Im Not Marshal Foch Im Not Marshal Foch
Share:

Two entertaining games saw seven goals scored, El Capitan for many Carlos Tevez striking a brace and Liverpool, in spite of the fillip of a completed takeover, continuing their terrible start to the season.

For many this weekends subplot was the captaincy debate – Tevez vs Nani. Overall Tevez (just) edged it with 12 points to Nani’s 10. If you didn’t captain either of them – awkward.

Bizarrely every one of the Sunday Knee Jerks’ that i’ve written have involved a Liverpool angle. For that reason, and given they still appear to be well and truely skewed on the pitch at the moment, I won’t harp on about how investment in Liverpool players at the moment seems nothing more than a complete folly. If the slipery slope were a theme park ride, Liverpool would be the spoilt kid pestering their parents to spend all day on it. Theories on how a change in owner would lead to a change in fortune on the pitch proved deluded. Liverpool were toothless and look a shadow of the team which came seventh last season – damning indeed. For every negative there is a possitive however, and from a Fantasy Football perspective this came in the form of the Toffees.

The consensus this season is that whilst the league table position would suggest Everton are struggling, performances have indicated otherwise. It was difficult to determine whether they were actually good today or whether Liverpool were just really really bad. Nevertheless there were bright sparks in the sign of Seamus Coleman who continued his fine recent form with an assist for the opening goal. Given Everton’s recent run of clean sheets, indication from manager David Moyes that Coleman has the right hand side of midfield as his own, his price (4.4 million on FPL) and the fact he’s out of position, the young Irishman is looking like a must for our Fantasy Football teams. Before we all run off to put him in our team however it is worth noting that Everton have a tricky away game at Tottenham in the offing but follow this with two home games and an away game to his former club Blackpool. Expect his price to rise in the near future.

The later kick off saw title contenders Manchester City travel to Bloomfield Road to take on Blackpool in only the Tangerines third home game since their return to the top flight. The key information to take from the Manchester City game was the reshuffle of the pack by City boss Roberto Mancini. Notable absences came in the form of  the Toure brothers who were no where to be seen either in the starting line-up nor on the bench. Whilst Yaya’s possible omission was noted in our Injuries and Ban’s section and didn’t come as a huge suprise, the absence of his brother was something of a shock. Yaya’s place was taken by the enigmatic Emmanual Adebayor who to be honest was pretty rubbish. At first the consensus was that the revertion to a 4-4-2 was exactly the right move for Manchester City. Certainly if they were to smash some of the lower level teams a more attacking mentality would need to be adopted rather than the continued three defensive minded central midfielders. How wrong that thought process was.

City continually laboured throughout the opening 70 odd minutes of the game with that formation, and it wasn’t until David Silva was brought on to replace the aforementioned Adebayor and the formation was tweaked that things turned round for the better for the Citizens.  Silva’s introduction saw an assist for Carlos Tevez’s opening (dubious) first goal and the Spaniard topped it off his influential cameo with an exquisite finish which turned out to be the winning goal. Unfortunately for Fantasy Football enthusiasts his place in the starting line up is far from guaranteed, however one mans place who is certain is Carlos Tevez and with 7 goals in 8 this season and 28 goals in his last 30 games for Man City its difficult to not try to find a way to get him into your team.

Apologies for the use of Ian Evat’s name in the title, bar the “foul”/tackle on him that led to Tevez’s second goal he really did nothing of note – i’m just a sucker for a pun.

Question is though will he get in the team? Bosingwa will now go into right back meaning 50-50 for Ivanovic and alex for cback. Personally I'm going for Bos.

Alex is a better centre back than Ivanovic, and Ivanovic is a better right back than Bosingwa, so that doesn't make any sense.

Are you sure 2 years ago when Bos was fit he was the main right back only reason why Ivanovic came in was due to the fact Bos was injured all last season that is why it does make sense.

Yeah, then Ivanovic came in and showed that he was more defensively assured and had an impressive cross.

At the back end of the season you allude to Bosingwa got exposed a lot defensively.

ivanovic is the better defender but bosingwa makes up for that with extra pace, attacking ability, crossing ability and he brings balance to the side. i think in the immediate future bosingwa will play rb v wolves and ivanovic will play rb v blackburn.

