channel on Wednesday night (before the Pedro news). Be sure to subscribe to our channel to get alerts on new episodes.

Bit stuck with whom to replace first...

    A) Huth + Coates --> Nyom + Francis + 0.1m

    B) Mané + Coates --> Payet + Gomez/Evans

    Ruddy | Rudd
    Azpilicueta | Kolarov | Huth | Coates | Targett
    Hazard | Özil | Mané | Mahrez | Fletcher
    Aguero | Benteke | Diouf

    2FT + 0.3m ITB

No need to do Mane to Payet this week with Payet at MCI. I'd consider Huth for Nyom this week and float the other transfer to next week.

I would not get Gomez. Unsure of his place in the team. I would not get Evans. Get Dawson somehow. Evans so injury prone. Frankly, I think neither of your transfers are worth two transfers.

I'd do Hazard > Sanchez first.

Thanks. Both Huth and Coates are probably going to fall in price by GW6 which is why I'm tempted to get rid ASAP.

Not yet convinced by Sanchez, even if Hazard is in the mire currently.

How does Liverpool shifting from a 4-3-3 to the 3-4-2-1 formation affect Clyne? I want him in for shaw.

    Sorry, bottomed out

Diouf owners: swapping to pelle for gw9 gives you an insane run of fixtures:

You can also consider keeping Diouf until 10-11 as he has WAT (GW10) and new (GW11)

We'll see depending on form, Stoke hasn't scored many goals yet

      form over fixtures.

Pelle may have the most shots but his accuracy isn't that great (~30%) and Stoke have created the second fewest chances in the PL.

True, but a huuuge proportion of Stoke's chances fall to Diouf, and he has been in good form to be fair

          what constitutes good form?

he scored a goal each against Spurs and Norwich 3 weeks ago and has only taken 10 shots this season in the PL (admittedly 9 being on target which is quite good).

Yeah, he's been alright, and actually scored goals and got baps, which is more than a lot of strikers in FPL this season. I'm happy to hold for 3/5 more fixtures

I'm not saying he's a bad option..maybe the fixtures will outweigh the creation and they'll up the ante some? I looked VERY closely at him when I WCed GW3

Yeah, I actually back Stoke to improve pretty soon too. Their fixtures so far havent been the easiet (especially compared to the ones coming up) and with the players they have, they have to start scoring more soon. Will reassess after their amazing next three fixtures and make a choice then

this is my current team atm

    Begovic
    Kompany Gomez Clyne
    Hazard Touré Mahrez Ayew
    Wilson Gomis Agüero

Bench is shaw and Gamboa who doesn't play and the Andreu who is not in the league anymore. No FT's left, Sure this isn't WC worthy just to get a bench ? Seems risky with gomez kompany and aguero concerns whether they'll play a full game.

I think the effect Shaw's absence will have on United's defense is being overstated by many on here. LVG has the backline playing as more than the sum of its parts and you could argue that Shaw's overlapping runs have left us exposed at the back on more than one occasion (Swansea match had 2 that resulted in goals).

Probably depends if he decides to play Rojo as a CB and Blind as a LFB or vice versa

true. if Blind stays at CB I have no concerns about United's defense keeping on. Rojo doesn't really have much positional awareness AND is very rusty having not played with United since late May.

we are well stacked in the left back position thats for sure with rojo who was outstanding for argentina in the world cup as was blind for holland and in some of our best performances last season..

its going forward that we will miss shaws power and pace that simply cant be replaced but we will be fine..

    6. Boo Ya Ka Sha

true. but from another perspective.. United leaked 2 goals after his injury. Rojo certainly doesn't make their defense any better.

first being a fluke from an unfortunate Blind redirecting after the initial header came from a player who arguably shouldn't have been on the pitch.

second being down to Rojo being inexplicably thrust into CB and just blissfully unaware that #11 was behind him despite Blind trying to bring it to his attention. be it positional awareness or just rustiness (hasn't played with United since late May) I wouldn't chalk it up as the norm.

that being said, I stand by what I said even if Rojo plays CB, just less fervently, as Blind has struck up a good partnership with Smalling

Exact cash to do Pedro/Ww > Ayew/Barkley (with Aguero/Gomis/Wilson) seems tempting and offers a strong 5mids / 3 forwards although gives a benching headache but helps if a player is rested/rotated.
    Thoughts?

