Im Not Marshal Foch Im Not Marshal Foch

Chatter in the Fantasy Football Scout halls this week has been constant and along the lines of;

“I’m thinking of bringing Fabregas in, I need to take a hit, who should I get rid of?”

Given the fact that second placed Arsenal are at home to struggling West Ham, this comes as no surprise. The incredibly influential Spaniard would be an obvious pick for captain given his ability to unlock defences with his passing and goal scoring prowess.

However, todays game against Manchester City would have given a number of managers food for thought about whether tinkering with their side and taking hits to get Fabregas in is really essential after the performance of fellow Arsenal Midfielder Samir Nasri.

The Frenchman has scored 7 goals in 11 games this season in all competitions with 3 assists. 4 of those 7 goals have come in the league with his solitary league assist in todays game, setting up Nicholas Bendter for Arsenals third goal. In the FPL game, he has also picked up 9 bonus points this season which perhaps understates his contribution.

Whilst there is no doubting that long term Fabregas offers a greater potential return, at £7.4m Nasri is 4.4 million pounds cheaper than Cesc, and for those without a limitless pot of money or not wanting to take out other potential big hitters such as Malouda or Nani he could provide an alternative source of points.

One factor in the thought process may well be the penalty miss by Fabregas. Whilst there is little to suggest that this miss will see the Spaniard removed from penalty taking duty, given the fact that a number of Nasri’s goals this season have come from the spot in Fabregas’s absence, a number of people will keep a keen eye on the Arsenal penalty taker should the recent flurry of Arsenal penalty’s continue.

Away from the Arsenal game, Manchester United notched up a 2-1 win against Stoke at the Britannia. Both of United’s goals were scored by Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez. These were goals 4 and 5 for the young Mexican in a United shirt and will only have added to a blossoming reputation. Two goals, one of which which was marvellously improvised back header (i’ve never said that before), will have proved to many that  he all the attributes required to be a big star at Manchester United.

In Wayne Rooney’s absence, this was Hernandez’s second consecutive start in the Premier League and with Rooney’s injury looking to keep him out for a further 2 to 3 weeks there is a good chance that the little pea will continue to get starts. Certainly if he continues in a similar form, as a short term solution at £6.9m, he appears to be something of a bargain. Naturally it’s nearly impossible to determine whether or not he will start but what does seem likely is that if he is given starts he’s a huge goalscoring threat.

        If I get rid:

        VDV Fabs Malouda Nani (Ferg)
        Drogba Elmander Carrol

        if I keep:

        Fabregas VDV Nani Adam (Ferg)
        Drog Teves Carrol

So Malouda and Elmader vs. Tevez and Adam. For me, that's just the former, but barely.

I guess that's true. Tough to ditch Malouda, though. Adam and Elmander will probably score comparably, but I really don't see Tevez scoring more than Malouda, even with a favorable next 2 weeks.

Tevez is central to an obscenely large number of goals/assits that City score. The same couldn't really be said of Malouda.

              Really?

I think Tevez will outscore Malouda.

Bigger goal threat, and City rely on him for so much. He's also on set pieces and pens.

Malouda doesn't do well in tough fixtures. Look at his record this season.

I predict a Sir Paulos Nasri article this week complete with heat charts.

Carroll's areal assualts are somewhat remniscient of Alan Shearer.

Tevez, Coleman, and Alex are fine and will play next weekend. No worries. Belotelli is a bigger threat to Tevez.

Lampard is coming back soon and Kalou is a threat to at least come on at the 60 min mark if he doesn't start. Add Champion's League matches, and Malouda is subject to rotation.

