So Didier Drogba is back amongst the goals. The Ivorian was far from his best at the KC Stadium in last night’s 1-1 draw with Hull, appearing to be heavy-legged at times. His strike, a curling free-kick a few minutes from half-time, did all the talking for him though; a reminder of the quality that will surely seal heavy fantasy investment in the next few gameweeks...
Right now in the Fantasy Premier League game, Drogba’s price is held at 11.2, having dropped from 11.7 prior to his departure to the African Cup of Nations. A significant price rise is on the way, a factor which is likely to push many managers to invest early on. Right now Drogba’s price is protected from a rise for another couple of days but from Friday, we will start seeing a climb.
The Anelka to Drogba switch will be a popular one this gameweek, with so many managers having put faith in the Frenchman for Chelsea’s two fixtures at Burnley and Hull. Anelka rewarded that investment with a goal and Fantasy Premier League bonus points from the weekend but drew a blank in last night’s game. It’s clear that with Drogba back installed in the Chelsea forward line, Anelka will be shifted to a wider role on the right-hand side, with Joe Cole apparently tucking in just behind and Malouda marauding down the left.
Holding on to Anelka for the weekend fixture with his former club Arsenal could prove a handy differential for some, although Drogba always enjoys himself against the Gunners defence. It’s a tough one to call then.
Both will start so in many ways the Anelka to Drogba switch is a luxury. It’s certainly open to those who don’t need to make repairs elsewhere but for managers carrying knocks and uncertainties, it could be a move that’s delayed for a gameweek or two. That will of course mean swallowing the inevitable price rise. It’s just another delicious dilemma in what has been a tumultuous fantasy season.
