Rate My Wildcard Team Surgery – Part Two

Welcome to the second of our Rate My Wildcard Team articles of the week. These will showcase the thoughts of one of the Fantasy Football Scout moderators and contributors team on their Wildcard. Hopefully some of their key issues will mirror your own. Feel free to use this article thread to put forward your Wildcard teams and to help others with their Wildcard-related issues. Jonty presented his wildcard thoughts earlier in the week and next up is Andy85wsm with his all-out assault on Gameweek 34.

My Wildcard Team

Robles – Darlow
Smalling – Bellerin – Gabriel – Sakho – Delaney
Sanchez – KDB – Lanzini – Bolasie – Coutinho
Mitrovic – Aguero – Lukaku

Strategy

I plan to use my Gameweek 33 Wildcard to set me up with 15 players for Gameweek 34, when I will use my bench boost. The reason I’m wildcarding now is that my pre-Gameweek 33 team is not set up for the doubles at all with only Sergio Aguero and Dimitri Payet as decent options. For Gameweek 37 I will use my triple captaincy chip.

Key Issues

The De Bruyne Sacrifice

By bringing in Kevin De Bruyne alongside Sergio Aguero I have a huge amount of cash tied up in an erratic Manchester City attack, that plays away from home twice. Am I sacrificing too much by focusing so much cash in just two players?

Lack of Leicester and Spurs

In constructing my Wildcard team I’m waving goodbye to Kasper Schmeichel, Riyad Mahrez, Jamie Vardy, Danny Rose, Dele Alli and Harry Kane. This is a scary prospect considering most have performed exceptionally well in recent weeks and all have a great Gameweek 35 fixture.

Sakho’s Inconsistency

Mamadou Sakho played like a schoolboy against Spurs in Gameweek 32, but like a seasoned warrior against Manchester United in the Europa League. Has he made too many mistakes to be considered nailed on in the Liverpool defence? Or will his excellent performances keep him in the first XI?

Regrets for Payet

Dimitri Payet is undoubtedly West Ham’s prize asset with his free kicks as good as penalties given his accuracy. Will I regret going for second best with Manuel Lanzini?

Mitrovic’s starts

Seeing Mitrovic benched against Norwich at the weekend looked ominous. He then came on to score a brace, including a penalty. He looks nailed on for now, but is he?

From the Sublime to the Ridiculously Dull

Yannick Bolasie represents a real maverick punt for the double Gameweek 33 for Crystal Palace. But keeping him for the London side’s next double in Gameweek 34 is a bridge too far for me. Instead I plan to swap him out for a player that is much maligned as the poster boy for dullards – James Milner. Is this the best use of that slot, or should I stick with Bolasie?

Could someone PLEASE help me out before I break down from FF Pressure haha:

    Current Team (A):
    Robles / Migs
    Sakho Delaney Simpson Gabriel Darmian
    Sanchez Mahrez Bolasie Lennon Courtinho
    Lakaku Kane Aguero

    Possible Team (B):
    Robles / DDG
    Sakho Delaney Simpson Gabriel Colocini
    Sanchez Lingard Payet Lennon Courtinho
    Lakaku Kane Aguero

What issues do people see? Team B has the issue of no keeper in GW35. I really want Payet but just can't seem to fit him in though 🙁 Is it worth going for Lanzini? Any help?

    Thanks 🙂

    Cheers.

I think I'd rather have Payet than Kane for next two fixtures at least, so I would do some shuffling!

I'd go with B 100% personally. Lingard and payet hopefully beat Mahrez and bolasie over the next 3. Obviously your keeper less for 35 and can only field 10 with 2 ft but not the end of the world. B has better team balance as well as lingard can be cheapie 5th mid when not on a double. Would you lose a lot of value on Mahrez ? Even if you did it's not that important over the last weeks and you have leister defence to compensate for no Mahrez ...?

Thanks so much for the help..

