Gunners too much for 10 man City, Liverpool beat Big Sam but stay in the drop zone and Little Pea shows his class. Here’s the rest of this gameweek’s Scout Notes…

Man United managed to win away from home in the league for the first time this season thanks to Javier Hernandez’s double at the Brittania. With the injured Wayne Rooney still a few weeks away from a return, Little Pea showed the club have alternative quality options upfront, with a superbly improvised header for United’s first, as he picked up the maximum 3 Bonus Points. Although this wasn’t reflected in the Bonus Point allocation, Nemanja Vidic put in a superb shift at the back to comfortably nullify the threat of Kenwyne Jones, as well as providing the assist for United’s first.

Stoke slumped to their second defeat on the trot and despite a brilliant equaliser from Tuncay giving Tony Pulis’ side brief hope, United took the lead soon after against a largely uninspiring performance from the home side. With their next two games (eve, sun) things aren’t looking too bright for a side who have yet to pick up a clean sheet on their travels all season.

Liverpool managed a narrow 2-1 win against Sam Allardyce’s Blackburn but still remain in the relegation zone. Sotirios Kyrgiakos grabbed a goal and all 3 Bonus Points and although a Jamie Carragher own goal meant they have now went five games without recording a clean sheet, Fernando Torres second goal of the season proved to be the winner at Anfield.

Sam Allardyce’s side had Paul Robinson to thank for keeping Liverpool at bay; the Blackburn keeper recorded 6 saves in a performance which saw him awarded 2 Bonus Points, making it 5 in the last 2 gameweeks. Robinson is now the highest-scoring budget keeper in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, sitting behind Petr Cech and Joe Hart. Carragher’s own goal means no Blackburn player has scored in any of their three October league games.

The fourth-minute dismissal of Dedryk Boyata at Eastlands meant it was always going to be an uphill struggle for Man City against Arsenal. Despite a spirited performance after going a goal behind midway through the first half, fatigue set in come the final quarter of the game, and City were picked off two more times as the Gunners pass and move proved too much for them. Carlos Tevez limped off in the 53rd minute, though the extent of any injury is yet unclear.

Arsenal even had the luxury of a missed Cesc Fabregas penalty in their 3-0 win over City. Samir Nasri once again showed the form that suggests he may be a cheap alternative to Fabregas, with a goal, assist and all 3 Bonus Points in the match at Eastlands. Alex Song bagged the second and Nicklas Bendtner, returning from injury, scored the third after being on the pitch for just four minutes in an overall team performance that delighted Arsene Wenger.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Foster/Jussi
    Mummy / O’Shea / Konchesky/ Alex/ Jones
    Malouda / VDV / Nasri / Brunt/ Davies
    Drogba / Tevez / Carroll

O.2 in the bank. Do I somehow bring in Nani or should I simply keep my midfield and change Davies for Adam if my squad goes up 0.2?

To me, it comes down to this: I'll have Bale or Arteta this Saturday(unfortunately it'll cost 4 points to do Bale>Arteta). Bale will either score more or less than Arteta.

If he scores more and I have him, then I've made no progress, as he's in 45% of teams. If he scores more and I don't have him, then that's the risk. However, Arteta is in less than 5% of teams and that's a risk worth taking, as there's a very good chance Arteta will have a better week (Everton home to Stoke, Spurs away to Man U). Going forward, Everton's fixtures are brighter than Spurs' (plus no CL distractions).

Basically, by keeping Bale and him doing well, I get nothing out of it. I stand to gain more by having a successful Arteta.

Attila the Bum, owner of the Wildcard of Woe:

    1. is Williamson nailed on to start for Newcastle? if so, for how long? i want to take him out for Simpson but there's no point if williamson's going to play as well, and there are more important transfers.

    2. what's your opinion on Carroll? In the early season people on this site said that he was a Kevin Davies kind of charactr who brings in BPs, but he also scores more goals. Now he's doing a bit sh*t for my team and i'm thinking of getting rid if he doesnt produce in the next few weeks

    3. How long is Ben arfa out for? At 4.7mil and dropping he could be great value

    4. Who the heck is Tiote? u seem to rate him highly and he's bringing in BPs, but from what ive heard he seems to play very defensively

Didn't notice him much in world cup, the only Ivory Coast match that i watched was the Brazil one. Carroll's no longer bringing in any BPs, and his goalscoring record is not great any more, 1 goal on saturday but none for ages before that.

Carroll sits 5th overall in points in the Forwards category , costs 5.5 and that's with him not scoring that well until this past GW. Means I can have Drogs, Tevez and a good midfield.

He can continue to do what he's doing as far as I'm concerned.

