Rooney hysteria is in full effect following this afternoon’s press conference from Alex Ferguson in which he confirmed that the striker wants out of Old Trafford. Ferguson revealed that he was left “dumbfounded” by the player’s intent to leave the club and went on to lay the situation bare for press and fans alike. You can read a comprehensive transcript of the conference on United’s official site.

For Fantasy Managers it’s another twist in a season which has already many of the so-called heavy hitters stall and disappoint. While Rooney has struggled to find a semblance of last season’s devastating form, the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Fernando Torres and Frank Lampard have all failed to ignite, hampered by injuries and remnants of World Cup hangovers.

The situation with Rooney may change and he may yet prove to be an asset before his time at United comes to an end. Right now however, that seems unlikely. There is clearly tension between player and manager and Rooney’s displays to this point are a world away from last season’s showings.

Ferguson has stressed that the door of negotiation remains open, but in reality it appears that United will look to offload Rooney in January before his value diminishes. Just what he can produce in their colours up to that point is up for debate, there are already unfounded reports that Ferguson will leave Rooney out of his side from this point on.

In Fantasy terms he certainly looks set to remain an outcast. In a season where Didier Drogba and Carlos Tevez have stepped up and maintained their strong return rate, Rooney will surely remain on the periphery of our thinking. In many ways Fantasy Managers will be looking for his form to remain dipped in order to allow the likes of Dimitar Berbatov and perhaps even Javier Hernandez further opportunity to flourish.

To compound matters, Ferguson also confirmed that Rooney will not take any part in United’s Champions League tie with Bursaspor on Wednesday after being stretchered off with an ankle injury in training today. That setback, coupled with today’s revelations surely puts Rooney down as a major doubt to start at the Britannia this weekend. The Berbatov/Hernandez partnership could well be in force again then. It will be interesting to see just how today’s developments affect United as a club and in turn, whether this casts a huge cloud over their title credentials and their value as a source of Fantasy talent.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Can't help but thinking that this is Arsenal's strongest available team...

    Fabianski
    Sagna Koscielny Vermaelen Clichy
    Song Wilshere
    Rosicky Fabregas Nasri
    RVP

...would be the team I'd pick at full strength. You have to love a midfield with Nasri Fabregas and Rosicky in it... I'm glad that Wenger has picked Nasri and Rosicky ahead of Arshavin and Walcott tonight...

Nasri is fast becoming undroppable too. Class act.

At the start of the season, there were quite a few posts about teams that rotate home/away fixtures- very useful for deciding which pair of keepers to choose, and I'm coming back to the principle now. While checking the upcoming fixtures, I discovered to my horror that all of my planned defenders would be playing away in GW11 and all at home in GW12. This can't be ideal- I'd be fielding no homers in one week and having to bench one or two the next. So I took a look at when the home/away fixture groupings change, and put this together...each week, when Group A is at home, Group B is away (and vice versa).

    GW11-14
Group A: ARS BIR BLA BLP BOL FUL LIV MUN SUN WBA
Group B: AVL CHE EVE MCY NEW STK TOT WHM WIG WOL

    GW15-18
Group A: AVL BOL EVE FUL MUN NEW STK TOT WHM WOL
Group B: ARS BIR BLA BLP CHE LIV MCY SUN WBA WIG

    GW19-24
Group A: ARS AVL BLA BLP BOL EVE FUL MUN NEW WOL
Group B: BIR CHE LIV MCY STK SUN TOT WBA WHM WIG

    GW25-28
Group A: ARS BIR BLA BLP BOL FUL LIV MUN SUN WBA
Group B: AVL CHE EVE MCY NEW STK TOT WHM WIG WOL

    GW29-30
Group A: ARS BIR BLP BOL FUL LIV MCY NEW WHM WOL
Group B: AVL BLA CHE EVE MUN STK SUN TOT WBA WIG

GW31-34 (careful here- the reversed Wigan v Blackpool fixture from earlier in the season occurs in GW33)
Group A: ARS BIR EVE FUL MCY NEW STK WBA WHM WIG
Group B: AVL BLA BLP BOL CHE LIV MUN SUN TOT WOL

    GW35-38
Group A: ARS BIR BLA BLP CHE LIV MCY SUN WBA WIG
Group B: AVL BOL EVE FUL MUN NEW STK TOT WHM WOL

So how is this useful? Say you play 3 defenders each week (most of us do), and you have one big name undroppable defender, then that leaves you 4 slots to fill. You then choose two defenders from group A and two from group B for each of the periods, leaving you with two home defenders and one big name to field each week. This means that you only have to consider any transfers in your defence when you approach a new period (suspensions and injuries notwithstanding, of course).

Now this doesn't mean you need to make 4 transfers in defence for each period...if you want to keep hold of Elmo, for example, then he will be one of your Group A in GW11-14, one of Group B in GW15-18 and so on. Once you start removing clubs you aren't interested in (maybe the defenders are too expensive or clean sheets too unpredictable) you can go back to the ticker and see how many of the home fixtures of each club left is actually attractive during that period. Defender transfers aren't glamourous, so hopefully this can help restrict making those transfers to certain periods.

WBA and Newcastle really do rotate very well.

I'm hoping to have Odemwingie, Jara, Barton and Simpson in the next few weeks and rotate them from week to week.

It looks perfect but we'll have to see!

newcastle and birmingham also rotate well. Be aware that WBA are on a high, but that's unlikely to continue all season...well if it does then we'll have an unusual new champion at the year end.
I've gone for Barton and Barry (hello I'm on the pitch at St Andrews can I have my 3 bonus now) Ferguson...they rotate well.
Enrique and Jara for me in defence as rotatees.

I like your thinking. I hope it is rewarded.

            Thanks Jonty,

I have Enrique and Jara at the mo but will be taking Enrique out for Simpson once he has played 90 mins, even if its for a hit. The .6 will be very useful.

WBA should score goals at home and perhaps keep the odd cleanie.

Odem would be useful for this weekend if hes back!

Positive news on Drogba (Chelsea official site)

As well as the three points there was more good news, with no effects felt from the artificial pitch at the Luzhniki Stadium, and positive reports emerging from England that Didier Drogba will be fit for the weekend's game with Wolves.

'I think that we had good news from Cobham today and he will be able to play the next game against Wolves,' he said of the Ivorian.

Actually just reading the article there again, Ancelotti says on Cole/Essien.....'We trained yesterday without a problem and Essien, Ashley played 90 minutes, they didn't have a problem,' he explained.

Sounds like Essien and Cole came through ok, albeit Cole did not quiet play the 90 minutes as Carlo seems to imply?

      They'll play at the weekend.

Malouda will play because they just don't have a good replacement at the moment. I reckon Chelsea againt Wolves will be:
