Dugout Discussion – Wednesday

The penultimate fixture of the packed festive schedule gets underway at 7.45pm as Arsenal and Chelsea go head-to-head at the Emirates.

For the hosts, Alexis Sanchez has upped his output in recent weeks – after a slow start to the season, last term’s top scoring player in Fantasy Premier League has delivered points in seven of his last 10 league appearances.

That form suggest that the Chilean is likely to pose the main danger to a defence that’s conceded just four times in their previous 11.

Nonetheless, it’s Alexandre Lacazette who is the Gunners’ most captained player for Gameweek 22, handed the armband by 2.02%.

The Frenchman has been a consistent source of points at home, producing a goal or assist in seven of his 10 appearances, but he’s struggled for a cutting edge of late and failed to find the net since Gameweek 15.

A return to form could reignite interest in Lacazette ahead of four kind fixtures (bou CRY swa EVE) in as many Gameweeks.

Despite a run of two goals in the last nine Gameweeks, Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata (3.7%) is the top armband pick for this fixture.

That lack of form means that the Spaniard and team-mate Eden Hazard were among the top five most transferred out players for Gameweek 22, sent packing by 243,000+ and 207,000+ respectively.

Hazard has mustered just a single assist in five yet both he and Morata also have some decent fixtures ahead to arrest their recent declines – over the next five Gameweeks, Antonio Conte’s side host Leicester, Bournemouth and West Brom and also make their way to Brighton and Watford.

Encouragingly for Hazard’s owners, he looks set to return to a central role with the visitors rolling out a 3-5-1-1 formation.

The Gunners, meanwhile, welcome back Mesut Ozil from a minor knee problem, though injuries in defence means that Arsene Wenger is forced to field the likes of Calum Chambers, Rob Holding and Ainsley Maitland-Niles in his starting line-up.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Any strikers offering good value?

Looking for a replacement for Austin? Should I be looking at Andy Carrol?

I will be playing 3-5-2 mostly

Somewhere between 4.5-8.5m nobody really stands out as an option in my second striker spot

If I could find somebody at 5.4 I have enough funds to upgrade Courtinho to hazard

I have funds to make one transfer on a free. Which one should i prioritize?

    A) RLC -> Lingard, play 3-5-2 means benching 2 4.5 defenders almost every week
    B) Christensen -> Alonso, play 4-4-2 while rotating the 4.5 defenders

  10. Time to break free of Salah?
    Salarrivederci
    • 8 Years
    6 years, 10 months ago

Has the time finally come to ditch Salah and break free from the flock?
I want to point out, that this first and foremost addresses the 9% of the managers who got rid of Salah before this GW.

Salah has been incredible so far, but before you ask me to visit the doctor or delete my FPL team let me walk you through my thought process! 😀

    1. Coutinho is leaving.
Alright so people are already getting rid of Coutinho, and with his leave Salah needs to deliver, but it will get harder due to the fact, that Coutinho is such a brilliant player who can pass the ball just right to Salah. Really not much more in it. Without Coutinho I expect Pool to struggle scoring the same amount of goals pr. match. This one is subjective, but I can't be the only one to think that Coutinho is/was vital to the Pool offensive.

    2. Midfielders vs. Forwards.
My second point is more objective 😉 When it comes down to select midfielders and forwards it is much easier to select midfielders than forwards and be happy about it. At the moment Kane, Agüero and Firmino seems to be the 'only' three who we really trust or like. You could argue, that Rooney and Vardy and a few others can prove to be good value, but the way Everton plays and the fact that Vardy does not seem to deliver combined with tough fixtures to come the above mentioned would be the dream forward front 3.
Midfielders on the other hand - well take your pick, and feel happy about it!
KDB, Sane, Sterling, D.Silva, Salah, Hazard, Sanchez, Özil, Son, Alli, Eriksen, Pogba, Lingard, Richarlison, Zaha, Groß, Arnoutovic and so on. The point here is, that it is easier to replace a good midfielder with another good midfielder than to do so with a good forward.