      1) Hard to say, Williamson should be ok for another couple of weeks as Campbell is injured and S.Taylor still has to return to fitness. When all three are fit though I would honestly struggle to pick which one will be the regular, so I would stay away from all three.
      2) I have been advocating getting rid of him as Hughton appears to have switched to a 4-4-2 which takes the focus off Carroll. Plus there has been the off-field mallarky which may impact him. However he had a very good game against the Hammers so proved me totally wrong. In his price bracket there are few better options.
      3) Ben Arfa, not sure I really, really hope to see him in a Newcastle shirt again but he might not. It's a very serious injury but the operation went well. I wouldn't be expecting to see him before February though.
      4) Tiote is a fantastic signing for the Toon. He plays as a slightly more defensive Essien, sort of Makelele role. Wins the ball creates room, plays sensible pass sort of player. Brilliant. I just hope we can keep him once the vultures begin circling, Man U for example could really use someone with his industry as Hargreaves is so injury prone. In terms of FPL though the best I reckon he would do is the odd 5/6 pointer, he has a vicious shot but rarely uses it, too defensive for FPL

    2) Albrighton + Torres = Nani + Chemakh/ Hernandez
    3) Malouda + Torres = Fabregas + Tevez/Berbatov/Hernandez

    Hey guys,

Check out my squad and see options below, opinions badly needed...

    Do I..
    a) get rid of Bale and bring in Fab
    b) get rid of Nani or Malouda and bring in Fab
    c) get rid of Albrighton and bring in Nasri

Its a risk but i slightly favour c at the moment as it can be reversed hopefully without losing any value if Nasri's form falls. C would also give me a lot of 'Top 6' coverage.

Hopefully can have a turn of fortune soon as not been greatest season so far!

Just Horrible looking at A Cole point tally now.

I sold him after a few weeks because - wait for it

    - Mainly because he wasnt getting any Bonus points when Chelsea were hammering teams and he never had a history of it in his previous seasons so I felt he was over priced at 7.5mil

He has become even more attacking now which makes it far worse. At times he was in the CF position on Saturday,

    Horrible C*nT ! 🙁

Please people, i need some reassurance here to not lose the faith with my season.

I currently lie around the 700,000 mark - a lot of bad luck with (C) choices and some diffentials that havent paid off, a nightmare with a initial squad selection (followed by some poor wildcard choices) and one or two rushes of blood to the head with 4 pt hits. I'm genuinely quite disheartened!

Foster (Stockdale [-> when i get the chance])

    Konchesky Bosingwa Coleman (Foley Simpson)

    Fabregas Malouda Nani VDV (Barton)

    Drogba Berbatov Odemwingie

IMO my team will do the goods (it's a long season i know), but 88 points behind my mini-league leader, do i need to be taking more risks?

No, you need to be taking LESS risks. Play it more safe.

Think about who you want to score well, and never care about what your mini league leader does. Take less point hits.

Remember that he's built that 88 point lead in 9 weeks, you have 27 weeks left to catch it up!

Thanks Gargamel! You're right - i've never been so low in the overall rankings (possibly the 1st season i played) so i've pushed the panic button a few too many times!

I'm well off the pace but just needed reassuring that all is not lost. Will be sticking to my guns and playing the safe approach from here on out. Let's hope caution pays off!

            Oh it will mate.

If you're far behind with 5 gameweeks left then go into panic mode, but stick with the guns you believe in until then.

I think it's a sound team apart form Perch, Foley and Odemwingie.

Cut down on the point hits and don't don't take too big risks with the captain and you'll easily climb the rankings with that team.

Perch is gone for Simpson this week + Shawx -> Bosingwa

Foley is my token Wolves Player as i'm a fan - he's cheap and might chip in with the odd assist... but he's also gone once Zubar's fit

and i'm keeping Odemwingie as ive had other priorties! Hopefully he'll come back into the side and start scoring some goals.

The main thing is i'm now happy with the backbone of my team. Thanks for the reassurance and i'm going to adopt a strict no point hit policy until the end of the season (bar injuries and snow hit weekends!)

I reckon fabregas might well get a run out. I would wait on bringing in any arsenal players until after this game personally

I presume during the winter months when games get postponed we will start to see double game weeks as fixtures are switched to different dates.

also with the fa cup games being played on saturday's as teams progress they will have to re-schedule weekend premiership games and then there will be double game weeks for those teams.

The only scheduled fixture alterations this season will be around the Carling Cup Final, FA Cup Semi-Final and FA Cup Final.

Completely off topic but how useless is the jobcentre! I've just graduated from Uni, signed on becuase i was told it affects your pension in the future if you dont, hoping for some help, pah! I have a degree in product design, and the patronizing women is printing me off jobs for factory stock checker, sales assistant etc.. Not that there's anything wrong with them jobs but i've only just graduated and not willing to give up on my degree. She gave me the whole "theres no reason why you shouldnt be working, you wont get your money if you dont apply for the jobs i refereed you to" line, it felt so good to say stick your money, i dont want it, thats not why i signed up! The look on her face was priceless.

And during those Gameweeks Chelsea have SUN bir new, or perhaps just have Fabs for two GW's and then have Malouda which will leave me with the next four fixtures WHM NEW FUL SUN 🙂 Points galore.

Bosingwa will struggle to play more than 3 games ina row IMO. Chelsea's fixtures are bad up to gw 12 and 13 when they have 2 home games but they are separated by 3 days and Bosingwa will not play them both. Terry and Cashley are the only nailed on starters in Chelsea defence, Alex will play in CB when Bosingwa is rested, Ivanovic in RB. When Bos plays, it is yet to be seen who plays in CB out of Ivan and Alex
