The ScoutCast – Episode 130 – Hangout

The ScoutCast revolution is here. Not content with having to ensure our voices are up to scratch, Granville and myself decide to risk ridicule and stream our first live Google Hangout version, putting our hairlines and choice of décor on the line.

Having embarked on this brave new world, it also made sense to shake up the content so we welcome back Jonty to fire us a whole host of questions from the community and introduce some special guests along the way. We start this week with none other than the world’s top Fantasy Premier League manager – Luke Weston is in the house to rub shoulders with mediocrity and field our inquisition.

If you missed the live stream, you can catch the full “warts and all” hangout version via the player below or, if you’re a traditionalists, you can help yourself to the regular edited podcast version via this link or stream it via the first player.

PS: Apologies that we focus the camera on Granville and then myself – this is down to human error rather than our huge egos. With our ranks, we’d rather have been off camera.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Evening all, I have a problem in my team called Michu. I was planning to save the FT, play him for the juicy fixture against Newcastle and then sell for Mata next week. The tweet about him needing a late fitness test for Newcastle doesn't fill me with confidence, should I make the transfer this week instead?

Initially I wasn't too keen on the prospect of Mata away to Everton but, in the hole, he's a quality player that can rack up the points against anyone and Everton have been conceding a lot of chances (as Wakey highlighted before the Palace game)

So, Michu to Mata this week?

Its got to be Michu out this week, the only question is who you bring in

My main motivation for getting Kolarov for a hit last week was the thinking that if I now play him every week til the end of the season he might at some point get a big haul.
Monday would be as good a time as any!

I quite like the look of those two transfers, although Coleman could get a cleanie vs United, you never know. And Hull away isn't easy for Rambo

Is Mirallas and Yaya ---> Eriksen and Silva worth a hit?
Will play Punch and Mutch if I'm sticking with Yaya.
Could bring in Gerrard/Nasri instead of Eriksen...

Gameweek Hits, just had a look at my gameweek history and i have taken hits on 19 times this season with a ratio of 15 green arrows from those weeks and only 4 red arrows when taking no hit.So to me taking hits should not be frowned upon, what success rate have you got as far as hits go?

Overall on 9 weeks i have taken no hit i have had a red arrow.

    Hits are all good.

Whether you got a red or green arrow doesn't really show whether the hit was a success or not. You need to compare what points you would have got with and without the hit.

11 greens to 6 reds when taking hits......add this to the extra tv gained thro making more transfers then hits are fine....aslong the transfer is gd the hit will be paid back

3 green and 5 red for me. It's far too simplistic to say hits are either good or bad.

9 hits for me, and only 3 greens

I do remember checking some weeks that i got my red arrows that the hits did pay off though - they got me more points than the players id transferred out, and so covered themselves and I'd have had a red arrow anyway

6 - 5 in favour of green this year but that's unusual. I've noticed my hits paying off in previous years with higher returns the bigger the hit. Not so with WCs, though, and the same this year with two red arrows :-). You've also got to consider the longer term benefit, particularly when setting up or deconstructing a DGW team

4 greens and 2 reds this season when I have taken hits.

4 of them probably justified (3 greens and 1 red), and 2 not (1 red and 1 green).

I have taken fewer hits than in previous seasons, and have therefore taken fewer bad hits than before.

However, considering the number of successful hits taken by the world number one, I may have to reconsider this strategy. Hits clearly can be good, but they have to be the right ones.

        thinking this

what are you doing with Yaya. Mata seems the obvious choice along with Silva but I have Noone as well. If Yaya is only going to miss one week, or Silva won't play v WBA then I see no point in selling

do you think Yaya to Silva is actually worth it, might depend on how long Yaya is out for, and if Silva will be fit for Monday

Think Silva's chances of being fit for Monday are much better than Yaya's. Yaya may have lost a lot of his appeal anyway if Aguero takes penalties back.

this is also true, it just means an extra hit is is all.

Kos looks good for his price but he doesn't have a DGW. I can just afford Evra now, so I think he'll be out come DGW with rises.

With RVP and Rooney not really being missed much, because of Mata's performance; I think Moyes now has the authority to build his team around Mata rather than the primadonnas he inherited

    A) Yaya & Dzeko -> Puncheon & Aguero
    B) Yaya, Dzeko & Sturridge -> Lallana, Aguero & Lambert for a 4p hit?
    C) something else to save me

    Current team:

    Mannone - Marshall
    Coleman - Bardsley - Ward - Baines - Chester
    Silva - Gerrard - Noone - AJ - Yaya
    Dzeko - Sturridge - Suarez
