Line-Up Lessons – Gameweek 1 – Part Two

Manchester City retain a three-man defence, while United revert to a back four as both secure opening day victories. Spurs blood youngster Kyle Walker-Peters in a convincing win at Newcastle United, who have plenty of injury and suspension issues to deal with.

We published the lessons learned from the first ten teamsheets of the new season here, and now round up the rest from a goal-strewn Gameweek 1.

Manchester City

Starting XI: Ederson; Kompany, Stones, Otamendi; Fernandinho, Walker, De Bruyne, Silva, Danilo (Sane 68); Aguero (Bernardo Silva 83), Jesus (Sterling 78). Subs not used: Bravo, Mangala, Toure, Foden.

  • What we saw: City boss Pep Guardiola kept faith in the 3-3-2-2 formation he favoured through pre-season, with David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne operating just in front of holding midfielder Fernandinho and wing-backs Kyle Walker and Danilo. Leroy Sane replaced Danilo after the break, while Raheem Sterling played as a forward when he entered the fray.
  • What we learned: While history tells us that Guardiola will tweak, he spoke post-match on how he expects to retain the formation for now. With Everton up next, the City manager seems unlikely to opt for the more attacking Sane at wing-back. Benjamin Mendy and Ilkay Gundogan are close to returning to contention and have been included in City’s squad for a midweek friendly clash with Girona but neither would seem unlikely to immediately break into the starting XI.

Current Status: Very Settled
Risk Areas: Left wing-back

Manchester United

Starting XI: De Gea; Valencia, Jones, Bailly, Blind; Matic, Pogba; Rashford (Martial 80), Mata (Fellaini 77), Mkhitaryan (Lingard 88); Lukaku. Subs not used: Smalllng, Romero, Herrera, Darmian.

  • What we saw: Jose Mourinho decided to opt for an attacking 4-2-3-1 formation against West Ham United, with Juan Mata joining Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Marcus Rashford in the attacking midfield trio. Daley Blind was preferred to Matteo Darmian at left-back while, as expected, Phil Jones got the nod over Victor Lindelof to partner Eric Bailly in central defence.
  • What we learned: The emphatic 4-0 victory suggests that Mourinho may continue to deploy the 4-2-3-1 against weaker opponents, with the 4-3-3 – with Ander Herrera looks a likely starter – perhaps only to be used in more testing fixtures. The United boss did finish this match in that system, though, with Marouane Fellaini joining Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba in central midfield. Anthony Martial impressed off the bench with a goal and an assist, but Rashford will be expected to retain his place for Saturday’s trip to Swansea City. Mourinho could adopt a “horses for courses” approach at left-back, with Darmian remaining a viable alternative to Blind for away matches. Lindelof was in the stands and will not be rushed into Premier League action, promoting Jones (5.0) as a cut-price route in the Red Devils’ backline.

Current Status: Settled
Risk Areas: Left-back, central midfield, left wing

Newcastle United

Starting XI: Elliot; Dummett (Lascelles 7), Clark, Lejeune (Mbemba 34), Manquillo; Hayden, Shelvey, Atsu, Perez; Ritchie, Gayle (Merino 76). Subs not used: Murphy, Aarons, Darlow, Mitrovic.

  • What we saw: Rafa Benitez stuck with his favoured 4-2-3-1, with fit-again Dwight Gayle chosen to start as the lone striker ahead of Aleksandar Mitrovic, who had impressed in pre-season.
  • What we learned: Newcastle suffered two defensive injuries during the first half, with Paul Dummett sustaining a hamstring injury, while Florian Lejeune was forced off with a knee problem. Early reports suggested the Wales international could be sidelined for two weeks, with the prognosis for Lejeune yet to be disclosed. Ciaran Clark moved to left-back on Sunday, while Jamaal Lascelles and Chancel Mbemba combined in central defence. Those three, along with Javier Manquillo, may have to start at Huddersfield Town on Sunday if there is more bad news regarding Lejeune. In central midfield, Mikel Merino is set to replace the suspended Shelvey.

