Im Not Marshal Foch Im Not Marshal Foch
Share:

Two entertaining games saw seven goals scored, El Capitan for many Carlos Tevez striking a brace and Liverpool, in spite of the fillip of a completed takeover, continuing their terrible start to the season.

For many this weekends subplot was the captaincy debate – Tevez vs Nani. Overall Tevez (just) edged it with 12 points to Nani’s 10. If you didn’t captain either of them – awkward.

Bizarrely every one of the Sunday Knee Jerks’ that i’ve written have involved a Liverpool angle. For that reason, and given they still appear to be well and truely skewed on the pitch at the moment, I won’t harp on about how investment in Liverpool players at the moment seems nothing more than a complete folly. If the slipery slope were a theme park ride, Liverpool would be the spoilt kid pestering their parents to spend all day on it. Theories on how a change in owner would lead to a change in fortune on the pitch proved deluded. Liverpool were toothless and look a shadow of the team which came seventh last season – damning indeed. For every negative there is a possitive however, and from a Fantasy Football perspective this came in the form of the Toffees.

The consensus this season is that whilst the league table position would suggest Everton are struggling, performances have indicated otherwise. It was difficult to determine whether they were actually good today or whether Liverpool were just really really bad. Nevertheless there were bright sparks in the sign of Seamus Coleman who continued his fine recent form with an assist for the opening goal. Given Everton’s recent run of clean sheets, indication from manager David Moyes that Coleman has the right hand side of midfield as his own, his price (4.4 million on FPL) and the fact he’s out of position, the young Irishman is looking like a must for our Fantasy Football teams. Before we all run off to put him in our team however it is worth noting that Everton have a tricky away game at Tottenham in the offing but follow this with two home games and an away game to his former club Blackpool. Expect his price to rise in the near future.

The later kick off saw title contenders Manchester City travel to Bloomfield Road to take on Blackpool in only the Tangerines third home game since their return to the top flight. The key information to take from the Manchester City game was the reshuffle of the pack by City boss Roberto Mancini. Notable absences came in the form of  the Toure brothers who were no where to be seen either in the starting line-up nor on the bench. Whilst Yaya’s possible omission was noted in our Injuries and Ban’s section and didn’t come as a huge suprise, the absence of his brother was something of a shock. Yaya’s place was taken by the enigmatic Emmanual Adebayor who to be honest was pretty rubbish. At first the consensus was that the revertion to a 4-4-2 was exactly the right move for Manchester City. Certainly if they were to smash some of the lower level teams a more attacking mentality would need to be adopted rather than the continued three defensive minded central midfielders. How wrong that thought process was.

City continually laboured throughout the opening 70 odd minutes of the game with that formation, and it wasn’t until David Silva was brought on to replace the aforementioned Adebayor and the formation was tweaked that things turned round for the better for the Citizens.  Silva’s introduction saw an assist for Carlos Tevez’s opening (dubious) first goal and the Spaniard topped it off his influential cameo with an exquisite finish which turned out to be the winning goal. Unfortunately for Fantasy Football enthusiasts his place in the starting line up is far from guaranteed, however one mans place who is certain is Carlos Tevez and with 7 goals in 8 this season and 28 goals in his last 30 games for Man City its difficult to not try to find a way to get him into your team.

Apologies for the use of Ian Evat’s name in the title, bar the “foul”/tackle on him that led to Tevez’s second goal he really did nothing of note – i’m just a sucker for a pun.

One final thing on this rooney business. Selling to City? That is the most ludicrous thing i've heard sinse Fabregas going to Spurs. Fergie would rather let him rot in the reserves till 2012 than sell to them, seriously, think about it for more than a nano second.

      +1

Even there wasn't the obvious rivalry, I'd be astonished if he moved to another English club anyway (assuming this is all true). I bet he can't wait to get away from the English media.... His life is obviously a total mess and a fresh start would be welcome.

          No this isnt the sun.

This is a new story as of one hour ago with the Journo working there saying he can confirm Rooney has said he doent want to sign a contract extension. Whether he wants to leave or its just over higher wages still has to be decided but its pretty certain what they say is true. He has told them he wont sign.

"Wayne Rooneyhas thrown Manchester United's season into a state of turmoil after informing the club he has no plans to sign another contract and intends to find new employers. Rooney's decision is based on serious differences with Sir Alex Ferguson, the Guardian understands"

Just because something is written in the guardian, that doesn't make it true. It's Oct, Rooney is acting like a spoilt child, there is a massive chasm between that and leaving in Jan.

            That's my take on it.

You can see why. Fergie nearly had a stroke when Giggs had a Diet Coke at 8pm back in 1993........Imagine the on a scale how pissed he is at Rooney pissing on street , smoking, drinking beer and doin Hookers

He's obviously spat his dummy out big time. Hopefully by jan he'll realise that a) he realises he was wrong and b) no player is ever bigger than the utd team. oh and c) he grows up a lot. If the extent of the Rooney/SAF fued is true it'll be one of whiskey heads biggest challenges getting Rooney to stop acting like a brat.

You watching the early ones from the very start?

Im in the very unigue position of having watched them years ago from the start (used to be on at 2am and nobody watched them) and then stopped just as it got very big.

Seems so long ago now. Literally 2am on a very small station with probably just me and about 5 others in the country watching it. Never would have seen it getting so big.

Fergie may rather let him rot in the reserves, the Glazers, with their £1bn debt would sell him for £50m to the highest bidder, be that City or anybody else.

Obviously if he were to leave, and that is a very big 'were', then he would move abroad. His private life won't get sorted by moving across the city- it would only get worse.

