The calm before the storm of no early kick-offs has gone and now all that’s finally left for us to do is get ensconced in another gameweek bound to throw up some interesting affairs in Gameweek 8.

We’ll be closing out today’s action when Chelsea pay visit to Aston Villa, but there’ll likely to be little surprise there thanks to Carlo’s usual burst of information in revealing his starting XI (Cech; Ferreira, Ivanovic, Terry, Cole; Mikel, Ramires, Essien; Malouda, Anelka, Kakuta) so now it’s time to sit back and take in the six 3pm kick-offs.

Some of the team news filtering through this afternoon includes Wayne Rooney (and John O’Shea) being given a place on the bench (probably an ankle injury, right?) with Javier Hernandez given another crack at the whip. Their opponents West Brom call in Somen Tchoyi and Marc-Antoine Fortuné in place of Graham Dorrans and the injured Peter Odemwingie…

Nikola Zigic is given a rare start for Birmingham as they visit Arsenal, who in turn only give Nicklas Bendtner and Theo Walcott places on bench on their return from injury, it also looks like Samir Nasri might be out on the wing this afternoon (bugger says I). Harry Redknapp meanwhile sees Ledley King and William Gallas pass fitness tests to play while Sandro also makes his first Premier League start for the club. Moussa Dembele and Diomansy Kamara start up front for home side Fulham.

Newcastle United have drafted Andy Carroll back in as well as Peter Lovenkrands and Danny Guthrie in place of Shola Ameobi, captain Kevin Nolan and the injured Hatem Ben Arfa. Wigan on the other hand drop Hugo Rodallega and Steve Gohouri to allowSteven Caldwell and Ronnie Stam starting berths.

Kieron Dyer starts for West Ham.

The Dugout Discussion is open and welcoming all looking for their usual matchday fix of revelry.

Wenger doesn't need to defend it. All he asks for is for tackles like that to be punished correctly, which it was.

Wilshere's doing exactly what Paul Scholes has had to do throughout his career; leave marks on the bigger players so they didn't make a habit of kicking him. A few minutes earlier, Zigic elbowed him in face face, leaving him flat out on the deck.

i'm not that confident of us beating Villa today without Drogba, Lamps and Alex.

Its between us and City imo.

Man Utd look the weakest they have for years, Arsenal same old same old and Liverpool are decades away. Spurs for 3rd?

dont know why you are so confident, compare each squad man for man and i would say Spurs are possibly better covered.

          Manutds midfield is a joke.

Yeah but Spurs are managed by Harry Redknapp and have the CL as a serious distraction. Good squad though, I agree.

BBC text: "Jack Wilshere is rightly sent off for what looks a horrible lunge on Nikola Zigic. His studs were showing as he completely missed the ball and went through the Birmingham striker's ankle.:

        A. Wenger's pre-match programme comments: "Managers have an important part to play - we are all responsible for the behaviour of our teams [...] What has got lost is the technique of the tackle: a tackle with two legs should be an automatic red card, but a good tackle is beautiful to watch. That means that your feet are on the ground, you are getting the ball back and only playing the ball. Personally I like the physical commitment in England - we shouldn't lose that."

        Classic bit of irony.

He may be a hypocrite, but it doesn't make him any less right.

People seem to use those "oh well Arsenal used to be really dirty", "Vieira, Keown, Petit, etc" lines as if it excuses bad tackles from other teams.

Arsenal are at the stage now where all they can do is fight fire with fire until someone actually does something about it.
