Dugout Discussion – Man City vs Leicester

Saturday’s events conclude at the Etihad Stadium where the champions-elect Manchester City host Leicester City.

Fantasy managers will of course be focused on the home side’s attacking assets, with Sergio Aguero backed by 778,000 (13.5%) with the captaincy, including 26 of the top 100 – second only to Mohamed Salah (50).

The Argentine goes into this game with seven goals in his last four home Premier League matches and 10 in his last six in all competitions.

Kevin De Bruyne (3.8%) and Raheem Sterling (2.5%) are also among the top seven captaincy picks for the Gameweek and also boast exceptional records on home turf. De Bruyne has scored 33 points from his previous four, while Sterling has produced 37.

The City defence has been less productive, with just one clean sheet from their last five Gameweeks. Nicolas Otamendi – the top owned defender in the game (31.3%), starts his 15th successive match in all competitions today.

Leicester will be buoyed by City’s defensive record. They recall Riyad Mahrez to the bench after his recent absence following City’s deadline day bid. That leaves Jamie Vardy as perhaps their most likely source of Fantasy returns – he boasts goals in each of his last three Gameweeks.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

It's really unedifying to see the FFS community having a good old pile-on Mark and the scoutcast team for criticising Aguero at a time when he was struggling a little. I just wonder how they would do without the benefit of the FFS website. I say take it down for a couple of weeks and see how it goes.

It's not the job or responsibility of FFS to point out to people that a world class striker is capable of scoring well.

Don't mind them Granville. Some people literally come on here asking other posters to pick their team for them

Absolutely true. You see it throughout every area.. make a decision, get it wrong, look for somebody else to blame rather than take responsibility. Amazing that that attitude even descends down to a game. No wonder society is failing, no personal responsibility.

        Bang on.

I think people who ask for their teams to be picked for them (and then complain when it doesn’t work out) should be kicked out. I hate the whole posting of teams asking people to pick them. What’s the point in playing?

As for those reading articles and listening to scoutcast, it’s advice. You take in facts, make a decision, take some responsibility. If you don’t like it stop coming to the site. I’d bet most of the complainers aren’t even paying subscribers anyway.

The thing is, the more opinionated the mods/cast team are, the more entertaining things are. And that leaves them more open to criticism when they get things ‘wrong’. When you put your head above the parapet, you have to accept the potshots I’m afraid.

      I completely agree !
I watch a lot of soccer (awaits attacks for using that word instead of football but I'm Irish and we have our own football) and regularly attend games . I am also a FF addict and scour stats etc. I feel I could offer a fair bit of measured advice which I do on another FF forum BUT not here! It's a cliquey closed shop imo . The first time I posted some advice I was told to come back when I had a "grav"! Is that going to make my advice sounder ? Last week I was treated with a lot of suspicion for letting people know well in advance of deadline there was a fair chance Phil Jones would miss out . And then the same posters were giving out FFS only tweeted about it at deadline!
      Anyway rant over .
Back to lurking . Keep up the good work

People dont have to be sheep. I listen to the advice and sometimes respectfully ignore it if I disagree.

You just need to look at the guys ranks over the years to see they know what they are talking about.

I went kun and captained him so it worked for me. Last week it didn't. Them's the breaks.

I mean, not often but one year I beat all of the scout cast team, so you have to be your own man. Listen, digest and make your own moves.

I have to say, with the exception of yourself Granville, the other guys do tend to have very similar teams. I guess the fear of getting it wrong and losing ground drives that. Respect to you for going against the grain.

Our teams are pretty different. Also so is the advice we give on the Scoutcast.

Great example the episode when Mark backed Vardy over Firmino showed how different we think.

And the most recent one featuring quite marked difference of opinion over goalkeepers.

Andy has backed Sanchez, Mark Hazard and me kdb.

It’s a nice neat narrative that the scoutcast is one massive collective but the reality is anything but.

