The last sixteen of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup II, sponsored by Paddy Power, have now been whittled down to eight. To see who exactly has reached the quarter-finals click here, for the full list of results. To find out how they did it, and to see who has won this weeks free £25 bet, read on…
The highest aggregate scoring tie in the sixth round saw fiacloir eek out a narrow two-point victory over Evs. Going into the final game of the gameweek at the KC Stadium, Evs needed more from Gabriel Agbonlahor than he got. He may also regret not doubling up on Birmingham City defenders like his opponent did, with Scott Dann’s seven points sitting on his bench. Akers predicted: Evs.
2 – mysteryDave 71 -70 Morrissey1986
One of two ties decided by a single point, this was a predictably close match-up. Despite transferring in James Milner and Ashley Young, Morrissey1986’s choice of captain out of the two proved to be a big mistake. Akers predicted: mysteryDave.
3 – Squerly4568 53 – 46 BSH
The lowest aggregate tie saw Squerly4568 beat BSH by seven points. BSH will rue leaving Charles N’Zogbia, and his 13 points, on the bench. Akers predicted: BSH.
4 – williamkilcoyne 64 – 67 Buggu
Despite making two excellent transfers this week, bringing in James Collins and John Carew, williamkilcoyne’s great cup run (that saw him put out tournament favourite NBJ) has come to an end. Akers predicted: Buggu.
Not only did Louie manage the largest margin of victory against Fabio1102, but in doing so he achieved the highest score for the round earning himself a free £25 bet courtesy of Paddy Power. He has his trio of Villa players to thank for his massive haul. Akers predicted: Louie.
6 – Hunter S. Thompson 61 – 70 Steve
Looking at both teams it looks like the extra Aston Villa defender for the double gameweek was the difference for Steve, as well as having two free transfers at his disposal. Akers predicted: Steve.
7 – BonusPolice 53 – 54 IMWORTHIT
The second one-point victory saw IMWORTHIT squeeze past BonusPolice into the quarters. Both managers made identical transfers, bringing in Darren Bent and Ashley Young. BonusPolice will perhaps be regretting not bringing in a Villa striker instead of Bent. Akers predicted: BonusPolice.
Jonty beat Rowlands with reasonable ease despite an inspired, Milner-lead, comeback from Rowlands. Akers predicted: Rowlands.
As you can see, my predictions were predictably average, and perhaps flipping a coin may have proved as successful. Nonetheless, congratulations to the eight fantasy managers making the quarter-finals (the draw for which will be made live on the podcast later today), and commiserations to the eight fantasy managers leaving the competition at this point.