Current Status: Slightly Unsettled
Risk Areas: Defence, central midfield

Southampton

Starting XI: Forster; Cedric Soares, Stephens, Yoshida, Bertrand (McQueen 86); Davis, Romeu; Ward-Prowse (Boufal 71), Tadic, Redmond, Gabbiadini (Austin 69). Subs not used: Taylor, Bednarek, Lemina, Long.

  • What we saw: New Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino went with his favoured 4-2-3-1 for the home clash against Swansea City, with Cedric Soares fit enough to start at right-back ahead of Jeremy Pied. Manolo Gabbiadini was, as expected, preferred to Charlie Austin for the lone striker role.
  • What we learned: After failing to score despite creating plenty of chances, it’s in the attacking positions where Pellegrino is most likely to consider making personnel changes for the visit of West Ham United. Austin will surely push to replace Gabbiadini, with Sofiane Boufal an alternative in the attacking midfield positions. New signing Mario Lamina could also vie for a place in centre midfield, with Steven Davis at risk.

Current Status: Settled
Risk Areas: Central midfield, lone striker

Stoke City

Starting XI: Butland; Cameron, Shawcross, Zouma; Diouf, Fletcher, Allen, Pieters; Shaqiri, Berahino (Choupo-Moting 72), Bojan (Crouch 72). Subs not used: Grant, Johnson, Tymon, Adam, Sobhi.

  • What we saw: Mark Hughes opted for a 3-4-2-1 formation against Everton, with Bojan shaking off a knock to start alongside Xherdan Shaqiri in the attacking midfield spots. Mame Biram Diouf operated as the right wing-back, with Glen Johnson missing out.
  • What we learned: The lack of a cutting edge for the Potters means Hughes may well consider a change in system for Saturday’s home opener against Arsenal. Peter Crouch is the obvious alternative in attack, while he could also play alongside Saido Berahino in a front two, with Bojan making way. Wide man Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting made a promising Stoke debut off the bench and could also threaten Bojan’s start. In defence, Bruno Martins-Indi should come into contention, most likely in place of Geoff Cameron. The American is also an option in central midfield, potentially freeing up Joe Allen for a more advanced role.

Current Status: Slightly Unsettled
Risk Areas: Central defenders, central midfield, attacking midfield, strikers

Swansea City

Starting XI: Fabianski; Naughton, Fernandez, Mawson, Olsson; Britton (Fulton 74), Fer, Carroll; Routledge (McBurnie 86), Ayew; Abraham (Bartley 81). Subs not used: Nordfeldt, Narsingh, Rangel, Mesa.

  • What we saw: Swans head coach Paul Clement kept faith in the midfield diamond that was so successful during the final month of last season, with Wayne Routledge stationed at the tip behind the front pairing of Tammy Abraham and Jordan Ayew.
  • What we learned: Until Clement is able to bring in new faces once the protracted move of Gylfi Sigurdsson to Everton is completed, he looks set to favour the 4-1-2-1-2 system. He has admitted that Roque Mesa may need time to adjust to the pace of English football, so changes appear unlikely for Saturday’s home meeting with Man United. Striker Fernando Llorente (arm) is unlikely to be available.

Current Status: Settled
Risk Areas: Central midfield

Tottenham Hotspur

Starting XI: Lloris; Davies, Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Walker-Peters; Dembele (Winks 90), Dier, Sissoko (Son Heung-min 58); Eriksen, Alli (Wanyama 82), Kane. Subs not used: Janssen, Vorm, Wimmer, Carter-Vickers.