Also worth checking out the scout picks for mine and mark’s opinion of Aguero - we rightly describe him as a shoo in for this gwk - which he proved to be.

Fair comment, often you each have a big differential and several others. Perhaps I was being a bit harsh there.

Tho Granville this season has defo been the outlier with his picks.

          Long term scoutcast listener.

The advice is very similar and I think this Aguero nonsense epitomises that.

Not criticising at all but from where I was standing...

Jesus out for a long period of time. Aguero the number 1 striker in the best team in the league and has consistently scored goals for years. It seemed to me, as none of you could squeeze him in (fair enough) that he was overlooked for that reason and maybe not discussed as much as Kane is.

I think from where the scoutcast began, as Granville said is meant as a bit of FPL geek entertainment and that's where its routes lie, naturally you'll have similar teams as we all do on here. Started with Mark and Granville of course, discussing their teams and in fact I found that this section used to be considerably shorter. Perhaps with where the scoutcast is now, less focus on personal teams would suit the new audience.

Just my tuppence, feedback a gift and all that.

Sorry you feel that way Granny - perhaps FFS is a victim of its own success, attracting weakly emotional posters as well as the core who have been here for many years (as an aside I do miss Granny's miffed on the Scoutcast!).

FFS is a brilliant site, but always best avoided on Match days.

Please ignore, if FFS wasn't any good then there would be few posters and even fewer subscribers. It's exceptional, and you and Mark shouldn't take things to heart.

How about people pick their own sides?
FFS forums & Scoutcast are free. People offering up their own time. Never heard the Scoutcasters describe themselves as "experts" and seen most of them.
Scoutcast mantra has always been it replicates 4/5 friends sitting around discussing their FPL teams.

Haven't read over them but ScoutCast in question was about 4GWs ago now and when discussed, it was about whether we'd specifically go for Aguero over Firmino.

Obviously in hindsight, our answer should have been yes and now we all regret it. I wasn't really in for it as I'd just gone Vardy over Firmino anyway, but the whole context of the question wasn't "do we think Aguero can score big" it was more about our own individual teams and whether we'd take hits to make the move from our second striker to Aguero.

As mentioned at the time, we answered from our own perspectives and that's been interpreted as saying we thought Aguero would do badly when there were so many other factors that influenced our view.

Not sure why we're in line for criticism still on that - Aguero is in the Picks, he was sitting top of RMT in the Captain Sensible article this week.

I'm not sure it can be had both ways, though. It used to be you two just hanging out and chatting, a small, humble conversation about this crazy obsession for a small, relatively humble but definitely hardcore audience.

Things are clearly different now as the site has gotten so popular, and there is an air of the tabloid to the whole thing, with much discussion of who said what or who picked whom, setting up a gotcha! culture that the Scouts don't seem to mind and the audience evidently can't help but revel in. If the abuse from the masses is too much, perhaps a bit more humility from all concerned would be helpful, and your well-intentioned comment only makes things more about who is or isn't an expert, begging the reverse question as well - would the Scouts be able to do well without the community?

      1. Fred54

TBH I don't mind the tabloid thing. Its the same sort of banter me any my bro have been having for years.

I notice banter doesn't go down to well on the forums due to all sorts of issues but in real life between friends or on the Scoutcast it comes across well and good natured and yes I'm ashamed to say perhaps the most appealing part of the show.

I don't mind being challenged for what's said on the cast - it's part and parcel. I just don't want what's said on the ScoutCast to solely represent FFS views when the core of what we do is the articles.

It's just some perspective - I think some listen to the Cast and ignore what we say in articles and what's said in the cast is often from the perspective of our own teams and situations. The articles, Picks, etc, aren't.

That might be the price of popularity, a community where many might prefer to be good at or right about FFS, rather than FPL or, god forbid, the actual game on the pitch. The accumulated insights on here get lost in the drama of the interactions.

