Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 27 – Sunday

Marcus Rashford scores twice as United beat Arsenal at Old Trafford. Mesut Ozil grabs a goal and assist for the beaten Gunners, Nacer Chadli and Danny Rose fire Spurs to victory at home to Swansea, whilst City defeat Liverpool on penalties to clinch the Capital One Cup.

Rashford at the double

Marcus Rashford capped off a stunning week by bagging his second brace in as many starts and providing an assist as Manchester United recorded a 3-2 win over Arsenal. Although the 4.5-priced forward now represents an exciting differential ahead of a home clash against Watford, Anthony Martial’s potential return from a hamstring complaint casts doubt on the youngster’s long-term minutes. Moreover, Man United’s blank in Gameweek 30 and tricky run thereafter (mci, EVE, tot) tempers our enthusiasm.

Elsewhere in the Red Devils camp, Ander Herrera netted his third goal of the campaign, while Jesse Lingard scooped an assist. That latter has produced attacking returns (two goals, one assist) in three of his previous four league starts, rendering him a prime pick-up in the budget bracket and a possible facilitator in future double Gameweeks.

Despite missing Chris Smalling because of a shoulder injury, Man United’s patchwork defence – that included Michael Carrick and Daley Blind as a centre-back partnership – did enough to keep Arsenal at bay. Marcos Rojo’s return to league action was short lived, though, as he was substituted at the 55-minute mark with an ankle problem. Nonetheless, Louis van Gaal is confident that the Argentine defender didn’t sustain a serious injury.

Ozil in the points again

Arsenal’s quest to claim the Premier League crown suffered a setback, but Mesut Ozil’s 50% ownership were left delighted with his goal and assist. Since carding four consecutive blanks from Gameweek 20, the Germany international has notched two goals, a pair assists and seven bonus points in three outings, reaffirming his status as the premier route into the Gunners’ attack.

Conversely, Alexis Sanchez tested the patience of his 13% ownership with a tenth successive blank. The Chile international amassed nearly triple the amount of shots inside the box (14) than any other member of Arsenal’s midfield contingent across the past four Gameweeks, but a woeful 19% shot accuracy is holding him back. If he fails to deliver at home to Swansea next Gameweek, the prospect of a trip to Spurs and potential blank in Gameweek 30 (if they beat Hull in the FA Cup) could trigger an exodus.

Having come up short in his previous five league outings, Olivier Giroud was dropped for the Old Trafford showdown, with Theo Walcott claiming the lone-striker berth. Danny Welbeck was also drafted in for his first start of the term and went on to grab a goal and assist, adding to his late winner against Leicester last time out. Having started on the right at Old Trafford, Welbeck has staked a major claim to lead the line at home to Swansea next time out.

Tottenham keep on track

Tottenham Hotspur displayed great resilience to recover from a goal down and secure a 2-1 win over Swansea City. Unperturbed by the visitors’ early strike, the Lilywhites turned out a dominant attacking performance, chalking up a staggering 34 attempts and 14 shots on target.

Harry Kane – who was passed fit after missing Spurs’ last fixture with a broken nose – failed to find the back of the net, despite mustering more attempts (seven), shots inside the box (six) and shots on target (three) than any forward this Gameweek.

In midfield, Christian Eriksen dropped back to the double pivot to compensate for the absence of Mousa Dembele, allowing Dele Alli to retain his advanced role. Meanwhile, Nacer Chadli emerged from the bench and notched his second goal in five starts, strengthening his case for a starting slot in Tottenham’s attacking quartet.

Much to the frustration of Toby Alderweireld’s 43% ownership, the North Londoners’ defence conceded a solitary goal for the seventh time in nine Gameweeks. Danny Rose’s goal and Kyle Walker’s assist underlined the attacking potential of their full-backs, yet Mauricio Pochettino’s propensity for rotation negates their Fantasy appeal.

Paloschi strike not enough for Swans

Alberto Paloschi registered his maiden Premier League goal (Jack Cork assist) as the Swans’ winless streak extended to four matches. The 5.8-priced Italian – who produced three shots inside the box at White Hart Lane – harbours minimal attraction before a trip to Arsenal. However, Swansea’s schedule beyond that match-up (NOR, bou, AVL, sto) catches the eye, with their home ties against Norwich and Aston Villa looking ripe for offensive returns.

City earn the silverware

Manchester City triumphed 3-1 over Liverpool in a penalty shootout to secure the League Cup. The head-to-head ended 1-1 after regulation time and extra time, with Fernandinho netting for the Sky Blues in the 49th minute.

Sergio Aguero turned provider for the Brazilian, adding an assist to the goal he scored against Dynamo Kiev in midweek. Considering that Man City entertain Aston Villa in Gameweek 29 and enjoy a trip to Norwich in a truncated Gameweek 30 that’s scattered with blanks, the stage is set for Aguero to deliver explosive returns next month.

Coutinho nets for defeated Reds

Philippe Coutinho struck in the 83rd minute to send the Wembley encounter into extra time. Allied with his trio of assists in a 6-0 drubbing of Villa, the twinkle-toed Brazilian is putting together a cogent case for investment. For now, the Reds’ upcoming home clash against Man City and Gameweek 30 blank act as deterrents, but Coutinho’s certainly on our radar for their forthcoming double Gameweeks.

Following a clash of heads with Emre Can, Mamadou Sakho was replaced at the 25-minute mark at Wembley, making him a doubt for the Sky Blues’ visit on Wednesday.

