Another week, another notch on the ticker passes by. That means that it’s time to consult the updated version in our sidebar and locate those potentially profitable streaks, with the fixture computer appearing to smile on some of the Premier League’s “lesser lights” right now…

The Highs…

West Brom
Roberto Di Matteo’s side have been somewhat of a revelation, peaking of late with results at the Emirates and Old Trafford; they’ve also managed to keep an unbeaten home record. All of this without the performances last year’s player of the season Graham Dorrans can provide. With three reasonable home fixtures in the next six (FUL, MCY, STK) and three away trips which should spawn a few goals (blp, whm, wig), investment in their attacking players looks a very decent option. Indeed, City at home and Everton away are their toughest looking games in the next eight Gamweeks. The unassuming Chris Brunt has been picking up points consistently at only 5.4, James Morrison is even cheaper at 4.5 and Peter Odemwingie shouts out at only 5.2 up front. The latest on him is that he’s still struggling for the Fulham clash this weekend, so keep your ear to the ground on eyes on our team news and tweets for the latest before considering that move further.

West Ham
Slowly, slowly catchy monkey. Bottom of the table they may very well be, but West Ham are an improving side and have the fixtures to come in the next few weeks to go on building. Their next five Gameweeks hand them home ties against all three of this season’s promoted sides, as well as a trip to Birmingham (so-so, sure) and one to Arsenal (not one for the defenders, certainly). Scott Parker (5.4) is always the key figure in midfield, although Mark Noble’s (5.4) spot-kicks are getting him noticed. Investment in the bargain strike-force of Victor Obinna (5.5) and Frederic Piquionne (5.1) is perhaps more likely, while Da Costa (4.8) is a growing presence at the back and that’s beginning to interest the FPL Bonus judges.

Blackpool
Unfortunate in their defeat to Man City on Sunday, “plucky little Blackpool” are close to shedding that patronising label as they continue to put in displays of no-fear flowing football. We stressed it last week and we will emphasise it again – after a bout of away games, they’ve now got the fixtures on their side and are offering Fantasy Managers with decent potential in the budget bracket. Their attacking assets remain tempting, with Charlie Adam (currently in the Fantasy Premier League dream team), DJ Campbell and Luke Varney (both 4.5) all an ever-present danger to the opposition.

Also to consider: Bolton, Newcastle, Man United and, if you really need to gamble, Liverpool.

The Lows…

Sunderland
The Black Cats seem to have been stuck in a spell of testing opposition since day one. Not a week goes by without Steve Bruce’s side being flagged up in the worst possible way in our “frisking”. Away games at Newcastle, Tottenham and Chelsea continue to offer little encouragement for investment however, and while Darren Bent and Elmohammady seem to offers potential returns regardless of opposition, there’s little doubt that they’re getting little assistance from the fixture list. Form at the Stadium of Light is solid, but away from home things are pretty much disastrous. Three draws and a defeat this season fail to mask the fact that they’ve won just 2 of their last 33 away games – a staggering stat and one that will hardly fill Fanatsy Managers with confidence given their forthcoming schedule.

Blackburn
Last night’s 0-0 draw with the Black Cats signalled the start of a run of games that will test Blackburn’s progress and could have Fantasy Managers shedding any of their remaining assets. The spell starts with a trip to Anfield – a good time to pay a visit perhaps but even so, it’s hardly a potential Fantasy payday at either end of the field. This is followed by away games at Newcastle and Spurs and home encounters with Chelsea and Villa. It’s tough to spot a clean sheet in that run of five, which means that owners of Chris Samba and Phil Jones will have to keep fingers and limbs crossed for attacking returns; not a great scenario.

Wolves
Horrible, just horrible. That’s a pretty kind way of describing the four fixtures about to wheel their way into Wolves’ line of sight this week. Given the form that Mick McCarthy’s men have shown against the “weaker” opposition, Wolves could well be about to sink further into the mire. It all starts with a trip to Stamford Bridge this weekend, before both Man City and Arsenal pop down to Molineux. With an Old Trafford trip to follow that, Wolves have basically got to play this season’s likely “big four”, including arguably the two toughest fixtures of the season. McCarthy is putting a brave Yorkshire face on the situation, but the HMS Wolverhampton is a sinking ship under fire right now.

Also be wary of: Stoke

could it be the case that just like Beckham, SAF doesn't like his players in the public eye and all of the recent negative publicity over Rooney's private life, his poor performance in the world cup etc could have resulted in SAF having word's with Rooney and Rooney's immaturity resulting in saying "I want out"?

its well known alex likes his players to behave in a certain way which is why he has them dress in suits and benched ferdinand and those lot for that party

however rooney has brought this on himself behaving like he has and then sayin he had no ankle injury

lol, not quite. Expecting your employees to behave in a professional like way is not a dictatorship. The trouble is when you represent a national football club, everybody knows what you're job is and who you work for therefore you should act professional in public and not risk anything that could jeopardise your career or the club's reputation.

it would be easier to just ask
      A) Boateng, Morrison, Varney
      or
      B) Coleman, Adam, Odemwinge

      I'd pick B.