I don't RMT very much at all but I feel like gameweek 10 is a pretty big one for everyone in terms of consolidating their team with

    Fab issues
    Malouda issues
Alex and Bosingwa issues among others

I'm currently 30 points ahead at the top of my league and am thinking about a potential 8 point hit to secure a dreamteam midfield that includes fabregas

    Current Team: (2.1 in bank)
    Jaask Foster
    Alex Dann Elmo Coleman Jara
    VDV Malouda Nani Arteta Barton
    Drog Carroll Berbatov

    Should I swap:
    A. Alex Barton Berbatov for Bosingwa Fabs Varney
    B. Arteta Berbatov for Fabs / Hernandez,Dembele,Obinna,Odemwingi,Varney,Elmander (anyone under 7.7)
    C. Alex Arteta Berbatov for ACole Fabs Odem,Dembele,Varney etc

Sorry bout the convoluted options but I'm loathe to wildcard coz my team only needs 2 or three tweaks at most and Option A. would give me a ludicrous midfield of

Fabregas Arteta VDV Malouda Nani !!!!

and still have a tidy wingback defence with rotation of my third striker every week (Varney / Carroll)

Should I live the dream or hang onto Alex (or get ACole finally coz it hurts to watch him rise every week)

I don't even want to get rid of Barton or Arteta but one of them will go for Fabs
Losing Malouda is not in my plans

It's not a bad position to be in I know
This season is my best start by a long shot

    Hi Guys,

    My team is

    Foster, Krul
    Simpson, Alcaraz, Elmohamady, Knight, Jones
    Nani, Malouda, VDV, Adam, Nasri
    Tevez, Drogba, Carroll
    2.6 mill in bank

What would be your next move.
Jones out for a lower defender?
    Fabs in for Malouda?
    Leave it?

    Cheers

yes, get fabs in. for me all the chelsea coverage someone needs is either drogs or malouda, not both as it leaves you too exposed.

Do you think drop carroll for a 4.0 and upgrade Nasri to Fabs????

4.2 is the cheaper striker I can find. give it another month & Boselli should be 4.0. 😉

                Nani, Malouda, Nasri, Adam, VDV

would you guys agree that downgrading o'shea for a 4.5 defender is a better move than cole to bosingwa in order to free up cash for the team i want?

bought cole at 7.5 from start of season, so i'd be selling for 7.8 now.

ya, that's what i'm thinking, but by doing that the drawback is i get rid of a united defender for a crap one and won't have any money left to make other moves really when they arise. if i go cole to bosingwa, after my other planned move i'll still have 1m left.

Planned to transfer Nasri out for Fabs this GW... now must consider transfering Malouda instead but, since I've had him from the start it's a big price hit (won't be able to get him back). Midfield is VDV,Nani, Adam, Malouda, Nasri at the moment.

    a) If I go Nasri>Fabs bags of money but, not enough for Cole

    b) If I go Nasri>Fabs 0.0 in the bank

    Leaning toward original plan b???

um, they both say nasri to fabs. i'd keep malouda if you had since gw 1 and then do nasri to fabs. fabs is priced high for a reason and will overshadow nasri for the season if fit. i love it, one bad game and pen miss and everyone considering nasri over fabs, who when isn't injured is one of the highest scorers in the game period. he got a yellow and missed a pen and still got 2 bps, that should tell us all something.

Right... sorry about that. a) should say Malouda>Fabs.

I'm with you, Fabs you can captain most any time no problem... the same with Nasri

    My team currently is

    Foster jussi
    A.Cole Elmo Coleman salcido Enrique
    Malouda vdv nani Adam nzogbia
    Drogba berba carroll

    With 3.1 in the bank.

    Tossing up between 2 options:
A - berba and nzogbia to odemwingie and fabs
    Or
B - malouda to fabs and salcido/Enrique upgrade to Bosingwa

    Thorts??

Lost top spot in all my leagues now so some work to be done. Team for this week:

    Foster (Krul)
    Bosingwa, Coleman, Elmohamady (Jara), (O'Shea)
    Adam, Fabregas, Nano, VDV, Nasri
    Drogba, Tevez, (Varney)

    0.8 in the bank

    Any obvious weakness/areas for development?
