Im Not Marshal Foch Im Not Marshal Foch
Share:

Two entertaining games saw seven goals scored, El Capitan for many Carlos Tevez striking a brace and Liverpool, in spite of the fillip of a completed takeover, continuing their terrible start to the season.

For many this weekends subplot was the captaincy debate – Tevez vs Nani. Overall Tevez (just) edged it with 12 points to Nani’s 10. If you didn’t captain either of them – awkward.

Bizarrely every one of the Sunday Knee Jerks’ that i’ve written have involved a Liverpool angle. For that reason, and given they still appear to be well and truely skewed on the pitch at the moment, I won’t harp on about how investment in Liverpool players at the moment seems nothing more than a complete folly. If the slipery slope were a theme park ride, Liverpool would be the spoilt kid pestering their parents to spend all day on it. Theories on how a change in owner would lead to a change in fortune on the pitch proved deluded. Liverpool were toothless and look a shadow of the team which came seventh last season – damning indeed. For every negative there is a possitive however, and from a Fantasy Football perspective this came in the form of the Toffees.

The consensus this season is that whilst the league table position would suggest Everton are struggling, performances have indicated otherwise. It was difficult to determine whether they were actually good today or whether Liverpool were just really really bad. Nevertheless there were bright sparks in the sign of Seamus Coleman who continued his fine recent form with an assist for the opening goal. Given Everton’s recent run of clean sheets, indication from manager David Moyes that Coleman has the right hand side of midfield as his own, his price (4.4 million on FPL) and the fact he’s out of position, the young Irishman is looking like a must for our Fantasy Football teams. Before we all run off to put him in our team however it is worth noting that Everton have a tricky away game at Tottenham in the offing but follow this with two home games and an away game to his former club Blackpool. Expect his price to rise in the near future.

The later kick off saw title contenders Manchester City travel to Bloomfield Road to take on Blackpool in only the Tangerines third home game since their return to the top flight. The key information to take from the Manchester City game was the reshuffle of the pack by City boss Roberto Mancini. Notable absences came in the form of  the Toure brothers who were no where to be seen either in the starting line-up nor on the bench. Whilst Yaya’s possible omission was noted in our Injuries and Ban’s section and didn’t come as a huge suprise, the absence of his brother was something of a shock. Yaya’s place was taken by the enigmatic Emmanual Adebayor who to be honest was pretty rubbish. At first the consensus was that the revertion to a 4-4-2 was exactly the right move for Manchester City. Certainly if they were to smash some of the lower level teams a more attacking mentality would need to be adopted rather than the continued three defensive minded central midfielders. How wrong that thought process was.

City continually laboured throughout the opening 70 odd minutes of the game with that formation, and it wasn’t until David Silva was brought on to replace the aforementioned Adebayor and the formation was tweaked that things turned round for the better for the Citizens.  Silva’s introduction saw an assist for Carlos Tevez’s opening (dubious) first goal and the Spaniard topped it off his influential cameo with an exquisite finish which turned out to be the winning goal. Unfortunately for Fantasy Football enthusiasts his place in the starting line up is far from guaranteed, however one mans place who is certain is Carlos Tevez and with 7 goals in 8 this season and 28 goals in his last 30 games for Man City its difficult to not try to find a way to get him into your team.

Apologies for the use of Ian Evat’s name in the title, bar the “foul”/tackle on him that led to Tevez’s second goal he really did nothing of note – i’m just a sucker for a pun.

Possible, but with the coming fixtures, having 3 Chelsea players isn't a good idea, and funds for value players like Van Der Vaart and Adam will be short. Realistically, you'd be looking at only 5 of the 6.

Most probably, it'll boil down to one of Malouda and Cole. At the moment, I think Cole is better value for money, so I guess Malouda would be the one to make way.

I love Fabs, but am baffled why everyone is focused on getting him in. He hasn't played much this year, so there's no evidence that he will consistently perform similar to last year. I think that it makes more sense to wait until his performance level indicates that he will perform at or near last year's level (and that he is fully fit).

lol we've been half decent on the road this season (except at Stoke where we were pathetic) with a win at Blackpool and draw at Eastlands. We should have beaten Birmingham (or at the very least drawn) as well if Pedersen could score a penalty!!

I'll be surprised if we get badly beaten at Anfield although i suppose it makes sense to keep Gerrard

Hilarious how Stoke failed to have over 50% of the possession in that game, just like every PL game since they were promoted.

