Injuries

This has not been a good day as far as injuries are concerned for two of the Premier League’s top clubs. This morning Liverpool confirmed that Dirk Kuyt will be out of action after picking up an injury in international training. This was then followed by news from the Emirates that Robin Van Persie will be out for longer than expected after sustaining an ankle knock against Blackburn last week…

Kuyt is reported to have injured his shoulder while attempting an overhead kick in practice with the Dutch squad, with Liverpool’s doctor Peter Brukner confirming…

“Dirk has damaged his shoulder at the A-C joint, which is between the collar bone and the shoulder. He is likely to be out for four weeks.”

In terms of our Fantasy squads, having only been selected by 2.9% of managers in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), this isn’t the worst news ever and will probably open up an opportunity for someone like Maxi Rodriguez or, at a push, Ryan Babel. However, given Kuyt’s injury will see him likely absent from Liverpool’s not too pleasing upcoming three fixtures (bir, mun, SUN) this may be one punt that is best kept in the holster.

As for our Arsenal compatriot, Mr. Van Persie has most recently been reported on the Arsenal website to be out of action until mid-October, leaving an opening in the Arsenal starting XI for a continued stretch of games as Robin recovers from another injury. That man is precious.

Reserved estimates would assume that the Dutch forward won’t be back until after the next international break at the earliest meaning a minimum 4 week stretch for someone to fill his boots. Step forward Marouanne Chamakh.

At only £8.2m in FPL and with relatively kind fixtures (BOL, sun, WBA, che, BIR) in their next five investment could see a sharp increase from the intrepid investors. As highlighted by my colleague Sir Paulos just last week, the Moroccan striker appears to offer large amounts of space for the currently goal happy Theo Walcott, who is priced rather nicely at £7.3m and swiftly rising.

On the plus side, Samir Nasri is expected to return to full training – ahead of schedule – in the coming days and fight for a place in the Arsenal team once more. Investment in value Emirates players all round is looking likely.

All of this before another round international fixtures kick off through the evening. Keep your eyes peeled right here for any more breaking injury news as the days roll on and Gameweek Four draws near.
