The Knee Jerk

The Knee Jerk – Robin Red Faced

“He is an exceptional player and when you feed him in the box, he’s deadly.”

You see, we kind of knew all that. We realised that, against Blackburn, particularly a Blackburn reduced to ten men after half an hour, Van Persie had the tools to destroy them and deliver massive returns. The problem Mr Wenger, is that on Friday afternoon you uttered this…

“I will rotate a little bit because many players have given a lot…[With Van Persie] the temptation is there.”

That was news to us Fantasy managers. That put the frighteners on and, despite our attempt this morning to deconstruct that statement and put up arguments against the idea of resting Van Persie, some took action. Indeed, two of the top four ranked Fantasy Premier League managers opted to give the armband to Sergio Aguero – perhaps oblivious to Wenger’s threats, but more likely as a result of them.

The very idea of us, a site dedicated to passing information to Fantasy Football managers, ignoring the quotes from Wenger was never a viable option. We turned a blind eye to Friday’s Sun report, but when Wenger speaks, we had to report it. So, to counter that, in this morning’s Preamble, we stressed the need to keep faith with Van Persie and hope that Wenger resisted the gamble. Hopefully, that helped some in their decision to sit tight.

Is there a lesson to be learned? Certainly the fact that Van Persie remained on the pitch to provide an assist to Thierry Henry with the score at 6-1, indicates that the idea of resting Van Persie didn’t cross Wenger’s mind once the goals started flowing. Had Van Persie been tiring, had he been desperate for a break – why was he left on the pitch when the match was dead and buried?

Only Wenger has the answers, and it seems we’ll never quite work out his thinking when it comes to Van Persie. With the Champions League programme looming, we can surely expect more uncertainly, perhaps some smokescreens.

However, today surely confirmed that we can ill afford to take risks with Van Persie and the armband. There is no better Fantasy damage dealer and if there’s a chance that he will be on the pitch, particularly against abject opposition, we have to back him. That policy may cost us – there may well be occasions when Van Persie will be left fidgeting on the bench whilst sporting our armbands. The question is, will those who suffer that fate feel any worse that those who missed out on today’s incredible haul? Right now, in this Knee Jerk, it seems unlikely.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Morning Dead Zoners...

I am looking at my set up for next week and first question is play Walters or Moses? Walters is pants away, now in MF, not on form, although probably still on penalties (despite his miss)

yeah walters and stoke atm looking out of sorts and out of form. Though moses and wigan aint exactly lighting up the pitch. Take your pick really but fulham arent great defensivly and walters has a small bit of class so hes my man. (btw i sold him this week)

Hmm actually my fellow Canadian you're right. Mata has really favourable fixtures.

Everton away is tough, but BOL wba STO are verry appealing to me.

So do you suggest bringing in siggy this week, or a City defender?
The only thing with sig is that id have to bench one of my mids(never benching my strikers).

Tough call, what do yo think?

No i changed my mind, holding on tight with mata's fixtures and either getting in a city defender, or siggy for this week.

        Options:
        A) Mata > Silva
        B) Dawson > Richards/Komp
        C) Reo-Coker > Sigg

Im thinking C this week and B next week, as city might concede to the form darren bent is in

Dont worry ACQUA CHE will come good.

            Yes, it's completely bonkers.
He has looked dangerous every game, and he wasn't 'lucky' to get a penalty, he is on peno's, one of the benefits of choosing him.
Look at Sturridge and Chelseas form...I wouldn't be touching them at the moment.
Also, he hasn't been 'dropping deeper'...look at soccernets avg position, he is playing further forward than Dzeko and any other City player

I would leave your MF and strikers alone for the moment. Looks pretty good to me. I have never had Mata but Chelsea need to start turning it up if they are going to secure 4th place so if anyone is going to do it for them it would be him I suppose.. I have moses as my 5th MF purely so that I don't have too much difficulty choosing. Saying that, might play him ahead of Walters this week.

Bringing in a city defender is a better bet for you IMO

Just seen the red card incidents of yesterday.

    Givet. Blatant red. Like lava.

Cisse. Strictly speaking red. There is no throat grabbing in football. However, it was never any danger involved, and it spoils an entire game, so ideally a yellow would have been enough.

Huth. Late in, but does what he can to avoid contact after he committed to the lunge. Yellow innit?

Swansea at home = hard to score against. Huth will probably get rescinded. Save the free if you want to keep Morison for the week & make a transfer in defence or have 2 frees next gw.

So, I scored 57 this week, which I was very happy with until I saw other scores, and realized mine was rather poor. Kompany injured was gutting, seeing as the same happened with Lindegaard. Sess got involved again, which was perhaps even more gutting. But for the life of me, I still can't bring myself to get rid of Valencia or Dempsey for him.

57 was also a red arrow for me, albeit a small one. A decent score tomorrow should make it greener. Ba scoring would make it much better, too.

The most important thing, however, if that I have already won my L5 H2H, maintaining my lead in the greatest league in the game.

Any general advice for the team?

    Vorm, Lindy
Kompany, Enrique, Caulker, Simpson, Senderos (injured?)
    Silva, Bale, Valencia, Dempsey, Dyer
    Ba, RVP, Aguero

I saw that! Much appreciated, and great score, to you. That city cleanie was just painful with my dear Kompany injured. Good play on Hart and Dzeko, there.

