Another week, another notch on the ticker passes by. That means that it’s time to consult the updated version in our sidebar and locate those potentially profitable streaks, with the fixture computer appearing to smile on some of the Premier League’s “lesser lights” right now…

The Highs…

West Brom
Roberto Di Matteo’s side have been somewhat of a revelation, peaking of late with results at the Emirates and Old Trafford; they’ve also managed to keep an unbeaten home record. All of this without the performances last year’s player of the season Graham Dorrans can provide. With three reasonable home fixtures in the next six (FUL, MCY, STK) and three away trips which should spawn a few goals (blp, whm, wig), investment in their attacking players looks a very decent option. Indeed, City at home and Everton away are their toughest looking games in the next eight Gamweeks. The unassuming Chris Brunt has been picking up points consistently at only 5.4, James Morrison is even cheaper at 4.5 and Peter Odemwingie shouts out at only 5.2 up front. The latest on him is that he’s still struggling for the Fulham clash this weekend, so keep your ear to the ground on eyes on our team news and tweets for the latest before considering that move further.

West Ham
Slowly, slowly catchy monkey. Bottom of the table they may very well be, but West Ham are an improving side and have the fixtures to come in the next few weeks to go on building. Their next five Gameweeks hand them home ties against all three of this season’s promoted sides, as well as a trip to Birmingham (so-so, sure) and one to Arsenal (not one for the defenders, certainly). Scott Parker (5.4) is always the key figure in midfield, although Mark Noble’s (5.4) spot-kicks are getting him noticed. Investment in the bargain strike-force of Victor Obinna (5.5) and Frederic Piquionne (5.1) is perhaps more likely, while Da Costa (4.8) is a growing presence at the back and that’s beginning to interest the FPL Bonus judges.

Blackpool
Unfortunate in their defeat to Man City on Sunday, “plucky little Blackpool” are close to shedding that patronising label as they continue to put in displays of no-fear flowing football. We stressed it last week and we will emphasise it again – after a bout of away games, they’ve now got the fixtures on their side and are offering Fantasy Managers with decent potential in the budget bracket. Their attacking assets remain tempting, with Charlie Adam (currently in the Fantasy Premier League dream team), DJ Campbell and Luke Varney (both 4.5) all an ever-present danger to the opposition.

Also to consider: Bolton, Newcastle, Man United and, if you really need to gamble, Liverpool.

The Lows…

Sunderland
The Black Cats seem to have been stuck in a spell of testing opposition since day one. Not a week goes by without Steve Bruce’s side being flagged up in the worst possible way in our β€œfrisking”. Away games at Newcastle, Tottenham and Chelsea continue to offer little encouragement for investment however, and while Darren Bent and Elmohammady seem to offers potential returns regardless of opposition, there’s little doubt that they’re getting little assistance from the fixture list. Form at the Stadium of Light is solid, but away from home things are pretty much disastrous. Three draws and a defeat this season fail to mask the fact that they’ve won just 2 of their last 33 away games – a staggering stat and one that will hardly fill Fanatsy Managers with confidence given their forthcoming schedule.

Blackburn
Last night’s 0-0 draw with the Black Cats signalled the start of a run of games that will test Blackburn’s progress and could have Fantasy Managers shedding any of their remaining assets. The spell starts with a trip to Anfield – a good time to pay a visit perhaps but even so, it’s hardly a potential Fantasy payday at either end of the field. This is followed by away games at Newcastle and Spurs and home encounters with Chelsea and Villa. It’s tough to spot a clean sheet in that run of five, which means that owners of Chris Samba and Phil Jones will have to keep fingers and limbs crossed for attacking returns; not a great scenario.

Wolves
Horrible, just horrible. That’s a pretty kind way of describing the four fixtures about to wheel their way into Wolves’ line of sight this week. Given the form that Mick McCarthy’s men have shown against the “weaker” opposition, Wolves could well be about to sink further into the mire. It all starts with a trip to Stamford Bridge this weekend, before both Man City and Arsenal pop down to Molineux. With an Old Trafford trip to follow that, Wolves have basically got to play this season’s likely “big four”, including arguably the two toughest fixtures of the season. McCarthy is putting a brave Yorkshire face on the situation, but the HMS Wolverhampton is a sinking ship under fire right now.