As someone that doesn't have as much time as I used to, the scoutcast is probably my only medium on which I think/get advice on FPL, largely do my own thing anyways but not everyone does.

To my above point, given how far scoutcast has come maybe time to give a more rounded view (Sometimes).

Too right. Mark puts himself out there as part of the whole site . Spineless cretins can choose to criticise publicly and then crawl away back under their stones. There are others on here who change their usernames and then change them back again who delight in this kind of criticism. These are the kind of people who need to eradicated from this site.

I think a lot of the Kun criticism on the Scoutcast was quite unsubstantiated, he was criticised for not being nailed on and sharing minutes with Jesus (before the injury) even though he played quite similar minutes to Firmino and Morata, he was also being criticised for 'not being the old Kun'.

On the other hand, i can understand the non owners. Having both Kane and Kun stretches the budget, but at a time where Sanchez and Hazard are questionable picks, he was quite affordable.

People need to make their decision regardless of what is advised on here. It shouldn't be the sole reason to make decisions.

Have to take some criticism on the chin though. You guys are the stars of the show and get the chance to air you're thoughts which we don't all get so you will be the first for the blame.

The way Granville has slated the fantasy community is disgusting, he acts like Mark is doing you all a favour by running this site when the reality is without everyone on this site Mark is probably working a normal job and not making a living out of fantasy football.

Unless Granville issues an apology you should all cancel the subscription next year and give it to fantasy football fix instead, I know I will be.

We are customers now (my membership is on another account) this is no way to treat your customers by lashing out because your are unable to take criticism after putting your views into the public domain, the customer is always right, don't forget that.

you are talking drivel, Mark or any of the scouts shouldn't have to put up with vitriol, banter about not owning kun, sure, but not votriol for not saying everybody needs to buy him. Ironically It's rude and obnoxious crap like this that has dragged the site down to a point where Granville feels the need to hit out

Off course, don't dispute that Mark shouldn't take stick for offering his view, don't agree with that at all but like it or not he has to (and to his credit he does) show some professionalism as we are all his customers now and not just people who read his blog like back in the day, it's that other (insert word here) who is letting him down tonight.

I can see both sides of this. On the one hand it is a commercial enterprise and as such the customer is key. Conversely Mark expresses an opinion and vitriolic reaction to this is completely unecessary . Taking a closer look at the specific criticism reveals that in the main it is made by let's say some rather insecure individuals who appear to be incapable of taking any personal responsibility for their own decisions. The answer is simple . Don't like it ? Then bugger off

Take your £12 somewhere else?! Are you serious? The quality advice, stats and entertainment provided by FFS are worth much more IMO.
Let’s all be realistic here, its a mainly a game of probability, with some skill and a bit of luck thrown in. It’s YOUR team, if YOU think Aguero is going to score well in any given week / period then bet on him and bring him in. If you don’t then leave him out. You don’t need validation from 4 middle aged men on the scoutcast to make a decision for you. The show is designed to spark debate and generate opinion. Have your own opinion and make your own decision - right or wrong you’ll be a better person for it. If you want to blame the team for a wrong decision you’ve made, then you’re taking this a little too seriously. No one deserves criticism for having an opinion on fantasy football. Let’s all have some perspective here.

Please also prove to other concerned community members that you are in fact a paying subscriber and therefore entitled to have an opinion. It seems this season that any Tom, Dick or Harry can put FPL in front of their name and automatically become an expert in such matters. I might start calling myself Dr. Ollycee from now on... Maybe Lord Ollyce has a better ring to it actually.

Absolutely agree that reactions are over the top. We don't want a community full of LOLs and finger pointing.

However at the same time a degree humbleness from Scouts & senior posters wouldn't go amiss at times. TM245 and others have made similar points already.

This recent post stuck in my mind (http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2018/02/09/wisdom-of-the-crowd-gameweek-27/?hc_page=1#hc_comment_17651060) as I felt some comments belittled those who had chosen Aguero over Kane...

