The Daily Mail are reporting this morning that John Terry has threatened to quit Chelsea on Friday night following a breakdown in talks over his new contract [source]. Meanwhile, Terry’s chances of appearing in Sunday’s Cup Quarter Final is solely in the hands of medical staff with Mourinho and Terry himself, declaring that he is ready to return.
According to the Mail, Terry has been made a “take it or leave it” offer from Chelsea with the defender seeking a wage increase that will bring him equal to the club’s top earners – Ballack and Shevchenko who reportedly earn £130,000 a week. However, it would appear that Terry has not been offered such an amount, whilst the length of the contract also appears to be a sticking point. Terry is apparently considering buying himself out of his remaining 2 years and seeking a new club in Europe.
As for Sunday, it appears that Terry had been quoted a two-week rest period after suffering from concussion in the Carling Cup Final. That two-week period is up on Sunday, so it appears that the Chelsea medical staff are set to clear the way for Terry to lead Chelsea against Spurs. Just what frame of mind he’ll be in, given the contract fall out, is another matter.
