Carlo Ancelotti has once again taken the step to name his lineup in advance for a Premier League game and the headline news is that Didier Drogba is not in the side.

According to the Chelsea boss Drogba was taken ill this week and was not able to train, ruling him out of the trip to Villa…

“Drogba had a fever this week and was not able to train, he started today but is not fit. He took antibiotics in the last days and needs to train next week and I’ll know if he is available for the game in the Champions League.”

This is obviously huge news for Fantasy Managers with Drogba owned by almost 50% of Fantasy Premier League game. Given the nature of his absence and his FPL price rise, it seems likely that many Fantasy Managers will look to bench the striker – it’s one of those occasions the where the strength of the bench is out to the test and this could well be a significant Gameweek in the Fantasy season as a result.

The loss of Drogba opens the way for Gael Kakuta to come into the side – that presents a very intriguing option given that the 19-year old is classed as a 5.4 midfielder in the FPL. We may see some opportunist Fantasy Managers gamble on his differential, although the trip to Villa is hardly an easy fixture to rely on such a short-term gamble.

Elsewhere in the Chelsea lineup we have it confirmed that John Terry is fit and available to take his place alongside Ivanovic; that allows Paulo Ferreira to come in at right-back. Frank Lampard is not available however with Ancelotti stating that he needs more time to recover from an adductor injury…

“[Lampard] is getting better but he needs to have some weeks again, maybe two weeks to be fit 100 percent, he had a problem on his adductor and we have to pay attention. He is working individually and needs two weeks again.”

Ancelotti’s lineup is confirmed as – Cech, Ferreira, Ivanovic, Terry, Cole; Ramires, Essien, Mikel; Kakuta, Malouda, Anelka.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

To play, Konchesky or Shawcross? I am thinking Konchesky because of what that Jamsiep bloke was saying earlier about the twitter thing and how people who post teams on there have all came up with the same actual lineup. And Konchesky is in it. If they were both fit, who would you choose?

After a poor GW last time, really hoping to get back on track again. Much will depend on United putting on a show, and also if Arshavin and Carroll can get in the points again. I am NOT expecting Liverpool to keep a clean sheet though....

I scored 23 points last week. This week i need Birmingham to keep a clean sheet at the Emirates, West Brom to keep a clean sheet at Old Trafford, Wolves to win against West Ham, Fulham to beat Spurs, Tevez to score a hat trick, and Andy O'Brian to make a shock return to first team football with Bolton.

    What d'ya reckon?

Who can tell - it's the totally sane Siralex Fergie we are dealing with here. If he's in a foul mood he could send Shrek to Coventry for weeks. He's got a shedload of strikers, of whom Berbatov appears to be in prime form.

Drog out is good. Seperates the wheat from the chaff. There's plenty of players with sweet FA on their bench and they're about to get found out. Hopefully in my mini-league!

Plus I just got given a ticket to the Arsenal so I'm pretty made up!

Football then drinking along Upper Street and down to Groove Armada at Brixton Academy... quality. Gonna captain Nasri in celebration!

Djourou. 4.3. Gonna play Sat cos Kos and Vermaelen are injured. Buys you another week to look at who you want as your long term cheapie - or you might find the injuries see him keep his place.

Don't mind Drogba being out. Was a bit nervous about Bale being on my bench.

Captaining Tevez, though... not feeling 100 per cent secure with that choice.

    Michael!

I had this wine last night:

Awatere Pass Pinot Noir, New Zealand £6.85 £26.95
Soft, silky ripe-cherry and raspberry flavours with some
spiced vanilla complexity, giving a smooth persistent finish.

Didn't think it was up to much though. Also suspicious of the placement on the menu. Your opinion?

Don't go near Marlborough for red wine. Hawke's Bay or Australia. Or Argentina, for that matter...

It's a province at the top of the South Island. Great sav blanc and quite good chardonnay, but risky for reds.

No - they are good winemakers, try their Sauvignon - but Pinot Noir is notoriously and fiendishly difficult to vinify. Should you want a New Zealand Pinot Noir, try Wairau River Home Block 2007, pr Hinton 2003. £26.95 is a reasonably fair price for it, though - depends on the context ... 🙂

It kinda proves the English football is happy to keep breaking players' legs.

I used to want players like Messi and Iniesta to play in this country, now I'm glad they don't; thugs like Ryan Shawcross and Karl Henry would wrek their careers.

Even though I've got one of those feelings that Gerrard might be a talisman this weekend at Everton under all the media attention surrounding Liverpool, I'm hovering over the transfer button taking him out for either VDV or Nasri... Please advise as I've already had to bench Drogs and bring Bale back into the side!