Jonty even goaded the community “strange how the Aguero owners went silent this week"...
When you make a statement like that you've then got to accept those very same people are going to be noisy when he scores 4.

All of us here have to take the rough with the smooth, whether on a podcast, writing an article, posting a hot topic or commenting.

We put our opinions out there and get pelters if they are wrong and praise if they are right.

That applies as much to those on the scoutcast as to anyone else.

Agree Granville +42.. I think it is unfair to blame anyone on picks.. I know i do go off when it comes to price rise/baps but that's of sheer bad coincidence.. I wish there was more transparency from FPL on things like price rise for example which would avoid all such speculation.

Agree entirely. Those podcasts are a free resource. People are giving up their time to help and advise. We then get ultra-crappy, cowardly (because anonymous) remarks like 'non-Aguero owners LOL' etc.

This is a really great site and most of the people posting enter into it in a good spirit. It's that small-minded, mindless minority that drag it down sometimes. Best not to bite I suppose.

Idiots. Just ignore them chaps and keep up the good work.

All you are doing is using your experience and analytical skills to examine the evidence and try to predict the future, and you do so in an engaging and thoughtful way. Of course you're not going to get it right every time.

The irony is that anyone who is annoyed with you for giving "bad" advice should have known it was bad advice in the first place, if it were that obvious, and shouldn't have listened. Muppets.

It amazes me anyone takes anyone elses opinions so seriously that they have a right to criticse anyone. At the end of the day you are just managers of FPL teams the same as the rest of us and don't have any special powers which make your opinions any better than anyone elses.

So anyone who is criticising grow some and make your own decisions. What is even the point of playing the game if you need to be told what to do the whole time. Where is the fun in that?

      Here's what I think
      - No one forces you to pick the players the scouts advocate. You have free will. Use their (informed) opinions to guide your decisions, but if you just want to copy everything they do just find the url for Jay erderstoff's team and copy that, you'll do better.
      - throwing toys out of pram helps no one. You have to be better. This is the internet. This isn't a conversation between friends in a bar, this is a conversation between everyone in the bar, even that guy pissing on his own shoes in the corner. I know you don't want to talk to him, but you can ignore what he says. You can also chuck him out if he crosses a line.
-finally. this is a game. A game. It's easy to lose sight of that sometimes but nobody died because you didn't captain Aguero this week.

I hope everyone enjoys their Sundays and calms down a bit.

I am one of many FFS members who visits the site frequently and really value what the community & scoutcast team have to offer. It would be a huge shame not to have your input, it's great to hear others talk and strategise so passionately about FPL, keep up the good work and ignore the critics. I'd imagine you might have to get used to lots of random 'feedback' with FPL growing in popularity, I'm sure your scout cast viewing/listening figures will only continue to increase over time.

Well... "unedifying", at least it's nice to add a new word to the vocabulary.

Regardless of GW27, or the haul(s) aguero's posted from GW24 through 27, I find it strange how one of the scoutcastmembers, and posssibly, the whole core core of FFS mods, are outraged that some users of the site are gloating or showing frustration. Surely the tolerance should be higher when your delivering content to an audience consisting of thousands, if not to say millions.

One could say that predicting FPL-returns is merely a numbers game, where-anything-can-happen, but usually your best bet is leaning on the strategy with the best odds. Probably this is what you all did when considering your own sides when debating Kun, and therefore should not receive the amount of criticism in the aftermath.

But let me say, WOW. Lashing out at the community after receiving criticism? Thats unworthy... some use this site to post ideas, some seek information/advice, some seek the stats and some merely stops by to gloat or to stir the pot. Whatever their angle is, their all contributing in one way or the other. Hitting back, and vaguely threathening to shut the site down seems petty and "unedifying".

