Deserved winners. Awful game. Howard Webb got out alive. Just.
That just about sums up the World Cup Final which successfully lived up to the reputation established by just about every other World Cup Final in living memory.
The less said the better then, particularly as my own McFIFA campaign came to an end with an unsaved set of substitutions resulting in my hapless selection slipping right down the final rankings. A respectable finish looks assured but in truth it was all over bar the shouting after Brazil’s exit. There will be no tears from me.
Others faired better across our leagues. Scout poster “Jafalad” won the McFifa league, and finished 8th in the world, whilst regular poster “Gargamel” also won himself a slice of delicious technology by winning the “ipad league” and claiming 226th place. A shoutout also goes to Paul Crooks who topped our Sky Sports league and came 11th in the world in that game. Over in the Metro game meanwhile some bloke called Andy did “okay”, winning our league and claiming 20th spot overall. Good work all round…
Back to the McFIFA game and The Fantasy Football Scout League appears to have been beated at the death by those BlogSuperliga Ronda1 guys. Presumably as they appear to be a Spanish football blog they had the slight advantage of surfing in on Spain’s wave to glory. Even so, nobody point them in the direction of the Fantasy Premier League game just in case they really are a collective of Spanish Fantasy Football know-it-alls.
While they can celebrate along with their national heroes, we can all move along happily because while the World Cup was a pleasant, if a somewhat disappointing distraction, the real business starts tomorrow when the Fantasy Premier League game swings open the shiny new showroom.
When Fernando Torres ominously pulled up at the death tonight, I immediately pictured a tortured Roy Hodgson wincing on the sofa. Painful for Fernando and Roy but comforting for us Fantasy Managers who in that single moment, immediately transferred thoughts to all things Premier League. That’s where our heads will stay for many many months and it already feels good.
The World Cup might have gone to Spain but at least Fantasy Football is coming home.