Hmm right enough, suppose it would be.

Could play with this all day and get further from a decision. Thinking B also. Just a slight doubt over Coleman cementing a place. But Boateng could be rotatable.

Well this is the worst day everybody....

Firstly for me, as a fan of Manchester United.
Secondly for me, as a fan of football.
And Thirdly for the Premierleague itself...another player taken from us. He'll be in Spain next season.

Now begs the question...How much is he worth?
    - Do clubs leave him until the 20 months is up and try and grab him on a free?

    - Put in HUGE early offers to seal the deal for a January transfer...(GOD FORBID we lose him that early)

    - And what the hell happens to Manchester United football club now!?

Im not stupid, so Im not gonna declare hes the best in the world...cos he really isnt at the moment. hes being outscored by your Berbatovs, your Chamackhs and even your Johan Elmanders. Its not been a great 12 months for the lad.

A sad day for English football either way. BRING BACK TEVEZ!

    Saddest of faces.

Regarding the supposed change in rule with the emergency (C) form strategy, there has not been any change. Tevez was higher on form and value than Nani was at the start of the GW. I was going to (C) Drogba with emergency Nani but I couldn't because Tevez was higher on both.

If I was a united fan I wouldn't worry too much about this.

I've no great attachment to anything to do with Utd, but your manager is a genius. Point blank! As long as he's there you'll be fine. I'd back Sir Alex over any player every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Utd fans need to show they are behind Sir Alex on this one.

Wahh. We were not going to play big Chris this gameweek anyway so doesn't really matter. Take care of Rooney first.

If you care the rules are that you get a 3 game suspension for a straight red if it's or violent conduct, but if it's for denying a goal scoring opportunity like Samba did it's only 1 match.

Webster ruling. If you're a certain amount of years into your contact, you can buy out the remainder of it.

I think it changed recently though, and a certain amount of value for the player has to be paid as compensation too, so it'll be more than £5mil (google "matuzalem + shaktar" for more details on that one).

After the first three years of a footballers contract has run down they are in an unprotected period. If they so choose they can buy out the remainder of their contract and walk away.

Article 17 or something. Its called the webster clause after that webster dude left hearts a few years back I think.

Wasn't there a clause in the Webster deal that said he couldn't join a club in the same league? Might swing things in favour of Barca/Real (assuming they want him).

Good evening gents. Could anybody be kind enough to take a look at my team below and suggest any changes I could make for GW9? I would really appreciate it. One of my initial thoughts Bale > N'Zogbia.

      Foster
      Dann Elmohamady Konchesky
      Fabregas Bale Nani Nolan
      Drogba(C) Carroll Tevez

i think real issue here is how SAF reacts. If he decides he has the motivation to rebuild another side as the first XI is in need of a shake up. However I have a feeling that he might decide to call it a day.

IF this happens and SAF retires then the rot will really set in for Utd. He is bigger than the club.

Based on my team, any opinions on these transfers?

      GW9: Rooney -> Drog
      GW10: Malouda -> Fabs
      GW11: Bale -> Arteta

on a serious note does this make chichataco a realistic fantasy option?

Depends whether the baby gets lobbed out with the bathwater. An awful lot of football between now and January - surely Rooney will not be sulking in the reserves?

can't see it either. the other alternative is united moving to a 4-5-1. either way there will be much more baps on offer for nani to gobble up

Yep, I've amended my WC frontline to Berbatov / Tevez / Drogba in light of today's events, but I don't think I'd punt on Hernandez.

not in fantasy terms obviously, but i think Hernadez is pure class. A tiny bit more development, and he could be a regular

              Attila

I am playing my wildcard too and have that front line but it leaves me without Fabs in midfield ie. Arteta, VDV, Nani, Adams & Brunt

              How are your mids looking?

Sorry Kawaiii if you are still around:
Fabregas / VdV / Adam / Nani / Boa Morte

you'll be able to get the CHE game lineups an hour before kickoff to get some sure starters in...

Fab status is unknown, Nasri probably the safest option

No time to check, still working 🙂
Would you go Anelka? Might be a good Chelsea bet since Drogs is out

Sorry if I've missed the chat about Andy Carroll but is it time to get rid or will Houghton think that maybe the pitch is maybe the best place for him?

Hard to say, I think he will be less nailed on than he was, and in addition if Hughton continues the 4-4-2 tomfoolery which nearly cost us badly V Wigan then the attacking focus will have to be shared. I'd move to Varney