I would go for a cheaper 5th mid who you can still rotate. Sako or Sinclair perhaps? Who is Ww btw?

Westwood, I'm starting to wonder is 3-5-2 the way to go with Wilson or Ighalo up top?
        Silva/Sanchez/Maha/Payet(Ayew)/Barkley looks awesome.

Just a quick recap on Gameweek 5. Seems we're still miles away from getting our (c) right as a community. This week saw the majority of home teams win for the first time this season (7 of 10 fixtures), with Spurs and Man City grabbing narrow away wins as the bookies' favourites. So it looks like teams are starting to get the results we expect, but certain individual players of these teams are still delivering below expectation. Perhaps another week or two will change this.

        Benteke (c) Wilson (vc)

Only had one successful (c) so far this season with Benteke in GW2, had Aguero last week 😕

Not taking the risk on Kun again this week, never know which WHM side will turn up or how many minutes he will get. I think owning him is enough for now until he hits top form.

Same here, 1/5 which was CB-sold since, I'm actually contemplating Wilson with Bournemouth, but I fear missing that Aguero 'haul' he's due keeps ringing in my ears!

The thing is I can't see Aguero getting 90 minutes this weekend

In fact I'm a bit worried that he might not start 😕 and even if he does start:

If City are leading he may be subbed early as they go for a 1-0

If City aren't leading he could play a full 90 minutes and risk aggravating his injury

so i have done some research into bolasie vs sako....

whilst many articles are questioning putting bolasie in our teams over sako...

Bolasie last season made 31 appearances but still only managed 4 goals and 6 assists.

he took an average of 2 shots per game.... this season he is still yet to register a single point other than for appearances.

now some may argue this is down to injury and his father passing, but last season jus shows that whilst his impact on the team may be significant his fantasy record jus isnt prolific

now wen we come to sako the sample size is smaller but show a great current form and the ability to play in 3 positions.

from 3 games he has had 2 goals 1 assist and 6 bonus points. and the one game he did blank was against man city. he has take 4 shots per game.

As the season has shown so far we really should take form over anything else..... u cant argue he is on a much better form atm then bolasie..... Jus because bolasie may take the cf this week doesnt mean he'll be in the points... all the point this season are coming from midfield.... with strikers really struggling....

im hovering over the sako button..... but reading articles here always make me question my decisions..... is it time to go maverick? thought?

would appreciate some response.... im currently ranked jus under 400k

      @Kemosabe
Sako looks tempting but it's Bolasie all the way for me once his fixtures start to improve - which is looking like next week- his improvement over the last 2 seasons has been constant. 2 years ago I thought 'wow' his final ball just wasn't there, last season his FPL numbers maybe didn't do justice to the level of performance he put in.
Now the transfer window is closed I reckon he's about to launch.

Just for the sake of argument, i had written this previously

and specifically highlighted this about Bolasie

Well, last week Bolasie, Sako, Puncheon and Zaha all started against City. Which one lasted the full 90? Zaha.

Puncheon was injured, otherwise he'd have played the 90 as he did in the 4 previous games. Think he's being slightly overlooked in the Palace mids debate. I'm avoiding all though, hard to call who'd bring in the points on a consistent basis.

I considered it but then worried that Pool will give up at least one to Norwich and the solution would be short-term. I opted for Nyom, but Pool defenders certainly should be considered.

If you want a few assists and magic and missed goal attempts. Ayew, Payer, Lens better picks.

A for the long imo, B is not a bad option either. Theo is not a consistent player enough, and can't see Southo not shipping a goal against United. CPL Mid might not be terrible.

Very insano with him not being healthy yet. Not so insano if he is able to win the lone forward spot.

Morning lads, interesting week, got few options I'm weighing up but firmly on C atm

    A) Gomez > Dawson
    B) Pedro > Coutinho/Ayew/Lens
    C) Save FT

    Butland
    Kolarov Gomez Darmian
    Pedro* Sanchez(v) Mahrez(c) Silva
    Kun Wilson Gomis

    McCarthy Richards Muniesa Westwood

Defo save it. Bench is extremely strong, more than good enough for you to save the FT this time round.