  • What we saw: Mauricio Pochettino sprung one surprise with his team selection for the trip to Newcastle United, with youngster Kyle Walker-Peters named at right-back. The Spurs boss opted for a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Moussa Sissoko joining Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen in a fluid attacking midfield trio.
  • What we learned: While the 4-2-3-1 system worked well at St James’ Park, Pochettino could equally switch to a 3-4-2-1 for the home clash against Chelsea. Victor Wanyama has had a niggle during pre-season but could be ready to start against the Blues, allowing Eric Dier to drop into a back three. Alternatively, the fit-again Son Heung-min may be an option to replace Sissoko in a 4-2-3-1, with Walker-Peters keeping his place at right-back if Kieran Trippier fails to recover from his ankle injury.

Current Status: Fairly Settled
Risk Areas: Right-back, central defenders, central midfield, flanks

Watford

Starting XI: Gomes; Janmaat (Femenia 18), Kaboul, Britos, Holebas; Doucoure, Chalobah; Amrabat, Cleverley, Pereyra (Richarlison 49); Okaka (Gray 63). Subs not used: Pantilimon, Prodl, Capoue, Watson.

  • What we saw: New Hornets head coach Marco Silva went with his favoured 4-2-3-1 formation against Liverpool, with Stefano Okaka chosen to lead the line. Andre Gray only appeared off the bench after joining midway through last week, while Troy Deeney (groin) missed out. Younes Kaboul and Miguel Britos were favoured in central defence at the expense of the benched Sebastian Prodl.
  • What we learned: Watford suffered two injuries on Saturday. Daryl Janmaat was forced off with a knock, while Roberto Pereyra suffered a groin injury. Substitutes Kiko Femenia and Richarlison both did reasonably well when introduced and are the likely replacements if required for Saturday’s trip to Bournemouth. Gray may push for a start, but Okaka’s strong performance could mean he keeps his place, even if Deeney is available.

Current Status: Fairly Settled
Risk Areas: Right-back, left wing, lone striker.

West Bromwich Albion

Starting XI: Foster; Nyom, Dawson, Hegazi, Brunt; Yacob; Phillips (Robson-Kanu 72), Livermore, Field (Harper 70), McClean; Rodriguez (Rondon 87). Subs not used: Myhill, Chadli, Leko, Wilson.

  • What we saw: Baggies head coach Tony Pulis opted for a 4-1-4-1 formation against Bournemouth, with youngster Sam Field earning a start alongside Jake Livermore in central midfield. Jay Rodriguez was deployed as the lone striker, while Jonny Evans missed out with a slight hamstring problem. That meant that Craig Dawson started next to Ahmed Hegazi in central defence, with Allan Nyom and Chris Brunt occupying the full-back spots.
  • What we learned: Rodriguez impressed as the lone striker before moving to the right late on. Salomon Rondon’s stock suffered a severe dent, with Hal Robson-Kanu also brought on before the Venezuelan. Nacer Chadli, meanwhile, was an unused substitute and is being linked with a move to Swansea City. If Evans is fit for Saturday’s trip to Burnley, Pulis faces a tough decision on who to leave out in defence, with one of Nyom or Brunt perhaps most at risk, although the latter would seem likely to be moved into midfield, perhaps at the expense of Field or James McClean.

Current Status: Fairly Settled
Risk Areas: Defence, left wing

West Ham United

Starting XI: Hart; Zabaleta, Reid, Ogbonna, Masuaku (Cresswell 81); Obiang, Noble (Rice 61); Ayew, Fernandes (Sakho 60) Arnautovic; Hernandez. Subs not used: Fonte, Adrian, Collins, Byram.

