The Stock Check

The Stock Check – Gameweek 2 – Friday

Typically, Zlatan Ibrahimovic ensures that he crashes the Paul Pogba party, but the impact of the Frenchman’s energy at Old Trafford was there for all to see. Here’s the Stock Check after Friday’s night’s Gameweek 2 opener.

On the Rise

Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Friday’s Gameweek opener has made it almost impossible to ignore him.

While his performances have hardly been vintage, Ibrahimovic’s ability to score goals has been in evidence from the get-go and his impact devastating.

Paul Pogba’s arrival as the legs and possession winner in midfield has almost enabled the Swede to settle in the role he does best – now he can almost afford to drift in and out of the game, cropping up to provide moments of quality in the box where it matters.

Already the most transferred in tonight, it’s Hull City up next and the international break gap – multiple price rises look assured.

Luke Shaw
Just as Antonio Valencia looked to have the advantage, Shaw responded with a barnstorming display down the left. The assist for United’s penalty compounded an impressive display.
Again Pogba could be the influence here. Lining up on the left side of the double pivot, his ability to dominate possession could now see the power swing to the left side and promote Shaw as the choice full-back.

However, Valencia was just three behind Shaw in the Bonus Point System, despite his assist. We will continue to monitor but for now, Valencia remains our choice.

Paul Pogba
It was obvious that Pogba’s energy lifted United and brought the best out of those around him – it’s perhaps less obvious how the Frenchman will rate as a Fantasy asset.

He had more touches than any other player, he had more attempts on goal than any other United player but we need more time to see if that translates to returns to justify the 8.5 outlay.

In Decline

Wayne Rooney
Whilst Rooney chipped in with the assist for Ibrahimovic’s opener, when the Swede took the ball to stroke home United’s second, the skipper’s fate was sealed. The 2.5 price difference was tempting but Ibrahimovic has already made his mark, leaving Rooney playing second fiddle now and, most likely, throughout the season.

Notably, it’s also been Rooney, not the Swede who has been withdrawn in both league outings late on.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

But if Kane scores a hattrick and Aguero gets injured you'll be in trouble. For 0.1 just wait.

In addition to the above both Tadic and Redmond looked good and worth keeping. Saints defence not so great and they will concede heavily if Fonte goes to United.

Hojbjerg looks a good signing for Saints but plays very deep so not a great pick despite price

He had two assist attempts late in the game and scored well on bps.

I'm hoping he's the surprise transfer success. He's under the radar and only 4.5.

If I was wildcarding who would you suggest as a 4.5m replacement then?

    Done Vardy/Gray > Ibra/Dio for free

Didn't do it for the points as I think Vardy might outscore Ibra in GW3, did it solely because of the price swing. +0.4 overnight and Ibra surely rising again before GW3 makes this a no brainer. Team Value will be essential later on in the season when big hitters like KDB, Ozil, Alexis, Payet etc. get going. Not convinced we can go all season relying on the likes of Redmond, Gaston etc.

Feels good to have 8 potential risers and zero fallers tonight!

Had a goal disallowed for off side, a couple of hopeful efforts from in and around the edge of the box. Still looks the most creative in the team, although I thought Redmond looked sharper tonight. To be fair United defended pretty well for the most part so not the best game to judge him on

He wasn't great. Missed a half decent chance and took a few long shots, none of which were close to being on target. But he did see a lot of the ball and he was always near the action when Southampton went forward. United played very well though, so tough to judge.

I'm not sure. Cazorla is a really tricky one, a great option when in advanced positions bit as he can play multiple positions he'll be deep quite frequently, particularly when Ozil returns. Heavily reliant on set-pieces for returns, as a result, but they are sustainable in a high volume attack like Arsenal.

Santi will do well with Ramsey out and Ozil not fit enough. It could be a short term move though. Should be a good punt for the next 2-3 GWs though. I'd do it.If he gets dropped when Arsenal have a complete sqad, you'll have more info about the good mid priced options.

Yeah, I figure Ibra will rise 0.3 this week, and long/Gray drop at least 0.1.

That much team value matters imho. I'll probably play my WC over the international break, and I don't want to have to pay 11.8 mil for Ibra if he does 10pts+ against Hull!

I'd definitely want to be rid of one of them. Don't think having two 6.5m forwards is the way to go and both will drop soon.

Feel like you went with Sanchez so show some conviction to the pick? Factoring the price rise of Ibra though a lot will be shipping him straight in.

I just gave in and brought Zlatan in for Vardy...why didn't I just keep it that way from the start instead of fiddling with my team before GW1. Sigh...

Mahrez, Gray, Fletcher > Barkeley, Rondon, Townsend?

Just early speculation. I have 2 fts so it'd only cost 4 points.

until 30 seconds ago it was Vardy.

          Now it's Rondon

Thoughts on Kelvin Benjamin this year, dude? And will Devin Funchess meet the hype?

Cant wait to get kelvin back. Last year we made the SB with essentially no offence so anything him and Funchess can do to helpshould just push us further. Funchess catching ability is a concern but i think his height makes up for his inadequacies.

        You a big fan parm?

Love NFL, don't follow a team just yet though.

I've got a fantasy draft coming up next weekend so doing some research right now.
