Im Not Marshal Foch Im Not Marshal Foch

Chatter in the Fantasy Football Scout halls this week has been constant and along the lines of;

“I’m thinking of bringing Fabregas in, I need to take a hit, who should I get rid of?”

Given the fact that second placed Arsenal are at home to struggling West Ham, this comes as no surprise. The incredibly influential Spaniard would be an obvious pick for captain given his ability to unlock defences with his passing and goal scoring prowess.

However, todays game against Manchester City would have given a number of managers food for thought about whether tinkering with their side and taking hits to get Fabregas in is really essential after the performance of fellow Arsenal Midfielder Samir Nasri.

The Frenchman has scored 7 goals in 11 games this season in all competitions with 3 assists. 4 of those 7 goals have come in the league with his solitary league assist in todays game, setting up Nicholas Bendter for Arsenals third goal. In the FPL game, he has also picked up 9 bonus points this season which perhaps understates his contribution.

Whilst there is no doubting that long term Fabregas offers a greater potential return, at £7.4m Nasri is 4.4 million pounds cheaper than Cesc, and for those without a limitless pot of money or not wanting to take out other potential big hitters such as Malouda or Nani he could provide an alternative source of points.

One factor in the thought process may well be the penalty miss by Fabregas. Whilst there is little to suggest that this miss will see the Spaniard removed from penalty taking duty, given the fact that a number of Nasri’s goals this season have come from the spot in Fabregas’s absence, a number of people will keep a keen eye on the Arsenal penalty taker should the recent flurry of Arsenal penalty’s continue.

Away from the Arsenal game, Manchester United notched up a 2-1 win against Stoke at the Britannia. Both of United’s goals were scored by Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez. These were goals 4 and 5 for the young Mexican in a United shirt and will only have added to a blossoming reputation. Two goals, one of which which was marvellously improvised back header (i’ve never said that before), will have proved to many that  he all the attributes required to be a big star at Manchester United.

In Wayne Rooney’s absence, this was Hernandez’s second consecutive start in the Premier League and with Rooney’s injury looking to keep him out for a further 2 to 3 weeks there is a good chance that the little pea will continue to get starts. Certainly if he continues in a similar form, as a short term solution at £6.9m, he appears to be something of a bargain. Naturally it’s nearly impossible to determine whether or not he will start but what does seem likely is that if he is given starts he’s a huge goalscoring threat.

Sorry if I'm going over old ground but why the clamour for Fabregas as compared to better value Arsenal midfielders like Nasri/Arshavin?

I understand that Arsenal midfield makes sense, but is there really such a great difference - Nasri especially seems in superb point scoring form right now and Fabregas returning from injury was confidently out-pointed today.

As part of my tinkering I'm also looking to drop Berbatov for either Odamwengie OR Carroll (free up cash for either Fabregas or future week tweaking - already have Drogs and Elmander up front).

Am favouring the West Brom man at the moment as he looks to be back from injury and I can't believe Newcastle will keep it up and Carroll will stay out of suspension/prison.

    Any thoughts?

Arshavin might be cheaper but he won't be better value. Nasri is an option though but long term it's all about Cesc Fabulous.

It's the long term (if fit) confidence in Cesc, especially with captain in the mix.

If one can't afford Cesc right now then Nasri is on form where getting him isn't half bad (some berk sold him, what a fool), but I'd still be infinitely more confident in having an captaining Cesc in my team. I've had enough captain's failures already to know that.

Arshavin is a no go zone.

Don't really know because I didn't watch the game. (Was too busy at the New Lawn watching Forest Green qualify for the 1st round proper of the FA Cup!).

Although my little brother reliably informs me that Bosingwa was our best player, and everything I've read seems to indicate that he had an excellent game. Still - judging by the highlights on MOTD - he was caught out a couple of times defensively, especially from crosses, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if he was on the bench against Blackeye Rovers.

Hmm, I was in Shearer's Bar swilling em back and watching the Toon game so I caught a bit of the Chelsea highlights and it looked like he was within a ladygarden follicle of scoring. Might stick to original sell to upgrade elsewhere thought - Boa Morte was a moment of madness!

You're never going to let this one lie are you?!

All I ever said (from a personal perspective) is that there was a chance that he could be rested, and that I didn't want to risk that possibility, because at the time it was the only way I could get Nani into my team.

                Chew on this:

I'd say its unnecessary at best, malouda and berbs are solid picks, I'd get rid of Bale for Nasri if possible.

Your right but Malouda has been reliable almost all year, where as Fabs is still yet to be seen, long term anyways. Berbs for Carroll is o.k, I dont know who your other 2 forwards are but Berbs isn't a bad player to have on your team, Carroll isnt either but alittle lest reliable than Berbs. Nasri however is a cheap option to get in on Arsenal vs West Ham next week and he has been on fire.

Think i might bring in both Nasri and Fabregas and not Arteta, other forwards are Drogba and Tevez, but yeah I am reluctant to take out Berbatov and even more so Malouda espescially as I've gained a lot of value on them.

Sorry if I'm repeating questions: been out of town all weekend. Any news on injuries to Coleman, Adam, and Tevez? I'm wildcarding this week.

Anyone else think that Nasri only really thrived because of being the unmarked forward midfielder as a result of Man City being down a man?

Pires starts training with Arsenal and Nasri turns into a goal machine, coincidence? I think not.