(To be frank: even after searching the web i'm not really not sure if I used "unedifying" correctly)

Bit late to this. Surely, we're all capable of measuring the advice given here against our own analysis. FFS is a valuable resource, which many of us appreciate, but it's no substitute for our own judgment.

Bring back the old days, none of this immature rubbish use to happen and we all had a good JUHUU and moved onto the next GW no issues at all. Felt like a proper community then.
With popularity and increased numbers comes more criticism, that is inevitable and I think bringing it up and therefore adding more fuel to the fire was ultimately not a very wise decision Mr Granville.

I’ve not read the criticism because I only look at the hot topic discussion but I assume people are upset because, like me, they bet their children’s education money on Aguero not doing well because you and the scoutcasters said you weren’t going to get him in and now my children have to go without an education all because of you.

Tbh, most of the posts here are from weak-minded individuals who can't make decisions. It's alright to ask for advice, but pretty much everyone turns around and blames a poster who told them to do X or Y or the Scoutcast team after the event.

The scoutcast is simply five unqualified hunks who are fanatical about Fantasy Football. Perhaps a disclaimer should be shown at the beginning.

While I'm offering free feedback, I'd also like to see a graphic of each contributor's team at some point during proceedings, so I know what is going on.

Sometimes, whenever I eat M&Ms, I like to hold two m&m's in between my fingers and squeeze as hard as I can until one m&m cracks. I eat the cracked one, and the one that didn't crack becomes the champion. Then I grab the other m&m, and force it to compete with the champion in this deadly game of m&m gladiators. I do this until I run out of m&m's, and when there is only one m&m left standing, I send a letter to m&m's brand with the champion m&m in it with a note attached that reads: "Please use this m&m for breeding purposes."

How on earth can people criticize opinions? Nobody has a magic crystal ball.

The scoutcast is a good watch where you can park up your stresses of work and life and just watch ffs guys/geeks talk about the beautiful game. It's suppose to be fun this football lark... enjoy it because i for one would sorely miss it. The podcasts in the past with just Mark and Granville were entertaining but the scoutcast feels like you are down the pub with your mates... now who doesn't enjoy a pint and a chat about Football with the lads?

So, was told to check this HT out by a few people. Just to clarify, when you dish out criticism, should also be able to take it. (banter, whatever) This is for example to Jontys point on the cast where he said something like "where are kun owners now" or something.
One of the main reasons i stopped posting is if you dont conform, you are done mentality. Taking the position that FFS is just too important and people crave it because its too valuable is just... Anything you find here can be found on twitter for example. People pay for the website and tje people MADE you important so to speak or relevant. Without the community you are nothing. Being dismissive of it is just soo arogant its unreal. Lets have people NOT pay for membership next year and see how it works out.

Hey prophet. I've said elsewhere, Granville speaks for himself not me or FFS. I don't agree with his reaction or sentiment but I also wasn't going to censor what he posted because I didn't think that was right also. I'm sure that would also come in for criticism!

I can't control Granville - if you remember our days on the ScoutCast together, you know that well enough.

I am totally fine with posters criticising of what we say and do as long as it's reasonable and not selective - eg: it ignores the fact that he was in the Picks for example.

I think most have seen his post to be what it is - his passionate reaction and not my views or those of FFS.

First world problems, I really don’t think you have to justify yourself anymore. Granville said what he said and he is entitled to speak freely as we all are on here. This is a quality site, the negativity you are likely to hear is from people just being salty because something never went their way in the game, you can’t legislate for that. If you can’t be adult enough to take a bad decision on the chin you shouldn’t be playing.

            Hey Mark,

By no means do i want you to censor him or anyone else.

My point mainly was that, if you dish something out be prepared to take it. People who defend their picks blindly without saying, ok i messed up, and dish out more "banter" are the ones I kinda of have an issue with.

To be quite honest, I appreciate your reply and not holding anything against you tbh. Like what you have done to popularize the game.

