Im Not Marshal Foch Im Not Marshal Foch

Chatter in the Fantasy Football Scout halls this week has been constant and along the lines of;

“I’m thinking of bringing Fabregas in, I need to take a hit, who should I get rid of?”

Given the fact that second placed Arsenal are at home to struggling West Ham, this comes as no surprise. The incredibly influential Spaniard would be an obvious pick for captain given his ability to unlock defences with his passing and goal scoring prowess.

However, todays game against Manchester City would have given a number of managers food for thought about whether tinkering with their side and taking hits to get Fabregas in is really essential after the performance of fellow Arsenal Midfielder Samir Nasri.

The Frenchman has scored 7 goals in 11 games this season in all competitions with 3 assists. 4 of those 7 goals have come in the league with his solitary league assist in todays game, setting up Nicholas Bendter for Arsenals third goal. In the FPL game, he has also picked up 9 bonus points this season which perhaps understates his contribution.

Whilst there is no doubting that long term Fabregas offers a greater potential return, at £7.4m Nasri is 4.4 million pounds cheaper than Cesc, and for those without a limitless pot of money or not wanting to take out other potential big hitters such as Malouda or Nani he could provide an alternative source of points.

One factor in the thought process may well be the penalty miss by Fabregas. Whilst there is little to suggest that this miss will see the Spaniard removed from penalty taking duty, given the fact that a number of Nasri’s goals this season have come from the spot in Fabregas’s absence, a number of people will keep a keen eye on the Arsenal penalty taker should the recent flurry of Arsenal penalty’s continue.

Away from the Arsenal game, Manchester United notched up a 2-1 win against Stoke at the Britannia. Both of United’s goals were scored by Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez. These were goals 4 and 5 for the young Mexican in a United shirt and will only have added to a blossoming reputation. Two goals, one of which which was marvellously improvised back header (i’ve never said that before), will have proved to many that  he all the attributes required to be a big star at Manchester United.

In Wayne Rooney’s absence, this was Hernandez’s second consecutive start in the Premier League and with Rooney’s injury looking to keep him out for a further 2 to 3 weeks there is a good chance that the little pea will continue to get starts. Certainly if he continues in a similar form, as a short term solution at £6.9m, he appears to be something of a bargain. Naturally it’s nearly impossible to determine whether or not he will start but what does seem likely is that if he is given starts he’s a huge goalscoring threat.

Anyone know why Carrol didnt get the assist for Nolan's goal? Evra got an assist today even tho his cross took a defection!

    Folks,

Need to do transfers tonight which I know is very early but finances dictate

    Gerard and Etherington out

Fabregas and one of the following Adam, Brunt or N'Zogbia

Who do I go for ???????????

The rest of my midfield is Malouda, Nani and Ferguson

What's the latest news on Adam? Unless there is news out there that Adam's injury isn't too bad, then I wouldn't bring him in so early - it's incredibly risky.

That said, if he is fit, then he's the best option at that price for me.

Back from a heavy duty stag do to see my plans in ruins. Stupid tinkering! Malouda out, Foster out, Carroll out! To be fair I still think I've picked a side with decent potential, but jeezas I felt like a right bellend when I looked at my teamsheet. At least it provided good slagging material from some of the swines I was with.
Anyway to those I advised that it was worth considering getting rid of Carroll - I humbly apologise, I was clearly talking a load of arse. I had a logical reason to think he wouldn't do as well but he fairly shat on those notions.

The Wildcard, yeah didn't work well this week, but its not a bad side. Basically it amounts to
Malouda & Carroll versus Tevez & Adam, most weeks that would come in favour of Tevez & Adam, just a bad week.

When I see I survived to see only a 2 on the big favourite this week I thought I might have at least a semi-favourable time for a change - nahhhhhh! My third one point captain in nine gameweeks. I shouldn't be allowed the thing, I had five choices and I pick the one who gets injured in a 10 man team.

He came good(ish) and even my loss of faith in the team behind him meant I couldn't dare captain him in the end. Bah.

It doesn't hurt. Only because I would have benched him anyway in my other plan (Elmohammady and Brunt in for Givet and Dorrans, Carroll to start). But it's bloody annoying all the same.

It's a litany of decisions indicative of why I'm doing so average though, each time I feel like I may be finally on precipice of a good week... then it crumbles.

This week was going to take a 4 point hit and do Toure for Elmo and Nasri for Fab but not sure now. Might stick with Nasri.

Annoying thing is in gameweek 3 I played the wildcard and though Jones was having a better time than Elmo so shipped him out. What a knob! Now I'm paying over the odds for someone I had from the start.

        Malouda, Arteta, Fab, Bale, VDV

        Spurs double-up. It's genius.

And a bit of a f*ck-up on the transfer front...

Did the same thing 2 weeks ago. Worked perfectly for that game but didn't see it as a weekly thing! Get rid of Bale.

I think I'm going to stick to my original plan....

        Nasri > Fabregas leaving a midfield/attack of:

        Nani Fabregas Malouda VDV Adam
        Carroll Berbatov Drogba

I know a lot of people seem to be opting for Malouda > Fabs, but think Malouda will score well over the next few weeks and feel Nasri will lose points potential with Fabregas back (think today was a one off vs 10 mean for 85 minutes and Fabs missing penalty).

        Anyone agree?

          i, hoping your right,
i have a similar team and i'm making the same change.
fabs must be a better long term option.

I was going Nasri to Fab this week but it would have been a 4 pointer. Might hold off until Fabs is about to rise and do it then. Hopefully Nasri will do the business next week get some more rises and I can get Fabs after. Way I see it is if youve had Nasri since last week the rises this week (Sat and tomorrow) should keep you level with Fabs expected rise this week so can hold out.

Wasn't all that really. Lucky weird header with the back of the head. Could have gone soooooo wrong. Ronaldo's header in Europe was 1million times better.

          CIVIL WAR

          Nice V Nasty
          Toffs V Proles

Well from my personal foxhole there has been the sound of weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth. However, personal wildcard tragedies aside, the battle of FFscout raged on. A sterling performance was put in by the heroic partnership of Sporting Lisburn and Apocalyptic Lawnmowers for the Members, standing shoulder to shoulder against the rabble of the Non-Members who produced a despicable score of 63 by their monstrous Terry Krul on Bridge.
Last week the Empire struck back, marginally increasing their lead - this weeks accumulative results are as follows:

          ...............drum roll.............

          MEMBERS 847 V 814 NON MEMBERS

Hurrah! Grendel of the Fens has been defeated yet again by the noble Members. This produces overall cumulative results of

          MEMBERS 8696 V 8637

This increases the overall score to 59 points. Thanks all for playing - Long Live The Members!