Wait on Bos for a few weeks until our fixtures ease up then you will have a clearer view on his fitness, form and likely output. He was a superb FPL asset a few years ago so he could be a steal. Better than bloody konchesky anyway!

i think alex, ivan and bosingwa will get about 2 in every 3 games. i'd prefer to gamble on alex instead of bos as cb either play 90 mins or 0 mins, full backs are much more likely to come on as sub.
last season bosingwa played 4 of the 6 games he was fit. since then he's been injured for an entire year in which time ivanovic excelled. therefore i think it's wishful thinking to think bosingwa will play every game.

I am a better dancer than Bosingwa but Ivanovic is a better chess player than me. I just don't have the patience.

But surely its all speculation at the moment as we haven't had a chance to find out what Ancelotti thinks when all of Alex, Bos and Ivan are fit. Anything could happen - Bos could be the season bargain or he could be a total flop - I'm going to give it a week or three before I decide whether to get him in and Alex out.

Looking ahead to week 10 if I have the luxury of 2 free changes I may fancy doing something like

Malouda, Gerrard, Davies > Arteta, Fabregas , Adam & about 1.5 mil

Way I see it is with Nani, Tevez, Fabregas and Drogba I have 4 captain choices and Malouda money could really help me upgrade my defence.

i think you'd want malouda back gw12, or against liverpool before then the way those scousers are shipping goals.
the subs look good though, as long as you have drogba no malouda should'nt be too tragic.
weren't you considering selling tevez at half time today? 😉

        Shhhhhhhh...... 😉

Ya thankfully he brought in a really big haul. I was getting concerned he was only gettting 5, 6, 7 etc which the cheaper players could match.

        I may just keep him.

Thanks to all for the feedback at least i can access for 2 weeks now.

Chelsea's best fixtures in the next 9 or so are the home games vs Fulham and Sunderland, that come back to back... And they come during a period of 5 matches in 2 weeks, so I'd be expecting rotation in those games..

Malouda's out of my team for a while now.

DB, well done Tevez(c). You were a bit negative at halftime.

Your moves look good. What happened to Artetta? GW10 could be a big scoring week.

Who you looking at for defence re inforcements?

I asked this earlier, but it was mid-match, and everyone was focused on that...

Providing he is fit, I want Drogba in this week. He's going to replace Berb or Tevez. I've only just brought Berb in, but he is the one that needs to make way, right?

Does anyone know why Steve Gohouri didn't play for Wigan? Pretty confused since he played well against Wolves aiding them in their first clean sheet of the season.. then he's just missing from the team?

Also anyone else thinking Ashley Cole is starting to look like a must have? I never want to get him in but i'm thinking he is probably going to outscore Malouda over the duration of the season at this rate, possibly drogs as well.

gohouri wasn't on the bench (i think) so he must have been injured. it was steven (not gary) caldwell who played so that suggests it must have been an injury.

cashley even at 8 mil looks worth it, a bit of a luxury but worth it. he looks all set to batter all the other fpl defenders in sight this year. if you check his average position yesterday he was chelsea's 3rd most advanced player!

But I can't bring myself to get him in my team, my hearts telling me get fabs.. But my head is telling me to get cashley. Torn.

Link to my team should be working if anyones interested. Planning

          Berbatov > Elmander
          Bale > Fabregas

    Can somebody answer the following:

If your captain does not play and you have form selected for the back up then if 2 players have the same form rating who is chosen?

Scenario (not my team by the way, its my best pals)

Drogba did not play, Tevez and Berbatov both have 7.5 form

    Thanks in advance!!

If i buy a player for 8.5m, they drop to 8.3m, then go up back to 8.5m, in terms of transferring him out, is he still worth 8.5m for me - or would it now be 8.4?

What are all the Malouda owners/Fab admirers doing this week? Intended to replace Malouda with Fabs last week as part of my wildcard but after hearing that the little Spaniard wouldnt play I stuck with Malouda and kept the money on one side for a cheeky 72 points. Fabs is expected to play in the CL so will presumably be back next weekend but its a tough trip to City whereas Chelsea have Wolves (though Malouda could be rested). Are people still making the change, buying a stop-gap for a week or sticking with Malouda till week 10?