At home to a dismal Blackburn was the best chance they'll get.. Shit teams like Wigan actually keep the ball reasonably well, but Blackburn don't...

Highlight of watching MOTD for me is waiting for the stats for the Stoke game to come up during the interview with the tw*t with the hat. I'll love it when they finally have at least 50% of the possession, if it ever happens.

Rooney has been brilliant in the past. Why not transfer him in? You could dump Drogs. All that I am saying is that it might be prudent to wait a bit on Fabs to be sure he's performing at a high level. This season's earlier post-layoff "get him in or you're an idiot" bandwagon resulted in him getting injured and not playing again.

When he demonstrates consistent form, I'll transfer him in faster than Yousain (sp?) Bolt

I think it'll be more open than that. Man City just knock the ball around a lot in most big games, which they won't be allowed to do against Arsenal.

They'll play the same way Chelsea and United do against us - sit back and try hit us on the break. Whether they can do it as effectively without Craig Bellamy (who absolutely Pardew'd us last season at Eastlands, forget Adebayor) is another matter.

Sure thing, I was in the same boat! I just like the fact the glory-hunters justification for not being too upset with losing him has gone tits up over the past year.

If there is one worse thing than losing one of your favourite players, it's him joining your arch-rivals and becoming immense!

      Berbatov > Tevez.

I have always said it, and will always stand by it. Tevez was nothing special today, in fact he was poor for the most part. Both goals were extremely lucky/illegal.

Plenty of his goals this season have had an element of luck to them, just ask AB about it!

I think it will be a funny after next week. Malouda will get a brace (Most likely) and Fabs will do nought all (Most likely) then people will be getting in Malouda (If they haven't already got him) and will be getting rid of Fabs. I am not saying people on this site will but still 🙂

Who is getting on the Coleman train? Should I get him? Any Everton fans know when Fellani, Pienaar are back?

Who would you bring him in for? Jones of Blackburn or Faye of Stoke?

    Cheers

BUt he has only really featured for Everton this year.

Trap isn't going to be throwing in young inexperienced players into important qualifying games, the same can be said for someone like McCarthey but expect both to feature in the friendly against Norwway.

He'll play v Spurs and there'll be even more chance he gets a longer run if Osman is injured (as he came off at half-time). When Pienaar comes back he plays left side

Was leading my league before Tevez went and f*cked things up. Was told that Gyan would play so put him in. Big mistake.

    Hart/Foster
    Cashley/Coleman/Mummy/Williamson/Hangeland
    Malouda/Nani/VDV/Scholes/Yaya
    Gyan/Odemwingie/Elmander.

Gonna get Fab in for Scholes next GW, anyone know what's happened to Yaya? I think I'll get Dembele for Gyan this week.

Unfortunately not. Tbh I've got no idea what I'm going to do about Fab. I originally planned on Gerrard to Cesc for this GW just past, but Fab's injury meant Gerrard > was a dead cert. I can't drop Nani in this form and with his fixtures, so Cesc may have to wait or if I decide on dumping Malouda.

I'd definitely keep Tevez if I had him though...

Ha ha apologies my post is a dog's dinner! I stuck long story short I put Nani in this week upon hearing that Fabs wouldn't start vs Brum. I am loathe to get rid of Nani so Malouda's the only viable option for the chop if I want Fabs.

Have to say that Gerrard was incredibly unlucky to just get 2 points from today..he was pretty immense and once again carried an offensively bad side..Created about 3 or 4 good goalscoring opportunities, made things happen. i.e. I can't bloody wait to get Fabs in for him

      +1

Could have easily been awarded at least one token BP in my opinion. He was the only Liverpool player who actually seemed to care about the game. I bet he completed the most passes and created the most chances in the game.... Bloody annoying that he came out of the game with nothing, and it will probably cost me my cup match.

I didn't actually think that Liverpool were that bad today, and that Everton were defensively excellent. They look much better with Meireles deep and with Gerrard playing off Torres, hopefully Woy sticks with that for the Blackburn game.

Hopefully Bent doesn't play, that should help a lot... To be honest I won't be too fussed about going out. At least it will have been quite an interesting match, coming down to my last player needing to get a perfectly realistic score.

As for Gerrard (c), it depends on what happens with Drogba. He'll be impossible to ignore if he's going to play most of the match. Gerrard would be my second choice though.