  • What we saw: Hammers boss Slaven Bilic decided upon a 4-2-3-1 formation for the trip to Old Trafford, with Edimilson Fernandes used in the central attacking midfield role. Having had an injury during pre-season, Aaron Cresswell only featured as a substitute, with Arthur Masuaku starting at left-back. Angelo Ogbonna was favoured over Jose Fonte in central defence. Bilic decided to throw caution to the wind with his side trailing 2-0, bringing on Diafra Sakho for Fernandes as West Ham switched to an attacking 4-4-2.
  • What we learned: The struggles of Javier Hernandez as the lone striker could persuade Bilic to opt for a different approach for Saturday’s trip to Southampton, as we saw when Sakho was introduced for the final half hour. Michail Antonio got a run-out for the U23s last Friday and will be in contention to feature at St. Mary’s, either in the attacking midfield spots or even as a partner for Chicharito. Bilic has also indicated that both Manuel Lanzini and Andy Carroll are closing in on returns. Cresswell could also push for a start in place of Masuaku at left-back, while Fonte is a viable alternative at centre-back.

Current Status: Unsettled
Risk Areas: Left-back, centre-back, attacking midfield, forwards

i think a more appropriate question for me is can he survive a drop

0.1 drop is as good as 0.5 for the 1st few weeks

I changed my captain from Lukaku to Jesus at the last moment and still ended up with 84 points, so pretty happy (Hegazi, Lukaku, Firmino, Alli, Davies, Stephens and DDG all helped out).

That is certainly a reason to be happy. To be honest I was left feeling a little deflated by how little effect Lukaku's haul had on my OR.

Sprelliot in goal. Kane C. Iwobi. Top heavy forwards. Double City attack (the two who blanked) No Pool attack. 4 players booked. Tried to be different, was different alright. Just under 3m rank, out of LMS by 1 point and now committed to an early wildcard plus fixing Iwobi now. Oh and West Ham look absolutely terrible.

Well, the funniest thing is that during the process of forming Team, so many players went in or out of the Team, we shuffled a lot...almost all goal scores were in my Team at some point...and that inevitable regret: "I knew, shouldn't have sold him!"
KDB and Jesus were only players in my Team that didn't deliver...but they could...and they will!

It was going pretty well until 5 o'clock on Saturday. I was scoring consistently. However, my 3 big hitters up front (Lacazette, Kane and Jesus) managed 8 points between them (9 with Captain Kane) while I watched everyone else captain Lukaku. That was annoying. I'm sticking with my team as I got no injuries or RCs and I'm confident my strikers will deliver sonner or later. Another week like that though and it's easy enough to get lukaku and Vardy/Firmino.

        Made 4 last minute changes;

Foster, Stones, Salah and Tammy to Hart, Dawson, Redmond and Firmino.

Reasoning was the uncertainty of Stones starting, Salah coming from a new league and Tammy being able to make the step up to the PL.

Rough - Should have stuck with Foster and Stones
        Smooth - Firmino!

        Iwobi dead. Zaha injured.

But had Hegazi + Foster + Stephens + Yoshi, Salah + Firm + Lukaku which gave me a killler start to the competition at 92 points all in.

Will need to take hits this week. Willian or Ramsey in for Zaha today. Mooy for Iwobi is done.

We have a paid minileague for friends in Sweden and Norway, £50 each (and £50 extra for who ever comes last), 142 participants.

One norwigan member (id: 2432978), took a mad punt and used his triple captain on GW1. And you probably already guessed it, he captained Cahill. Not a great start.
Don't know if it's impressive or sad that he didn't come last.

Scoutcast Question - Best captaincy for this gameweek? Lukaku? (good fixture but away from home against a side that just kept a clean up) Kane? (excellent London derby record but playing Chelsea needing a result)? KDB? (reasonable fixture but difficult to predict when he'll earn points) Or someone else?

A shocker. Zaha, Tadic, Kane, Jesus and KDB all blanked. All but KDB could have come away with double figures on another day. Also captained Kane over Lukaku, and no Liverpool attack.

3 clean sheets the only minor smooth!