    3. Time to only play with 1 offensive Pool player?
If so then I would argue, that Firmino is more essential than Salah due to previous arguments made. It is much harder to replace Firmino at the moment than Salah due to the slim pickings in the front 3. The reason why I question double/triple Pool attack is simply the fact, that they will sell Coutinho. I don't trust Mane, Firmino and Salah to deliver nearly as much without him. They won't play nearly as fast which would result in more balls in the box, where Firmino is just as great of an asset as Salah? I know this is pushing it a bit since most teams is different, but would you rather have Firmino + 10 mil midfielder OR Salah + 9 mil attacker (provided you will only have 1 offensive Pool player going forward)

    4. 10.0 to get him back after City.
Is he worth it now? You will either need to sell Hazard or prioritize Salah > KDB / Hazard. City won't stop scoring. They are brutal, and I would rather keep Hazard and get KDB or get Sane and upgrade a defender.

Not saying FH, WC and 2 free transfers can't get you Salah back in, but I just tried to make my transfers for the next few weeks, and I kept telling myself, that I should get Salah back in after City, but then it struck me, that I would rather keep Hazard and get KDB in as my third City player, and I would feel as happy as someone not owning 50% ownership Salah could feel. Firmino would be my Pool cover, but my other offensive players would be something like: Sterling, KDB/Sane, Hazard, Son/Lingard, Kane and 1-2 cheapies depending on Son/Lingard and KDB/Sane. (Sane could actually result in this front 8: Sterling, Sané, Hazard, Son, Lingard, Firmino, Kane, DCL)

A mad thought or did I seal my fate after selling Salah before the GW 😀 ?

Ye it is. I would probably get him back on WC for DGW and TC him or something, but at the moment I would rather get KDB and keep Hazard than pay 10.0 to get him back and play with double Pool before I see how they are doing without Coutinho..

I am getting laughed at - I can feel it 😉

I personally wouldn't. Cout leaving I don't think will affect him much as Cout has been injured for most of the season. I know that he's expensive at 10 but he's the leading scorer by over 20 points and is so consistent and explosive that he's worth it. He offers the best value for anyone near that price besides Sterling

Ye I might have put a few names to prove a point, but seriously - who can we get as forwards and feel happy about? Firmino, Agüero and Kane.

The midfield is different. So many good options, and Salah is simply taking a spot. I know about 50 - 99% will disagree calling me mad, but I would rather have Firmino + KDB than Salah + Vardy/Rooney/Firmino (again teams ar different, but those are my options)

What I was trying to say: If I decided to go with only 1 Pool I can either go Salah + 9mil forward or KDB + Firmino?

The "coverage" and "mids vs fwds" stuff is meaningless. You have hazard and kdb in your line up there at salahs price point. I'd back salah over either.

But moving forward I am not sure, that I would like to go 2 Pool attackers which would force me to go Salah + Vardy/Rooney or KDB/Firmino.

Again it is first and foremost for the sellers, but those who did sell now need to get rid of Hazard, ditch the idea of KDB or take -8's to get Salah back in (That's my situation)

This basket wasting coverage nonsense you are hung up on is pointless. Players don't score different depending on how many red shirts are on a random fpl screen.
You are assuming people have hazard and need kdb. Neither is true. I swappes kdb, Salah, Richarlison for eriksen, alli, Arnautovic. I can get salah back with a FT whenever I want. Or kdb or hazard but I want salah because he'll get more points

No I am simply trying to question whether we should on on to double Pool attack now Coutinho is leaving?
If it will affect Firmino and Salahs returns which of those should we hold on to given the alternatives?

Does Firmino + Sane + Lingard look better than Firmino + Salah + Atsu ? That is currently what I am trying to decide. And if I decide to only go with 1 Pool player could Sterling, KDB/Sane, Hazard, Son, Atsu/Lingard be my best option?

I just think Firmino is one of the best strikers to have in your team due to lack of alternatives. Salah at 10? I can replace him if I decide to go with 1 Pool attacker, and if I decide it's worth the risk to trust Sane/KDB/Lingard over the next few weeks.

Salah is more critical than Hazard or KdB currently. This could all change. But for me Salah and Sterling are a must in midfield.

I realize that Salah has been the greatest FPL player this season, and thank god I owned him most weeks, but I could see/hope KDB/Hazard outscoring him in the next 6 weeks. Remember I now have to pay 10.0 to get him back. I know he did great without Coutinho, but I do honestly think Coutinho leaving will influence his future points.