Do people really think they will cancel Arsenal v WBA and arrange Arsenal v Watford (If it happens) with 4 days notice?

How do you think the logistics of that will work? Letting WBA fans down with that many days notice with travel etc seems extremely unlikely.. Let alone the ticket sales for Arsenal Watford?

Surely the GW30 game will go ahead and they will have to fit the Arsenal Watford FA Cup game in elsewhere?

Find it difficult to believe they'll do potentially only be doing ticket sales from Wednesday morning until Sunday but it confirms it there!

Pretty bad to leave WBA fans hanging when they've probably spent money booking trains etc too!

Feel sorry for the fans. Pretty stupid scheduling FA Cup quarter final games on the same day as PL as you're bound to have at least 5/6 Prem teams involved. I know it's due to the Euros but they need a rethink next time.

Yep - it will be back to just the semis next year but the issue will come up again for the World Cup a year after. Before they seem to have utilised midweek slots early season/December when there's no CL or EL - don't know why they didn't do that more this season - there weren't many spare midweeks but there were one or two.

Team looks good but I would hold fire this week. Maybe burn that transfer because your team looks good, I would maybe look at getting a DGW keeper in for one of your existing keepers. Maybe Forster --> Hart if you are going to play Butland this week anyway and you also have VVD as Saints defender

    Butland
    Wollscheid, Simpson, Bellerin
    Sanchez, Payet, Mahrez, Özil
    Aguero, Kane, Vardy

subs: Hennessey --- Fonte, Ward, Alli --- 2 FT, 0.6 ITB

    C) Ward -> Williams
    D) Something else, what?

Who to Captain and Who to bench ?
Sánchez; Mahrez; Lingard; Khazri; Özil; Costa; Rashford; Agüero

Right now I'm captaining Khazri and benching Sanchez and that just feels like 7 shades of weird.

Captain Aguero. Bench Lingard (likely injured, which means potential cameo if at all he gets into the pitch)

When Shawcross comes back into the side, what happens to Bardsley? Will someone shift outside to RB or will Bardsley hold his place?

Fonte or VvD = baps+goalthreat. The rest are not worth the rotation headache.

Bertrand is. But in his current LCB role, he will not get any baps nor any attacking returns.

I've gone Fonte a few weeks ago. VVD is the popular pick here, but not much between them for me.

Went with VvD only cos I had him earlier on in the season and quite liked him. Seen some stats mentioning that Fonte has actually been the more attacking CB. Still went with VvD cos I believe he'll take a FK and score one of these days.

But as mentioned, Fonte due to rise soon.

Trying something different with my transfers, since doing the dullard move hasn't seemed to pan outlately. Appreciate your thoughts on this.

    GW28: GJ->Kompany
    GW29: Sanchez+Payet->Silva+Siggy

Would get me 11 for GW30, and allow for 2 FT's coming into GW31

    Butland, Elliot
    Bellerin, Kompany, Dann, Fonte, Simpson
    Ozil, Silva, Mahrez, Ali, SIggy
    Kun, Kane, Vardy

Ypour proposed transfers look good on paper. Only hesitance is in losing Payet. Still very much a danger man for WHU IMO. But those moves could very well pay off.

Already did GJ>VvD last GW and looking at Cresswell>Kompany after he plays back to back games.

    Henesee (Myhill)
    Cedric Rose Daniels (Wolly Moreno)
    Mahrez Sanchez Arnie(c) Alii (Antonio)
    Kane Aguero (V) Vardy 1FT , 2.7 ITB

Firstly ,Do you guys think I have my team set out right? I have gone for the defenders with the mmost upside in attack and benched wolly in his good fixture however stoke defence has been poor of late.

    Secondly, please pick one:
A: Save FT, and then do sanchez and Antonio to silva (avl) and siggy(nor) for free followiig week, bench arnie away at Chelsea

B: Myhill to schmeical/ cech/ forster and then do only sanchez to silva the following week ,; play Antonio away at everton, still bench arnie.

C: Kane to lukaku(C), just get silva next gw ,then do lukaku back to kane in gw30 🙁 C seems bad cos of all the wasted transfers but im seriously worried lukaku gonna get double figures against villa and kane doesn't have dembes at the mo

Look of the fixtures of the alternatives though, like Siggy. Payet also has a blank upcoming.

Not saying Payet is a terrible option at the moment, but there just appear to be better ones, and at the end of the day you can only have 5 mids at once.

Playing Daniels ahead of Simpson now that Kante is a doubt. Is this a silly thing to do considering Leicester are very solid at the back?
I think it has a lot to do with Kante.

    1. Mata-Is-The-Juan
      • 11 Years

Doubt Pulis will plan to play an attacking game. Willing to bet he'd set up for a draw at least.
Also, it shouldn't be a big deal replacing Kante for 1 game.

Then again, I could just be trying to reassure myself as double LEI defense owner.

I think if it was Fuchs or Huth the decision would be easier. I would play them for the baps and goal/assist potential.
Cheers. Maybe WBA is a perfect time for Kante to be out. Cheers.

I'm considering playing Daniels over Fuchs. Kante out + WBA playing some good stuff vs. Palace make me think they'll score at least one. Alli out might mean I end up playing both anyway, though!

got my ML leaders lead down to 78 points now
how many of same players do you think is too much?

If I bring in vardy we would have 6 the same. With another two defenders from same teams.
It leaves me relying on aguero willain and payet plus (C) to pull back the points
he has ighalo, albrighton and barkley different at the moment
the similar players are likely to all stay in teams for next few weeks