Thinking of Evans in for Senderos if injured, but United fixtures aren't the greatest. Would love a Sunderland defender to, but I just don't like their run, either. Sess is killing me, but my gut just says Valencia is better. I'm wrong...but that's what I'm feeling.

looks solid newman, similar to mine except i have mata over silva.

55 with 6 to play( Williamson, Jevans, Mata, Bale, Valencia, Ba)

I think Ba's good for a goal or two so i think you should be seeing green by tomorrow.

Id save your free transfer and next week go: Enrique > Richards and Silva > Mata

You're in good shape. Senderos injury did not look serious to me when watching the game. Are you sure about keeping Enrique right now? Tricky rotation at the back for the next couple of weeks unless you already know you are happy with K + 2 of those.

Wait at least until tomorrow. Btw I may just end up with 3 consecutive scores this week (78) (and maybe 3 consecutive scores year after year, that has to be amazing). Making good use of the duplication glitch. In fact, I kind of want the same points now. Have I jinxed it?

After today's game, united have a relatively good run of fixtures coming up, after GW 27 their fixtures are pretty awesome, LIV at home isn't the hardest anymore, nor is easy, tot generally concede anyway, if nani does well for a couple of weeks might be tempting to get him in.

Not a bad punt and I nearly went for it too, the red card made sure there was no need for any Vermalaen heroics, its a pity for anyone with him that Arsenal conceded before the red. It's the same with Zamora, I had him but Cisse's red meant the game was turned on its head away from full throttle attacking which would have seen Zamora maybe grab another.

I had Zamora also and while happy he scored, was really disappointed in the Cisse red. It was a game in which I started Taiwo also(QPR def. a bit of a punt too I know) but did not really get a chance to see what the defense was capable of.

Had Zamora , Taiwo and Kenny!
Qpr started really well but the game changed completely not cos of the sending off initially but because of the injury to frimpong!
Wolves changed their formation and suddenly got on top!

The red card then made it far harder for QPR to turn things around again!
Pity that but I wouldn't be too quick to dismiss QPR players--
They've got a nice few little fixtures coming up!!

I had Young instead of Taiwo, I also fully expected they would do a decent job were it not for Cisse's idiocy ruining the game. Unfortunately Young came off with a hamstring inj but he gained 1 point by not being on the pitch when Doyle scored!

Hmmm, defence...I'm thinking swansea's backline next week could be a good bet at the mo, Norwich are poor travellers I think...

Yeah might stick as well. Have got Verm, Kompany, Taiwo, Evans, Simpson in the back. Seriously considering bringing in Richards for Verm for the next couple of weeks. I don't have Aguero though so not sure if you'd want to do double up on City defense.

Not many great options for the short term as you say. What do you think of Cole for GWs 25, 26, 27 at least?

Thanks for getting back. My plan was to go from Verm. to a chelsea defender in week 26 but would work just as well for 25. See the value in Man C. double at the back but already have Silva and Aguero and happy to keep them for now. Was trying to wait the extra week to see how the Chels def. would shake out but should know enough this week.

so, what happens is that, the amount of profit that you've made on the player = selling price- cost price is reduced by half and you get to keep that half profit for future ventures

u get half the price rise, so say u buy someone at 4.5, theyd have to rise 0.2 to 4.7 before you get an extra 0.1, so your price would now be 4.6 🙂

he has Sinclair vs Norwich at home, and Fletcher vs WBA at home.
think he edges me this week.

your leagues are very difficult, i have 3 red arrows yesterday though i (C) RVP and have Aguero. but they're interesting 🙂

Your team is favourite in this tie.

Real treat for your opponent for the next GW is Sinclair.

If I were you I would do Shotton => Kelly and Mcclean => Sinclair

      Krul
      Kelly Caulker Ekotto
      Bale Silva Valencia Dempsey Sinclair
      RVP Aguero

do you think bench Ba is a good choice? he can score any game
and i lose money if i want to buy Mc Clean back, even not sure i have enough money to change Mc Clean --> Scott. think Sidurssson even better than Scot?

your mids are fine. dont touch.

do my suggested trasfers, shotton is out of pecking order and stoke are playing shite.

mancity defensive coverage is a must. Im also getting in richards this week...

It must be a special week when you got about 54 points on Sat evening, saw overall average of 30 points, and surprisingly found red arrow.... 🙁

Scare to imagine what would happen if I didn't captain RvP.. 😕

As far as I know hes a strong doubt. Besides, I wouldn't start him if he was struggling to be fit. Don't get me wrong, I'm a Spurs fan and a huge admirer, but we shouldn't take risks with him - stick to a 4-4-2 tomorrow. Defoe is a more than capable fill in.

Although, he did score a beauty at Anfield last season.

bertrand is unlikely to start facing valencia
i think ferreira will play at LB there or bos will be switched there (who is not a great defender anw) and iva on the right cahill and luiz in the middle
but id go for ferreira at LB

doubt it, he won fill in at CB and i think pulis will keep it as is just replacing huth with upson

          would look like this:

          wilkinson shawX upson woodgate

Pulis was playing shotton oop at RM remember, but now it seems that pennant is back in favour.