"..and I kept telling myself, that I should get Salah back in after City, but then it struck me, that I would rather keep Hazard.."

Were you thinking that way before Hazard scored today?

This. Hazard reference is bonkers. 43pts in last 9. I use 9 as 9AL (after Lingard)

I like the fact that mere 8% owns Hazard and 50% owns Salah. I can either make the template team and stay in top 50K or try to push it for the win and glory? 😉 What's so wrong about that? Hazard and Salah are almost same price now that I sold Salah. Hazard have nice fixtures and takes pens. I don't mind owning him > Salah tbh.

              Haha 😉 Sorry.

No my plan was to either take a hit to get Salah back for Eriksen or downgrade Hazard. However Hazard is my way into top 10K (whether I like it or not) 😉 8% ownership. If he can outscore Salah over the next few weeks it will be gold.
And now I simply consider KDB/Sane > Salah (Sane would mak me able of Atsu -> Lingard)

Or KDB to outscore Salah. Plan was to either do Hazard > Salah next week or to tae a hit and do Eriksen -> Salah. Now I consider Eriksen -> Sane and Atsu -> Lingard (completly ignoring Salah) or do Eriksen -> KDB (-4)

Kdb and hazard certainly have it in them to outscore him. Still seems unlikely to me. Salah is a goal machine and klopps system is designed to maximise his chances. I don't see anyone on par with salah and Kane so I'll keep the differentials for other positions

Yes, and he was great when Coutinho had a that 'back problem' 😛 But Coutinho really add something to that offense, and I just fear that Salah will miss out on some points (not all but some). And at the moment I can either my choice is: KDB - Atsu - Firmino OR Salah - Atsu - Firmino OR Sane - Lingard - Firmino. Due to the fact I want to hold on to Hazard and not using WC or taking more than -4.

thats exactly it, people worry too much about trying to break away from the template, however the key is about making the differentials elsewhere, in the other positions.....going too much away from the template is suicide

I remember some seasons back when Ronaldo cost 14.0. Everyone had him, but I was too adamant saying that he is just too expensive for one man, and was pretty sure i could match his output with 2 or 3 good players, the likes of Lampard & Gerrard. That was my worst season in FPL.

Watching Salah play u know he is going to get a goal anytime soon with the kind of runs he makes and the chances he gets. I will keep Salah. Thank you very much.

Fair point, but you did not sell him either. Those of us who did sell Salah before the GW is in a different situation. He is now worth the same as KDB. Or could be Sané + Alonso > Salah + Christensen just to give an example.

9% of all the players did sell him tbefore the GW 😉 That is 500.000 - sure someone is now wondering what the heck to do besides me 😀

        1. Coutinho (might be) leaving

Here's Salah's record where Coutinho has missed games:

        GW1 - Watford (a) - 1 goal, 1 assist (11 points)
        GW2 - Palace (h) - 1 point - 29 minutes played
        GW3 - Arsenal (h) - 1 goal, 1 assist (11 points)
        GW4 - Man City (a) - 1 point- 45 minutes played
        GW10 - Hud (h) - 1 assist (4 points) - he missed a penalty this game
        GW11 - West Ham (a) - 2 goals (15 points)
        GW14 - Stoke (a) - 2 goals (13 points)
        GW16 - Eve (h) - 1 goal (11 points) - Coutinho played for 12 minutes in this game

        67 total points in 8 games = 8.4 ppg

        2. Midfielders v Forwards

It's true, there are lots of midfielders to choose from which is why 3-5-2 is back in fashion. One of the best is Mo Salah 🙂

        3. Time to play with only one Pool player

        See point 1 for Salah

        For Firmino:

        GW1 - Watford (a) - 1 goal, 1 assist (12 points)
        GW2 - Palace (h) - 2 points
        GW3 - Arsenal (h) - 1 goal, 1 assist (12 points)
        GW4 - Man City (a) - 2 points
        GW10 - Hud (h) - 1 goal (8 points)
        GW11 - West Ham (a) - 2 points
        GW14 - Stoke (a) - 2 points
        GW16 - Eve (h) - 1 point (23 minutes played)

        43 points in 8 games = 5.3ppg

Not as good as Salah (to be expected) but it matches up with his 5.2ppm for the season which is only behind Kane and Aguero.