A week of smooths - Clean sweep of defensive returns (DDG, Valencia, Bertrand, Dawson, Danilo) + Salah, Lacazette, Willian + Lukaku (C)

A pathetic rough - GW1 punt on Mirallas after his preseason goal

All in all, my best ever GW1 score. Although admittedly, my first GW1 score in 3 seasons of FPL.

smooth: 99pts. Defence: Bavies, Hegazi, Stephens 35pts (seriously think that's more than I got in 1st 4 GWs last year)
        Double Liverpool (Firmino& Salah)
        Lukaku (c)

Rough: Double Man city (KDB & Jesus) but not worried as they'll soon return pts.

How difficult is it going to be balancing mids & forwards this season?
A relative abundance of high priced forwards all looking capable of producing pts means an expensive forward line seems essential. But a real lack of mid options 7m & less which (if you take the high priced front 3) will proably be your 3rd & 4th mids.
All this before Sanchez & Hazard enter the equation.

With Lukaku in pretty much all my drafts, and Kane in some, I decided to go without either. I figured Mourinho would be happy to grind out 1 nil wins and was swayed by Spurs' tendency to come dawdling out of the blocks.

Smooths: Got off to a great start with Salah and Firmino double-figure hauls. Defensive full-house with cleansheets all-round (double Saints, Danilo and DDG). Eriksen double assist.

Roughs: Zaha blank and injury; Gabbi blank (will I never learn??); KDB and Jesus (c) blanks.

Having survived until the very last game, I watched the United game from behind a cushion. It was painful and turned a very good week into a distinctly average one.

Along with De Gea and Matic I ended on 50 points.

        SMOOTH-
59 this week which was the best start among my last 3 season.

        ROUGH-
        1) Captained Jesus

        2) My mini-league rival randomly asked me for a 5.5m def suggestion. And, I said someone I didn't have. So, he took my word and kept him. I felt feverish watching the Spurs match. Btw, it was Ben Davies.

Everything went pretty smoothly for me in week 1.

Sure, Kane and J-Rod could have done better, and captain Lukaku maybe could have got 3 instead of 2, but my starting back 5 returned 4 clean sheets, Willian grabbed an assist and Pogba a goal.

Only question mark going forward is Danilo, who I may need to shift if he’s a rotation threat, but got lucky with him during the first week.

Rough; finding out Fri eve after the deadline that Pedro was out. I'd switched Sane and Willian for Pedro and Zaha on Thursday with the intention of saving a transfer later on! Kane(c), no Lukaku, Jesus unlucky too.

Smooth; Faith in Pogba paying off, and Firmino who I nearly didn't start with but decided I needed some Liverpool and he was the cheapest. Points off all the defence; Foster, Baily, Bertrand & Kolasanic.

55 and only 3 down on my Pedro blunder with Carroll subbing in. Better than last years 30 odd with double Pulis shut-outs staring at me on the bench.

5 at the back: all defenders (+ GK) returned except Alonso. Ben Davies getting the biggest haul in the team.

Iwobi didn't start. RLC autosubbed for 2pts.

Rough: switched Hegazi to double up on saints defence. Only one forward scored. Switched Salah to KDB for ManC coverage.

My roughs may pay off in the long term though. Let's wait and see, but Hegazi likely going to be the thorn in my side.

David Silva looks more consistent and with KDB you have the occasional big hauls. + Silva cheaper.

Does this make Silva the best way into the City midfield or is it beter to look to other options of other teams?

        1) Can maverick Luke talk us through his template busting team?

        2) Should we double up on the Liverpool or Manchester United attack?

        3) Are you having second thoughts about anyone in your team?

        4) Do we finally have a decent amount of choice in the cheap third striker bracket?

        5) Has Ake broken the Bonus points system?

        6) Have Manchester united taken the handbrake off?

        7) Can Lukaku be trusted with the armband away from home?

        8) How much can we know about a player after just one game? Can knee jerking ever be justified?

        9) Do you now understand the pain of owning Gabbiadini?

        10) For the vast majority of last season, none of you owned KDB. What has changed this season?

