Six Premier League matches, not a single clean sheet. Can someone at the FPL approve a 1-7-3 formation?

We went into Saturday’s matches with United facing West Brom at fortress Old Trafford, Arsenal up against a Birmingham side low on confidence and without Cameron Jerome, Newcastle hosting a goal-shy Wigan. It didn’t look too much to ask to expect at least one clean sheet from that lot.

Instead investors in Patrice Evra, Nemanja Vidic, Tim Krul, and the one-week budget offer that is Johan Djourou, were left empty handed. Arsenal’s fragility was again exposed, this time by the towering Nikola Zigic, Van der Sar uncharacteristially blundered two points against Di Matteo’s refreshingly cavalier Baggies, and Newcastle were undone by a proper Charile N’Zogbia performance.

As this is typed the league’s best defence is largely unoccupied, while Chelsea’s midfield dominate the second period at Villa Park. Perhaps Carlo Ancelotti’s side will once again be the Fantasy Manager’s saving grace?

Then we have Man City to come on Sunday as they hop on the bus to Blackpool. They can expect waves of attack at the seaside; the word “cagey†doesn’t exist in the Blackpool vocabularly and I can’t see Holloway involving himself in a game of chess with the cultured Roberto Mancini. City won’t have it easy then, but maybe they can join Chelsea as the two continue to run away with the clean sheet count.

Aside from that pair of defensive dependables, Fantasy Managers are left scratching for returns at the back. The trend towards mid-price or cheap defensive options who can offer the threat of attacking points – Seamus Coleman of Everton, Elmohamady of Sunderland, Chris Samba of Blackburn and perhaps Gary Cahill of Bolton, is surely set to continue.

Can anyone really back the Arsenal defence until Thomas Vermaelen returns from injury? Do we expect Untied to travel to Stoke or indeed, to host Spurs the Gameweek after, and keep them at bay? Not even the mid-price defences, who have provided a modicum of efficiency in previous seasons – Aston Villa, Stoke, Birmingham, Fulham – seem to provide any real potential that can be relied on.

Find me a defender out of position or at least one who can offer a real threat from set-plays. After today’s heavy load of dirty laundry, I’m beginning to give up on the hunt for clean sheets.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

So people will now be thinking midfielders:

Nzog, Adam, Brunt, Ethers (cheaper mids)
VDV , Nani, Bale, Arteta (mid range)
        Malouda, Fabs (high range)

To get the ultimate selection? Not easy.

thats what Im thinking to be honest. Losing a little patience with malouda, although to be fair hes still 2nd highest scorer.

Hopefully Carlo will keep up his team selection on thursday/friday and Ill make a decision then. Dont think Ill keep him if he doesnt start against Wolves.

I'm absolutely astounded by the disparity between Bale's output for the Premier League and the Champions League.

I think he got 4 assists in one game against Young Boys. He's scored and got at least one other assist in the other CL games too.

Anyone else keeping him for another week?

Thing is Dempsey isnt playing striker anymore.. and I am going to take either Dempsey or Bale out for Adam anyway in GW 10 to make money for fabs.. Question is purely for GW 9 who is better - Dempsey or Bale? Bale appeals more to me for the reason that he has a home game

Losing patience with Bale , and even Malouda..... O Shea has to go soon too... and Yaya keeps surviving cos more pressing issues!

    Any early ideas re transfers?

Had two bad gameweeks in a row now. Starting to panic a bit. this gameweek I made some real bad moves. Transfering in Fabs before the news about his demise for example...

So now Im looking at the following GW. I need to get rid of Carroll. He is just holding up space and to offensive magpies is to much for me. Im currently leaning towards Piqionne since he would be a good differential with decent fixtures.

    Any better ideas?

      Hang fire!

Loads of players have been injured or will come into form soon, players like Rooney etc.

Clean sheets are at a premium at the moment.

Most peoples scores have been low this season so far, as the games have been unpredictable. Who would have though West Brom would take 4 points from Old Trafford and the Emirates for instance?

Last season, a good score was 70+, right now, this season a good score is 50+. Once I have come to terms with that, I felt a bit better about my two scores of 58 etc. 🙂

    Soooo - midfield transfers ahoy:

Who to get rid of? A. Johnson or Bale?

Who to get in? VDV or Dempsey (I'm looking at Fulham's decent fixtures for the next couple of weeks).

Or someone else entirely? Or both and take a 4pt hit? It's not like Johnson is DOING very much given his rotation issues...

International News (Sorry if this is off-topic):

Dominican Republic 17 v British Virgin Islands 0

This was the score on Thursday in the Digicel Caribbean Cup. Darling Batista scored a quintuple and two others scored hat-tricks. The DR are not normally noted for their strong football team. This is a bit like Man City versus Blackpool, but I hope Man. City don't have a big score tomorrow.

Ok then my h2h is down to this:

I have 37pts with Tevez (c)and Coleman and he has 40 pts with Arteta, Adam and K. Toure. Need a big one from my captain tomorrow is it possible?

I'm sick of the useless Russian. He's just gone for VDV. Gives me the cash for Fab the following week and then it's a matter of slowly moving back up the table...

Sell Sell Sell!!! VDV is suspended for CL midweek so will be fresh for Everton home next week & he is also rising tonight while Bale's value drops.

Just trying to justify the Bale>VDV transfer I just did... breaking my rule of "no early transfers"

Not great from what Ive heard but that said he wasnt 100% at all to day and first match back from injury. He will be really important for Fulham while Zamora is out and even after that.

Looking at my FFS H2H when my unbeaten run is in big danger to come to an end.

    Rival = Jones(BBN), Adam + 10 vs my Gerrard, Tevez & Samba.

Who do you people think will win?

Depends on Tevez really but almost always is better points gained vs points expecting. U need penalty for City 🙂

Cant see Blackpool getting much from city and as to liverpool/gerrard that could go anyway.. tevez should get at least 6 or more

Is cashley becoming undroppable? Iwas holding onto him just for the next week and maybe get him bak for Chelsea's run of easier fixtures but it seems like he won't stop scrorin anytime soon(and he hasn't even scored yet!). What are your thoughts?

FWIW, keep him. I regret losing him to raise funds. It's like having an 8m midfielder who also gets cleanies. He also seems to be a bonus candidate this season.

I'm getting him back in GW12 and keeping him. Toying with the idea of bringing him back for WOL. Can see Chelsea keeping a clean sheet in at least one of liv, bla.

The thing is, Bosingwa is going to give the same attacking returns as Cashley for 2.5m cheaper... he will surely be one of the all time great FPL bargains at 5.6 *IF* he stays fit