I agree. I’ve had to learn how to “behave” not only when criticised but also when things go well...I’ve realised that how I act is under scrutiny and I need to check myself. I’m still working on it but I have learned to react to criticism in a more reasoned way.

But I can’t account for others who contribute and don’t really want to mute their natural stance or views in fear of it reflecting on me or my business. Maybe I need to, but it would be a shame and would probably do more harm to FFS long term.

That's all totally fair comment, but I think it was a terrible decision by whoever made it a hot topic, which gives it a bigger platform, and far more attention than the issue deserves.

Yeah I was unaware of it being HTd and have mixed feelings about it. But part of me saw the reaction and realised it was a thread being discussed a lot. I imagine we’re it not a HT I’d be asked why it wasn’t flagged.

Again, I give responsibilities to others to make calls on such things. Im sure it is in no way an act of support for what was raised more that it was a lively discussion.

It was me that hot topiced it without having an opinion on what Granville was saying.

It was a simple decision because it had already generated around 50 comments by that point and was clearly a discussion that others wanted to take part in.

Another question us mods ask ourselves when hot topicing something is -is this something people will want to find - clearly it was by the level of interest.

In the main it’s been a great chance to discuss a range of issues from group think, to the Aguero/ kanexit move as well as how we treat each other online.

It also kickstarted another hot topic on the scoutcast which looks in more detail at things people like and want to see improved.

As Mark suggests above - the point had come due to the level of interest when I was asking myself more why isn’t this being hot topiced.

A lovely couple decided to open a pub. For many years it was homely and had a core group of regulars who frequented every night in a lovely atmosphere. A new bar manager was then appointed - the regulars generally didn't really like him, but meh, the place was still fine.

Wetherspoons then came in and made an offer to take over the pub (which included all the staff being retained) that was a no-brainer to accept.

With the introduction of "pound for a pint" and "karaoke" night and other such gimmicks, business started to boom with younger typical Wetherspoons-like clientele.

The old regulars didn't like the atmosphere of the new pub, so set up their own gentleman's club across the road. This club is much smaller, but is ticking along fine with great atmosphere and pleasant company.

The Wetherspoons is still going strong in terms of the numbers of people through the door and the takings, but it will never be the same as it was in the old days. The old regulars occasionally pop in for a quick pint still though, but the beer tastes a bit watered down to them, and there's a guy in the corner sometimes pissing on his own shoes.

Thanks to Aguero's haul of 42 pts. captaining him, I am on 56 pts. with 6 left to play, incl. Salah & Firmino. Hope I atleast get into the 80s this gw.

Good players who could all return high points. Wouldn't be surprised to see 50-60 pts from that lot.

Here is was, doing good, sitting on 40 with Salah as captain and KDB as vice—then, wham, enters Kun

Well done to kun owners/captainers, don’t have him and feel I’ve missed the boat with this one, here’s hoping SanChez has a game like that

I want to rage transfer out Son. He’s the reason i have Milo’s points on the bench. He owes me points, bit of differential.
      Will keep Son for now.

will give him palace and then re-assess. Id like arnie back.

But if he starts in those wembley fixtures he will score points, so its a tough one. Usually 4 blanks and a player is out my team, just frustrating hes got these fixtures coming

Not having Aguero has killed me this week. Especially when 3/5 mini league rivals own him and captained him.

42 with Salah (C), Firm, Lingard and Alonso to go. Hoping they smash it!

Can't/won't get rid of Firmino before 31. Worth binning Alonso/Azpi/Son to fund all 3? Seriously considering it.

Any suggestions for the 31 blank for those who have played their FH but have the remaining chips available?

I was thinking cover the essentials, who will feature heavily in most GW31 FH sides (33xPool, Walcott, Shaqiri etc), then wildcard in 32/33 in prep for doubles?

Seems sensible, I'm basically doing the same as you and I still have FH which I'm planning to use in GW35
