Last weekend saw the return of Jose Bosingwa to Premier League action after a year-long absence with a knee injury and the Chelsea full-back thoroughly impressed against Mick McCarthy‘s Wolves.

Although Chelsea have both Branislav Ivanovic and Paulo Ferreira as options for the right-back slot, Bosingwa is perhaps the best fit for Carlo Ancelotti’s system and the Chelsea boss admitted as much after the 2-0 win, saying:

Bosingwa was one the best players on the pitch. He put a lot of pressure on in the second half by pushing up without the ball and he had opportunities to score. For 70 minutes he played very well and he is an important player for us in the future because we can use his speed and resistance to play better in attacking play.

A look at this Average Position map from the Wolves game indicates there was not much positional difference between Ashley Cole (no.3) and Bosingwa (no.17) on Saturday and suggests that, within this system, Bosingwa can be expected to mirror the threat of Cole on the opposite flank every time he is selected.

As the Passing Heatmaps below also show, 40% of all Bosingwa’s passes were made in his opponent’s final third of the pitch, whereas only 32% of all Cole’s were. Given that Bosingwa made 50 passes and Cole made 38, it’s fair to say there was more of a threat coming down Chelsea’s right flank for a change.

As a result, Bosingwa made 2 Key Passes that led to Goal Attempts on Saturday, and considering that Cole has made 10 Key Passes in 9 games, it’s food for thought for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers, bearing in mind the right-back comes in at £5.6m compared to Cole’s £8.2m. However, for those Fantasy managers giving him the once over, a word of caution: there’s no doubt that Ancelotti will take time in easing him back into the fold, and it’s perhaps worth waiting to see how things unfold over the next couple of gameweeks before diving in. Once his fitness is full, though, it’s feasible that Bosingwa’s impact could see him become a first-team regular if Ancelotti’s comments are anything to go by.

Bosingwa also managed 3 shots at goal and was perhaps unlucky not to find the net, denied by Marcus Hahnemann on a couple of occasions. This was an amount beaten only by Didier Drogba on the day and considering Ashley Cole has had 6 shots at goal all season, it’s further indication of his attacking prowess.

Somewhat bizarrely, despite lagging behind Bosingwa in such critical areas, Cole was still awarded all 3 FPL Bonus Points but if the right-back continues to perform as he did at the weekend, there’s no reason why he won’t soon be offering the kind of returns that saw him bag 156 FPL points a couple of seasons ago.

There is no way that Malouda will go up before Fabs.

In fact, Malouda will probably not go up this week, because people will be transferring him out.

Double on Nasri for sure. Arteta is an injury risk.

    any advice appreciated:

So far all my GW's have been average and i wanna get rid of some deadwood (BAE, Y Toure) and get Fabs in.

    Bale > Adam
    Y Toure > Fabs
    BAE > Coleman

Is EVERYONE looking to get Fabregas into their side? Am I daft to look at it from the point of view that if everyone throws him in then how can we gain points on each other? Or should I just be looking to get involved in a share of the points?

The people on this website represent a tiny, tiny proportion of the overall game.

Also, it doesn't matter a whole lot of everyone has him - if you think he's going to score big in the coming weeks then get him in - if he does and you don't have him, you've lost ground.

Just get him in if you think he's going to score well, don't look at it too relatively.

Guys why was carroll not awarded an assist?

Nolan dragged the Magpies back into the game at Upton Park when he cancelled out Carlton Cole's opener from Carroll's knockdown, and he later paid tribute to his family for allowing him to take the younger man under his wing amid his current difficulties.

For those considering not getting players because "everyone has them". This is my first time playing but surely sometimes you have to have players that will score points that maybe everyone else does have simply to keep up. A team of differentials are usually differentials for a reason - they aren't scoring.

Also don't take what people are doing on here as the total FPL population. 2.2 million are signed up to this and I'd be quite surprised if anyone near that number use this site.

Fabregas for example (albeit not the end of the week) is only owned by 8.2% of the player base currently. Yet if you go by this site, every single player wants to own him by the start of this gameweek.

I guess what I'm trying to say is don't always be put off by lots of others owning a player. Build your team around those you think will score points, at the end of the day you'll have a different team to most people in some aspects anyway, just hope that those other players score well that week 🙂

Planned to transfer Nasri out for Fabs this GW... now must consider transfering Malouda instead but, since I've had him since the start it's a big price hit. Midfield is VDV,Nani, Adam, Malouda, Nasri at the moment.

    a) Malouda>Fabs = bags of money but, not enough for Cole

    b) Nasri>Fabs = 0.0 in the bank but better long term balance

Still leaning toward b) the original plan but, still undecided???

You've made the classic error when linking your team. It just takes it to my team... Read through the FAQ section, and it explains how to do it properly.

Quite clearly I wanted to see if the "pro's" around here would notice. See if they were on their game

i think what people seem to forgot is that when fabregas doesn't play, nasri has his position and profits big time - however when fabregas is back this won't be the case - man city aside on sat as an exception.

It's possible times are changing but thats a gamble im not willing to take.

I agree. Walcott will surely start playing again too, even if it's just 20-30 min from the bench each time Nasri will suffer.

      Nasri.

He has two great fixtures, is on form, will rise in value, and I think he'll score great. This is purely short term of course. Van Der Vaart is your man longer term.

I wouldn't touch Silva at all. His record in La Liga fantasy football wise isn't great. Then you look at his team, and he's a rotation risk deprived of set pieces and bonus points. Avoid. Arteta is a much better choice at that price.

Good point. Quite possibly... It just depends on who Houllier wants to play deep alongside NRC.

If it's Sidwell, then no change.

If it's Ireland, then Albrighton will be nailed on, with Young continuing down the middle.

      Time will tell.....

vdv is going up tonight, but do you think will get another rise this week?

i'm trying to be patient and avoid hits, maybe next week i could do malouda out vdv in. Then week after that enrigue/alcaraz out, bosingwa in.