        4. 10.0 to get him back

Well if you sold him this is true and I guess I can see why you'd have to weigh up the options at a similar price.

A lot of us got him for a lot cheaper. My hope is that it was a mistake to sell the best FPL asset of the season so far for what could be just 1 game. Look what happened earlier in the season when people did that.

The hot topic title should be - "Time to break free of Salah if you sold him and are now trying to justify not having to pay a premium for him" 😉

                I have:

                Son - Salah - Sterling - Lingard - Arnautovic

Plan is to stick this week and then think about it next week 🙂

Likelihood is that I'll want to change Son but I may give him the Everton game. Pogba is an option but if he gets put back into the double pivot then he's not such a great option.

This is most likely going to be my midfield for the next few weeks:

Sterling - Sané - Hazard - Son - Lingard (Son -> Mahrez if he moves/after the tougher fixtures)
It is really either Sané + Lingard or Salah/KDB and keep Atsu 😉

Hey Andy. Nice reply - appreciate it!

Due to Salahs points (with/without Coutinho on the pitch & just overall) maths would always call me a madman when I suggest going without Salah? 😉 Stats and maths will kill my argument (at the moment) :), but Salah is only cheaper than Sanchez, Haz and KDB now.. I simply predict Pool & Salah to make fewer ppg without Coutinho.

But if Coutinho leaves I would worry for Pool. I can't deny that I think Salah will get you points, but I also think Hazard, KDB, Sané, Silva, Sanchez/Özil (depending on the transferwindow) could get you points, and it is one of those Salah would potentially push aside.
I just don't know if I want to move forward with 2 pool attackers, and it is just much harder to replace 9.1 Firmino than 10.0 Salah.

I guess I will have to put my money where my mouth is, and in 5 weeks we shall all see how it affected my rank 😉

You're missing the point buddy, Andy has just demonstrated that pool players ppg isn't effected when coutinho is not there so why do you think this will change going forward?

Another reason to not sell Salah is due to pool fan base. An inordinate number of people will be captaining salah in non logical games and getting away with it due to them being fans.

And as I said. I know all the ppg and stats shows I am wrong, but I can't help but feel, that this will change in the upcoming weeks. After watching Coutinho I just think it will be hard to replace him, and that it will effect Firmino/Salah/ Manés future ppg stats. If I thought Salah would keep up returning such a crazy amount of ponts I would not have made this post?

Some is subjective I know that!

I don't really worry much about the ownership and (C) and such. I like owning 8% Hazard as a differential rather than having the template team. I would like to win this, and if my team is: DDG, Jones, Otamendi, Alonso, Salah, Sterling, Lingard, KDB, Groß, Firmino, Kane then I will not win? Simple as that. I am 200 points behind nr.1 and currently 26K OR. Have to make some tough choices at some point - one of them culd be to go without Salah for the next 5-6 weeks? 🙂

I briefly mentioned that above - you've already made your bed at this point so I can see the argument for going without when Hazard isn't too much more expensive for example.

As Ruth points out Hazard does have good fixtures but again last night it was a penalty that saved him, a great game for him (as happens most of the time) but doesn't always translate into points. That being said, penalties is one of the draws for him.

That math is only for what's happened so far. It's not just on the pitch that Coutinho leaving could hurt Liverpool, there's also what kind of an impact it will have on the club as a whole. When you sell arguably your best player it probably doesn't boost morale 🙂

I probably came at this from the hot topic title alone - to answer that I don't think it is time to part with Salah. If you've already done it though it's a different conversation

I did. Brought in Eriksen for this DGW, and now I need to decide what to do in the upcoming weeks 😉 I did state, that this first and foremost addressed those 9% of te managers who got rid (if I had Salah still I would keep him).

It is frustrating owning Hazard, but it is certainly not impossible that he could outscore Salah in the next 5-6 GW's.
And yes - morale is a factor! You sell Coutinho and bring in VvD. If I was Salah and Firmino I know which player I would have wanted to play next to me of those 2 😉

Nice work Andy, I was just about to drill the same figures for games without Coutinho.