Maybe... but you lot are in a position where you can't afford a £50m asset in the reserves team.

Rooney strikes me as a tw&t - on and off the field. He'll go to whoever pays him the most. And if Citeh are paying nearly £200k for Yaya, they'll pay him what he wants.

I can't see Rooney wanting to live in Milan or Madrid. That leaves London as the only other realistic location, assuming he really couldn't be sold to City or, even more hilariously, Liverpool. Arsenal? Chelsea? It all sounds too ridiculous. Time for SAF and Rooney to kiss and make up.

Hardly. I've never said that he'll 100% be rested, only that there is a strong possibility of it happening, and I wasn't prepared to risk it with Chelsea's other fixtures, so I got rid.

If he does start, and then people come blaming me because they've taken him out, then I won't be a happy chappy.

Judgement day for my team? Possibly.

Judgement day for Jamsiep? Hell no.

Ok massive knee jerk this week. I'm starting to lag behind so out comes the WC.

Any comments would really be appreciated:

    Foster (Krul)
    A.Cole - Elmo - Coleman (Jara - Simpson)
Malouda - Nani - VdV - Gutierrez (Ferguson)
    Drogba - Tevez - Berbatov

    What do you think?

I don't think it should come to that.

          Drogba, Tevez, Fabregas, Nani.

Get/keep them. The others are changeable based on your own preference, but those 4 are really important to have.

*You will need Fabs whenever he's fit, or you will be screwed.

Fact. I worked out that if the Braga game was in the league then he'd have scored 44 points - as captain. And that was one of only 2 games where he'd played 90 mins, and he scored 22 in the other.

Going into WHM and NEW without him is tantamount to suicide.

Do you have in mind to do Malouda to Fabs after next gameweek? I'm wildcarding btw, it looks like:

        Krul - Gilks/Mignolet
        Bosingwa - Elmo - Coleman - Jara - Kolarov
        VDV - Nzog - Nani - Fabs - Adam
        Drogba - Tevez - Dembele

But now I'm with Berbatov and waiting for another possible Drogba's drop 🙂

You really buy into Arteta.... He barely even reaches the opposition half he's so deep.

Malouda cant be rested EVERY single home game.

He is gona play the easy games without a doubt aswell.

          Two Carrolls? 😛

          I dunno. I think I prefer jamsiep's team actually.

I'm going to go for something similar. Although I might hang onto Malouda. He could even be something of a differential once everybody dumps him for Fabs.

Ok lads, I need some advice. Here's my lineup:

    Foster - Robinson

    O'Shea - Phil Jones - Aaron Hughes - Konchesky - L Young

    Malouda - C Adam - Etherington - Barton - Arshavin

    Drogba - Carroll - Tevez

I have 1.2 in the bank.

I feel like I'm missing out a lot on Nani and Van Der Vaart. I'm also looking for Boateng to get some Man City defense exposure and to get Elmander to replace Carroll. I'd also like to have some exposure to Arsenal, perhaps Walcott if he returns to form in a few weeks. I'd like to know what people think is the most likely player to rise in price - VDV or Nani? Do people think its a good idea to do the Arshavin for Nani/or VDV trade this week, or should I get rid of Carroll and replace him with different striker to avoid having too much Newcastle exposure. Thoughts?

I have to admit that we need to have a forward who can play as an effective lone striker (if rooney leaves), as 4-5-1 tends to work in the big games, though we'll still demolish you guys this season...

              1. Jara this week and Arshavin the next

              Or

              2. Coleman and a midfielder less than Arshavin in value

              Or

              3. any other def/mid combos worth less than 14.1,

Anyone bringing in Bosingwa next GW? I reckon he will effectively be a cheap ass A. Cole. As he won’t go up in price, I might wait to see if Ancelotti names his starting line up again. If he's in, I'll straight swap him for O'shea.

                Midfield probably best. 🙂

Yeah, but I can't bring myself to weaken two positions to get him in. I think it would have to be at the expense of Berba and Malouda if anyone.

I want to see him play first, and don't see him raking it in against city.

He's the only one to go up this morning. Quite a few of the big names when up after the games on Sunday night.

Very true. His consistently dodgy hamstrings are also a major concern. For a player that expensive, you would expect him to be available week in week out.

Saying that - he was my darling player last year. The good old days...

anyone watch the arsenal match? any chamakh players worried bendtner came on for him for 12 mins. just a run out or is bendtner first pick when fit? I'm trying to squeeze cesc and bosingwa into my team and chamakh has served me well but wastes so many chances. if you got rid of chamakh who would you bring in for 7.5 mil up front? bendtner short term, rodallega? not much value at that price 🙁

I'm having the same problem. There doesn't appear to be any decent strikers around that sort of price. I'm bringing in Bosingwa probably as a straight swap for O'Shea, but not sure whether I should get rid of Berba for a cheap striker and get in Fabs...

As far as the Arsenal strike is concerned - I don't reckon Chamakh and Bendtner will play much together. Too similar me thinks. I would rather have Chamakh in my team though.

I'm a little peeved at myself for getting rid of Jagielka with my WC, thought he was a big doubt for the game.. Had him all year and he was starting to come good... Patience pays off huh.. Might bring him back in for O'Shea(who i swapped him for) or Richards after this GW.. Im also trying hard to tinker with my team to fit Fabs in without dropping Tevez or Malouda.. Do u think this attack is too weak?

Too early for Bosingwa, he's only played 20 minutes of football in 12 months.

OK everybody...(who has Alex that is)

Ship out Alex or keep him?

Currently sitting on him but I'm twitchy

Will he play against wolves or used in the champs league?

                Is he nailed on CB?

                How did Bosingwa look?