        11) How was Jonty able to predict almost everything that happened in GW1 in this article http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2017/06/29/a-good-start-in-fpl-lessons-learnt-from-201617/ ?

        12) Alonso looked very dangerous against Burnley and it looks like nothing has changed from last season. Do we need to make plans to get him into our teams ASAP?

Too early to write anyone off after a single blank, but a suspension and a possibly serious injury is a different matter - and the alternatives (apart from Willian) do not really appeal.

Willian assist, Ramsey goal - they are doing well.

But also good as there are lots of interesting emerging 5-6 options - Mooy for the dullard in particular, Atsu for the mavericks 🙂

              Zaha injured, Fabregas sent off.

Ramsey still looks good granted if he gets regular starts but Willian is quite a short term pick still, nice assist for owners GW1.

Its a mixed bag, but at only 7.0m you aren't really buying consistency. Hazard predicted to be out until September 16th, so that gives Willian owners 4-5 Gameweeks of service at least. I don't think its too much of an issue as long as you have an exit strategy in place for him.

Yeah exactly 🙂 Hopefully by then we will have enough information to be able to make a wise choice on who to replace him with too. GW6 begins a good run of fixtures for arsenal and Everton, Ramsey and Klaasen, for example, my be nice players to switch onto at this point, for a similar price.

Willian was Chelsea POTY 2 seasons ago and for me he's a better player than Pedro just needs to be given an extended run in the team.

Are we all rushing to conclusions and looking to say "theories have been proven" after 1 week?

Chelsea down to 10 men early on meant a totally different game than we for the most part expected. This doesn't make Alonso "a bad pick" or means you should look to take out Willian. Wouldn't put it past a 0-0 on Sunday at Wembley which leads me to.....

Kane doesn't score again in August. Yeah true - granted I always apply the Lukaku vs West Ham theory - which is ground in the same simplistic terms. But do you really think that August has a hex on Prince Harry?

We picked teams not based on GW1 but with some planning at least towards GW4. So surely we sit tight on GW2 and trust our initial instincts allowing for a bit of flexibility when making the transfers for GW3 if need be.

We need to see the form take shape first to jump on any bandwagons. GW1 isn't enough.

        Price rises/falls be damned.

How can Gary Cahil, who is staring down the barrel of a 3 game ban and has been dumped by nearly 200,000 (roughly 30% of his ownership 620,000 players not have decreased? Likewise, but to a lesser extent Fabregas! Yet Iwobi wh has only got the chop from 28,000 players, which would equate to 20% of his 128k GW 1 ownership has dropped in value? Please discuss.

Seeing how Spurs full backs are again very underpriced, why not double up? Bavies has been great attacking wise since the end of last season and it doesn't look Rose will displace him. Trippier will be back soon probably at 5.4 as well. Tempted by this as a Zaha owner and not wowed by current 7m options. Downgrading Zaha to a 5.5 or 6m player and upgrading a 4.5 defender to Trippier could be a masterstroke.

If Zaha is confirmed injured, that now messes the plan of saving a FT. Is it wise to drop him to a RLC or similar to bank the money this week and then for GW 3, have options to upgrade Lacazette or Gabriel Jesus for example to Kane without taking a hit? So in a way, still going with the original plan in a round about way.
Or is that just too complicated get willian now, b prepared to take a hit to have options next week?

Who of game week 1's disappointments should we keep faith with?

For example, I own Alonso (0), De Bruyne (3), Zaha (2), Kane (1) and Jesus (1) who all performed poorly and there's immediate pressure on me to ditch to male way for a Liverpool attacker. Should I?

I should add that when I say performed poorly I mean regarding FPL points. I was impressed by Alonso, Jesus and Kane who could have easily scored more. My problem (as i also own Lukaku) is that I don't have a Liverpool attacker. Is a Liverpool attacker more important than anyone I've mentioned?

