Sunderland have been boosted by the news that both Carlos Edwards and Kenwyne Jones are free to play against West Ham at the weekend after Trinidad & Tobago relented in their objection to both players being withdrawn from their international with Jamaica on Wednesday. It was thought that they would seek to invoke a FIFA sanction that would prevent the pair form lining up for Sunderland five days after the International fixture. However, it is reported that Dwight Yorke – Trinidad & Tobago’s 2006 World Cup Captain – helped smooth relations with the club and leave the way clear or Jones and Edwards to be in contention.

It’s pretty clear then that both are likely to figure at the weekend. Jones missed the win at Villa Park through illness, while Edwards is believed to be carrying a groin injury. Jones is in the middle of serious goal drought with no goal in 10 games – however, with Birmingham’s McFadden sidelined, there could be some budget-buy interest coming the way of Jones for a game in which Sunderland look likely to need a couple of goals to prevail. West Ham have found some form and I fancy them to nick a goal.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.
