James Milner proved a double gameweek darling for the second time this season, rewarding investors with a goal and maximum Fantasy Premier League bonus point haul from last night’s 2-0 win at Hull.
Ironically the last time Milner returned maximum bonus, or indeed any bonus points, was away at the DW Stadium in March for the second fixture in a gameweek 30. Milner subsequently contributed 12 points in that double and 15 in this – rich rewards for those who brought him in, even bigger returns for those who wisely handed him the armband. It seems Milner saves his best form for the double gameweeks…
The Ashley Young debate was settled firmly in the Milner’s favour then, while Gabby Agbonlahor ended the gameweek with eight points, pipped by John Carew with nine courtesy of the assist for Gabby’s goal. With Richard Dunne and James Collins notching clean sheets and bonus points, plus Friedel also returning double figures, investors in Villa’s double fixtures were rewarded handsomely. What’s more, with Martin O’Neill’s side facing an out of form Birmingham at Villa Park this weekend, there’s every chance that the confidence to back three members of their squad will be repaid once again. Villa remain one of the most motivated sources of Fantasy talent while they maintain a chase for a Champions League spot or Europa League spot.
There will be plenty of Fantasy Managers feeling a smug satisfaction right now then. Sadly I’m not one of them. Despite backing Milner, Agbonlahor and Friedel in the Scout Picks, I chose to maintain a differential against my rivals and stick with just Collins in my defence. Another mistake in this topsy-turvy season of mine which is now drawing to a dramatic close.
Listen out for the podcast coming later this week – it should be a good one.