Do you know if Souaré starts for Palace? I could downgrade Delany for Souaré if so! Then keep Darmian & Mignolet as shown below...

        Mignolet(X2) Robles(X2)
        Simpson(1) Sakho(X2) Gabriel(X2) Souaré(X2) Darmian(X2)
        Sanchez(X2) Payet(X2) Courtinho(X2) Lennon(X2) Lingard(X2)
        Lakaku(X2) Aguero(X2) Kane(1)

Fascinating reading everyones' draft team selections and strategising over the remainder of the season. So many possibilities! Please rate my team, I have activated my wildcard this week and intend to play Bench boost in week 34.

    Robles / Mignolet
Huth / Gabriel / Bellerin / Van Dijk / Delaney
    Sanchez / Payet / Coutinho / Mahrez / Lennon
    Sturridge / Aguero / Lukaku

This gives me 12 DGW players for week 34 (while retaining a Leicester presence) and 10 players with a game in week 35. Any suggestions for improvement much appreciated.

Can anyone tell me why more people are not considering Sturridge as a differential selection?

Good point, but subject to staying injury-free, is he not a certainty for selection in a Liverpool team that looks really good attacking-wise? His goals per game ratio has always been amazing.

I like the Sturridge option, considered him myself but he just made my team to unbalanced. He could also have reduced minutes given the Dortmond game

This is me. BB 34, TC 37. 0.5 banked

    Migs Robles
    Bellerin Gabriel Dann Fuchs Clyne
    KDB Sanchez Payet Mahrez Bolasie
    Aguero Lukaku Rashford

Pretty template by the looks of things apart from:

Dann - great ppg, good attacking numbers and excellent fixtures.

Bolasie - A risk, but he got MOTM last week. He should be given more freedom to roam and attack with the upcoming games and we all know he has the potential to explode.

Rashford - Massively overlooked imo. So cheap and highest ppg in the whole of united team. Not great numbers, but when he does get a chance its usually from 6 yards out. He'll only play in the double and I expect him to get decent minutes even with Rooney back.

Lack of liverpool attack - I'll would like one but they seem a bit of a lottery and all could have reduced minutes given the Dortmond game. I'll bring either Coutinho or Firmino in for Bolasie in GW 35

    Any thoughts appreciated!

Can see the logic with Bolasie pick, but personally would prefer to have an attacking Everton midfield option, given 4 fixtures in next two game weeks. Going with De Bruyne seems to be a popular move, but given his cost, lack of recent game-time and also having Aguero, I prefer other midfield options (Coutinho / Ozil)

KDB does seem a popular move but Man City also face rotation risks with important CL games coming up, the same reason you gave for being unsure of Liverpool attackers

Liverpool been unlucky last game - could have put 4 past Spurs with a little more luck. Coutinho could have had a hat trick himself. I just feel that not having any Liverpool forward presence is a big risk.

    Hi guys8

I need some help. Can't chose between those options

A- Lanzini or Antonio (looks like Antonio will play higher on the field now that WHU have some people back in defense)
    B - coutinho or Firmino?

A - I'll go against the grain and say Antonio. Better attacking numbers even when playing in defence and should play back in midfield now.

B - If Firmino is fit then toss a coin.

How do you guys rate my WC team:

    GK: DDG & Darlow
DEF: Bellerin, Rojo, Mangala, Coleman, Sakho.
MID: Sanchez, Ozil, Mahrez, Payet, Coutinho.
    ATK: Aguero, Lukaku, Rashford

    0.5 in the bank.

Should I double up on arsenal def or keep ozil ?

Any thoughts on this for a first wildcard attempt:

    Hennssey/Darlow
    Delaney/Jagielka/Clyne/Monreal/Chester
    Barkley/Sako/De Bruyne/Coutinho/Sanchez
    Aguero/Lukaku/Sturridge

Tempted by Mitrovic over Sturridge and freeing resource up for transfers at another point.

