Six Premier League matches, not a single clean sheet. Can someone at the FPL approve a 1-7-3 formation?

We went into Saturday’s matches with United facing West Brom at fortress Old Trafford, Arsenal up against a Birmingham side low on confidence and without Cameron Jerome, Newcastle hosting a goal-shy Wigan. It didn’t look too much to ask to expect at least one clean sheet from that lot.

Instead investors in Patrice Evra, Nemanja Vidic, Tim Krul, and the one-week budget offer that is Johan Djourou, were left empty handed. Arsenal’s fragility was again exposed, this time by the towering Nikola Zigic, Van der Sar uncharacteristially blundered two points against Di Matteo’s refreshingly cavalier Baggies, and Newcastle were undone by a proper Charile N’Zogbia performance.

As this is typed the league’s best defence is largely unoccupied, while Chelsea’s midfield dominate the second period at Villa Park. Perhaps Carlo Ancelotti’s side will once again be the Fantasy Manager’s saving grace?

Then we have Man City to come on Sunday as they hop on the bus to Blackpool. They can expect waves of attack at the seaside; the word “cagey” doesn’t exist in the Blackpool vocabularly and I can’t see Holloway involving himself in a game of chess with the cultured Roberto Mancini. City won’t have it easy then, but maybe they can join Chelsea as the two continue to run away with the clean sheet count.

Aside from that pair of defensive dependables, Fantasy Managers are left scratching for returns at the back. The trend towards mid-price or cheap defensive options who can offer the threat of attacking points – Seamus Coleman of Everton, Elmohamady of Sunderland, Chris Samba of Blackburn and perhaps Gary Cahill of Bolton, is surely set to continue.

Can anyone really back the Arsenal defence until Thomas Vermaelen returns from injury? Do we expect Untied to travel to Stoke or indeed, to host Spurs the Gameweek after, and keep them at bay? Not even the mid-price defences, who have provided a modicum of efficiency in previous seasons – Aston Villa, Stoke, Birmingham, Fulham – seem to provide any real potential that can be relied on.

Find me a defender out of position or at least one who can offer a real threat from set-plays. After today’s heavy load of dirty laundry, I’m beginning to give up on the hunt for clean sheets.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Keep seeing that VDV is suspended for CL.

Is that from red cards or something or because hes played for another team this year?

Is he suspended just for group stages or later?

The best thing about bonus points is that your player can be rewarded for playing well even if he's not scored/assisted.

What you are saying is that the bonus points should automatically go to the players that have scored/assisted in the game.

so why did adam johnson who played i think only 19mins last game admittedly scoring get all 3 BP?!
surely 19mins on the pitch doesn't justify any BP let alone 3!
my understanding was BP were given for a significant contribution to the game hence i suppose why johnson got BP
so surely a goal & assist from nani today is fairly significant & worth at least 1BP if not all 3
i'm all for players who play well with no goals & assists getting random BP(cahill got 2BP today for bolton?!) but in the man u game surely nani was worth some BP!
        cheers for the replies

I think I will make transfers early this week to try and increase team value (not great at the moment).
Was thinking one of the following:
    1) Bale > VDV, Dempsey > Nzog
    2) Bale > VDV, Dempsey > Brunt
    3) Bale > Nzog
    4) Bale > Brunt
    1 and 2 would cost 4 points.
    Which one looks best??

I think there's a decent chance he'll be rested. Long trip to Japan, yes it's only a friendly but Argentina are taking them seriously because their manager needs results.

He'll probably start, but it'd wouldn't be a shock if he was rested.

    A. GW9: Bale > VdV
    GW10: Dempsey > Walcott

    or

    B. GW9: Bale > N'Zog
    GW10 Malouda > Fabs

Have to decide tonight as I would lose 0.2 on Bale/VdV

just because fabs represents far better value then walcott

....but well have to wait and see if walcott can produce the form he did at the beginning of the season....if he can u can bring him in later

But don't you think bale is a must have despite TOT having tough fixtures. All my rivals have him. Fabs would be a good differential though

United tend to be my favourite team to watch (when Spurs aren't on). I think we might get taught a lesson by Inter mind.

I think Spurs would've beat Inter had VDV played. Aren't Cambiasso and Milito doubts?

Not sure. We've got a chance if Bale has a blinder. They won't be able to handle him. Draw would be ace.

VDV has played 289 minutes less than Bale and has 2 points more in the FPL - the writing is on the wall me thinks...

Unlucky not to have had a hat-trick today.....one off the bar; one saved by Schwarzer; one cleared off the line...

Get him in while he's fit and playing. I fully expect him to pick up an injury at some point.

So current team sheet for me is -

    Foster (Hahnemann)
Konchesky, Elmohamady, Alex if back (Williamson, Tamas)
    Fabs, Malouda, Bale, Nani (Toure)
    Drogba, Berbatov, Carroll

    0.2 in bank

So not sure if I have any really pressing transfers to be made, but please say if you think otherwise, but I am thinking Malouda out for VDV this week and then Bale out for Essien week after. Sound good?

he's only worth 6.7 to me anyway so if I sell him I cant bring anyone else in of decent worth, hence I would have to sell Malouda or Fabs first, then Bale in 2 weeks time

N'Zogbia has done nowt all season apart from last 2 games, not getting on his bandwagon. Etherington has had 2 good weeks and Adam 2. Brunt looks to be a more consistent 5-6 pointer a week, so may well be worth considering given WBA next 6 game weeks

3bp for Nani would've ended my cup tie in my favour. I'm 4 points ahead and we both have 4 players to play.
    Me:
    Boateng,Tevez,Elmo + Jones
    Him:
    Arteta,Coleman,Elmo + K.Toure
    I should be ok.