Extremely small sample sizes (1 game!), but this new City team might not be great for KDB in open play, a great deal of the play seemed to go through him in the first half and start of the second, but not the final ball (The Nasri role). Also with both Silva's on the pitch he seemed even less involved.

Do the stats back this up, and is it worth keeping an eye on?

Obviously would still be a threat from set piece delivery, but potentially not worth the 10m outlay.

(trying to stick to the plan of City over Spurs attack until GW3)

        1. How valuable is Abraham with the return of Llorente on the horizon?
        2. What player on LIV benefits most (in fantasy points) from a Coutinho departure?
        3. If Man utd chokes at Swansea (e.g. lose 1-0), what players will plummet in value?
        4. What's the value of being that player that waits on the edge of the box for cleared corners (noticed Propper had 2 good shooting chances from that position)?

Scrolling though the teams in my mini league to see if anyone has made any transfers, and in one team in my league it says:
        gameweek transfers 0
        total transfers 3
Does this mean that the player has activated his free hit chip?
If the player had hit wildcard it wouldn't tell you how many transfers had been used:
        gameweek transfers 0
        total transfers 0
If the player had done 3 transfers (-8) it would say:
        gameweek transfers 3
        total transfers 3
As free hit is a new chip i suppose nobody has this information?

I think I made the wrong decision of going with KDB.

Alli & Eriksen both have outscored him the past 2 seasons, are cheaper, more nailed and play a more attacking role in their teams specially in 3-4-3.

Now hopefully KDB can prove me wrong this week because if he doesn't I'll be getting rid of him for Eriksen as he's a very good differential in my ML!

Valid points but I feel like I need City coverage. I'm not prepared to sacrifice Kane or Lukaku up front, Jesus you can just barely squeeze in as a third striker without completely ruining your team but Aguero is impossible. KdB it is, then.

Agree, worth holding him to see whilst Spurs play Chelsea anyway, but will consider shifting him on for that Burnley fixture in GW3. Problem is it's hard to afford Jesus when you have a Kane Kaku Mounie frontline

Kdb covered 3 points this week.

              Alli - 8
              Eriksen - 12
              Salah - 11
              Mane - 6

Let's see next week now. If he fails next week he's out for me.
Even I was worried about coverage but that was the wrong decision.

In my mind KDB did not do much last season yet was one of the highest midfield scorers so when he does kick on and add more goals to his game, he will explode, I feel he will be in the top 3 midfield scoring points at the end of the season.

Have faith, he is also on every set piece. With Son to come back and Kane still to gain some points, Ali and Eriksen will settle in to a steady points scoring routine and I think KDB will outscore them both.

        Top 3 midfield season predictions:

        1. Mane
        2. KDB
        3.Salah

Simple question aguero or lukaku ?

      Already have Kane & Firmino

I think lukaku as Jesus will take some of aguero points and aguero may spend time on the bench.

But going without aguero on fantasy football just seems crazy with man city going to score a bucket load this season.

P.s I have aguero at the moment but going to transfer him out for lukaku before price raise

Your post was more of a statement than a question. Lukaku and Salah were two players I never removed from my team pre-season. Both rewarded my loyalty so I will say Lukaku over Aguero. He's Man United's main man and I need time to see who's the best option in Citeh's attack, so for now I'm on KdB

I wouldn't call him very reliable, but certainly not a hack, wouldn't say it unless he had genuinely heard it. So probably true 🙁

I suspect Mourinho has designated two separate CB pairings for PL and CL/Cup matches. During preseason, he specifically only partnered Bailly/Jones and Smalling/Lindelof. We'll have to wait for CL to start to confirm this, but it would make sense if this is the plan. Although it is rather poor planning to never trial a Bailly/Lindelof partnership imo considering everyone knows Jones is injury prone and can't be trusted at all to play all 38 games

I still think Bailly/Lindelof are the first choice pairing long term, waters are just muddied by Euro suspensions at the moment.

we are also likely to see three CB formations.