That gives me six double-players for GW33, an entire squad for GW34, a full team for GW35 if I sub Sako for Lanzini and sets me up to bring Sunderland/United players in for weeks 36 & 37.

Barkley has had very poor returns lately so might be worth looking at the many alternatives. Lanzini or Antonio would free up cash to upgrade Mitrovic to Martial and/or Migs to DDG.

I am nervous about having DDG this weekend (Spurs away) but am hopeful he could deliver in 34 against poor opposition. Am inclined to stick and pray that Rafa masterminds a cleanie against Liverpool in 35

very similar to mine, except Payet obviously! I'm holding off on kdb for Lennon and Bolasie for 33 then one of them will become kdb gw34 depending on who does what. this means I can keep Kane one more week should I desire, but it will cost me -4

The real conundrum in all this strategic planning for GWKs 33 & 34 is the current hot form and lack of DGWK for Kane and the poor form with DDGWK for Lukaku.

Thinking of maybe sticking with Kane and ignoring Lukaku on the basis of his and Everton's current form.

    Anyone else have these thoughts?

For me, I just can't see two other strikers that are worth getting in. Kun yes, because of his explosiveness, but I don't like the idea of punting on Mitrovic or a United strikers (or whoever else people are going for).

Because of that, I've got a couple of cheaper midfielders in my draft in Iwobi and Lanzini which I suppose is pretty risky in itself.

    GTG? - 0.2itb = 9 GW35 with 2 ft's

    DDG / Robles

    Delaney / simpson / gabriel / Bellerin / Sakho

Lanzini / Coutinho / Payet / Sanchez / De Bruyne

    Aguero / Martial / Lukaku

Options are S.taylor and Mangala or Delaney and Sakho?

Your only problem is you will need to change your keeper for GW 35 and already have 5 outfield players not playing so you'll need a hit to field 11 if I'm correct?

I thought this was done, but I've just spotted I can afford Hart now he's returned, so...

    Hart - Gomes
    Bellerin - Fuchs - Sakho - Gabriel - Delaney
Sanchez - De Bruyne - Payet - Coutinho - Mahrez
    Aguero - Kane - Mitrovic

I feel I have to point out that this team is entered in a Liverpool Supporters ML (my main cash league), and I cannot buy any Everton or Utd players (before any suggests it).

    Really appreciate your thoughts

Cheers mate! As well as adding some City cover to my defence, this has the added advantage (I've just realised) of allowing me to do Kane > Sturridge for GW37 if he's fit and firing at that stage

It looks like it's boiling down to this decision for me -

    A) Bellerin, Soure, KDB

    B) Monreal, Smalling, Firminho

(Both teams include Coutinho, DDG & Gabriel)

      That's tough!

But because you already have DDG and Coutinho, A.

      Also, Bellerin's potential is massive.

Actually, maybe not that tough 🙂

Hi guys, can you help me squeeze one LIV defender in my team so it would still be balanced enough? Would really appreciate it.

So this is me. 0.0M ITB. Who should be the one going out? Martial to Mitrovic?

I need one GW35 playing defender with DGW37.

    Robles - Darlow
    Bellerin - Smalling - Gabriel - Delaney - Simspon
    Sanchez - KDB - Payet - Coutinho - Lingard
    Aguero - Lukaku - Martial

    Thanks guys.

Thanks for the tip mate. I thought about it, but don't know why I see Bellerin as a must have for me 🙁 His points lately hurt as hell as I didn't have him and my main ML rival took advantage of it.

Thanks for the tip once again, will have to reconsider my options.

Yup, I'm worried by the lack of bellerin in my team. I haven't had him all season and he's been killing me. From what ive seen some of his goals/assists have been jammy though, which suggests they might stop coming

Could easily be the case but I think I'm sticking with him I guess. Would have to take some risks though with some players (as you advised with Rojo...) and hope they play.

    Sakho, mangala, souare, gabriel, evans
