Im Not Marshal Foch Im Not Marshal Foch

Chatter in the Fantasy Football Scout halls this week has been constant and along the lines of;

“I’m thinking of bringing Fabregas in, I need to take a hit, who should I get rid of?”

Given the fact that second placed Arsenal are at home to struggling West Ham, this comes as no surprise. The incredibly influential Spaniard would be an obvious pick for captain given his ability to unlock defences with his passing and goal scoring prowess.

However, todays game against Manchester City would have given a number of managers food for thought about whether tinkering with their side and taking hits to get Fabregas in is really essential after the performance of fellow Arsenal Midfielder Samir Nasri.

The Frenchman has scored 7 goals in 11 games this season in all competitions with 3 assists. 4 of those 7 goals have come in the league with his solitary league assist in todays game, setting up Nicholas Bendter for Arsenals third goal. In the FPL game, he has also picked up 9 bonus points this season which perhaps understates his contribution.

Whilst there is no doubting that long term Fabregas offers a greater potential return, at £7.4m Nasri is 4.4 million pounds cheaper than Cesc, and for those without a limitless pot of money or not wanting to take out other potential big hitters such as Malouda or Nani he could provide an alternative source of points.

One factor in the thought process may well be the penalty miss by Fabregas. Whilst there is little to suggest that this miss will see the Spaniard removed from penalty taking duty, given the fact that a number of Nasri’s goals this season have come from the spot in Fabregas’s absence, a number of people will keep a keen eye on the Arsenal penalty taker should the recent flurry of Arsenal penalty’s continue.

Away from the Arsenal game, Manchester United notched up a 2-1 win against Stoke at the Britannia. Both of United’s goals were scored by Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez. These were goals 4 and 5 for the young Mexican in a United shirt and will only have added to a blossoming reputation. Two goals, one of which which was marvellously improvised back header (i’ve never said that before), will have proved to many that  he all the attributes required to be a big star at Manchester United.

In Wayne Rooney’s absence, this was Hernandez’s second consecutive start in the Premier League and with Rooney’s injury looking to keep him out for a further 2 to 3 weeks there is a good chance that the little pea will continue to get starts. Certainly if he continues in a similar form, as a short term solution at £6.9m, he appears to be something of a bargain. Naturally it’s nearly impossible to determine whether or not he will start but what does seem likely is that if he is given starts he’s a huge goalscoring threat.

3rd red arrow in a row but none of them big falls thankfully. The guy in 2nd place in my main league is catching me each week, despite not touching his team since week 1. I'm busting my balls, on here regularly, planning transfers, taking no hits (well, one) and he's still catching me.

lost on end of last page:
    Potential WC team:
    Gilks-Foster
    Givet-Mummy-Simpson-Tamas-Coleman
    Nani-Nasri-Nzogbia-Fabregas-Arteta
    Varney-Tevez-Drogba

Worth it? Current team linked. Alternatively, could bring in VDV for Arteta. Defense is a bit light but waiting for Kolarov to play and to see if Boswinga can make that RB slot his own.
(I know its early in the week but if i decide to play it I want to increase team value as much as possible)

Maybe not but I think he's better value over this week and the next two weeks, where you may not want to play a Chelsea defender anyway. A lot can be done with the extra 2.5m elsewhere. I'll swap cashley in for him when chelsea's fixtures improve AND his value may have risen

i think hes gna play half games with ivanovic

in games like blackburn away where they need to break down a defence bosingwa will be a far better choice
whereas playing united or arsenal a more solid defence wud do better (hence ivanovic)

but neway until alex is fit again him and ivano will play

I brought in Bosingwa and was happy with the clean sheet. At 5.6M even if he only plays 3 out of every 4, he'll bring in the points.

His 1-2 with Drogba was sublime yesterday in the first half and he was free in the box on 2 or 3 other occasions.

At 5.6M it's a great way to get into the side and I dropped Alex when he was 6.4M, after having him since week 1 - pretty happy since he's been out 2 straight weeks.

No way would i even consider getting rid of Malouda. He is a goalscoring machine and will be one of the top scorers in the prem and sets up a few also. He is the top mid scorer on fpl and will probably be the top points scorer or will score as many ppg as Fabs. Playing in such an attacking role for the best team in the league. Why get rid ?!

Clearly it hit the defender first. I own Carroll but will be the first to admit it wasn't an assist, I wouldn't have complained had I got the assist but....

If during this pass, an opposing player significantly alters the speed or direction of the ball, then no assist is given

So, after today I'm not convinced having 11.8 million tied up in Fabs is worth it, when I could possibly get just as good or if not better results from Nasri.

    Current team is

    Foster/Hahnemann
    Elmo, Alex, Konchesky, Coleman, Tamas
    Fabs, Bale, Malouda, Nani, Brunt
    Drogba, Berbatov, Carroll

    Thinking -

    Fabregas - Nasri
    Hahnemann - Hart
    Alex - Cashley
    Konchesky - Alcaraz

    sound sensible or sheer madness?

      3 good move
4 madness. Crap fixtures for Wigan

    Albrighton/Tevez out, Fabs/Hernandez in.

I'm pretending he doesn't play for United.

Am I mad to be considering Fabianski? Decent fixtures, cheap access to the Arsenal defence and is surely first choice now?

    Check this out.

The current overall leader has NEVER had Drogba in his team this season!

Hope that dispells some of the myths of everybody being essential. There are just plenty of options everywhere this season, which for me makes it one of the best seasons yet.

Essential is indeed a myth, I sold Drogba for Tevez four weeks ago and (to date at least) it's been one of the few shining lights in a damp squib of a season so far.

It's not to say Tevez will win out in the long run, but I don't believe anyone is essential. Fabregas is the closest I would come to that ethos for me, and I don't think he's anywhere near it.

Good coverage and good timing can win out.
