Carlo Ancelotti has once again taken the step to name his lineup in advance for a Premier League game and the headline news is that Didier Drogba is not in the side.

According to the Chelsea boss Drogba was taken ill this week and was not able to train, ruling him out of the trip to Villa…

“Drogba had a fever this week and was not able to train, he started today but is not fit. He took antibiotics in the last days and needs to train next week and I’ll know if he is available for the game in the Champions League.”

This is obviously huge news for Fantasy Managers with Drogba owned by almost 50% of Fantasy Premier League game. Given the nature of his absence and his FPL price rise, it seems likely that many Fantasy Managers will look to bench the striker – it’s one of those occasions the where the strength of the bench is out to the test and this could well be a significant Gameweek in the Fantasy season as a result.

The loss of Drogba opens the way for Gael Kakuta to come into the side – that presents a very intriguing option given that the 19-year old is classed as a 5.4 midfielder in the FPL. We may see some opportunist Fantasy Managers gamble on his differential, although the trip to Villa is hardly an easy fixture to rely on such a short-term gamble.

Elsewhere in the Chelsea lineup we have it confirmed that John Terry is fit and available to take his place alongside Ivanovic; that allows Paulo Ferreira to come in at right-back. Frank Lampard is not available however with Ancelotti stating that he needs more time to recover from an adductor injury…

“[Lampard] is getting better but he needs to have some weeks again, maybe two weeks to be fit 100 percent, he had a problem on his adductor and we have to pay attention. He is working individually and needs two weeks again.”

Ancelotti’s lineup is confirmed as – Cech, Ferreira, Ivanovic, Terry, Cole; Ramires, Essien, Mikel; Kakuta, Malouda, Anelka.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

We going to see the most expensive bench line ups of the season? I now have Drogba and Alex on the bench. Could be worse, I guess some have a bench of Fab/Drogba/Alex.

      Jerome is doubtful

Even if fit, I'd take a hit to get Tevez in. I'd fancy him to find the net against B'Pool

Personally I'd still go with Tevez (-4).

Tevez is odds-on (8/11) with the bookies to score this week so every chance you will re-coup the 4 points immediately and have a transfer available next week.

So two long boring weeks of an international break ends with the shit flavoured cherry of two of my best players out.
F*ck. Mind you, in a desperate attempt to clutch at straws, I've been confident before each of the last two GW and performed poorly - maybe the reverse is true this week?

Let's hope Sky Sports don't ammend their predicted lineup. Most people I know use it as their source of info =)

Chelsea: Cech, Ferreira, Ivanovic, Terry, Cole, Essien, Lampard, Ramires, Anelka, Drogba, Malouda.

With probably auto caps of value (Malouda) or form (Tevez/Berbs/Nani). Don't think we will benefit that much. Why did they have to add auto caps, to benefit the people who make teams then forget about them?

Have to agree the auto caps adds far too much of element of luck to the game (not that you can deny luck is innevitably part of itanyway but it takes it too far). Still wake up in a cold sweat after re-dreaming the events of a guy in my league last year getting 50 points off Defoe after an auto cap change - complete injustice.

Finally, my team of players who've been injured / sent off / unexpectedly dropped is up to the full 11 (with Harper playing as a makeshift centre forward):

    Jussi
    Van Damme, Dawson, Alex, Koncheski
    Malouda, Fabregas, A. Johnson, Thomas
    Drog, Harper

Is it just me, or have I not been having the luck this year?

Another couple of things from the press conference:

At the end Carlo said that Drogba wasn't going to travel to Moscow. And, he was very complimentary about Bosingwa, saying that he wants him to do the same as Ashley Cole does on the left. He also said that he will start against Wolves.

Another attacking wingback on the other side will leave chelsea very vulnerable to counters.

It will. Acole practically is playing as a winger. So one CB(terry) moves a bit to the right, with alex in the center and ivanovic tucks in as a third CB during counter. Another attacking RB will not do any good to the chelsea defence.

      Thanks for the extra info,

How does that make you feel about Alex? Are you like me thinking that he is likely to be less secure? If Bos can come in and play well, offering a real attacking outlet then this could lead to Ivan, Alex and Terry battling it out for 2 CB slots every week....

      Rotation central?

I agree with Pavanai, and despite the comments I still think that Ivanovic will play most games at RB.

Alex is the best centre back we have, but with Terry being undroppable I guess that it is conceivable that Alex maybe rotated from time to time. Although Terry and Ivanovic were hopeless together in the Community Shield game..

But, centre back isn't really a position for 'rotation central'...

        Gerrard Malouda Etherington Davies Bale
        Tevez Carroll

Which admittedly isn't as bad as some people have ended up, it's frustrating nevertheless... And it makes choosing between getting rid of Gerrard or Malouda very difficult.