Personally I'm sticking. Liverpool are quick in transition and the style suits Salah. His form without Coutinho in the side is still superb so i see no reason to doubt his credentials going forward.

My only other argument was that point 3 is counter-logic. If there are lots of options in midfield, best to invest your money there where injuries and suspensions are easy to manage with the available alternatives. Up front, limited options means you may find a time when two are hard to find because the pool of talent is far smaller and represents worse value.

        OK, a few comments...

You will get pilloried for stuff like this on FFS as I know all too well. Most FFS managers can't stand their certainties being questioned.

Personally I will also prefer Hazard to Salah over the next 5 weeks. They are directly comparable on price now and Hazard has way better fixtures.

Some of your logic is a bit strained but I get what you are trying to say. The forwards really are a problem position right now. I have Firmino too but seeing that 50% of his last 9 or 10 goals have been assisted by Coutinho I fear that he will suffer the most if Coutinho does leave. With Coutinho in the team the creation from deeper areas comes from him and Firmino is able to play more like a striker. Without Coutinho, Firmino tends to drop off into that deeper role and the beneficiaries are Salah and Mané. Mainly Salah so far but I actually think Mané is turning the corner and could quite easily equal Salah's output over the next period.

Anyway... the managers that count up recent points and call that analysis will scoff at your idea (and have). But I think it's quite reasonable. And it would only take one transfer to correct if the tide turns against you. Whereas those that have kept the Salah comfort blanket wrapped around them and think they would lose TV by selling him will probably keep him for too long if the tide turns against them. I'd prefer to be in your position than theirs.

"if the tide turns against them"

It has to be a big if considering his form all season.

I can see why people got rid for the DGW, it's always a big draw but for me I know I'll want him straight back so there was no need to take him out and lose money.

Salah and Hazard are only directly comparable on price if you sold. So yes I can see why people who got rid might not be as keen to get him back, but for those that kept it's not surprising they still think that's the correct course of action. Only time will tell.

          Hey Ruth.

First of all english is my secondary language - I wish I could respond in danish, it would hopefully kill some of the 'strained logic' 😀 And yes I am getting laughed at by making a post like this since all the math and stats tells us, that going without Salah will hurt you big time! 😀

I really like your post and points on Firmino/Mané when Coutinho leaves - certainly food for thought!

Personally I am just not convinced, that I want to double up on Pool attackers any longer, which kinda result in me prioritizing between Firmino + KDB or 9.2 forward + Salah (and since it is such slim pickings in the front 3 I really like the idea of going without Salah should it turn out to be too much investing in double Pool attack)

Ofc I could get him back, and I am not afraid of taking hits either, but at the moment I just fancy Firmino, Sané, Lingard OR Firmino, KDB, Atsu > Firmino, Salah, Atsu 😉 I would like to get that third City playr in my team, and it would cost me -8 to do Firmino -> Agüero and feel happy with my team next GW (and if I were to get Agüero the time is now and not in a few weeks when Jesus is bck and ready) 😉

Hazard and Salah may be almost comparable in price now if you own neither and were making a choice. But that masks their real value for many.

I got Salah for 9.1 for example. Many got him for 9.0. Considering he is consistently outperforming Hazard who costs 1.5m more they are simply not comparable price wise.

Salah for most rmanagers really needs to be compared against the Spurs mids or Ozil. Or even cheaper ones like Mahrez and what that spare money can be used for. To get Hazard in now - or to own him anytime this season would have cost most at least 1m more than Salah - which for some could be well used elsewhere.

In a Salah v Hazard contest due to value and form there is only one winner and its not the Belgian fella.

So, the OP is irrelevant? He is specific that this is about what is best for those that don't own Salah, not those that do. The OP doesn't, neither do I. 🙂

What we then have is a bunch of managers that have kept Salah seeking to justify their view that Salah shouldn't have been sold in the first place. Which is a reasonable point of view, of course, just has nothing to do with the OP.

One of the biggest flaws of FFS is its tendency to suggest that there is a blanket right and wrong about player selection. This leads to words like 'essential' being bandied about when in truth it is rare that any player ever is. Only twice in the season (wildcards) do we start with a clean sheet. The rest of the time we are starting from the squad we currently have.

Hazard's next 5 games: LEI bha BOU wat WBA.
Salah's next 5 games: MCI swa hud TOT sot.

