Rooney hysteria is in full effect following this afternoon’s press conference from Alex Ferguson in which he confirmed that the striker wants out of Old Trafford. Ferguson revealed that he was left “dumbfounded” by the player’s intent to leave the club and went on to lay the situation bare for press and fans alike. You can read a comprehensive transcript of the conference on United’s official site.

For Fantasy Managers it’s another twist in a season which has already many of the so-called heavy hitters stall and disappoint. While Rooney has struggled to find a semblance of last season’s devastating form, the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Fernando Torres and Frank Lampard have all failed to ignite, hampered by injuries and remnants of World Cup hangovers.

The situation with Rooney may change and he may yet prove to be an asset before his time at United comes to an end. Right now however, that seems unlikely. There is clearly tension between player and manager and Rooney’s displays to this point are a world away from last season’s showings.

Ferguson has stressed that the door of negotiation remains open, but in reality it appears that United will look to offload Rooney in January before his value diminishes. Just what he can produce in their colours up to that point is up for debate, there are already unfounded reports that Ferguson will leave Rooney out of his side from this point on.

In Fantasy terms he certainly looks set to remain an outcast. In a season where Didier Drogba and Carlos Tevez have stepped up and maintained their strong return rate, Rooney will surely remain on the periphery of our thinking. In many ways Fantasy Managers will be looking for his form to remain dipped in order to allow the likes of Dimitar Berbatov and perhaps even Javier Hernandez further opportunity to flourish.

To compound matters, Ferguson also confirmed that Rooney will not take any part in United’s Champions League tie with Bursaspor on Wednesday after being stretchered off with an ankle injury in training today. That setback, coupled with today’s revelations surely puts Rooney down as a major doubt to start at the Britannia this weekend. The Berbatov/Hernandez partnership could well be in force again then. It will be interesting to see just how today’s developments affect United as a club and in turn, whether this casts a huge cloud over their title credentials and their value as a source of Fantasy talent.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Any chance of Malouda gaining 0.1 in the next two GW's and Fabs, Coleman and Elmo staying the same? When will Elmo rise if he does, same goes for Coleman. Will he/they?

Rooney has actually injured his ankle now? Bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy?

If I was Ferguson I'd be tempted to freeze him out. The form he's in at the moment it's not going to help boost his sale price if he's playing.

So lads as I said above, I need Fabs to stay the same/drop 0.1 or Malouda to gain 0.1.....

Shall I get in Coleman and Elmo now for Konchesky and O'Shea? 4 point hit, but will be taking a 4 pointer next week anyways to get in Coleman for Konchesky, I just can't afford any rises in those two and Fabs. Hmmm. But then I am relying on Fabs not rising and Malouda rising by next week. Knowing my luck Fabs will rise one night, then Malouda the next....? Help. It is the only way I can really get in Fabs!

A Rooney/United split might be the best for both parties. As long as he chooses Spain. Roons gets to escape the puritanical, camp-outside-yer-girlfriend's-house, follow your Range Rover around for a whole week and call it news, publish satellite images of your country pile - british guttersnipe press... + get a lot more time on the ball to impress + not get kicked as much + get better service.... Meanwhile, United get enough money to buy a class A creative midfielder and a couple of squad players + shift focus away from reliance on one player and let the team express themselves without having to look for Wayne every time they get the ball. Only problem is, has Roons got the balls to go abroad?

Sorry... rubbish typing. In a rush.

There is no way Malouda will be rested on Saturday.
Hes got a week off to recover if he needs it after the Wolves game anyway.

N'Zogbia is often involved in Wigans goals more so than Davies in Fulhams

Spurs play tomorrow and then on Saturday at 12.45.. I think they will struggle slightly v an improving Everton.

A lot of people on here wondering how to afford Fabregas & whether or not to hold onto Malouda.
Right the way I see it the "must haves" in FPL this season are Drogba & Fabregas and possibly Tevez. After that you've got the likes of VDV, Nani, Berbatov, A Cole, Malouda and Lampard. Then to a slightly lesser degree, Torres, Gerrard, Arteta, Bale, Chamakh, RVP, Rooney?!, Johnson etc.
So with the Rooney news it's surely increased the stock of Nani & Berbatov so im thinking Alex/O'Shea & Malouda > someone like Coleman & Fabregas to give me:

    Robinson, Carson
    Alex/OShea, Coleman, Dann, Elmo, Faye
Nani, Albrighton, Fabregas, Ferguson, van der Vaart
    Tevez, Berbatov, Drogba

Assuming Nani resumes pen duties it gives me 5 pen takers from the big 5 (sorry Liverpool)

As a utd fan i'm not that upset, of course i'd like him to stay but i think last season was as good as Rooney was going to get and it was always going to be hard to match, or even top that again. As long as we get close to 50M i will be happy, givesus some money to hopefully re-invest back into the team which is needed.

There is no way on earth they'll risk him going on a bosman, so they'll have to sell him in summer 2011 at the latest.

Who was that geezer playing LB today? Because it sure as hell wasn't Ashley Cole... His distance travelled was barely above the team average, which is obviously brought down by the centre backs. On a normal day, Cole would have been miles above the average with all the bombing he does down the left. Looked in pain when he was subbed off too, was hobbling like an OAP...

This Fergie press conference, something doesn't quite add up, I can't put my finger on it...

We sent him for a scan and while he was able to train, he was still carrying traces of his injury. Why he was saying he wasn't injured, you can only guess yourself. It's disappointing. When it came to the Sunderland game, I felt I would leave him out and give him a complete break so he could be fit for England. I thought if he went and played for England, at Wembley, we would get his form back. That was my intention, that was my idea, to galvanise him. Take a break from the games, get the training done, get his fitness back. Get rid of the traces of the ankle injury away and play for England. So why he's come out and said that, I've no idea.

Hey Torresmagic, as you really seem to want my bets for the Real-Milan game I found one.

C Ronaldo to score at odds 1.65 or above.

He's in good form and Milan have a dodgy back four and have been a shambles defensively under Allegri.

    Back it with your house.