Also be wary of: Stoke

Just a little Simpson update - half time in the reserve game:

45mins - Danny Simpson has had another impressive outing and it's from his cross that the incoming Phil Airey almost makes it two on the stroke of half-time, but he just can't get the sufficient contact and it remains 1-0 at the end of the half.

Come on you little cheapie wonder, get back in the side! πŸ™‚

Berbatov will be first choice and other spot will rotate between Macheda/Chicarito/Owen (when fit), otherwise it will be the 4-5-1 that worked so well last year, with Fletch/Scholes/Giggs/Carrick/Ando in CM and Nani/Park/NEW JANUARY SIGNING on the wings

          I think....

I'd play 433 and get Sneijder in:

            VDS

            OShea Rio Vidic Evra

            Fletcher Scholes

Compare it any decent forward line and its nt great.

Cleverly and Hernandez may well be the future but that forward line has Europa league written all over it currently.

The worst thing that could happen to United would be Jose coming.

His methods of running a club from top to bottom are completly against Uniteds ideals.

And Bobby Charlton is 100% against him taking over. Ronaldo will never come back.

doesn't mean it wasn't a shock though. Tevez and Mascherano were touted as two of the most talented youngsters in the world, no one in their wildest dreams expected them to go to West Ham, regardless of Kia J or their lack of experience in the PL (Leo Messi doesn't have any experience in our league, don't tell me you wouldn't be shocked if he moved to West Ham).

Most of the transfer talk that summer was about Liverpool, Juventus and United bidding for Mascherano, and Chelsea bidding for Tevez. They'd also both come off the back of a World Cup, where they'd both impressed, so for them to move to a West Ham side who had been promoted just a season earlier was a massive shock.

There was a report in a paper about 2 years ago when Jose was Chelsea manager and ppl were saying he would take over United.

Alot of the Journos were saying even though Fergie was in favour Bobby Charlton was on record to be against him taking over. It was also on a tv show I saw.
They said Charlton really wanted the same legacy to continue at UNited....

Not just attacking based football but he wanted it to be a club for young players to express themselves and be played in the first team like it was when he joined.

He was against Jose cos he never promotes youngsters into his first 11 and always went for established internationals and bought fully formed players

In other words he doesnt have a recored of getting kids and making them into players and promoting them into the team. He only went for experienced players

          Its a very valid point.

Berbatov or Nani on pens then from now on? How will Rooney play in front of the United crowd? Will he?

So be it, you cant have a player at the club if he doesn’t want to play, he’d only poison the rest of the team especially with his profile. In his defence, I would say Rooney's decision was genuinely motivated by United not signing any decent players. Ferguson admitted today that he got the news in the off-season.

We needed 2 top class midfielders and a world class right back and Fergie for whatever reason is just sticking with what he has. Nonetheless I thought Rooney was red to the core. He said as much himself. Clearly just another disloyal footballer. Used to be one of my favourite footballers.

Good luck Wazza, you'll need it

Why does it suprise you? This is a recurring theme at Old Trafford. Get star player. Star player does brilliantly. Star player gets too cocky and starts to think more of himself than he should. Star player foolishly crosses Sir Alex. Star player finds himself dropped and then sold on.

Sir Alex won't put up with this for long. I imagine that Rooney will be on the bench now.

The sooner that they can get rid of him the better really. I can't see him playing for Utd again now. The united fans will give him stick that will make the abuse he took from England fans in the World Cup look like warm hearted encouragement by comparison.

Berbatov's rebirth as a striker means Sir Alex can cut ties with Rooney now.

As for loyalty, I maintain my stance that it really doesn't matter. I don't support a club, because most of the time players are bought and sold as a commodity, and most managers will get replaced at the drop of a hat. All you have is history, and the colour of the kit.

That said, from what has been reported in the press, he doesn't sound like the nicest person. For all my disliking of Gerrard, he does occasionally do some good.

I am an idealist, I know loyalty is a forgotten quality in todays world of football (todays world?), but Rooney always spoke of "United for life" "I'll retire here" etc etc, so I think as a United fan I bought into that, which I think as a fan you are entitled to do, Tevez I would not have called disloyal, I truly believe he was left with little option but to leave, Rooney on the other hand, he has a choice, and he is choosing money.