You think it's clear cut which scores the most points? I don't. But I'm perfectly happy to be going in with Hazard in my team and Salah not. It only takes one transfer if I decide that needs changing.

PS. As a matter of interest, I just checked the FFS RMT function. It projects 32 points for Hazard over the next 5 games against 23 for Salah. It's not something I often look at and I never base decisions on it. But it's noteworthy that FFS's objective appraisal is at odds with what you are asserting, Jonty. 😉

RMT said Hazard was going to get that the last five games as well but he didn't. Arguably, quite rightly RMT loves heavy hitters with strong fixtures.

              This.

I focus on the 500.000 managers who sold Salah before the GW. Could we now due to price, transferwindow(-Coutinho), Pool cover(do we really want to double up?), alternatives(midfield vs. forward picks) and so on argue, that Salah is not 'essential', and that Sane +1,5, Hazard, KDB or someone else could step up and give you green arrows in a Salahless team? 🙂

But you're right Jonty. Not much point in doing Salah -> Hazard/KDB now (if you kept Salah) 😉

As you say its not about blanket right or wrong. Same point I was making - for most Salah owners he offers 1m at least extra. That can't be ignored for a player with a 50%+ ownership. So there's no right or wrong, just Salah represents different things and price points to different people.

For the same reasons why it is good to challenge the established view it is also good to take a step back and avoid backing every fresh idea that comes along without scrutiny.

If I had neither now and was wildcarding I'd probably get neither at their current prices and instead go for Mahrez, Sterling, a Spurs mid, Lingard, Arnautovic and focus my Chelsea coverage on Alonso. All about value, form and fixtures. Hazard has the fixtures, but is yet to prove he has the Fantasy form and value compared to others.

Arguably perhaps Salah at 10m doesn't represent value with those fixtures. But for 9m he may well do. No right. No wrong to this. All about each individual manager's set up.

I guess you're right, but it is damn hard to keep track with the 'value game'. To bring in Lingard, Alonso and Mahrez would cost me alot in hits, and I am currently trying to postpone celebrating -100 in hits for as long as I can 😉

Sometimes you just gotta trust a player, and take a chance on another. I've stuck with Hazard for many weeks now (had him since GW8), and I just don't like the idea of ditching him before the next good fixtures. Even due to lack in returns compared to his price. I really like to own 8% Hazard > 50% Salah. That is one of those chances you got to take trying to win this game 😉 It is a huge risk to go Salahless, but as you mention. Due to his PP at 10 he might not be worth it the next 5 weeks. I am looking to take the risk 🙂 I still got FH, WC, BB and TC. I will get him back at some point, but the way my team looks now I think I can make up for it going without him the next 5-6 GW's.

You don't win silver, you lose the gold.

Yep, outside of a wildcard you can't get all the players you want.

I'd like Alonso and Lingard now before price rises but not sure I want to dump certain players for them just yet.

But its swings and roundabouts. I got Sterling, Salah, Kane, Otamendi and others for far less than their current value. Also made a big profit on selling Ward recently. Some times you can make money and sometimes you have to spend more than others spent. Just the way it it.

That's true, but I am not gonna get tricked into using WC before I see the fixtures in BGW/DGW's just to bring in the value players 😉

I got Courtois and Hazard, and even though it hurts not owning Alonso anymore I will try to survive without him (and Salah :D)

                    Courtois
                    Otamendi - Jones - Lascelles
Sterling - Hazard - Son- Lingard - Sané
                    Firmino - Kane

(Speroni, Masuaku, DCL, Klavan) Looks fine to me at the moment. Then fix Son, Klavan and DCL in the weeks to come.

You have to be mad to sell Salah!!! If it was Sanchez or Hazard you all will call it madness even to think about it and all that just because 1 game doubts 😀
Seriously: No one from mentioned players can't even melt the gap of 25-30 pts that Salah is maintaining 😀 This is pure consistency and I really don't get who will throw garanteeed points every week :X :X :X

Liverpool can perform well without any of his big 4 attackers if the core is unite and teamwork is the main priority imho..
Klopp can find the solution to play without Coutinho easier atm, cuz he already did it previuosly in the course

I wouldn't make that assumption based on 1 missed penalty. He scored a far more important one. The one to qualify Egypt for WC. Trust me I am Egyptian and I know. The pressure on him was more than he'd feel if he was taking one in a CL final. Same as if Kane was taking the last penalty in the WC final.

