There was plenty of speculation concerning the future of Man City’s Vedran Corluka this morning but the Daily Mail have gone further by reporting that Spurs have agreed terms with the player.
A fee of £7 million is being muted, which seems odd considering that City laid out a similar fee for the player when he signed from Dinamo Zagreb last season.
His arrival at White Hart Lane would certainly bolster Tottenham’s defensive options and open up several Spurs defenders to the threat of rotation.
Corluka enjoyed a decent first season at City and impressed during Euro 2008. Although primarily a right back, he can play across the defence and can also adopt a holding midfield role as he did on several occasions for City last season.
It would be an intriguing signing by Spurs and one that would threaten the starting role of Hutton, whilst offering rotation options in central defence. Ramos does of course have to deal with the injury-prone pairing of Woodgate and King. Corluka would certainly offer increased options as a replacement, along with Dawson and to some extent, Huddlestone and Zokora.
If Man City do let Corluka depart then Mark Hughes will surely turn to Nedum Onuoha to fill the void. The England U21 defender is currently available as a budget option in many fantasy games and could well be a decent consideration in times of favourable fixtures for City. Once Richard Dunne returns from suspension, the City defence could well be a sound investment.
There is no confirmation of terms being agreed with the player, so we can only wait and see if this develops or if it’s just the Mail getting ahead of themselves.