Toure OUT Boateng IN, Toure is out for next game or two and Boateng is 5.8 and now getting starts.

Yeah that's what I was thinking.

But Cole might pick up an injury, seeing as Ancelotti says he's been playing with an ankle problem.

Malouda is seemingly fitter, and as an outfield player, is capable of lumping em' in.

I think Wayne Rooney must be very difficult to manage, he fell out with Moyes who was trying to nurture him into the first team, got into bother in the courts about things he said about Moyes in his book. Now this with Fergie, he seems to have a terrible atitude towards his mentors. Plus that comment about the fans at the world cup was abit dickish too. Thoughts on that and where he is likely to go?

I can't believe one of my rivals has maintained pace with even my epic score in Sky Sports. And all because he captained Tevez.

I don't understand why if you get 4 points for a goal, Tevez now has 11 points.

I was doing well with assists from Arteta, Milner, Caroll, Baines and Nani, Goal from Nani, clean sheets, and I captained Nani. And all with leaving Drogba in my team for a week to save transfers.

F*ck Rooney - back to Simpson watch:

He did really well last season, should be a really good bargain at 3.9. Doubtless Jose Enrique is a better player in real life but he honestly won't offer any more than Simpson in terms of FPL so I would advocate that switch.

Not being a Brit I can only get patial info about the media/woman problems Rooney is facing, but seems to me players in the past facing these same issues skip country all together.
Most Spanish sides are low on income, and few Bundesliga teams compete in CL. If I had money to waste I'd gamble a move for Inter...or MLS(j/k)

    1. Does anyone have a clue why Luke Young decided to ride the pine and not gain me 6 points?

    2. Emergency captain strategy, if set to "Form", will captain the player with the best form, AT THE END OF THE GW, provided your capt. did not play?

I ask the second because Nani had higher form than Tevez through Saturday, then obv. the brace boosted Tevez above him. Drogs was my (c) so the band moved to Tevez.

Was this only because there was another gameday after tevez's great game, or would this have happened regardless?

Either way, I have seen a new capt. strategy I have been ignorant of for over a year...

You know what the whole shocking thing about the whole rooney saga is ? He hasn't justified his 12 million price tag on FPL at all.

Rumour has it that Fergie and Malcolm Glazer had Rooney in their FPL teams from day one. Fergie couldn't abide by the low scores and poor performances giving a few poxy assists and a goal from a penalty (the week he captained him - silver lining) and Malcolm Glazer couldn't handle the .6m price drop.

Rooney OUT in fantasy, has become a reality

No, I didn't get round to getting any cream.

But I think it went in on too high a temperature. Apples are still a bit hard, and the pastry didn't come out very good.

I was trying to cook it in the same oven as sunday lunch.

I made some mince pies with the left over pasrty though, and they were pretty good. Donna has eaten them all already. Only got to eat one.

    Right now my team is

    Jassi/Robinson
    Konchesky Dann Williamson Salcido Elohamady
Malouda Bale Nani M Petrov Routledge
    Berba Drogba Tevez

I need 1.8m to free up a Malouda to Fabregas. How do I free up that cash?

    Dann+Bale - Coleman+N'Zogbia/Adam

    or

    Salcido+Petrov - Albrigton+Coleman(or other 4.4 defender)

Any help would be great. Really struggling thi year after a decent debut last season.

One of the biggest ballaches for SAF is surely that he was going to have to deal with the problem of replacing Giggs and Scholes - now he has Rooney to replace too. Three massive players, ok Cleverley offers promise but its going to be a difficult couple of seasons for Man U. The likes of Sneijder etc won't be easy to come by, and the names like Affely etc that are being thrown around are not good enough. Yes they may be good on Football Manager, that does not always equate to real life ability (see Bakayoko, Pablo Aimar and for those old enough to remember the originals Nigel Clough*)

    * Nigel Clough was a solid 50-65 goal a season striker on the original, he wasn't quite that good in real life.

How come Rooney is getting stick for choosing money now all of a sudden? He already chose money when he left Everton to join UTD - Paul Stretford in his ear about deals with Nike etc. Any of you Utd fans who ever thought he was red through and through are way off. He was an Evertonian as a kid and he'll be an Evertonian when he retires