You make some great points. I also sold Salah so this post is particularly relavent to me and I'm wrestling with the same questions!

The first thing to consider is that all this may be moot anyway as Salah's injury may be a lot worse than Liverpool are letting on. If it is, those of us that ditched Salah are improving our position every week. Secondly, I'm quite happy to own Hazard over Salah (if he is fit) for GW23 given their respective fixtures and the fact Salah would be coming back from injury and may play reduced minutes.

So that leaves us the fixtures from GW24 - GW27. Pretty comparable, with a slight edge for Hazard perhaps. However, Chelsea have more fixtures in this period, with the League Cup semi final v Arsenal (2 fixtures). It remains to be seen what sort of side Conte plays here, but if it appears Conte is making it a priority then Hazard's minutes could well be hit in league fixtures over this period. It will also depend what FA cup fixtures Chelsea and Liverpool get, and whether there are any replays. All of this will need to be studied carefully, as if Hazard misses a league fixture, his chance of outperforming Salah over this period dramatically reduces. Klopp has stated before that in the form Salah is in, (and especially if Coutinho leaves), then Salah is practically undroppable (when fit). Conte has made it painfully clear to us Hazard owners that Hazard can and will be rested when appropiate.

          What a great post 😉 ! Thanks - I think you're right!

Hazard -> Salah will always be an easy transfer if it turns out I am dead wrong, but I like those Hazard vs. Salah odds over the next few weeks. Combined with the fact, that many of us still got FH, WC, TC and BB options seems plenty.
However those who kept Salah this GW and will keep him for the City game may be very reluctant to ever transfer him out! If he is somewhat still injured / Coutinho leaving effects morale / fixtures results in lesser returns from Salah then going Salahless could pay off big time 😉

            Thanks 🙂

Yeah it will. Very true, and if you hold the wildcard until GW26, the transfer window will have shut and we will know many of the teams blanking/likely to blank and have doubles anyway, so Wildcarding then if you need to has less inherent risk as you can plan ahead.

Yes it could. Although another eventuality is that Hazard and Salah both hit strong form. In which case exploring a way of having both may be worth merit. In your case downgrading Sane to Arnautovic and Son to Salah is possible is it not?

Welcome to the member community, and thanks for an interesting read 🙂

Personally, I feel that Coutinho's absence hasn't hurt Salah in the past so see no reason to doubt his pedigree if he does indeed leave the club.

Playing devils advocate, you could even argue that more play will now be going through him so could even see an upturn in his chances or key passes.

The argument for Strikers oner Mids doesn't quite work for me - if you have a small talent pool for strikers (which I agree, mids seem better this season so far), then why allocate two or three spots when mids are showing value and form a plenty? If KDB is injured or banned, bring in Hazard, Salah, Eriksen, Sanchez etc. If you had your big three up top and one is injured, you'll need to take a hit to re-distribute funds to elsewhere or take a sub par pick.

So for me, I'm happy to work with money in DF and MF with Kane up top. I like Firmino but if i had him and he was injured, no one to bring in as a replacement since the jump to Aguero is too steep. If Kane goes, easier to replace with Aguero or Firminho without taking a hit.

So, if Coutinho stay at Anfield and both him and Salah are fit to play against City, keep both a good option, right?

I think he's like 1/10 to leave unfortunately.

Maybe, I didn´t hear or read nothing that indicates that but maybe. He will play if fit, I think.

Is there a set time leagues start getting updated on a night?

Really entertaining game tonight, just like most City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool games are.

Until Mourinho goes, Utd will forever be boring.

I lost my head did 5 transfers. Took out Hazard, KDB, Christensen, Rooney, Mbemba for Kane, Son, Vertonghen, arnie, Ogbonna what a mistake about 30 points worse off.

      Double gameweeks always go wrong.

      Question is Aguerro or KDB

Is Azpi to Alonso really worth it though? (Have Azpi just now, price at 6.7)

Yes - Alonzo gets goals; Azpi does not.
