Carlo Ancelotti has once again taken the step to name his lineup in advance for a Premier League game and the headline news is that Didier Drogba is not in the side.

According to the Chelsea boss Drogba was taken ill this week and was not able to train, ruling him out of the trip to Villa…

“Drogba had a fever this week and was not able to train, he started today but is not fit. He took antibiotics in the last days and needs to train next week and I’ll know if he is available for the game in the Champions League.”

This is obviously huge news for Fantasy Managers with Drogba owned by almost 50% of Fantasy Premier League game. Given the nature of his absence and his FPL price rise, it seems likely that many Fantasy Managers will look to bench the striker – it’s one of those occasions the where the strength of the bench is out to the test and this could well be a significant Gameweek in the Fantasy season as a result.

The loss of Drogba opens the way for Gael Kakuta to come into the side – that presents a very intriguing option given that the 19-year old is classed as a 5.4 midfielder in the FPL. We may see some opportunist Fantasy Managers gamble on his differential, although the trip to Villa is hardly an easy fixture to rely on such a short-term gamble.

Elsewhere in the Chelsea lineup we have it confirmed that John Terry is fit and available to take his place alongside Ivanovic; that allows Paulo Ferreira to come in at right-back. Frank Lampard is not available however with Ancelotti stating that he needs more time to recover from an adductor injury…

“[Lampard] is getting better but he needs to have some weeks again, maybe two weeks to be fit 100 percent, he had a problem on his adductor and we have to pay attention. He is working individually and needs two weeks again.”

Ancelotti’s lineup is confirmed as – Cech, Ferreira, Ivanovic, Terry, Cole; Ramires, Essien, Mikel; Kakuta, Malouda, Anelka.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Just checking the rules, if 2 strikers don;t play ie Drog, Odem, and no striker on the bench, can a mid or defender drop in instead? I've always assumed it did, but now Drogba injury means it could be crucial.

you have to play at leasst ONE striker. you'll just get 0 if all ur strikers get 0.

once you have one striker playing, whoever you have linedd up as replacement comes in.

            Not difficult really....

Its the risk you take, the flip side is he comes on and scores like he did at United.

Fabregas and Drogba stay in my line up, if neither play then all good, my subs come in, if their managers man up and give them half hour each then I will run the risk, both can still do a lot of damage in a cameo role.

Tricky dilemma. I'm not sure if I'd take a points hit for Varney, even if he is on form and at home, as City don't concede many. I see you have money in the bank, maybe Odimthingie > Berba if it stretches that far. But I think you can still field a reasonable 11 with what you've got - assuming you've transferred out Alex already for someone who will play? If that's the case, bench Stam, Drog and Thingie, that's not a bad 11. I don't think it'll be a week where any one player scores hundreds of points.

    Wildcard:
    (Foster), KURL
    ENRIQUE, Alcarez, (Jara), Coleman, (Elmo)

Well I have to play Etuhu or Konchesky in Drogbas place. Neither of which pleases me to be honest but I'm not going to transfer him out because then I would have to find 0.4m to get him back in as well as finding 0.3 for getting Fabregas back in.

Just checked your team. So Drogba, Alex and probably Jara on the bench. No real reason to get rid of any of them though.

If I were to change any of the starting 11 it would probably be Dempsey. But then you could have Fabs lined up to replace him, so you could look at it as a free one week only transfer...

Exactly, Dempsey or Bale will be going for Fabs next week as Torres is downgraded, probably to Elmander. Considering still getting Elmander in, but if he's fit surely keep Torres?!
As such Im happy with my team, as you say, but dont want to loose the chance to get Mummy in. It looks like Samaba may rise tonight so I might try and do it tomorrow....

If Torres is fit, you have to keep him. He can score a brace against anyone.

If they do actually get sold today there'll be a "feel good factor" about Liverpool going into the game too.

I was looking at getting Torres out this week but in light of the man from The Ivory Coast being unwell, I shall stick and hope a) he plays and b) he plays more than 9 mins

In other news, Nani is now due to be captained by approximately 104% of fantasy managers this week.

ok so regrettably i took a 4 point hit to get in Fabs so was relucantly going to stick 11.8m on my bench.

Now with Drogs out, i'll be have to play 3 of:

    Konchesky, Coleman, Fabs, Drogba, Odemwingie...

It's highly likely even with my auto subs i'll get 0 somewhere... is it worth taking another hit to take out Fabs, or should i just stick them all in and hope for the best?

Yes i agree United should and probably will score more than city its just there is a possibility United could score without Nani's influence while Tevez is at the heart of everything at City.

And Blackpool are bound to let a few in as they have all season bar week 1 due to there style of play.
